This totally worked btw.  Started 2-0-2-6 at home this season.  I am now 11-0-2-7.  9-1 at home in my last 10 games.  Deferiet Garden is once again a feared arena for all opponents to play in.  A combination of the uniform change and the $1 whiskey shots (limit of 8 per period) keeps the fans lubed up and loud.

I changed most of the tactics when I took over the team, and here are the number of games it took for tactic familiary bars to rise.

From starting red to minimum orange: 11 games
From minimun orange to minimum blue: 7 more games, total of 18 games
From minumum blue to minimum green: 6 more games, total of 24 games
From minimum green to full green: 5 more games, total 29 games.

There might or might not be degrees to full green. When I originally changed tactics, it took several matches for the previous full green bars to visibly drop. If I'd switch now after just receiving full green bar, I have a hunch it might drop right away. I'm not gonna test it though.

All for a roster limit. 50 I reckon would be too high though, we don't necessarily have to fill an affiliate like an NHL team. 40 would be ideal, 20 active roster players and then 20 that can be assigned. It would make roster spots an asset and something that has to be considered when deciding to sign a player.

Are your nervous players playing poorly?  Worse than your Determined/Stable players?

I have a few Nervous/Anxious players, but they perform just as well, if not better, than my other players.  I've always thought the Big Games trait was more of an overall team factor (i.e. Winner Instinct).  Or maybe if you have enough Heroic/Determined/Stable players it will offset the Nervous players... and if you have too many Nervous players, like you said, then players actually start playing that way?  I'm just grasping at this point.

I made a mistake. Best info is in the help files.

no clauses or two way clause. moving down will gain 1way and promotion clauses with no salary changes. going up will remove any clauses and give "lower league contract" with no salary change.

1 way going up will remove the 1way clause, no salary change and give "lower league contract".
A *promotion contract* clause will increase the player’s salary if his team is promoted to a higher league. The new salary is calculated so that the player will keep the same percentage salary cap impact. E.g. if the player’s salary was 10% of the cap limit in the previous league his new salary will be 10% of the new league’s salary cap. However, if the new salary exceeds the base salary of the new league level the raise will instead become a 25% raise." Promotion clause will disappear on promotion/ traded up a league.

SHL teams can claim GHL players on 2-way contracts.  1-way contracts are still blocked.

I am getting the same error when trying to initiate with a team from their team page - however I can initiate a trade from the transfer tab by selecting new trade, then selecting the team.  Does that work for you guys?

Motivated by the number of players of Asian descent to have recently been drafted in the early rounds of the NHL Draft, such as Nick Suzuki, Kailer Yamomoto, Cliff Pu, Jason Robertson, Tyler Inamoto, and Jonathan Ang, I compiled a list of players of Asian descent in GW Biscuit (total of 33 players, including some in the junior leagues) and created a team from the top-rated players at each position.

Although definitely lacking in depth, the team actually has some bright spots. Specifically, goaltending would unquestionably be a strength, as Justin Yu is one of the best goalies in Biscuit and still getting better. Jermey Sin was actually the Russian League scoring leader last season, and would spearhead this team's attack along with centres Max Lang and Preston Yao. Ruari Vu and Graham Lao form a competent top defensive pairing for the team, although the quality of defensemen drop down drastically afterwards.

Many of the players for this team (Sarah Do, Anthony Bui, Ryan Lai, etc.) are fast approaching retirement and have declined significantly in the past season or two. As a result, part of the reason behind me posting this now was to acknowledge them for their solid careers. On the other hand of the spectrum, there are a number of young players such as 15-year-old Louis-Phillip Low of the Ingolf Hawks (CAJHL) who I'd expect to continue to rise up the ranks and help fill in the gaps left by these retiring players.

Note that in cases where there was some ambiguity as to the name, such as the surname Lang, I assumed that these players are of Asian descent. In addition, just going off of last names of possibly Asian descent misses players who have Anglicized last names such as Jason Robertson, of Filipino descent, who was drafted by the Dallas Stars 39th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. Finally, I have a hunch that I missed a number of players of Japanese descent simply because their surnames may not be as easy to spot when scrolling through hundreds of names so feel free to let me know if I've missed anyone!

Paul T got a reaction from Walter A. Donaldson in Expanded jersey options
I think it would be cool to have some additional jersey options to give teams a larger sense of identity - and to expand from 2 to 3 color combinations.  I noticed at the jersey select screen there is a drop down for Jersey Type, but there is currently only 1 option, which leads me to believe there was initial intent for multiple options.

I was looking at all the NHL jersey styles and came up with the three styles below.

