Paul T got a reaction from AlexanderRasputin in Red Tide/Arcola Trade
That trade was outrageously bad on a few levels.  At first I thought the CPU trade logic went corrupt, then realized it was between two managers and one of the managers quit shortly after, so it's easy to see how some might think there was something shady going on.

That being said, all managers try to better their teams via trade.  Most trades can be considered lopsided depending upon your point of view - salary dumps, etc.  I'm not sure there are too many managers here who would have rejected that trade if proposed to them, so I understand that side of it.  I appreciate & accept the explanation and don't see any cheating here.  Ready to move on.

I think reversing it was the right thing to do.  Also, as Alexander stated above, despite the drama it causes, managers pushing back against unfair trades can be a good thing because it protects the integrity of the game.  We're all competitive, that's why we are all here trying to win.  But the last thing I'd want to see happen is for managers to get frustrated and leave because of unfair trades.  That and whoever takes over that CPU team would be at a horrible disadvantage.  Personally, I think the ill will should be directed at the manager who offered the trade then quit.

This is a bug. We will investigate this matter. For now I will move the draft pick to your team again. Can't be sure it will stay there. =)

There was a vote and the result was to keep things the same speed... but the vote didn't take into account game world speed.  I suggested we vote by world, assuming it would be beneficial for a slow world to speed things up, but if not, that's cool too.

Boston... hehe.  I never really got into the classic rock stuff.  I dig it from time to time, but Metal is more my speed (especially 80s Metal and Metalcore... and some of the melodic death stuff).

This was voted on a bit ago.  I had a recent post in the focus group that voting should take place per game world.  I can't really speak for fast or normal since I will be joining the slow world, but I'll give my two cents anyways.

Fast - No need to speed up the playoffs for obvious reasons.

Normal - I wouldn't want playoffs sped up here either.  A game every 12 hours is good.  A game every 6 hours and you are possibly sleeping through 2 games.

Slow - Yes, I 100% believe the world should be sped up during the playoffs for quite a few reasons.  If you are not involved in the playoffs, or even if you get eliminated quickly, you are waiting forever for any action.  If you are in the playoffs, I don't see why you wouldn't want quicker results.  A game every 12 hours seems reasonable.  I mean, even if you are a lazy A-Hole that sleeps 10+ hours a night, you still won't miss an opportunity to change things up between games, if needed.  I also have 3 kids and work 60 hours a week on average, so I'll never buy the "too busy" claim.  Keep it moving!

Yes, this needs to happen!  Although with the new auto-promotion system after the reset, I'd be surprised if you didn't either win SHL or promote via SHL playoffs in S1.

...and if this upcoming season last's long enough, there's a solid chance you are in GHL by the end and I am back in SHL.  Haha.

Yeah, if anything, I find the FAs are still too eager to sign for too little money.  Ho hum, another season with us all with 90+ players and the two new teams barely able to scratch together a B squad, no offense!  The economic engine is broken in this and needs to be fixed before the new launch, whenever that is.

I'm always one FA from the title!

I do think the reputation thing is now too out of control.  Rebels just signed Sontag for $3M and I offered $3.7M and was denied.  I'm fine with that, actually, as they are defending champs and all, but I got some message that I was over the cap, which wasn't the case because my other FA hadn't yet declined my other offer.  The system should default to whichever FA takes your offer first.  Now you can't make concurrent offers to FAs.  I agree you shouldn't sign more than you can afford, but if there are two FAs that are more or less equal in my book, I have to fight for one and if I lose, hope the other one wasn't taken yet?  That's not true to life.  Maybe I'm the only one that feels that way.

Regardless, until the salary cap and salary requests are realistic, FA combined with the elevated OVRs make the game kind of broken.

I am slightly bummed out that I won't get to compete against the current GHL managers in Biscuit.  I would have all but guaranteed that in 4 seasons I would have been GHL champ.

Paul T reacted to Arukas in Undrafted, yet Unshakeable: The True Underdog Story of Yan Yurevich
"Probably Dimitir Evtuh. The way (he) could move around and put the puck in the net was amazing. I want to score goals like him."

A young Yan Yurevich, speaking through a translator, gave that response when asked who he idolized while growing up in Belarus. The budding forward missed his first year of action with the CAHL North Sydney Silent Pirates, but he continued to stay optimistic and looked forward to make an impact in his second year. He was happy to have another opportunity to play after going undrafted. The few scouts that looked his way noted his impressive physique, but felt he didn't have great hands and that he was too slow to make it in the pros, even at the LIHL level. They were about to be proven wrong.

