TheWeekKnights got a reaction from littleb in Trade abuse with computers
Just to throw in my two cents that no one asked for:

    1. Everybody needs to calm down.  This is a forum for an online game, not a political protest.  There are plenty of ways to bring up an issue you have with the game without personally attacking people.  And there are plenty of ways to defend yourself without getting into essentially a yelling match.  I haven't ever seen this from the community, and I'm disappointed.  Let's keep it constructive.

    2. CPU trading, in my opinion, is pretty balanced now.  It's almost impossible to rip off the computer, and you truly have to give up something good to get something from one of those teams.  If it's not unbalanced in the CPU's favor, the trade is not going through.  Besides, you should have seen it a few seasons ago when you could give up 3 old guys who aren't very good with orange trade value and get a top prospect.  It's come a long way and I think it's a good part of the game.

    3. The game is still being developed, and it's certainly not flawless.  But it changes and grows and gets better all the time, so bring up your complaints in a way that makes people want to listen, discuss, and make those changes, and it'll improve more quickly.

    4. This isn't meant to be condescending, I just like the game too much to see people rip it to shreds.

    5. Now I feel like a parent.  Great.

Although I like all the attention when I make a trade, this topic is clearly another attack against me. If you look closely in every level, there are trades with the CPU. Unfair or fair is subjective as every manager will say otherwise.

Regarding the Betts trade I explained it in the chat. Honestly I don't even know why I should explain myself. This is a solid trade and it was unbalanced on my part. I talked with several managers about it, some say I won but others said I gave too much.

It's pathetic to see that this trade is again the center of attention as there have been many before and there will be many after as long as you can trade with CPU.

And if you want to attack me as a player and saying I made other unfair trades and abused the system, please give examples and say which cheat I used. Very sad topic and should be removed in my opinion.

I think development in general has been slowed so I'm not sure I'd start dealing your prospects immediately unless they haven't been developing over the last few seasons.

Playing in the GHL is painful to watch. While my team in General is playing ok we find new ways to lose every day! Today my 'Gentle' (yeah, the guy who is afraid to see anyone hurt) spirited Forward, Vachon, decided to knee someone and was called for an obvious Major Kneeing Penalty. Off he goes to spend 5 minutes in the box. This is our only penalty the entire game and it's most likely due to the rage that came spewing from the coach after seeing three goals scored during that one penalty. Slap another standard goal on a few minutes later and my best goalie gets pulled for the night - end of the 1st period: 0-4.

Oddly enough the next two periods go great and my struggling Goalie now gets a 100% on his saves and we actually score a point - marvelous loss boys, just marvelous!

Later that day Slaughterville fired their Assistant after his report stated that our team's PK and PP played well against the opponent. Couldn't be that our PP went 0-3 and our PK unit went 3-1, right?

Good points on both sides, but personally, I like the little extra complexity the 3rd round picks offer.  And it's always rewarding if you find a 'gem' with that pick.  Yes, most of them never pan out, but I feel like server strain may not actually be a massive problem, and very few NHL draft picks pan out in real life, too.  That's part of the fun.  I like the discussion, though, it's a good suggestion.  I just personally like it enough to keep the 3rd rounders.

I disagree. I've successfully built a few lumber LIHL teams using the unwanted 3rd rounders of higher divisions, so I'll try to explain.

    a) The average isn't that good of a tool in the lower leagues and with the recent update, should give the highest picks a bit more variation. I arbitrarily just looked at the Fishbowl 1st round IHL expected picks. The highest rated was 65 overall and the lowest was 49 overall. Sure the average is 60, but anyone who does their due diligence can grab a guy that makes the team within a couple seasons.

The development is often a lot faster on your own team if players are given a chance. I managed to sign a 64ish overall player in the LIHL on my last lumber team who was originally a 3rd round SHL pick. 2 seasons later, he was 79 overall and should have been an SHLer but had to stick with me for a couple more seasons. What I'm saying is that players don't need to be league ready a couple seasons after they are drafted. It doesn't usually work like that in the NHL and shouldn't work like that here.

    c)  This is a bit of a continuation from the last point, but I've found guys have a potential relevant to where they are drafted. That 49 overall guy I mentioned earlier will likely end up in the IHL or even BHL if given a chance. But if those players were not LIHL picks like you want, they'd quickly outgrow the league and you'd have a bigger issue of players leaving as soon as their entry level expires. (I'll add that some people already find it an issue that their own drafted stars already often want to leave for greener pastures.) Sure this could be mitigated by proportionally reducing the number of draftees, but then we'd be in your same problem of having what looks like useless picks.

    d) I had one more point but have forgotten it, I'll edit this post if it comes back.

I don't think Anders has created a live play-by-play we can watch as the game is simulated yet.  I think that was mentioned in the roadmap for a later addition, but right now, I think the results and play-by-play happen at the same time.

Would love to see this in the general conversation because I've seen it in most every league...hate getting shutout by a guy who has to be carted off the ice after every match! I suspect a form of PED + Narcotic combo...only way to explain that!

    Hello all,

Just tossing my two cents here regarding the transfer market search functions.  We can look as this as a complete overhaul/update OR make it a Supporter/All-Star function and that could help drive some players to support as well.

