An Article out of the Slaughterville Sea-Affair Newspaper:

After the Slaughterville Savage Storm's GM went missing for two weeks, the Coast Guard finally found him washed up on a beach in Miami. His comment stated that he got stranded off of the Island of Key West after taking a canoe to explore the untamed sea while away on a business convention there on the Island before the season began. "Boy it's good to be back! I fought off sharks and a giant octopus names Yzerman but I survived by jamming my paddle in his eye and then I ate it! I hit some wicked storm that swirled me around out there for over a week and then I blacked out. I don't remember the rest." O'Connor was treated at Miami's top medical center and they concluded that he had severe heat stroke at some point and was delusional most his time at sea. They really have no idea how he survived in a canoe or what he actually ate. He was found clothed only in a loin cloth made of sea weed and shark skin. "I was born to be at sea - let's get this team back on track for the rest of the season so I can head back out there and be victorious again!" Medical advisors recommended he stay away from any form of open water for at least 8 years. He was found the next day in the same canoe paddling in circles around his pool yelling, "I'll find you Yzerman and I will take your other eye for betraying me you giant, stinky octopus!" It's good to have you back - we hope!

That's what I thought earlier. Your "RFA period" is currently during the playoffs; nobody can send your guys offers but you are able to negotiate with any of your expiring players. The only exceptions are players that got way too good for your league and want to move up. Of course it sucks to lose that 80 overall 21-year-old BHLer, but realistically, he has no more business being in that league, he's far too good.

To that first bit, it sucks, but it's kind of understandable if he was an ambitious guy. The players in this game aren't completely their overalls, they also have a few personality traits that influence what they do.

As for that other line, I explained why the restrictions are more severe in the NHL. (I will be assuming that we are talking about that 80 overall BHLer.) You either obey them, or you don't get to play in the best league you can. Here players can say no thanks, I'm going where I want. If the higher leagues also "implemented" the rule, players would be forced to agree. But why would they say that they don't want that young, promising star to show to their fans? Sure you can step back and say "everything's just code and data", but that removes some of the roleplaying factor of the game that attracts many people such as myself.

Steve reacted to bouncer in Player injuries in affiliation - notification
Hi, it would be nice to have notification about injuries/recoveries in affiliation teams. I just recall player form there just to realize he is injured, which I did not know about (also not for how many matches until I counted it). Since there is no IR, I'm sending injured 2W players from my A team to affiliate and I think I will not get message that they are healthy again. That would be great thing to add.

I definitely agree on the pre-season games being restricted to Fair or Avoid physical.  Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Also, for what it's worth, I have played on HARD and DIRTY 4 times combined in the past 2 seasons (the Dirty was against a team that spanked me the game before so I was out for revenge ).  In those 4 games combined, 3 of my players got injured and only 1 of my opponents got injured.  Not sure if others have experienced the same, but it feels risky for your own team to play that way.

On the topic of injuries though - my best player was injured for 9 games right before the playoffs last year.  The other team was not playing hard or dirty.  I feel like it's just part of the game.  Yeah, it sucks, but it happens.  If anything, it challenges you to get creative with your lineup - and it makes you think about resting star players during pre-season games or near the end of the season depending upon where you are in the standings.

If you want to really get frustrated with injuries, try playing fantasy (American) football.

    That's my 3 cents...

    Hello all,

I accidentally resigned my top prospect Samuel Dobrik who I drafted 4th overall in the last draft.

I would really much appreciate if you didn't try to sign him, as him being in the free agency is the result of be being clumsy and trying to do things too fast while on mobile. I tried to recall him to my team to change the affiliate team he's in, but instead chose to resign him, thus making him available for all to sign.

So I kindly ask that you do not offer him a contract, as a mark of good sportsmanship, and if you have offered him a contract that you would take your offer back.

    Thanks a lot,
    Jussi

As pointed out in this topic, a roster limit would either be too limiting, or high enough to be irrelevant. For example, I've 16 assigned players, 14 of which I signed from my prospect pool. That would be a roster of 34 just to have my own prospects in my own affiliates. Not to mention I like to keep 1-2 capable reserve players for each position in case of injuries. That's easily a roster of 40 without any hoarding.

However, as those prospects age, not all of them will make the main lineup. And it shouldn't be possible for me to lock them up into affiliates forever. Waivers would be the answer to that.

