Ouch, if that were real I think the coach would go into conniptions over that PP.

I'm not too salty just yet, but there's currently an undefeated team in my league. That's cool, right? I mean, it's early in the season. Only one issue...They only have 4 Centers and 2 Forwards starting, the rest of their lineup is Defensemen. He does have a good goalie though so his defense must be really good, but...Here I was worried about not having enough centers, I should have stocked the coffers with D-men!

Hmm...On second thought, maybe I am salty.

MattBerserkers got a reaction from HurjaHerra in Add durability rating.
I find that the bigger the player, the less they seem to get injured, although it might just be m luck as well. My most recent season, I had maybe 5 or 6 injuries in total with most of them lasting a single day or less and two of the injuries actually came on the last day of the season. All but one of my players were above 6ft, and the one guy was 5'11". I don't really look at weight, though, but I imagine that there is a big correlation with height.

I don't necessarily agree with a durability rating as human players would sign a guy with a lowish rating, effectively letting already almost teams become perfect teams in the higher leagues. There would also be no need for backup players because who cares about them if you know your team is unlikely to get injured. In my opinion, that would remove some realisticness from the game and reduce some of the appeal for me. Besides, a player's bio will list past injuries and I find that injury prone players are more likely to have that page filled with injuries. So, I think it's already pretty possible for managers whom do their research to avoid most players that are prone to injuries.

I think I see the problem. Try zooming out your browser, the stats stretch to your screen. If they don't all fit, certain stats will not be shown probably to keep the game looking clean.

I think that players 35+ should honestly regress more. I'm looking in free agency now and see 8 players all 91+ overall that are aged 35 or over.

I'm looking at all players in Game World Lumber and I see about 95% of 90+ rated players being over the age of 30.

Since Fishbowl is only 7 seasons in there are much less 90 rated players, but still a significant amount.

In NHL 17, the first roster featured forty six (46) 90 rated players and this game seems like it has hundreds.

These players eat away at a team's salary and I agree that either the salary cap should be lowered or players should not have such high potential ceilings.

Wouldn't increasing the cap just add to the problem? Maybe the formula for creating new players could change in order to avoid the oversaturation of top-top players generated in the game. I'm thinking of something similar to EHM where regens are just the potentials and mentalities taken from retired players and then re-used for the players created in a new season. Or else a different change could be widening the range of hard-cap potentials and reduces the number of players that can reach above 90 overall. Both options would probably take a lot of work to implement, but they would both increase the need for specialized players rather than just being able to ice 4 lines of perfectly rounded players as it would reduce the supply of almost perfect players.

I probably wouldn't sign up as I like the promotion system and don't have an infinite amount of time. My conference suggestion is that maybe have the two worst teams in each division gets reshuffled in their divisions. I don't think basing the divisions around actual locations would work considering how often teams are moved around.

    Hi

    First, thanks for offering!

I'm still developing the game on my own. However an old friend of mine (@Glawing on this forum) is helping me out with both advice and some future marketing strategies. But as of development the team is still one man strong =)

Actually, it's not the first time I've got this question and I'm overwhelmed with the commitment shown by you who play this game. Thanks a lot! I've always meant to be open for others contributing but I always thought I'd just finish the next feature first. In order to let others contribute I need to get things enough structured to avoid code/commit chaos. It shouldn't be a problem though, I already have all the right tools and knowledge but it will take some time to set things up I guess.

Let me do some more thinking on how to best approach such a scenario. Meanwhile, all of you interested in contributing please send me a resume of your background and coding skills. Either add to this topic or send me an PM. Preferable skills include MVC .NET, CSS, Javascript and experience with document databases (NoSQL).

Centers are obviously scarce. There is abundance of goalies and defenders. However, so many young defenders with great GHL potential have been drafted by AI teams so they are sh!t and useless for GHL teams nowadays.

PS: Fuck you Vanscoy Templars for having those 2 finnish youngsters. I was supposed to create a finnish GHL team. Seriously, fuck you.

Edit: IIRC It's been a while since there was a real prodigy talent on draft -> overal 80+, capable of jumping into GHL right away

Yes, but taking a free player from the losing team just doesn't happen outside of things such as card games. If you badly want a reward, make it something that an actual hockey team would be competing for such as a cash prize or trophy. In my opinion, the format doesn't need any award, it's preseason and in reality, is more so used to get a better sense of a team's players and chemistry.

I have another alternate solution to the same problem. I find that the majority of the managers on holiday have registered, signed onto a team but then decided that this is not a game they like, don't return, and usually don't resign from their team. My idea is to give managers a limbo period where until a manager logs in so many times, they are unable to go on a holiday and instead are simply fired after 12 days instead or else have a shortened holiday. For example, a manager signs in once, but doesn't come back, ai gets to completely control the team after 12 days. However, if the manager signs in say 3 separate in-game days, if he has to take a break, he gets the full holiday like he would today.

MattBerserkers reacted to IneffableLeafs in More Detailed Assistant Reports Regarding Player Progression
Since everyone in clapper is talking about player progression, I'm going to suggest a minor upgrade to the emails you receive when a player improves/declines.

A current example (my team's latest player to improve):

    ASSISTANT IMPRESSED BY REMY MERCURIO
Your assistant is happy to let you know that your defender Remy Mercurio has really improved lately.

