  1. Congratulations to everyone on an epic Season 10!

I have been doing these awards for Cage for a few seasons now, and I am going to import them into Buzzer, to recognize the outstanding players and performances we have season over season. Input is welcome on Buzzer-specific awards or anything else.

I am making a judgement call on a couple of the awards and attempted to be transparent as to formulas - but feel free to discuss.

  3. Since we already track all player stats and records season by season, it is even clear post-reset that a historical league leaderboard is needed to make league seem more “living”.

Many of us would see huge value and added motivation if the League History page displayed player categories like Most Career League Goals/Assists/Points  in a Top 20 format.

This could be extended to a team format as well, with categories like Team Wins in [League Level], clearer records like Most Wins in a Season, etc.

With elements like Team Stories and the blog becoming more active, these categories will let us keep better track on the league history and create more storylines to follow for our teams.

Anders, I hope this is something you consider adding, as this was mentioned multiple times by a fair number of managers.

  4. END OF SEASON UPDATE:

    1)   Elouan Scott - (94 F):                                                                      Ovechkin + Gretzky trophies (Goals, Points*), Most shots*

Close, but went cold in the last 3 games to finish just off in both key categories.

    2)   Simon-Delorme - (92 D):                                                               Most Points by a Defenceman, Highest +/-

Not even close. Hugely disappointing season on a top offensive team. Questioning his necessity to this squad, and may be moving on next season.

    3)   Henry Lux - (86 F (rookie)):                                                            Most Rookie Points

Likely would have got this without the injury that sidelined him for 8 games. Still, hugely impressive debut campaign with limited ice time and often in a defensive role. 41 points, +16, nearly 60% CF.

    4)  D Sharshin, D Nazarov, F Patrushev, C Stalin, C Putin        100 combined points by Russian players

    DONE. 158 points total.

4a)                                                                                          At least 1 goal scored + assisted by ONLY Russian players

Actually did this, Patrushev from Sharshin and Nazarov. Surprising.

    5)   Sagiv Schuppan - (87 G (rookie)):                                                  40 wins

31 wins, 4 shutouts, and finally settled in and been amazing late in the season with a couple of shutouts. Living up to his potential and 40 wins next season is not unthinkable.

    6)   Roger Muller - (92 C):                                                                     FINALLY HIT GODDAMN 50 POINTS

DONE! Just - exactly 50 points on the season. Frustrating, but there is progress.

Team Objective:                                                                                   Score 300 goals, win 45 games

DONE. 54 wins total including OT wins, good for 1st in the East. 318 GF. Record 1866 CF, and 57.9 CF%. This team absolutely destroyed at even-strength.

    3/4 SEASON UPDATE:

    1)   Elouan Scott - (94 F):                                                                      Ovechkin + Gretzky trophies (Goals, Points*), Most shots*

8 goals off lead - still possible; 3 off points lead - likely given his recent pace; shots - unlikely, hasn't been shooting as much as before, but high shooting %. Switching him from Powerforward to Sniper for the last 20 games, will see what happens.

    2)   Simon-Delorme - (92 D):                                                               Most Points by a Defenceman, Highest +/-

Has been a disappointment this season, only 48 points so far with PP1; Sharshin, the dad of the team at 36 and ZERO PP deployment, has 43.
In terms of +/-, same deal - only +6 whereas Sharshin is +31. Making me question Delorme's status as the team's #1 dman.

    3)   Henry Lux - (86 F (rookie)):                                                            Most Rookie Points

This one is definitely attainable. Lux is 10 off with 18 games to go, but has picked it up significantly lately, and has been promoted to PP1. Beauparlant, the current leader, is 1C on his team, whereas Lux is 3F due to my congestion in the top 6. We'll see.

    4)  D Sharshin, D Nazarov, F Patrushev, C Stalin, C Putin        100 combined points by Russian players

DONE. Sharshin - 43, Nazarov - 35, Patrushev - 32, Kedrov - 14, 124 points total with 18 games to go. Achieved and then some.

4a)                                                                                          At least 1 goal scored + assisted by ONLY Russian players

Still waiting for this one, couple of close ones. No top Russian scorer on the team, so most have been assists.

