  1. Physicality is a pretty big part of this game.  You can even select offensive and defensive tactics that are based on physicality.  And there is fighting.  If you want more, I would recommend players with a high Physical attribute.  Tough and Agitator players should help, too.  And you can select players to be Enforcers.

My team averages a fighting major once every two games, which seems about right.

  2. Obviously not a trade comment, but has anyone been able to resign any players to new contracts yet?  Everyone of mine says "happy with current contract" no matter how good or bad they are.

Been wondering this myself.  All my players on outgoing contracts are "happy with their current contract" as well.

  3. The Leopards are 16-8-5-15 since our 20-game winning streak ended.  I made some mid-season moves involving top end defenders that were beneficial to the team long-term (one very risky that is looking to pay off big), but are hurting short-term.  Overall happy how things are playing out, but much room for improvement.

  4. - Chemistry between the lines: We need more micromanagment, please. To give more control in putting our lines/teams togeather. Maybe even of personality effect of how certain people blend with each other.

    - More tactical options: Possiblity to set playstyle individially, like for example, telling players individually to go tough or gentle. That way we could have certain lines doing that, or even just players. Not just entire team. This is just an example, but I would get things complex here, I dunno, FM style ;) The more we feel in control of our team, the more we will dive into the game.

I'll start with these two, because I love both suggestions.  IMO, the more in depth, the better.  About a year ago, I made a suggestion that teams should not be limited to a single offensive or defensive tactic.  Instead, it would be cool if we were allowed to play different tactics per line.  For example, Line 1 could use Possession, Line 2 is Dump and Chase, Line 3 could Crash the Net and so on.  Or if we wanted to limit it in any way, allow teams to become familiar with 2 offensive and defensive tactics, each, instead of all of them.  That way we could build a more versatile team, which would drive interest.

    - Development of players: They seem to progress too slow. Especially the young ones... I would expect them to grow a bit more. Can't say I have older players regress quick, as I don't have too many.

This one I don't agree with.  I think player progression is right where it should be.  One of the main reasons for the game refresh was to get ratings back in check.  If players increased like they used to, every GHL team would again be full of 90+ players and it would take a lot of the strategy out of it.  IMO, it's good to see some top line players in GHL that have an attribute flaw here and there.  Also, I've seen some younger players who are improving quite nicely.  But overall, I think current development is optimal for the game long term.

*Edit: either that, or we increase the rate of improvement, which would add some excitement, but start the ratings much lower.  Top 6 guys in GHL draft right now are 85-88.  We could start them at 75-78.

    - Trading when playoffs start for non playoff teams: Now, here is the tricky one. I almoust wanted to get knocked out of playoffs last season (eventually I did, but due to being outplayed by better team) so I can start trading as soon as possible and having advantage over those who are still there and want the same players I do. Not sure how to approach this one, but current system is somewhat abusable. For example, the best player in Cage GHL (Elie-Breton) is in possibilty of getting relegated trough possible playoffs and manager could trade him to some teams for picks or prospects before he losses him due to 1w contract. Teams that are out of playoffs can move in for him if he relegates, since they will have small chance of signing him for free later due to team reputation, while many other teams are still locked in playoffs. Its just a stupid example, but its abuseable. Maybe to allow all teams to trade when playoffs start, but those trades would start being effective last day of the season when everything is played and before relegated people lose players to contracts.

My original suggestion was for a trade deadline around day 66, which happens now, and for it to be locked through end of season.  Anders went a different direction and opened it up again during playoffs for a few reasons (1) to keep eliminated managers interested (2) to allow the team that got relegated via playoff a chance to make moves before next season.  Both of these are understandable.  To your point, it definitely is not the most fair approach, but the goal should be to make the playoffs and try to win it all.  If eliminated teams are making moves during that time, then it is what it is.

