I think in theory you are right.  The main reason I don't necessarily agree with this is because the overall ratings are already known... for current players, for free agents, for prospects... so it's not equivalent to real life that way.  To me the overall rating is the absolute base info you can get on a player, so why not make it easier to retrieve (along with shot R/L, height, weight).  In real life there are so many draft analysts, that they kind of tell you how good a player is at a certain time.

To me, the deeper information is the specific attributes.  Personally, I don't really go by the players overall rating since I want them to fit my team and a specific line and role.  The more in depth info is attributes, injury history, traits, stats and development.  Development probably being the biggest one since that impacts where a player will land overall.  I also strongly believe that stats are a good indicator of how well players perform.  I've acquired some players in the past with high overalls who just can't score and others who exceed expectations, so I think that is a great hidden trait.

But I would also be onboard with being able to export the specific attributes and leaving the overall hidden as well.  Just SOMETHING to shave off some time and encourage managers to do draft research.  Right now I think there's 2 types of managers when it comes to the draft.  Those who spend 10+ hours and those who don't bother at all.  I could be wrong.

    For number 2)

I think its right when those who are more willing to scout get the price for it BUT it really could have more tools. Maybe opinion to search players by certain skill rating range? Like on fa market.

    For number 4)

Should be there and could also add 5vs3 lines and 3vs5 lines?

Few suggestions more without big explanarions:

-Visual line chemistry (should reward long term lines, so you get reward for keeping same players and lines even several seasons)

-National teams and maybe even best managers from previous seasons could go to manage them for a season and highlight being world cup

-option to compare two players by ratings and profile

-individual stats leaders for 18-21yo players

-historical games between two teams (adding some rivarly)

-historical top 20 stats on certain league and also in your team

-play-by-play live feed. Dont know if its essy to code but would make evening even more thrilling

    -maybe U21 national teans too

-option to keep opponents specific player under extra focus

I think trading SHL picks is a bad idea, however, it depends on how you want to build your team. As Rain said, if you want to rush to GHL you can trade the 1st for quality 85-88 overall guys on 2way deals that can still be useful in the GHL.  I still am on the side of don't trade it but I think if it is for a few established mid 80's 18-23 year-olds it can be better if it is a weak draft.  That way you have a core when you promote.  It is all preference-based at the end of the day

True my salaries are more manageable, but sometimes I get a stiff the previous GM stuck me with. And 800 grand for a guy who is not really playing seems to be a waste to me.

I'm getting at when you have a player getting 6 minutes in your affiliate while some bum is getting 20 minutes a game.  Your prospect's growth is either going to be really slow, or they are going to have a lower ceiling than what they should with no growth at all.  When I got promoted to the GHL I had a bunch of 2way deals that I buried in the minors.  Since I had something like 15 forwards, 3 of them were always sitting.  That happened to be my prospects.  They weren't even that bad players either.  2 of them were 77 overall at 20 years old, and because of my older players getting playing time over them, they had no growth at all in any aspect of their game that season.

It would be nice to have the Computer GMs actually offer something in a trade that matches your transfer needs. For instance: I only have prospects up as my trade needs but I keep getting offers for really old guys that have bad contracts and are declining faster than a plane in a nose dive. I’m asking for prospects to circumvent some cap issues but am getting offers that put me in the red further. This also makes those offers pointless.

Well my problem is that I have 11 forwards, 6 dmen playing in my minor league team ( so many players cause I promoted). For some reason one of my prospects is scratched when there is an open spot available. Instead a computer without a link is playing. As rain said, we dont know exactly how much playing time affects development, but if it does we should be able to manage the playing time given. As far as waiving players, I only use that for 1 way contacts or i will just buyout the player. Typically, my players have trade value so i dont like giving them away for free. Also, ghl teams dont have access to a second affiliate.

That's true, there are some extra reputation labels that are used depending on the player's career status and personality. Thanks for the heads up.

Kyle44 got a reaction from Peekaboo in Retire
Ya, minor leaguers and players in Europe I could understand retiring, but a player in the top-level should not be retiring young if they are getting playing time in GHL, for instance.  Aside from special Patrik Berglund cases, players typically don't lose interest from hockey unless they are always on a bad team, or have a diminished role on the team.  I see your point, and for the most part agree rain, I just want to throw out there that a top prospect playing top minutes in the aahl would not retire in real life, even if they were lazy.

Your point on development I agree with 100%.  Players, especially goalies and dmen, typically don't fully develop until they are in their mid to late 20s.  Seeing a bit more development out of 22-27-year-olds would be nice, although I see also how this could create the same problem as old-gen of having too many top-end players.  So what I'd propose is having a larger development curve, but also more "busts" or less developed players in the draft.  That way prospects would actually develop more like real life, but the game wouldn't have a GHL with only 90+ players.  If not that then at least have more noticeable development in the 22-27 age range.