This message left me happy, yet unsatisfied.
This email is missing a crucial convenient touch: which attributes improved?

So I went and checked. Defense went up from 79 to 80.
Not only that, but about 20 days before, other stats also improved, but I had no indication of this because my assistant did not give me an email. PuckHandling went up from 68 to 69, and Physical went up from 72 to 73. So what I'm proposing is: Tell us right in the email what improved/declined. Here's an example using the same player on my team, with it being day 31 on the season:    ASSISTANT IMPRESSED BY REMY MERCURIOYour assistant is happy to let you know that your defender Remy Mercurio has really improved lately.
The following attributes have shown growth:
Defense: Improved from 79 to 80 on Day 31
PuckHandling: Improved from 68 to 69 on Day 16
Physical: Improved from 72 to 73 on Day 16

Let me know what you guys think!

    My only arguments would be
a ) prospects from season 4 and season 5 didn't get the full development time in the minors. Give it time and we might find out some players drafted in the bhl or shl in the first couple drafts should have actually been top picks.

b ) Not every draft in the NHL has had amazing top prospects that have an immediate or even big impact on the NHL. Just look at Patrik Stefan, Nail Yakapov, and even the scouting reports for this upcoming draft with Nolan Patrick. If the draft is working fine for other game worlds, I would just classify the season 6 draft to be like these unfortunate top picks.

I have not seen a performance hit between forward positions, at least from what I can tell it's not a noticeable one.

Playing a D-man as a forward may be a different story, although if he is an offensive defenseman, he may be serviceable up front.  Likewise for a forward playing D, if he has a good defensive rating, he my be adequate.

MattBerserkers got a reaction from xZhou in Back-up goalie
This would be a minor change, but would it be possible to let the AI use their backups more often rather than only when the better goalie is injured. In my opinion, it is a little bit unrealistic to play a goalie when he has the exhausted stat. I imagine that the behind the scenes algorithms for the games do take exhaustion into play and that it causes the goalie to have a drop in performance. And so my suggestion would be to have a simple formula added to the AI managers so that they check to see if a goalie has the exhausted stat and if he does, to only play him as the back-up until he is once again fit. The second best goalie would take his spot as the starter until the best one is fit.

I'm not exactly sure how player development works, but I imagine minutes played and performance ratings are also factored into a player's development. Rotating to the back-up and allowing the starter to only play when he is not exhausted to get better performance ratings should also aid AI to develop their own good goalies. This same formula could also be used for players, however, I don't think they suffer as much from the problem.

MattBerserkers got a reaction from Steve in Pre release v1.1.8
That's actually a really good point that I don't think was really brought up when the idea was being tossed around. Maybe the solution could be to include a mandatory minimum amount of games played. However, I think the time limit would have an overall effect of reducing managers signing players only for trade bait as the biggest abusers currently pretty much just instantly sign and trade free agents for  picks/prospects/good players. Also with the time limit, people would use more thought in signing free agents as it's easier to run into the problem of needing a player, but not being able to acquire him because of cap space essentially locked for the time limit. All in all, I think it would be better to observe how this new feature plays out and to see if it does end up leading to any abuse and whether it is better or worse than the old abuse.

This is probably only more of an annoyance on slow worlds, but would it be possible to lower the number of days before a manager could be fired? Currently in my division, as is, there are 14 teams with human managers. Of those, 7 are on holiday, most of them since pretty much the day they joined their respective teams. Another manager has played under 12 days, so he might also be an inactive member, I am unsure and another manager was fired within this past week due to inactivity.

I bring this up because part of the appeal of this game to me is discussing possible trades with fellow human managers, and if the majority of the teams are not active, it really limits this aspect of the game. Sure, you might say there is a division below and above me that I can construct trades with, however, I argue they probably often suffer from the same problem and most of the realistic trades are for players within the same division as they have similar overalls. I am not including trades with the npc in my argument because there isn't ever a discussion in those trades and it is too easy to accidently create unrealistic or lopsided trades.

I understand part of the appeal of a slow world is being able to rejoin the same team after a while of inactivity due to real world time constraints, but I find the slow worlds give just a little bit too much time. At the top of my head, I think a person gets 12 days of inactivity before they are given the on-holiday status and then another 36 before being fired from their team. That's 48 real world days of inactivity in total! If you fancy multiples of 12, my suggestion would be to reduce the total inactivity period before being fired to 36 days which I doubt would remove any appeal from choosing a slow world.

No. I never claimed that you were stupid. I said that your claimed reasoning for it being ok for you to cheat the system is based around a perceived in game issue that doesn't exist. That is a poorly thought out and exceptionally weak argument.

Frankly what anyone in Biscuits GHL needs to have more than a slight chance to win the cup is have a certain team let go all of the players they got in the same way you built your team. By exploiting the computer teams through trades. They have dominated for the past 3.5 seasons because of it and will for about 4 more unless they decide to change that by their own decision. You would have no impact on me winning or not.

Oh and there is no "getting even" with someone who a fair number of people go to for advice and help because of how good they actually are at managing their team when the only way you can win is by relying on exploiting the game. You would be better off leaving quietly now rather than making yourself look even more like a stuck up child before you go.
