  1. Maybe it is the wording, I can buy that. However, if this is meant to be a realistic sim, I don't buy that assessment of the situation. Think about this happening in the NHL. A player and a club agree on a contract up front, and the player signs it. Imagine players going around complaining about their contracts that THEY agreed to and playing like trash as a result. That's not expected behaviour at all - and this is exactly why it's very rare IRL. I could MAYBE buy this with players that have an Arrogant or Agitator trait, or something. But this player has blue traits.

Now, in football, the approach is entirely different. Player performance drives the contract, term doesn't matter. Players and clubs are free to renegotiate at any point, break the existing terms and install new ones on an extension. But in that case, clubs have the option to open negotiations with an unhappy player immediately. What we have right now with these contract demands is somewhere in between, and definitely looks like a bug.

If it's intended, Anders can weigh in - or this can be another AMA question.

  2. Maybe, and maybe not. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to have players ask for new contracts when that entire functionality is not available to managers at that point.

Just because some players still perform in isolated situations doesn't mean that this makes sense from a logical perspective. It's a Chekhov's Gun principle - if something like "player is unhappy" is shown to us as managers, there needs to be a reason and an action to be taken as a result - otherwise we may as well be spectators.

  3. I think you may have misunderstood my post, Paul - the issue isn't in the player being unhappy, it's them asking for a new contract (with all the consequences) multiple seasons before the game will allow you to offer them one.

As an example, Football Manager has this as well, but there you are able to offer the player a renegotiated contract before their current one ends.

  4. This has happened a number of times on my team and others. Players that will have 2+ years left on their contract are "Unhappy/Concerned because they would like to discuss a new contract".

However, the game mechanics do not allow this unless the player is in his last year - and clearly this impacts performance. With my player in question, his performance dropped like a stone last 3 games when this came up. So you are stuck for some time with an underperforming player and no in-game mechanics to address the situation.

Clearly a bug, as I see it.

  5. Hey Anders:

You know there is a core community of long-term managers here who love this sim. What do you think about hosting an AMA on Discord where we can ask you simple (perhaps Yes/No) questions about elements of the sim - with as much elaboration as you are comfortable with?

I mean here things we have always wanted to know but have been unable to determine in-game (example: "Does fatigue strongly impact goalie attributes/performance?"). I have a few of these, they've come up in various discussions, and it would be interesting to hear your perspectives on some of these things. Of course, you do not have to answer any leading questions or ones that reveal game mechanics.

This could also be a good avenue to talk about your roadmap for GPHM in the future, any areas you need help or input on, any resources we can provide, gain feedback on the game, etc.

Thoughts? Other managers - feel free to comment as well if this is something you want to see.

    Alex

  6. Congratulations to the Oshawa Outlaws for taking home this season's GHL title in a hard-fought series against Copper Mountain Bandits.

Great season in the GHL - looking forward to the new arrivals to shake up the established order even more.

  7. I agree, but Anders is one dev. Debugging something like this, making changes in code, testing, is not a simple process in such a complex sim. If there was a larger userbase, perhaps he could afford to hire another dev. Or perhaps a fan of the sim is a dev and can volunteer to work on bug fixes or at least QA some work.

  8. Can a simple toggle be implemented that stops automatic goaltender swaps in games?

There have been numerous situations where I have been unable to give my starter rest for one game because he continually keeps getting pulled in. This has now happened three games in a row most recently, losing me 9 points.

I, and presumably most other managers, would rather take one blowout and get back on track than getting stuck in this cycle or have to obtain a third goaltender for rotation.

Wait...wait.  Wait.  You get 3-4 games before a collapse?  😀

I would never criticize the sim.  Only the player.  I'd much prefer 2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2 GA than 0, 1, 4, 5, 1, 4, 1. This is 100% on Amick and he's aware he's about to go on the trade block.  Big Delta... more like Little Beta. 😂

Amick possessed by the spirit of Braden Holtby 😎.

  10. Game mechanics, imho - I've grown used to it. Identical consistency issues with my starters in both Cage and Buzzer.

Both 94 overall and both can last only about 3-4 games before they have a monumental collapse and a goalie rating in the red. This sim has a bit of black humour in it when it comes to goaltending ;) .

  11. Agreed - keep it coming! Big Ducks are my early-season favourite, I've seen them build their team for the past 3 seasons, and they should shake some things up in the GHL if they get there. Tigers are a team to watch, as well as the Fighting Knights - will be keeping an eye on them all this season.

  12. Good European absinthe (I like German, i.e. Eichelberger) - or Slivovice (Czech plum liquor).

Fair warning - either is not for everyone. You drink a little cup, then another little cup, and very suddenly (and irreversibly) your night becomes a lot more interesting.

#2 Red Tide vs #3 Dragons

Regular season series: 1W and 1OTW Red Tide, 2W Dragons.

The two best teams in the East face off. It was a close series in the regular season and it will likely be close in the playoffs so long as the goaltending for the Dragons holds up. If it doesn't this is very likely to be a short series.

Goaltending is a problem on both sides. Beaudoin has a piss-poor track record past the 1st round and needs to step up.

Whichever goalie blinks first in this series, will lose.