    LIHL

Yurevich finished his second year with North Sydney, tallying 6 goals and 13 assists in 50 games, but only managing to have 11 minutes of ice time per game. When asked if he was disappointed with that fact, Yan replied, "A little, yeah. I want the chance to prove myself like everyone else does. The team always comes first, but I feel like I can do more to help."

With Yan's contract expiring, it was unknown whether or not he'd get another opportunity. Until...

The Michigan Center Fury had just come off of a 14th place finish in the LIHL, after relocating from the San Antonito Black Bears. "We were just looking for some new blood, something to put a spark back in this team", the GM said, addressing the need to add younger talent to an aging roster. There must have been something about Yurevich that caught the attention of the newly-appointed GM, because the first off-season move he attempted was to sign the young power forward. Without hesitation, Yurevich accepted. "I can't believe it, I've loved hockey my whole life, and now I can continue to live my dream". The contract was a two-year deal, so while there was some job security, the message was clear: this is your shot, now go out there and prove it.

    Years One and Two

Yurevich's first year in the LIHL proved to be not what he'd hoped, scoring 5 goals and 19 points in an injury-shortened 46 games, all while only logging 9 minutes per game. "We wanted to get his feet wet, I know he was unhappy with the approach, but we had to ease him in while working out some other aspects of this game", the Fury GM said of his rookie's performance. While the Fury improved and made it into the playoffs, they failed to promote. Yurevich was a non-factor, registering zero points in three games and only averaging 6 minutes of ice time.
Yurevich, visibly upset with the way the season went and the lack of ice time, responded by saying, "If they're only going to play me on the 3rd and 4th lines, I guess I'll just have to be the best *expletive* 3rd liner there is".

The Fury had another productive off-season, acquiring Gabryel Nolasco from the Minnedosa Musketeers for a 1st round pick, adding a much-needed 1st-line center. With Yurevich's commitment to a more defensive style, he was given a chance on the 3rd line with roommate James Dunkelberger. "Dunks is a good guy. He's helping me with English but his Belarusian needs a lot of work", Yurevich chuckled. "Yan talks a lot of crap", Dunkelberger joked after a game. "We're always competing because we're on separate penalty kill lines. He always tells me 'I got this' before we go out there on the PK, and most of the times he's right".

    He was right.

The Fury finished the season with a record 158 points, clinching an IHL berth. Yurevich played in all 60 games, scoring 15 goals and 38 points, with a +34 on the season. The question was: Had Yurevich done enough to earn a new contract?

Paul T got a reaction from Mee6 in Training specifics
I think the lack of response here is that no one really knows for sure (except for Anders).  When in doubt, test it out!

That being said, I ran various tests on training a few seasons ago.  I tracked development for 20 different players by measuring the progress bars every 10 days for an entire season.  Every 10 days, I would change something whether it be the Intensity (Hard, Normal, Easy), the Player Role (Sniper, Two Way, etc.), and the Focus (Off, Def, Gen).  I tried to test every combination of Intensity/Role/Focus.  My results were inconclusive in that it didn't really notice much difference in progress when I changed the variables.  Other than the fact that the bars went up faster when the Intensity was Harder (this one is obvious).  But the Player Roles and Focus didn't seem to have a huge impact to draw a solid conclusion.  Perhaps the 10 day periods were too short to notice anything drastic and that results are only noticeable longer term.  Also perhaps there is a time delay on the change, like when you change your tactics, you won't start to see a noticeable difference until 5-10 days after making the chance.  So that could have confused my results.

The only things I know for sure are:
    1) The Harder the Intensity, the more a player will progress (obviously).
    2) Players typically progress faster when they are younger (typically).
    3) Team tactics seem to play a role (i.e. Puck Possession will develop Pass/Puck faster).
    4) Offensive attributes progress earlier in career, defensive later (Anders mentioned this somewhere).

As for training Skating specifically.  I would assume set the training to Hard & General.  And it will also help if your Off Tactic is Dump&Chase or Transition - and your Def Tactic is Forecheck or Spread (but I wouldn't change a tactic for training purposes).

