Draft picks will become more useful!!!

Everyone's on an even playing field!!!

I definitely support this, it would for sure be enjoyable. I think I may have suggested this myself before or supported it. Either way, it has been talked about by Anders and it would be great to see it implemented.

But I don't think divisions should be shuffled every season.

Divisions would probably be based on the city you choose.

Ex. If you choose Mississauga as your city you'll likely be in the Eastern Conference.

Divisions however could be slightly shuffled every few seasons, and everytime a new manager comes in and changes the city it could shift the conferences and divisions around.

    Great idea.
I would do 32 teams though split into 4 divisions, within 2 conferences.
    28 division games + 16 Conference games + 16 Inter-conference games = 60 games.
And shuffle the teams in each division and conference so we're not playing the same teams over and over after every season. ei. put high ranking teams into one division/ conference and lower ranked teams into another division/ conference. Maybe it would create balance

    Hiya guys,

I'm not sure if this has already been suggested...didn't really check through the threads.

Would it be possible to have a new World created that runs on the "North-American" type of Leagues? So, a World without the promotions/relegations, like the NHL? Not sure how much work would be required to make this happen, but it'd be pretty cool to start simultaneously with the affiliate teams update(NHL/AHL).

    1 League -> 2 Conferences -> 4 divisions -> 30(or more) teams total?

You could even forget the whole Conference/Division thing at the beginning tbh...

    What do you guys think?

I think it'd garner quite a bit of interest from the current GMs and any new guys coming in....I suppose one problem would be the World filling up quicker due to less teams?

Hi everyone, I'm brand new to all of this so I'll probably be browsing the forums later, haha.

I took over for the Black Bears in the LIHL and it looks like my team needs a lot of sprucing up, but that's pretty much how I like to start out anyway. This looks like a lot of fun so I'll be definitely trying to keep up with it as much as I can.

That's all from me, best of luck to everyone out there!

EDIT: I guess I should point out that I renamed my team the Fury.

I think viper is saying he just wants to see the play by play we already have in the game, but have it as another 'link' in the message inbox, to kind of feel like the game is happening at the present moment.

Also, I think this shows the true difficulty new teams coming into the GHL from SHL face trying to be competitive.  Had you run these numbers on Day 1, I guarantee Pegasus and Heroes would have been much lower averages.   Maybe it is too much to expect newly promoted teams to be competitive in Season 1, but this really quantifies the uphill battle they face on Game 1.

To combat some Monday boredom, I went ahead and calculated some average overall stats from GHL teams. Overall doesn't of course paint the full picture of a player's capabilities, and thus is only a vague approximation of what a team can do, but it's the only easily available number for comparison.

Team overalls here are comprised of the average of a team's best 18 skaters (12 centers/forwards, 6 defenders) and the starting goalie. OFF/DEF come from the same players, but are simply rounded up/down to the closest full number for clarity. SG is simply the assumed starting goalie (best overall). Calculations made on day 5 of S10.

Here are the numbers - teams are in order starting from best OVR.

    1.  West Chicago Protons (GM: Richard Feynman - bouncer)
    OFF: 89 DEF: 91 SG: 95 OVR: 89,5

    2.  Deadwood Vandals (GM: Kim Vandaele - koekefix)
    OFF: 87 DEF: 89 SG: 96 OVR: 88,4

    3.  Harrisonville Sabercats (GM: Hurja Herra)
    OFF: 88 DEF: 89 SG: 88 OVR: 87,6

    4.  Rome Trojans (GM: Yann Rock)
    OFF: 87 DEF: 88 SG: 91 OVR: 87,5

    5.  Cedar Rapids Minutemen (GM: Richard Armour)
    OFF: 86 DEF: 88 SG: 93 OVR: 87,1

    6.  Eldred Elite (GM: Steven Bennett)
    OFF: 86 DEF: 89 SG: 93 OVR: 87,0

    7.  Canmore Grizzlies (GM: Matt Muffett - themattinthehat)
    OFF: 86 DEF: 87 SG: 91 OVR: 86,9

    8.  Moapa Valley Gothic Knights (GM: David Chaw - FTW)
    OFF: 87 DEF: 87 SG: 90 OVR: 86,9

    9.  Richford Rebels (GM: Jusu Manager)
    OFF: 86 DEF: 89 SG: 89 OVR: 86,9

    10. St.Thomas Stray Cats (GM: Erzac Ray - Erzac)
    OFF: 87 DEF: 87 SG: 90 OVR: 86,8

    11. Portland Oilers (GM: Xavier Zhou - xZhou)

I'd say that the clapper draft looks to be pretty sick too! I saw an 85 OVR Goalie as soon as the initial prospect rankings came outt...and he has a whole season to develo still. Getting a near 90 goalie who's 18 in the draft is a touch crazy...just hope I suck enough to get that pick!