    Categories:
Filter by League Level Filter by Character Trait Filter by Height Filter by Weight Filter by classification (Powerforward, Sniper, Twoway) Search by Name League Level - This could be to look up prospects that are within your tier or above for trading purposes.
Character Trait - Helps narrow down the type of player you want
Height - Definitely helps narrow down your size range
    Weight - Same as above
Classification - Looking for a Two-Way Forward?  Here's your candidates.  BUT the catch here is that some players may have a primary and be able to fill some secondary roles.  Your responsibility to dig here.
Search by Name - Good way to find a player you're looking for specifically.

    Just my two cents

OK This has been an ongoing issue for me in various leagues. My team in League Clapper/Bronze has Won his 1st two games of a best of 3 series. In the 3rd game which is unnecessary because he has already won the series my Best guy gets hurt. He is now out for the remainder of the playoffs and the beginning of next season. Now that I have moved on for the series against the silver League team with far greater skill levels I stand very little chance of competing and greater chance of further injury to the rest of my team.

I believe this playoff format to be very unbalanced for 1. - Unnecessary games exposing teams to unwarranted injury. and 2. Competition against Higher level teams is in no way a fair competition,

Possibly Injuries attained during playoffs would not be carried over to the following season but that only fixes half the problem because injuries occurred in extra games still short you for the remainder of the playoffs.

Remove unwarranted games as nothing is gained except some player experience weighed against possible player injury.

Thanks for the consideration and the Great Game!

@ TheWeekKnights  Thanks It was fun waiting for this to go down. I like being in the playoffs... even relegation...hopefully we do well... I'd like to win the first round but I don't think my team is strong enuff to make the next jump to BHL.... but I won't complain if we do LOL. Good luck yerself ....GHL is a tough league. getting to the playoffs is great. to know you'll be there next season must be satisfying. I'll be watching the playoffs...again...good luck!

It's been a wild season in the IHL and my Cherokees are walking a tight rope. Coming down the stretch and clinging to 3rd place, we've been active in the trade market looking to make some upgrades and add some depth. The team called up 1st round draft pick Victor Skvortsov for a cup of coffee, and he bangs home 2 goals from the 4th line, including the game winner! I guess he's earned himself a 2nd game. And with Baden's Skyline breathing down my neck, we're going to need some guys to step up and have a big game. Game 4's tonight with a lot on the line in these tight standings...Best of luck!

Well, S20 is done for the Wolves. Our first season in the SHL and we finished 9th, which was pretty respectable.

Highest rank during the season was 6th, and we held that for longer than we probably should have -- kept it while we had a 5-game losing streak!

Going into the season, I signed a big-name goalie and he finished 4th in the league... actually the guy probably kept us in it longer than we deserved. Now that we've lost him to $$, we're turning to our #2 goalie for S21. No idea how we'll survive.

If it turns out that S21 puts us into relegation, I'm still happy with where the team is at: most of my contracts have no one-way clauses, the roster age is quite young, and I've been able to draft in the SHL position in the S19 and S20 seasons... it puts my team into a great location to ride the SHL/BHL line for a while.

Extra bonus: I got to trade blows with Slaughterville! It was good while it lasted

I agree, and definitely have signed a few prospects from free agency just to send them to my affiliate.  Granted they were more in the 78-82 overall range, but they still would have been a good addition to an SHL team.  As is, the affiliate system definitely favors the GHL.  I absolutely love how I can call someone up if there's an injury on my team, so I feel like affiliates are a good addition to the game overall, but the system will need some adjustments.  I can see them becoming abused very quickly.

Well Lets start this like this, i am happy to be in GHL.

I think that i would stop playing this game if i would get promotion example from IHL to BHL. Only because the game is impossible for the teams who are getting promoted, also unfair for everyone who is not playing in GHL.

I see GHL teams sign players with 72 overall from free player market only because they are almost free when you  place them in affiliate team. I mean cmon its the same thing if you would pay the player with peanuts. You can keep the player in your affiliate team like 15 years only to see if he someday becomes something. And if not, no harm is done.

meanwhile managers in lower leagues are in struggle when there is only trash players left in the market.

I lose 84 overall center to a team who already had 10 centers in the roster, and my guy were not even close getting in the top 4. Its one thing to make huge overpay for 1st liner, but this i don't understand.

This is complete abuse of the affiliate system. Hogging all the players from free market and put them in affiliate team almost free, so others wont get them, or maybe cause in 10 years the player might have a shot getting in the main team if he develops fast enough.

I can easily live with the matter that it seems to be impossible for me to sign a decent center from market if i wont overpay big time. But all this player hogging and system abuse from top teams is ruining the game from everyone who is playing lower leagues.

I think we all know what will happen when GHL and SHL team are trying to sign the same player.

When i did read about the affiliate teams first time i was pumped. Thinking that this would add so much fun for this game, now i have a place where i can keep my top prospects a couple more years until i give them a fair change in my main team. Oh boy i was wrong. Looks like all somewhat good players from SHL and BHL are going in to the GHL managers affiliate teams from now on.
    Promoted teams R.I.P

Again like i said, glad to be in GHL. And all those who are not, good luck trying to build a proper team.