Jeremy is my favorite player and I cannot start active players with anyone else. He is true heart and soul of my team as he is the only one from the very beginning. 16  seasons with Protons! I got him as very talented, 21yo right-handed defender, 78 OVR in SHL (that was very high number in SHL S1!). Only later I realized that right-handed D is very valuable and I was always happy to have him. He is now 95 OVR (37 yo) and remain one of the best right-handed D in the league. I would compare him to Drew Doughty. Although he has high scoring, he is not the offensive gun as EK or Burns, but he is dominant D on both sides of the ice. He has high passing, high scoring, high defence, physical, and endurance. So he is also eating a lot of TOI... in the first 4 seasons he played 25:00 - 25:30 TOI average and pretty high performance.
Regular season stats are 816 games played, 404 points (98+306), +162, 22:30 avg. TOI and 77 average performance. He has 105 playoff games (exactly the same as Protons played) with 57 points (17+40), +29.
There was drop in his performance in S5/S6, because this friendly guy was always willing to sign a long term contract for peanuts (9 year, $1 550 000 per season in S3), but he was training so fast, even he was feeling he is massively underpaid back then. We fixed that and still got cheap top right handed D.
He obviously has 5 GHL cups, but also was with us when we directly promoted from SHL in S1.

    Stefan Söderström http://www.gameplanhockey.com/player?gpid=3622

Stefan was not in the productivity table, but he was most dependable defensive shield in GHL for his entire career. He retired this season at age of 37 with still great 93 OVR (his best was 94) and his key skills were defence, physical and spirit, all maxed to 99. Together with big body, ~200 cm and ~100 kg (sorry to US managers, I never really learned U.S. customary system - and I think this is funny - https://twitter.com/GiveMeInternet/status/1029618705318273025?s=15.), he was predestined to be PK specialists.
He has also 6 cups (5 with Protons and one with Mount Healthy Young Guns). He was briefly captain, but 'A' for most fo his career and as far as I remember almost always healthy. Stefan was best in GHL in +/- in S11 and +/- is probably his most impressive stat - he has in regular season +316 in his 834 GHL games. That is more than his points, 276 (42+234). One can also notice 1401 hits and 617 PIM. Average performance was 77 and average TOI 19:30.
And even more impressive is his PO card - huge number of games, 115 games with 35 points (2+33), +32, 92 PIM and 190 hits.

What a career for this determined role model.

Today, I want to start with the already retired players. And later I will continue with the active ones.

    Artem Bublik http://www.gameplanhockey.com/goalie?gpid=1798

There is already a special thread on Bublik, but I cannot start with anyone else. He was the cornerstone of all of our 5 cups. He has 6 cups in total (one  cup for the French Gulch Black Knights), which makes him second most successful goalie in Biscuit and most successful starter. He retired at age of 40 with still amazing 95 OVR (he lost some endurance, but kept other skill still very high). Despite being cocky and egocentric, he was loved. He would have stayed with Protons longer, but he was a money guy - he was paid $6 390 000 per season in S5 and he asked for similar amount in his late 30's (ended up with $5 575 000 per season with the Thetford Mines Pegasus in S11).
But his stats are amazing - he played in 570 regular season games (553 started - counting only GHL) with OVR performance of 75. He had 73 SO, 92.3 SV% and 2.23 GAA. In playoff he was stable as well - 75 games played (73 started) with OVR performance of 75, 8 SO, 92.2 SV% and 2.29 GAA.
He had most shutouts 6 times in GHL, 6 times best GAA, 5 times best SV% and was named 1st star of the week 11 times (and made top3 of the week 18 times!).

    3)  Pittsboro Plastic Attack.  The SHL newcomers certainly held their own last season and avoided relegation by a large margin.  Known league-wide for patience with player development and building an empire via draft picks.  Coach Naekfor is meticulous when it comes to building a team.  Everyone who has ever tried to pry a draft pick off his hands has received the same response:

Last seasons result:  0-1-1-1, 8 GF, 10 GA

    4)  Deferiet Leopards.  A disappointing season for the Leopards that was foreshadowed by a disappointing preseason tournament.  The Leopards missed the playoffs by a single point for the first time since taking over the franchise.  While most teams dwell on the golf course, that just isn't their style.  Instead, these hard rockers threw a killer party complete with fine women, booze and blow and partied their faces off.

The full party was recorded here in this completely NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR CHILDREN video:
