  1. IP: Lets talk about Hoglund. 3 points for 6 minutes of ice time. Awesome.

A: Yeah, but he wasn't quite happy with his performance. His confidence is dented and he is crying in locker room now.

    IP: How so?

A: He had 0 hits and 0 takeaways.

IP: But he scored a goal and had two assists.

    A: No hits, no takeaways...

I've read this multiple times now and this part gets me every time.

  2. Big game against Leopards today. Last time it was 7-2 for Pauls side, worst defeat in franchise (tho short it is) history. However, many players changed teams from both sides and this will be whole new game...

Dragons have streak of 8-1-0-1, while Leopards are at 7-1-2-0 coming from a 6-1 win against Tomahawks. Also, both team are using different styles... a true test for my new tactics :)

I held the Fab Five (Breton, McGraw, Arnesen, Viviers, Ranta) to 1 point and a combined -2.  Unfortunately, Hector Hoglund, the 81 Overall, 176 lb. stud scored a goal and 2 assists +3 for the win.  Crazy stuff.

  3. The next 8 or so games for me will show if my early success is fleeting or if I've truly turned the team around from last season's mess.  All 8 games are against teams currently in the playoffs and most in the top half of the standings.  Lost a weird one against Leopards last night.  We each had a SHG and he went 1/2 on PP against the #1 PK unit in the league (well, before last night, haha!) by getting three goals in the 3rd to win 4-2.  Didn't help I was short handed the last 3.5 minutes of the game either!

There's been a SHG scored in just about 50% of my games this season.  Think that's the 9th one scored against me in 22 games - and I've probably scored 4 or 5.  Crazy.

  4. To SHL teams:

I'm willing to package 3 of my two-way players for an SHL 2nd.  There's a few I want to keep for development/injury purposes, but most are available.  Don't really care if you are in a promotion position or not, I just like doing draft research and drafting.  Send PM or offer if interested.

  5. Is Cage dead rn too? Attack is.

Nope.  We occasionally just need a kick in the a$$ to start chatting again.  Although it's summer time, so I'd expect the forums to be less active than normal over the next couple of months.

  6. If I may expand on this list, which includes prospect reputation and a few others (Ranked from High to Low):

    1. Legendary

    2. Superstar, Super Diva

    3. Star, Diva

    4. Well known, Shooting Star

    5. Famous

    6. Renowned, Late bloomer, Up and Coming

    7. Recognized, Promising

    8. Familiar, Hot prospect

    9. Accepted, Decent prospect

    10. Unproven

    11. Unknown

  7. Opposing goalies are kicking our a$$.

    Paturel (Vauban)... 2 GA .931

    Lang (Cedar)... 1 GA .950

Real (Mt Airy)... 1 GA .967

    Matheson (Bodmin) Shutout

    Cutter (Kegashka)... 1 GA .968

Offensive tactic is a few games into Blue familiarity, boys need to stop making excuses.

  8. So... who are contenders this year? :)

    Hawks, Leopards, Cats, Prairie Stars.

    As of right now, everyone!

My favorites this season would be Union, Cats & Tide out of the East - and Hawks, Prairie & Ricochet out of the West.

Don't let the power rankings deceive you, the Def Leppards have some internal struggles we are dealing with (both tactically and personnel-wise).  We may or may not turn it around by end of season.

  9. I agree with the problem this is trying to solve, but maybe not the proposed solution.  That being said, this topic of inter-league trading has come up a few times in the past and is one that needs active discussion.

    To answer the initial questions:

Picks switching between promoting and demoting teams.  Uhm, whats the logic behind that?

As was already stated above, the logic is to reward the lower league team for promoting to an upper league and penalize the relegating teams.  I think this is a good thing.

    Except its super abusable?

100% agree and we need to come up with a solution to make it less abusable.

I mean, shouldn't relegated team (when losing his whole team most of the time)  have something to be happy about? And also something to build upon in the future?  This way most people just quit.

If people quit because of being relegated or having a bad team, they are missing the point of the game and it's their loss.  I stated in another thread somewhere that the managers I had the most respect for weren't the teams battling it out for the GHL Cup (sure, those managers are competent and deserve praise as well), but rather the managers who were being relegated and stayed with their teams.  Afterall, it's a manager game.  The main object shouldn't be to just win.  The object should be to make your team better and get them to perform well regardless of your starting point.  If you win in the process, cool.  But if I ever get relegated, I will look at that as a new, exciting challenge.  I'm not sure how long I will play this game, but if/when I decide to retire, it will probably be because of real life getting in the way, not because of having a losing team.

Another thing to mention, unrelated to upper league teams from "abusing" it, is that inter-league trading is also unfair to the lower league teams who don't trade with upper league teams.  I would advise all lower league teams to keep their picks as it will pay off greatly upon promotion, but when other teams are getting stacked around you, I can understand why some teams feel it necessary to do so.

