  1. I wouldn't say shocking... I think so many cup finals in a row were more shocking. GHL is getting more even every day and usually up to 14 teams can easily go for the cup (maybe 16, but the last two teams are usually for some reason point-wise far away) - yes, they have to make to the PO first, but look at Marauders... two times champion and now 12th without any significant changes to their team. And it's not that surprising - they were only 6 points form the PO and even in the 2 cup seasons, they were in the regular season group that does fight for the PO until the end of the season. With 6 extra points they would be one the cup favorites again.

Exactly - that is the realistic comparison.  It is not reasonable to expect a team to go to the championship every season.  Yet when they don't people are always shocked or make mention of it, at the very least.

  2. The Protons are the New England Patriots of this game (for those that follow the NFL, American football).  Always at the top and expected to play in the championship.  Anything less is shocking.

  3. I think the lack of response here is that no one really knows for sure (except for Anders).  When in doubt, test it out!

That being said, I ran various tests on training a few seasons ago.  I tracked development for 20 different players by measuring the progress bars every 10 days for an entire season.  Every 10 days, I would change something whether it be the Intensity (Hard, Normal, Easy), the Player Role (Sniper, Two Way, etc.), and the Focus (Off, Def, Gen).  I tried to test every combination of Intensity/Role/Focus.  My results were inconclusive in that it didn't really notice much difference in progress when I changed the variables.  Other than the fact that the bars went up faster when the Intensity was Harder (this one is obvious).  But the Player Roles and Focus didn't seem to have a huge impact to draw a solid conclusion.  Perhaps the 10 day periods were too short to notice anything drastic and that results are only noticeable longer term.  Also perhaps there is a time delay on the change, like when you change your tactics, you won't start to see a noticeable difference until 5-10 days after making the chance.  So that could have confused my results.

The only things I know for sure are:

    1) The Harder the Intensity, the more a player will progress (obviously).

    2) Players typically progress faster when they are younger (typically).

    3) Team tactics seem to play a role (i.e. Puck Possession will develop Pass/Puck faster).

    4) Offensive attributes progress earlier in career, defensive later (Anders mentioned this somewhere).

As for training Skating specifically.  I would assume set the training to Hard & General.  And it will also help if your Off Tactic is Dump&Chase or Transition - and your Def Tactic is Forecheck or Spread (but I wouldn't change a tactic for training purposes).

  4. Well done Paul!  Good luck in the next round.

I wonder how much those two day 66 signings had to do with the 1-0 and 2-1 win you scrapped by us with in those 2 games  ;)

Thanks.  I'm sure they played a part.  Also tough break for you today with your goalie getting injured 1/2 way through the first period.  Think the game might have turned a bit differently if he did not.  Close games as always.  Now excuse me while I go get smoked by a GHL team :-)

  5. I scoped out the competition - lot of good managers down there in the BHL playoff race but I have confidence in my boys...hopefully not too much.

Floccari seems to go into Beastmode when it matters.

  6. In other SHL news, the Leopards and Musketeers finished with the same point total and will face off in the first round of the playoffs as the #4 and #5 seeds.  We split the season series 2-2.  The crazy fact is that both teams promoted from BHL last season where they finished with the same exact point total there, too.  What are the chances?

Good luck, Exxeo.  Thought for sure you were going to dig your way out of having to play to stay.  Your team was on quite the tear the last 20 or so games of the season.

  7. In my opinion, there isn't a single player in history that was in the top 10% of the league in shooting, skating, passing, defense, spirit, physical, and all of the other various attributes.

    Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe.

But I get your point and I agree.  I'm pretty sure this was brought up in the past and that Anders toned down the player progression in one of the latest updates for this reason.

  8. Wondering if it's possible to move the REPLY button when messaging between managers to the top of the page.  Currently it sits at the bottom of the page.  There are a handful of other managers who I message with sometimes multiple times per day.  Once you are 6-7 messages deep, you find yourself scrolling down the page through all the messages before you can reply... and if you are using your phone, sometimes you can't even get to the reply button.  I feel like moving the button to the top of the page would make it just a bit more user friendly.  Just a thought.