    5)   Sagiv Schuppan - (87 G (rookie)):                                                  40 wins

Currently at 24 wins, so that may have been a reach. Schuppan has been splitting time with McCreery due to his tendency to slump. However, 30 wins is achievable, which is great for a rookie goaltender.

    6)   Roger Muller - (92 C):                                                                     FINALLY HIT GODDAMN 50 POINTS

After a strong start, this goddamn enigma of a player is only at 39 points. Achievable, but he needs to step it up.

Team Objective:                                                                                   Score 300 goals, win 45 games

Definitely still achievable. 2nd in the league at 244 GF with a HUGE lead in CF over all other teams, but finishing has been lacking this season aside from the top line.
40 wins including OT/SO so far, so 45 is absolutely within striking distance.

  6. 18 year olds as rookies will also be significantly easier to track. When I pulled the stats last few seasons, you just go by the previous year's draft - usually there are only 5-6 rookies who would be in that conversation, so that's quite easy to track that way.

  7. Looks like you and I are going to be competing in some of these, Paul. Looking forward to it. Also aiming quite high, but some of these have precedent. I invested heavily in Schuppan and Lux, who are both rookies, and Schuppan my starting G, so very interested to see what happens.

Plus, with Putin and Stalin motivating my team to perform like only they can, there is no telling how far I can go.

    1)   Elouan Scott - (94 F):                                                                      Ovechkin + Gretzky trophies (Goals, Points*), Most shots*                                   *current holder

    2)   Simon-Delorme - (92 D):                                                               Most Points by a Defenceman, Highest +/-

    3)   Henry Lux - (86 F (rookie)):                                                            Most Rookie Points

    4)  D Sharshin, D Nazarov, F Patrushev, C Stalin, C Putin        100 combined points by Russian players

4a)                                                                                          At least 1 goal scored + assisted by ONLY Russian players

    5)   Sagiv Schuppan - (87 G (rookie)):                                                  40 wins

    6)   Roger Muller - (92 C):                                                                     FINALLY HIT GODDAMN 50 POINTS

Team Objective:                                                                                   Score 300 goals, win 45 games

3a) Henri Pohl - 83 OVR Goalie ... I want this guy to win Vezina.  Given his low endurance and the fact that my team wins might be lower than usual, I don't think that is possible.  Instead, I am going to try and get him 50-55 starts with the goal of GHL's best save percentage.

3b)  I will play the hot hand in goal and Pohl will be given a long leash to keep the starting job.  In the event George Mercredi earns the starting job from Pohl, the same goal applies.

I will be behind this 100%. Pohl came super close last year - what a story that would be. Might even tell my players to shoot wide when we play each other ;) .

  9. The trade platform does not take relegation into account, as simple as that. Especially advanced elements like the player being released due to a demotion clause. It would be complicated and next to impossible to account for all of those factors so the right move, in my opinion. Fair to bring up this question, though, for sure.

If the 12 mil player will be released anyway, remove him from the trade and have the other team put him on waivers. No real other solution I can see with your cap as is.

Thanks for pulling these together.  Is it just me or does someone from the Steelers always take the Roid Rage Trophy?  Their strength and conditioning coaches are doing something right over there!

Slightly bummed that Pohl didn't get Vezina consideration.  Agree with Cutter winning, but Pohl is better than those other two scrubs, Shore and Lang.  It's my own fault for not realizing his greatness until midway through the season.  I need to do a better job of getting him more games.

Agreed on Steelers, must be. Wonder if they play Crash the Net.

As for Pohl, I did seriously consider him, but we had 4 goalies who played over 60 games, I believe, and also had the stats to back their nomination up. The quantity of the games pulled it in their favour.

  11. Congratulations to everyone on another great regular season! Good competition, some changing of the guard on certain teams, and another epic finish. Congratulations to Stealheads on the East title, and Hawks on the West title.

  12. That is actually incredibly unlucky. And strange - I also had two players in the same position (2nd line RW and his replacement) both go down in my last two games. Certainly seeing an increase in playoff injuries, like you said.

