  1. I thought I had improved my team significantly (in relation to other teams) since last season, but I'm actually at the same position as before. Of course overall doesn't tell the whole story, but interesting nonetheless. Many teams have improved ~1 point of overall since last season.

  3. Thank you for the info! Now my next concern is what to do with those players who are on their last season and have 1w in their current contract. How likely is that they won't demand 1w-clause when negotiating?

It's not fully predictable if they'll want a clause or not. Likely if they wanted it for their previous contract they'll ask for it again, unless the player has grown significantly older or regressed skill-wise. You can basically get any player to sign a 2w contract, but you might have to overpay them significantly, which may be hard to pull off when relegating.

  4. I've got some 1W players playing the last season of their contract and my team is currently the biggest candidate to get relegated. If my team gets relegated does such players leave my team automatically even if I negotiate a new contract with them or does it depend if the new contract has 1W clause or not?

The clauses on the new contract will be applied, so players with a 1w-clause in their new contract will get released.

  5. These are indeed quite puzzling.

From what I've observed(merely observations, not based on actual raw fact),

Teamwork: Solely based on traits, doesn't fluctuate without roster moves.

Confidence: A mix of individual players' confidences as well as team record. The only time I've seen better than OK confidence was last season in SHL where I had multiple long winning streaks. Even then it didn't rise above "good", so there must be some other factors involved as well. Perhaps some traits factor in?

Winner instinct: Largely based on "big games" - trait, goalies seem to factor in more than your average skater. There are also some unknown factors involved that make it fluctuate a little. Possibly season record or recent games affect it somehow. I've witnessed a drop from heroic to strong, and from strong to ok while absolutely nothing else changed. No roster, lineup, confidence or training change. Just time passing, I.E. games being played/training happening(with no modifications to intensity).

I also have a wild, possibly completely misplaced hunch, that your whole roster factors into these, including players in the minors. That could explain some of the weird fluctuations as well as the confidence bar seemingly lagging behind the main roster's overall confidence. But I've zero tangible facts on this.

As to whether these have any actual effect on team performance, I haven't figured out. If there's an effect, it would seem to be quite small. Any big movements in the team spirits are (almost) always associated with trades, thus making it hard to judge whether the differences in team performance are a result from the different players or the team spirits changing.

  6. I used to think tough or agitator would boost physical play, but I'm becoming more and more certain they just draw more penalties with little correlation to actual physical play. Gentle and respectful players seem to generate the same amount of hits as somewhat equal tough/agitator counterparts.

  7. "Make trade lock period prevent affiliate assignment & remove trade lock from entry level contracts."

    Why?

To prevent handing FA's big two-way contracts and immediately hiding them into affiliates, making it possible to keep offering such contracts in great numbers.

One could still assign these player into affiliates after the 20-day period, but it would prevent, or at least hinder, "hoarding" players at the beginning of a season.

The second part would allow you to still assign your own prospects to affiliates as soon as they're signed. (And entry level contracts don't really need a trade lock anyways.)

This would be a partial, temporary solution using existing mechanics (thus would hopefully be easier to implement).

A better solution would of course be something like a waiver system, as discussed here http://forums.gmgames.org/topic/7945-waiver-system/

  8. out of curiousity did you do it by hand? or copy and paste into a spreadsheet? assuming if the latter it would need some cleaning up as thus far my attempts at sorting things through such mediums hasnt been so successful.

I sum up and enter the player overalls into an excel sheet by hand, the sheet handles the overall calculation. Then just copy+paste those results into a word document. Takes ~45 minutes to do a league.

  12. It's running now. Interestingly the game world clock shows "Youth draft" coming up in ~30 minutes. What's that about?

E: The youth draft part vanished, everything seems to be in order.

  13. Nervous players pulling of wonders during the PO, is at least strange. They should have even more influence than in the regular season.

We simply don't know what nervous etc. actually do and how those traits affect gameplay/match engine. Maybe they already have a bigger impact during playoffs, but all the mistakes and whatnot might not reflect directly to the scoreboard. Even if we did know exactly how everything was supposed to work, the sample size we have, especially in Biscuit, would be way too small to conclusively determine whether everything is working the way it should.

  14. I think the short playoff series make the RNG look much worse than it actually is. Basically any team on the same league level can pull off two wins against any other team. If we had best of 5 or 7 - series, we would see better teams come out on top more often.

  15.  -- I have seen teams with amazing OVR players but traits that are really bad. Yet, these teams play amazing and it seems like traits really don't matter. --

Amazing players ARE indeed amazing players, whatever their traits might be. And they should, most often, perform like amazing players. After all, we're talking about traits, not skills or attributes.

Basically, if you have two guys with the exact same skill ratings, one with the worst traits, and the other with the best possible, they can still both perform according to their skill ratings, i.e. at an equal level.

Yes, over a long period of time, say 10+ seasons, the one with the better traits should end up with slightly better stats. (Assuming there's a totally equal environment for both players, which is never the case).

In my opinion, the one with the worse traits should still be able to regularly match, and occasionally exceed the "better" player's performance. And this is pretty much how it feels to be right now.

  16. Great post!

Quickly scraped together a Finnish team, had to go down to SHL to fill some spots. If I missed any players, just point that out and I'll edit the team.

  17. The current free space in the ongoing and next season assumes the roster and assignments remain the same. Buyout is however calculated from the full contract value, and as stated, leaves you actually paying more than when keeping the player assigned.

    In this case the numbers:

    Full contract cap charge $29,000

    Assigned cap charge $2,900

    Buyout cap charge $14,500

So you released an assigned player, who was counting $2,900 against the cap. After releasing, the buyout counts as $14,500 against the cap. Thus, after releasing, you've $11,600 less to spend next season, compared to when he was assigned.

E: Yes, the process is a bit confusing. If you want to see the real cap situation for buyout, you've to bring the player up first.

  18. @canucks I see what you're getting at. And I agree that the information we get on players could be more vague - and maybe scouting staff etc. could then make that information more accurate. But for all the factual information we have on a player, (which is pretty much everything right now, and perhaps that shouldn't be the case), there should be a search function, as acquiring that data is possible manually and only requires time.

  19. Maybe somehow link the available filters to how good your scouts are (when team personnel are added)? Not sure how that might work tho.

I don't think filters should be limited in availability or usability in any way. It's a "quality of life" - feature that should reduce manual labor and just make things faster. Any relevant detail that you can find manually should have a filter available for it.

  20. Looking at play-by-play reports, it seems that injuries are very much tied to getting hit and being in the receiving end of infractions like high-sticking. Since goalies don't get hit etc. they seemingly only get injured by some (apparently very low) random injury chance, and like said, maybe tiredness plays a part there.

  21. As pointed out in this topic, a roster limit would either be too limiting, or high enough to be irrelevant. For example, I've 16 assigned players, 14 of which I signed from my prospect pool. That would be a roster of 34 just to have my own prospects in my own affiliates. Not to mention I like to keep 1-2 capable reserve players for each position in case of injuries. That's easily a roster of 40 without any hoarding.

However, as those prospects age, not all of them will make the main lineup. And it shouldn't be possible for me to lock them up into affiliates forever. Waivers would be the answer to that.

All in all, I'd support an age-based waiver system, along with a high roster limit, say around 50, just for the sake of having one.