In other words more steady development over an extended time over the current burst development, talking in general, with ideally the same end results.

As for young players even at the top just up and retiring it still happens. It is just rarer. Paul Ranger as a real-life NHL example. He attempted a comeback which ultimately lead to nothing I grant but it is evidence that it does happen. Albeit as I said it is rather rare. I understand the points against it but it isn't completely unprecedented. I think the best way to take this is to try to keep an eye on how young they are consistently retiring. The frequency is the key to note here.

Ego - This can be looked at as the general disposition that a player has. It mainly impacts teamwork and how much the team likes to play with each other. You want to have a good mix of the best but don't get too concerned about having a few of the worse ones on your roster. It goes through these ranks from lowest to highest.
    Arrogant, cocky, responsible, friendly, compassionate.

Dirty - This is how dirty a player plays the game. The dirtier a player is willing to play the more they push the boundaries of the rules to gain an advantage. That also mean they are more likely to take penalties, especially majors that aren't fighting majors. It goes through these ranks from lowest to highest.
    Tough, agitator, respectful, gentle.

Leadership - This is a take on how much of a leader presence the player can have in the locker room. This is mostly relevant for whom you want to make captains for your team. This goes through these ranks from lowest to highest.
Anonymus, modest, respected, role model, motivator, commander, true leader

Big Games - This is a showing of how the player is likely to respond in big moments. The lower the ranking the more likely they are to make mistakes in big moments. It goes through these ranks from lowest to highest.
    Nervous, anxious, stable, determined, heroic.

Ambition - This is a showing of how much interest the player has in the sport and how much they care about how good they are. This is mostly going to be used in conjunction with development to determine how good the player might get. This may also have an impact on how long of a career a player may have. This goes through these ranks from lowest to highest.
    Lazy, half-hearted, enthusiastic, purposeful, ambitious.

    Hidden profile:
There is one hidden profile that used to be known. Talent. It was hidden for obvious reason. Everyone would go after the players with the highest ranking in this category without touching any of the others if at all possible. It made it too easy to go after the players that were most likely to be the best in the game.

The rankings might not be fully accurate but they are to the best of my knowledge. Also, I don't think I did the best job of describing the different profile points so do not hesitate to point out what is missing or may be worth including.

OK, great. Computer teams are designed to only sign new players if they have immediate roster needs, they will start checking their prospects if any of them would fill that need, if not they'll go for another player. But perhaps this design can be improved, it's not realistic to simply ignore a drafted player that could play at the team's level.

11-13 may be a tad high but 9 or 10 million for a star player is completely reasonable imo.  Especially since we aren't paying coaching staff salaries, large buyout penalties, retaining salary, etc.  So I still even think that the high salary deals are fair and at least keep the game interesting.  If no one had to deal with cap-hell then no one would be inclined to trade or waive players.

Not even part of buzzer but... anyways if you think about NHL, those are very fair salaries to be giving in this game if you think about what the star players make in real life.  Those contracts could handcuff a team but that is the commitment and sacrifice you make for talent.

Kyle44 got a reaction from ColoKrabatt in Retain Salary
I've been making lots of trade offers lately.  I've been finding that a lot of teams are close to the cap, and making trades is a little harder to do if you cannot retain salary.  I think being able to retain salary would allow more trades and make end of season trading easier.

This may be harder to program into the game, but adding the ability to add conditions to draft picks would be nice too.  That way if you get promoted, your picks are protected as well as if you miss the playoffs.  Also, it would add more value to the pick without conditions, and reduce the value but add security with them.

Just 2 ideas I had to improve trading!

The bug causing this has now been fixed. All prospects should also be back in junior teams. The prospect ranking list will however display them as free agents until the next prospect ranking is updated (midterm in Attack).

Was pushing this about a year ago for prospect development. One thing that used to baffle me was players would be playing out of position. I'd have top defensemen prospects playing as centers because they were the highest overall on my affiliate while my center prospects were playing wing.

As far as I'm aware the only way to improve faceoff rating is by the player taking a high volume of faceoffs. So my centermen would always be left in my affiliate longer because I could get them almost 800 faceoffs in the minors as opposed to only 300 when playing in my bottom six.

As for players getting stuck behind bums in your affiliate. If you have the ability to create a second affiliate I'd be sending the older players to the bottom affiliate while having only top prospects on the top affiliate. That allowed my top prospects to all get top 6/top 4 minutes.