All in all, I'd support an age-based waiver system, along with a high roster limit, say around 50, just for the sake of having one.

Steve reacted to Paul T in Minor Suggestions: Trait Filters & Email Notifications
    Hey all,

If I didn't already make it clear in my recent introductory post, I love just about everything about this game - so if nothing changes, it's all good with me.  After managing for a full season, the two minor suggestions I will make are:

    1. The ability to add player traits to the filter when searching for players.  Example: Say you're looking for a first line center with at least 85 Passing and 90 Spirit - and you also want to make sure he's not a Cocky A-Hole .  It would be cool to be able to check off the traits you are looking for (and want to avoid) in your searches.

    2. Email notifications upon receiving team messages.  This is just a personal preference.  I log on just about every day to check things out anyways, but as someone who manages both work and personal emails from my phone, it would be nice to have an email notification option when new messages are received (game results, player improvements, trades, etc.).

Also, just wanted to add my 2 cents on the help files.  I think the amount of guidance that has been provided is perfect.  It gives you just enough knowledge to get started - and the answers to many other questions can be found if you look hard enough.  I think knowing exactly what needs to be done to make a successful team, in some ways, takes the fun out of it.  So far I've enjoyed getting to know my team, trying different things, seeing what works and what doesn't (trying players in different roles, on different lines, you get the point).  I want my team to be successful, but the fun part is the journey to get there, not the immediate success.  Just figured I'd share that.

    Thanks for reading.

    - Paul

I think I will just lie low until game 35 again.  It almost worked last season as I was the only team to beat the Champs in a Playoff game!  Another goal in Game 3 and who knows what could have happened!?!?

Well that's a bit of a drop for us this season. Hoping to challenge for a playoff spot, but I'll consider this a good season if I avoid the relegation zone.

Best of luck to everyone this season.

HurjaHerra - that actually might happen At least I consider first 7 teams as playoff teams, maybe not in the same order, but close to it. Then Violet Volcano should be in, although Senet's back with the ex-Moapa Valley team, which should be really dangerous combination.

I checked the 16 goalies in GHL in action in game 1 of the season and... we are getting pretty old. Like King Henrik would be here just fine...

The average age is 30.5, but median is 31.5 and 9 goalies are 30 or older. 34 is the most frequent age. One goalie was 18 and one was 21 (they were the reason for not so high average). 38 is the oldest goalie in action (I won!).

Waivers. Anybody sent to an affiliate above say 25 goes to waivers. Anybody of the same league or below interested sends in a claim. The team highest in the claim order gets the player. Very simple and straightforward.

Therein lies the problem. They have to make an offer. Knowing your trading tendencies your going to want something more than a throwaway contract. Not saying that you wouldn't make a deal like that happen more that others may be doing it to try to force trades for players. You know. Gather enough players to try to force a trade or get all the quality players and then try to work deals with lower teams. It is only a bad thing to have a high league team signing all of the quality players for lower leagues no matter if they try to trade them down or not. There is no reason that a SHL team should not be able to send a waiver claim for Baroni on my team, Sharp on yours or one of the many on Pegasus who seemingly can't offer enough contracts to FAs. Nobody should be able to collect players above a certain age (again say 24 or 25) and then without care send them to their affiliates without them going through waivers.

They are a vast improvement in the sense of a team can develop its own prospects. However much beyond that they kind of are overkill. A team shouldn't need 6+ reserve players like a few teams are going after. It is also pointless to have a good reserve team. That said some people find it important to have a good reserve team. It isn't a massive problem that needs fixing. It is just a nuisance for a team to hoard a lot of players that they essentially end up not using. The proposed waiver system is a way to get around the hoarding.

I agree, and definitely have signed a few prospects from free agency just to send them to my affiliate.  Granted they were more in the 78-82 overall range, but they still would have been a good addition to an SHL team.  As is, the affiliate system definitely favors the GHL.  I absolutely love how I can call someone up if there's an injury on my team, so I feel like affiliates are a good addition to the game overall, but the system will need some adjustments.  I can see them becoming abused very quickly.

First friendly of silly season and my best D is injured for 18 days... Nice start of the season. After reading the game analysis it makes sense:

"They played a balanced game but tried to get under our skin with foul play and played a passing type of play but secures defence."

How about dirty and foul play is unrestricted in silly season? That would be a good idea.