I think the development update that came into play a few seasons ago is working its wonders. I agree, it might need to be dialed back a bit. Lumber's faster, so we're just seeing the effects much quicker.

I have a feeling that it's like the GHL has something like 30 Crosbys in 16 teams now in Lumber, since imo. Biscuits draft pools keep getting better and better every year we go by. As does the players ovr in GHL. Lumber's just few seasons ahead.

I think talent is too abundant(?) in this game, not sure if it's a bug or not, but I'd like to see it tuned down.

And believe it or not, I'm currently going to have over 9m cap for next season so if someone is looking to clear some cap I could take one or two players, preferably C/F, but hit me up if you think you have something to offer.

E: I mean players that are going to be useful for me or you'r willing to pay smthng so for me to take them.

I feel the same way.  This season is the first that I hadn't fallen and I got exactly where I finished with that pick.  Unfortunately, I think Grizzlies will benefit the most from my luck this season, ha!

Amazed by the draft order again. Every year it's the same. My team is always getting the bad RNG in the draft. Luckily I traded with Wolf Pack for a higher pick or I would be getting my annual 16th pick, even though I'm not in first place. Oh the irony, even the pick I got from Wolf pack is 2 places lower than expected... And here I am thinking the draft order is random. Although I see almost the same teams getting higher picks as expected every year.

The first difference is the player you got in return can't win draws whereas Pearl was one of the best. That difference alone can actually be a big deal. Second Pearl was never going to put up much more in points from where you had him in the lineup and how you were utilizing him. That isn't your fault rather it is a trend I see in this game. The Vandals are using him in the exact same way you were by the way hence the lack of points with the Vandals too. And to be frank Pearl should never have been there to put up a lot of points. He just isn't that kind of offensive player. Think of Pearl as someone similar to Anisimov or Bonino. Solid, reliable two way players that can chip in offensively time to time. Finally I thought Pearl was actually playing well for you. Not great granted but I thought that he was still playing well for you. That said the player you got in return is more of an offensive player that can't win draws.

I call that: "playing yourself out of a job", when a player becomes unsignable.

Probably the fault of their agent though, telling them they're GHL ready, when no GHL team will hire them.

Would be funny to add a groveling feature: where 10 games into the season, you get a message from one of these guys that you have shortlisted, and the message essentially says: "Sorry to bother you, but if you have any space left on your team, I might be willing to take a pay cut. No more agent fees to pay, since I've fired him!"

Okay, so my idea is not quite as exaggerated as my title suggests, but it is still a suggestion to reduce the number of active players in the game.

My idea is simply that players above a certain age (25?) who remain unsigned after a full season have a chance that they decide that it is time to hang up their skates and retire from hockey. And the chance that they decide to retire early goes up with the number of consecutive seasons without being on a team. This chance would be added to however you have it set up with age now.

Because I've been doing a lot of math today, here's a formula for how I am imagining it would work :

    if Age >= 25 and #SeasonsNoTeam > 0
    (%Chance)=((#SeasonsNoTeam)^2 * 2.5%)

I think the 2.5% is fair because a player would still have the determination to succeed after only missing a single season and therefore a low chance of deciding to retire early, however, a player missing 6 seasons would be pretty sure that his career is over (having a 90% to retire with the equation) and a player who missed 7 seasons in a row would definitely decide to retire early. Also, remember that they should be added to whatever formulas you already have involving so an older player missing a few seasons would also be pretty much guaranteed to retire a bit earlier.

This idea stems from the fact that at the end of the season in Lumber there are currently 4883 free agents and a good portion of them are unlikely to ever get a contract offer. For a slower world, there are currently 2908 free agents in Fishbowl. I think it would also help with the oversaturation of players that we see in a lot of leagues as there will be fewer players available. It might also help keep the game running faster if the unused players are putting any strain on the server.

So what do you guys think?

I've always had very good goaltenders, skill wise, but they always seem to let me down when I need them the most. I switched goalies last season and this one is even worse

At least I'm still in a playoff spot in the GHL, so yeah it could be worse. Just a little frustrated that my goalie is killing my season so far considering I thought I was going to improve from last season.

Well... Now that the seasons midpoint is past us the poff picture looks quite a bit different than ~10games ago, but quite similar to the usual poff tree. Thought there's only handful of points separating 7th and 14th. I guess the competition gets tougher with every season we go by

    Pls, Steve, give up already

Okay, I'm gonna deflect this argument to two places before we have two big threads arguing about trade abuse. The first is the trade abuse thread here http://forums.gmgames.org/topic/7447-trade-abuse/page-5so that this thread can once again be a salty therapy thread

The second was my suggestion on this page http://forums.gmgames.org/topic/7457-ai-trade-values/ on my second post where I suggested that so many assets can only be traded for so many assets, I feel like that idea alone will stop the majority of what people consider abusive trades as they are usually a number thing.

As for my opinion on this case, I believe all human-human trades should be considered fair game unless it is blatant cheating (multiple accounts).