  13. Brutal. He was insane - I had to check twice when I saw his numbers.

You still have a strong team, so may be worth it to set everything to 11 and go in guns blazing for the rest of this series and next.

  14. Take a look at Endurance on your team, Paul. I would not be surprised to see a hidden Endurance meter that depletes throughout a season and is impacted by a player's Endurance score. Your team isn't exactly top in Endurance, especially your goaltenders - that may account for the late-season slides.

Good assessment of my weaknesses - and I agree with the loose definition of "weakness", as well as seeing them as challenges to defeat. I just did a massive high-risk, high-reward trade in Buzzer that is going to bring new issues for my team - and I've never felt more alive ;) .

The size issue with my D-men I've solved since the beginning of the season by pairing them with larger counterparts - worked well so far.

Goaltending...is complicated. Lie's stats are 2.86/90.2% - which is decent for a backup. Baudoin, on the other hand, isn't even in Top 20 in SV%, despite having 8 shutouts (Tied for 1st). That's how streaky he, or his cocaine supplier, is. I am nearly sure I've identified the exact issue with him (not Anxiety, surprisingly), but have not yet decided now to fix it.

The Spirit comment is interesting. Never was a fan of the "winning = who has the most heart" argument, but winning teams have had high-Spirit players often (i.e. Kegashka). I have some lower-Spirit players the past two seasons because of trades, and I have been worse defensively, so reasonable guess. But my offence has fired up as a result, and I like that exchange. For now, at least. I will keep an eye on this going forward, though - good observation.

Looks like my late season struggles are real.  Now 1-3 in the last quarter of the season and we've been shut out 3 times.  That's some cold offense right there!  And I only scored 3 against the Dragons because Peek played his backup.

    image.png

Interesting - my initial thought was your roster's Big Games and Ambition traits were lagging, but seems like they're actually quite good. Harmony and Heroic even, for the team.

For me at least the problem is clear - goaltending. This is a lot more mysterious.

  16. I actually enjoyed when random decent FAs appeared in season 1 before people started complaining. Not many, of course, but here and there an 85+ FA is a welcome addition.

Otherwise the player pool becomes a) thinned out and b) distributed among many of these same teams that refuse to trade or are inactive. Look at our FA in Cage, it's nonexistent.

  17. 11 hours ago, rainsilent said:

Alex I don't think your backup is good enough to really be a good backup at the GHL level. He is a really good overall goalie regarding his skill set but 86 reflexes is bad when a lot of the shooters facing you have 95+ shooting.

This is because a number of managers resign pretty much everyone on their roster, usually until they get really old, no matter their actual performance. It is, frankly, a stupid practice. If your team has issues why are you going to keep bringing back the same players and the same team and expect something different? If there is an issue with the performance of a player trade them or let them go when their current contract is up. I don't mean to bad mouth Erzac but his team is a prime example. After his S1 championship his team has been struggling to get the results despite the talent. At what point do you stop banging your head against the wall and accept that you need to change up the roster in some way? You don't have to go chasing 'better' overall players to get better results either.  If I had his team I would have turned over almost the entire lower half of that roster a season ago because many of them are just playing poorly for whatever reason. Too many managers get too overall focused and also get too locked up in the team that they have.

Absolutely agree with both of these points. And frankly, point A is a direct result of point B. I've targeted 4 goalies this season from 4 different teams, with all kinds of combinations of picks, players, PMs - and to no avail. Managers would prefer to sail along season after season with a completely mediocre team, rather than do a trade or two - it's brutal.

And away we goooooooooooooooooo.  Collapse commence.  Like clockwork.

On a more positive note, my draft pick will be a bit better.  I've put about 8 hours of research into it so far, so not totally unhappy about that.  Who I play in the 1st round is a moot point considering I just lost to what would be the 1 vs. 8 matchup.

Come aloooooong and ride on a fantastic...Slide Slide Slippity Slide...ain't no valley low enough for mountain high

I'm joining you because my backup can't avoid getting pulled, so Baudoin ain't getting no rest and a losing streak is unavoidable 😎 .