I think there is a simple solution here.  Teams who are still in the playoffs can make verbal offers.  If I'm in 11th or 12th place and have to battle for relegation, I would already be talking to all the playoff team managers and coming up with a plan in case of relegation.  But I guess I'm also optimistic that relegating managers would accept the "best" offer for their players to keep things fair and not the very first offer thrown their way.

This is also the reason why I think players should ask for a bit of money during negotiations, so it's harder to score a guy like Elie Breton and also have a lot of depth.  I feel that if you have a few 94+ players on your roster, they should come with a high cap hit and there should be holes in your roster elsewhere.

This topic is definitely worth a lengthy discussion.  Interested to keep it going and see what others have to say.

  5. In my guide or in the game?

Either way, don't take more emphasis on physical skills or speed in tactics to mean that it suddenly trumps skill in importance in where to put players in your lineup. At the end of the day, the actual skills (pass, puck, shot and def for skaters) of the players will eventually trump everything but a better combination of skill and tactics. It makes absolutely no sense to play a physical specimen of a player on the top line over a slower and less physical but more offensively skilled guy. For example, think Martin St. Louis vs Colton Gillies. Ok, that is a more extreme example I grant but hopefully, you get my point. Maybe a more reasonable example would be Ray Whitney vs Chuck Kobasew. This is the most common mistake I see in lineups. Managers not putting better offensively skilled players higher up in their lineup because they are either lower overall or don't fit their desired tactics. If the player doesn't fit your tactics trade them for someone who does with similar skill rather than subbing them in a skilled role with someone that has less skill. Again it makes no sense to do that.

In the game.  What you are saying makes a lot of sense.  I was just putting a bit of stock into what the game said as well.

    For example:

    Dump and Chase

"An offensive strategy in which a team shoots (or "dumps") the puck into the attacking zone and aggressively pursues it in hopes of retrieving possession and setting up a scoring chance. Most effective for teams with enough speed and size to force opposing defensemen off the puck."

"Pros:  Good for teams with limited puck skills and effective against very defensive teams with a passive approach"

"Player characteristics: Speedy and gritty players that can work hard"

    Spread

"In the spread, once the opponent takes the puck behind his net, a forechecking winger moves from the right to flush him out. The other winger then moves from the opposite side and forces the enemy skater to get rid of the puck.

"Player characteristics:  Speedy and physical players"

This would seem to insinuate that a player with higher Skating and Physical attributes would in fact have a defensive advantage.  Not to say that they are more important than the "Defense" rating, but if Defense is the same.

Hence my attraction to fast and physical players.

  6. Noticed a very minor glitch today.  When viewing the in world Managers tab, I noticed 3 issues.

    1. Many of the teams are incorrect for the respective manager.

    2. There are some managers/teams listed that are not in the specific world (i.e. in Cage, Anders Granberg/Wintersville Lancers is listed).

    3. When you click on the team name, many teams link to a different team altogether (ex: clicking on Wintersville Lancers maps to Horn Lake Hooligans).

  7. Yes. Player 1 will never be the better performing player outside of a depth role even in that case. He can't provide the same offense and he doesn't provide a defensive advantage either.

I trust your opinion on this.  The only thing I'll say is if this is true, then the Explain Tactics section is slightly deceiving.

  8. Day 66.  It's displayed on the League Schedule page.

Then it opens up again on Day 87 (during the playoffs) for all teams who are eliminated.  From what I understood in a post from Anders, playoff teams will be allowed to trade again once they get eliminated from the playoffs.

  9.

            P1 | P2

    Spd  85 | 75

    Pas  75 | 85

    Pct   85 | 85

    Sht   75 | 85

    Def   75 | 75

    Phy  85 | 75

    Spi   75 | 75

    End  85 | 75

    Fof   85 | 85

P1 is nothing more than a 4th line SHL or GHL checker or a poor choice for a BHL offensive forward whereas P2 is a player, depending upon the talent of the league, that can potentially play a 2nd or 3rd line offensive role in the GHL.