    1. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim+ shoulders (BOS, EDM, STL)

    2. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim + middle stripe (MTL, MIN, FLA)

    3. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim (CHI, DAL, VAN)

You could mimic other teams jerseys such as Detroit/Toronto by selecting option 3 and just choosing 2 colors.  The current design could still remain for nostalgic purposes and purists.

    Thoughts?

Just wanted to bump this suggestion as I think it would be a great addition to the game for many reasons.

In looking at stats from Biscuit, 23 BHL games have gone to a shootout this year.  Checked GHL as well and the number of SO games was 21.  We are 22 games in, so that is 1 per week per league.  For the higher leagues, the point differential is always very tight, so shootout wins/losses can have a huge impact in the final standings, which could be the difference between making/missing the playoffs, top 2/bottom 2 promotion/relegation, etc.

Suggestion #1:  the ability to edit your shootout lineup.
Suggestion #2:  tracking shootout goals, attempts & percentages (much like face-offs) on the player stats screen to see success rates... for both players and goalies would be amazing.

So last season I tried an experiment and I barely avoided being relegated.  I tried new tactics.  40 games is about right from low red to full bar.  Also, using a ruler on my monitor and measuring progress up and down, I confirm that dropping happens faster than increasing, but not always.  There was a period when I switched when my old tactic barely dropped and the new one barely increased.  After about 5-8 games, they started trending in the anticipated direction.  I want to switch my tactic, but after a couple of seasons of horrible results with playing with it, I'm too scared to try again unless I am already relegated and rebuilding.

As for the Team Focus, I'm not sure what to do with those.  I've heard some managers say NEVER mess with them, but I like the theory that you can mix them up based on your opponent.  I'm focusing on trying to understand this more this season since I've decided to not try to change my offense or defense tactics again after last season.

But I think all of this is slightly more complicated.  There isn't a magic formula, since your opponent changes every night, but having your offense/defense tactics, your team focus, and line settings be consistent and make the most of your players' skills is difficult.  For example, having Stay At Home Defensive Line and Checking Lines play Very Offensive just doesn't make sense.  So there has to be some sort of alignment.  What that is will probably change from team to team and the effectiveness against each team will also vary based on everything we all just said.

So, I guess it depends on your manager strategy.  Do you start with a offense/defense plan and build a team around that or vice versa?  No right answer, but I think until you decide on one or the other, you'll be doing a lot of soul searching, haha.

Bumping this old thread.  Was it ever known how much of an impact tactic familiarity had on game play... or any other impacts?

From what I've seen, if someone wants to change tactics, it will take almost an entire season to get to 90-100%.  I'm wondering if that would pretty much destroy someone's entire season - or if the impact is relatively minor (assuming most of the players actually fit the new tactic).

Something else to think about (not sure if anyone has any input on this?).  Random example: if you find that your defenders are more suited for SPREAD defense, but your current tactic is TRAP.  Is it better to:
    A.) Play Spread at 20-30%
    B.) Play Trap at 90-100%

I like this idea.  I wouldn't assume too many teams have won games when a player gets injured early in a game.  I know I haven't.  This is a good solution to that problem - unless there is another way for injuries to not have too much of an impact on the current game?

I am going to add a little to this idea - there are times when one of my teams get an injury that we actually find a way to get a win but more often than not we lose. I think part of that is that it opens up wide the chances of dysfunction occurring on that line thus leading to more scoring opportunities for the opponent. In addiction to adding a SO lineup, could there just be a depth chart option? I like the idea of limiting the active roster to 23 (giving the GM a bench C,F, and D slot). Then for each line you could set who would be the secondary fill person in the case of an injury. While the bench players may not gain a ton of experience on the ice they would still get an added boost for just being present with the active roster (that's all theoretical).

Our day today following beating the (former) #1 Team yesterday:

We played on the road today against the worst team in the league who had 0 wins to their name. To be safe I left my best goalie in at net to ensure no weird upset would occur. In the 2nd my team Captain (24YO, 6'1", 194 lbs) gets into a fight...and loses to a 40 year old 5'10", 170 Lb. guy! Despite the humiliation my Captain puts us up by 1 ending the 2nd period.

Then it happens...an injury to my veteran 3rd liner. No big deal right? Immediately following that we tank and have 3 straight goals dumped on us and can't seem to score another despite having almost every statistical advantage at the end of the match...bah! To make matters worse, one of my old goalies that we departed with gets the first win for the opponent for the season. What a flaming bag of poo!

Yes, this is correct. What you see is the number of shifts for the player. So a TOI of 20:00 is the same as 40 shifts.
