  1. I'd say that the clapper draft looks to be pretty sick too! I saw an 85 OVR Goalie as soon as the initial prospect rankings came outt...and he has a whole season to develo still. Getting a near 90 goalie who's 18 in the draft is a touch crazy...just hope I suck enough to get that pick!

  2. @ Glawing: is your tip on tactics in regard to team focus or their actual in game tactics (puck possession etc)? I've got some mixed thoughts from people on whether or not it's beneficial to change the actual Regular Tactics as opposed to the team Focus.

  3. Anders, I have a splendid Idea for you! How about we make a new affiliate league for all of us - the Geriatric League! Here we can send our over-the-hill players off to retire in the comfort of lazy boy benches and padded side walls. This allows all of us to bury our contract woes and feel good about ourselves knowing that we just made their competitive edge equal to everyone around them - crusty! We can even have team names like the Geriatric Generals, the Dinamo Dentures, and the ever so competitive Henderson Hemroids! I'd send all of my guys there in a heartbeat!

All team Name and logo ideas should be shared for this upcoming new league!

  4. So with Team Focus alterations it's more or less a game plan for the upcoming opponent rather than what you referred to as identity? If this is the case how do you usually adjust your focus? Let's say a team usually plays offensive, do you attempt to counter their offense with a more defensive strategy or try to outdo them with a Very Offensive focus? I think rainsilent mentioned it being similar to Rock Paper Scissors... is this just because you never know what the other manager will do with their focus?

  5. To add to that idea - if that were to happen ( letting trades not occur with top 6 teams in the league) I think it would make sense to put a trade deadline of sorts on that because trading with a top 6 team in the first 20 games or so is completely different than the latter 40. I've traded early in the season with a team before for one of their picks and ended up getting a team that relegated pick :( That's a fair risk to play.

  6. I also notice a bunch of trades where there are a bunch of players going one way and only a pick or single player in return. Perhaps the AI could reject sending/receiving assets that send/receive a difference in assets of more than 3 (awkward phrasing.)

EA: 1 asset leaving and 3 assets coming back = acceptable

2 assets leaving and 4 coming back = acceptable

1 asset leaving and 4 assets coming back = unacceptable

2 assets leaving and 5 assets coming back = unacceptable.

This would allow for some weirder trades involving human managers to still go through, but really limit the exploitation that can be done to AI.

I really do think this is a decent solution but where it gets a bit tricky is trying to have the AI understand asset values. For instance, in Clapper, some of the upcoming prospects are nearly an 85 OVR @ 18. The system can't see that a team will be promoting from the SHL and thus trading a future stud for two guys that will take another 5 years of development to reach that 85 OVR. If it was for a true SHL pick, that would be a different story. But overall I think most critiqued trades do include multiple assetsfor one player and this would help resolve a good % of those moves. Great idea!

  7. OMFG. 2-0-0-8 in the last 10!!

Fortunately the computer won so much at the beginning of the season, 'cause this is a complete breakdown

That's my entire season in Clapper...for the second straight season!

  8. I think there is some validity to bringing this up but I know good and well (being the culprit and also advocating for change) that this subject is so controversial it's best left alone in the public sense. I've found more success going to managers personally and asking questions rather than trying to air out laundry on the forum.

Besides, I'm convinced that everyone gets to a point where they feel pushed into a corner and when faced with that feeling, they wouldn't at least attempt to try a trade that doesn't make 100% sense on both sides. Right now I'm sitting in 13th in the GHL (Clapper) - shoot, I'm feeling that. Our team has been clawing to just try and stay out of auto-relegation since we got promoted. Not going to lie, a trade in the GHL just occurred with a CPU team that had me scratching my head - especially since I know the individual tries to play up to some high standards. On the surface it may look ok but when other factors are considered it's a lopsided deal In favor of the Manager by a long shot. It's difficult because they have been such a good team for so long and I wonder how the heck I'm supposed to compete when stuff like that happens! At the end of the day nothing will change so let's just enjoy it and brush off the nonsense. I've accepted this will happen and most of you should come to that reality also.

I'm still ok with computer trading because for one, I can hardly ever (with the exception a a few solid mangers) make a worthwhile trade with human managers...I guess that would force their hands though so I'm still curious. Also, it makes sense fornteams in the GHL because those are almost all 100% user owned but in leagues where that's not the case it would severely hinder user owned teams.

Everyone just try and enjoy this - like it was said earlier, it is just a game ;)

  9. I gotta say, I'm amazed at what some of these players can do even without the necessary "skill" that the game attributes to them. I have a rookie I called up who is a 73 OVR in the GHL that holds his own. Statistically he's not amazing but his average performance is about a 72 and he's got a decent amount of points for his skill. I'm firmly convinced that the players natural ability can often trump raw skill points.