Rain - do you feel the same way if a manager uses tactics that specifically call for Speed and Physicality?  I'm sitting here thinking, give me Player 1!  Haha.

  10. Wondering if this is a glitch or behaving as expected.  If not a glitch, this could be a game changer for evaluating players.  Looking forward to the answer.  Thanks for the heads-up!

  11. At least the division became intresting :D

I am 9-0-0-4 in my last 13 games, after some trades and valuable advice from few kind people. Also, managed to get a win or two against some top teams (Minuteman, Leopards, Hawks, Union), yet 2 losses came from teams in relegation zone. Lets see if we can make it to playoffs.

Well I don't like it one bit.  Haha.

Yeah, I've had some odd results as well.  Most of my recent wins have been against playoff teams while most of my losses have been against non-playoff teams.  I remember thinking during my 20 game winning streak (23 if you count preseason) that my team wasn't THAT good.  Now I'm here thinking my team can't be this bad.  But after watching Columbus destroy Tampa in round 1, that type of thing is just realistic.

  12. Are you talking specific attributes or overall rating?  I've had 15-20 attributes increase (Passing from 87 to 88, etc.), but only 2 younger players have increased their Overall rating.  I think this is to be expected.

    Two things to consider:

    1) The worlds went from 77 to 108 days.  The timing of ratings increases should decrease for this reason.  If a player under the old world increased every 25 days, that would be equivalent to increasing every 36 days in the new world.  In both cases, the player increases 3x per season.

    2) Part of the reason for the refresh was to even out player ratings and make them more realistic (not have a GHL team where 90% of your players are 90+).  I think ratings increases have been scaled back for this reason.  So combining both of these changes, managers will start to notice much slower improvements to players.

  13. Ugh, I actually hate the B's jersey and therefore Paul's!  haha.  But yes, it is subjective.  I prefer to see people's jersey's that are original, give me something I haven't seen before and memorable.

Hey... HEY!  This thread is for "Top" Jerseys, not "Jerseys I think are crap".

  14. Minor suggestion, but can the Reply and Delete buttons be moved to the top of messages instead of at the very bottom?  I've recently had some lengthy conversations with other managers and after about 8 or so messages you are scrolling down quite a bit to hit reply.  And if you're using a phone, forget it.

  15. The specifics of training is unknown.

From experience, the Offensive, General, Defensive only has a small impact on what attributes increase faster.  If I had to guess, it would be something like:

    Off - Shot/Pass

    Def - Def/Phy

    Gen - Skate/Puck/Spirit/End

What I know is that your team tactics factor into this quite a bit.   When I used Puck Possession, the Pass/Puck skills of my players improved faster than all others.  Now that I use DumpNChase, my Skating and Spirit improves quickest.  I also believe that a players role has a minor impact as well.

  16. The post that had to come eventually...

Nice work.  I was thinking of doing exactly this, but haven't had a chance to look through every team yet.  I'll add my list to this post eventually...

Deferiet Leopards: Colors match nicely and I am really getting a Bruins feeling off this design.

    Go Bs!

  17. To be fair, this was occurring in the old worlds as well.  Starting around day 40, every 4th day or so, players would randomly appear in the FA list.  There was a group of about 15 managers (myself included) who would bid on them.  I was in SHL at the time and whenever a GHL manager bid it was game over.  The difference was the players were always SHL caliber players (SHL starter/GHL affiliate), not GHL starters.  But anyways...

I also agree with Steve that we can't fault the managers who are bidding.  If it's in the game it should be fair play.  But agree with the overall theme here that it should be changed because there's too many loopholes and a certain unfairness to it all.

  18. i would be nice to see no more FA's added to the game after the mid point in the season aswell

Agree.  I'm not sure why they appear at all.  I suppose it does add some excitement to the game there's no denying that.  But if players that are randomly spawning out of thin air are GHL 1st & 2nd line caliber, we are going to end up with all star teams like in the old worlds.