  9. One other note... I assume you are talking about Moss.

The 1W/PC makes sense because having a 75 OVR at that salary in IHL is a great deal.  75's are generally top line players in IHL.  And once you promote to BHL(barring an epic collapse in your last few games), the 1W/PC will be removed from his contract and you'll be able to send him to the affiliate.  But even then, a 75 rated player would at the very least be a 3rd pair Dman in BHL.  When I promoted last season, my starting Dmen were rated 86-79-78-77-74-73.

  10. I had asked pretty much the same question here:  http://forums.gmgames.org/topic/8757-1w-contract-after-being-traded-down/

I'm in SHL and acquired a player from a GHL team earlier this season who did not have a 1W/PC and after the trade, he had a 1W/PC contract.  But I have also seen other players go from GHL to SHL and not have 1W/PC contracts after.

After digging into it a bit further, it seems like most players traded down a league will have their salary adjusted accordingly and take on a 1W/PC contract.  In the rare cases where the players did not take on a 1W/PC contract, their salary was not adjusted... and in both cases it appears they were originally SHL players who were not on 1W/PC contracts, so when traded to GHL, their salary did not adjust.... then when traded back to SHL their salary did not adjust.

    Follow me?

So the short answer is no, this is not a bug.  Players who are traded down a league will have their salary adjusted and take on a 1W/PC... which seems like a fair trade off.

*players on their Entry-Level contract will not get the 1W/PC.

  11. Is that why you changed your jersey colors - hoping to spark the home crowd?

This totally worked btw.  Started 2-0-2-6 at home this season.  I am now 11-0-2-7.  9-1 at home in my last 10 games.  Deferiet Garden is once again a feared arena for all opponents to play in.  A combination of the uniform change and the $1 whiskey shots (limit of 8 per period) keeps the fans lubed up and loud.

  12. Are your nervous players playing poorly?  Worse than your Determined/Stable players?

I have a few Nervous/Anxious players, but they perform just as well, if not better, than my other players.  I've always thought the Big Games trait was more of an overall team factor (i.e. Winner Instinct).  Or maybe if you have enough Heroic/Determined/Stable players it will offset the Nervous players... and if you have too many Nervous players, like you said, then players actually start playing that way?  I'm just grasping at this point.

  13. Thanks for the response again, bhandsome.  Appreciate you taking the time to look into it.  I have looked at a few examples and it seems like if the player has a Promotion Contract then his salary will be reduced and he will get a PC/1W.  If the player does NOT have a Promotion Contract he will remain at the same salary, just with NO PC/1W.  (I think...)

  14. 2-way contract players will stay 2-way if they move down one league. If they were to move another league down their contract switches to 1-way.

If they didn't have any contract clauses the contract switches to 1-way if moved one league down.

Hey - thanks for the response.  This lost me, though.  Having a 2-way contract is the same as not having a contract clause, right?  Or does a promotion contract factor in?

  15. I have seen multiple players traded down to a lower league... some from GHL to SHL, and others from SHL to BHL.  Obviously those players were on 2-way contracts.  In some cases after being traded down, the player is now on a 1-way contract - and in other cases the player remains on a 2-way contract.

I am just wondering if there is anything specific taken into considering that would make a player's contract 1-way vs. keeping it 2-way?  I ask purely out of curiosity.

  16. My team baffles me this season.  Not so much my overall record as I'm a #1 Center away from making any kind of playoff run.  But my home/away records...

    Home:  2-0-2-6

    Away:  7-1-0-3

From season 10 - 12 I was nearly invincible at home in BHL.  71-3-4-12

  17. I actually got the rejected transfer message this morning for the first time.  Although slightly different scenario than you as I also had a waiver claim + FA bid that put me slightly over the cap.  I've canceled the waiver claim so I'll confirm tomorrow if I'm still getting the transfer reject notification.

  18. I think it would be cool to have some additional jersey options to give teams a larger sense of identity - and to expand from 2 to 3 color combinations.  I noticed at the jersey select screen there is a drop down for Jersey Type, but there is currently only 1 option, which leads me to believe there was initial intent for multiple options.

I was looking at all the NHL jersey styles and came up with the three styles below.

    1. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim+ shoulders (BOS, EDM, STL)

    2. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim + middle stripe (MTL, MIN, FLA)

    3. Sleeve stripes + bottom trim (CHI, DAL, VAN)

You could mimic other teams jerseys such as Detroit/Toronto by selecting option 3 and just choosing 2 colors.  The current design could still remain for nostalgic purposes and purists.

    Thoughts?