Now that that is out of the way, what are the possible solutions.

    1) Picks don't change upon promotion/relegation

Pros:  Upper league teams cannot easily secure top picks.

Cons:  No reward for recently promoted teams.  Even more difficult for recently promoted teams to compete.

    2) Eliminate trading between leagues (I actually suggested this in the Focus Group).

Pros:  Upper league teams cannot easily secure top picks.  Lower league teams cannot easily stack their roster.

Cons:  Less communication/interaction between managers (game needs more, not less).  It will be harder for lower league teams to compete with recently relegated upper league teams that prepared for relegation (hence why I also suggested an earlier trade deadline, but that's another topic).

    3) Hear me out on this one.  What if when a player is traded to a lower league, the player's salary was not adjusted?  So if they were in GHL for 500K on a 2-way contract and got traded to SHL, the contract was STILL 500K, not 125K (or whatever it would be).  I suppose this wouldn't totally solve the problem, but it would make it less abusable because lower league teams would think twice about acquiring players for picks.  As it stands, the lower league teams currently benefit in two ways.  First, they get elite talent for their league level, and second, they get that elite talent at a massive discount vs. what they would have had to pay for signing the player themselves.

    4) Roster limits.  Haven't totally thought this through, but it would prevent managers from stacking 2-way contracts for the sole purpose of trading them.  At the very least, it would limit the number of trades.

    5) Transaction and/or trade limit per season.  I get this would take some of the fun out of the game, but both 4 and 5 would make your moves a little more strategic.  Unlimited trading leads to all sorts of "abuse".

    Keep the discussion going...

  10. That said, my team was built to win in the next 3-4 seasons, all key players are signed long-term, and I am impressed with their play (and balls) this year.

Oohhhhhhhh.  Well this is awkward.  We are also planning to win in the next 3-4 seasons.

Of course we first need to figure out what those balls are that you speak of.

  11. Wish I had more time to do a more in depth analysis, but here's the round 1 matchups.

    EAST

#1 Union vs. #8 Duhawks (Union won season series 3-1)

#2 Leopards vs. #7 Bulldogs (Leopards won season series 3-1)

#3 Stray Cats vs. #6 Minutemen (Stray Cats won season series 3-1)

#4 Red Tide vs. #5 Nightmares (Nightmares won season series 3-1)

    WEST

#1 Prairie Stars vs. #8 Tomahawks (season series tied 2-2)

#2 Hawks vs. #7 Rage (season series tied 2-2)

#3 Ricochet vs. #6 Outlaws (Ricochet won season series 3-1)

#4 Pirates vs. #5 Wolverines (season series tied 2-2)

The #1 Union sweep the Duhawks and the #4 Red Tide sweep the Nightmares, which sets up a Battle of the Titans in Round 2.  Union currently lead 2-0, but I'd be surprised if the Tide don't make a push in game 3 to extend the series.

The other matchup is #7 Bulldogs vs. #2 Stray Cats, where the Bulldogs look to continue their domination over feline teams.  Series currently sits at 1-1.

Out West we have the #1 Prairie Stars, who won the President's Trophy facing off against the red hot Wolverines.  The P-Stars just evened the series at 1-1 in an offensive slugfest.

And the #2 Hawks (Legends of game world Biscuit) take on the #3 Ricochet.  The Hawks continue their defensive domination and lead the series 2-0.

  12. /\

Well that was odd.  The notification was that the computer team canceled the trade, as if they offered it, not that it was rejected.  Weird.  But I'm glad it's not easy to trade with the com anymore.  Good stuff.

  13. ** Re: Trading with Computer teams **

There was an offer on a Defenseman I was planning to go after in Free Agency, so I threw in an offer myself.  I am pretty sure it will go through (or maybe it won't... who knows).  The relegating computer team WILL be getting some value in this deal.

That all being said, I'd much rather have an enjoyable community, so if anyone wants the trade to be reversed (again, jumping the gun here assuming it will go through) then I will contact the Admins to have it reversed and have the player set to Untouchable.

  14. On the Cage chat page we chatted about computer trades the other day.  Well, there is a player on a relegating team I was going to go after in free agency, however, there is now a trade offer for him and I feel like it is forcing my hand a bit.  I'm sure I could make the deal, while giving the relegating team some really good value in return.  I guess I'll have to see if my conscience gets the better of me.  That first round playoff exit is swaying me to the dark side

  15. My vote for Manager of the Year goes to Steven Bennett, Eldred Elite.

Sitting at 8-3-3-32 over half way through the season and well into relegation, he somehow turned his team around and clawed his way back into the GHL relegation playoffs and won a decisive Game 5, 1-0, to stay in the big leagues.

    Well done, Steve.
