  1. I'm kind of full on defenders and centers, but all of my forwards + unsigned prospects are available. I'd be willing to move them for any picks or else star defensemen.

    - Drinkwater Defenders, LIHL

  2. Right now, this conversation is just going around in circles and your suggestion with it.

If you're suggesting an exclusive negotiating period until the player is 23, it's super abusable by the top teams.

If you just want a period where you have exclusive negotiating rights until free agency, that pretty much already exists during the same period as playoffs.

I think a better suggestion that would accomplish what you want would be to bring back the loyalty trait and have it function differently than last time. I think (it was removed before I joined) last time it worked is that the more loyal a player was, the lower his requested salary would be during a contract extension. This time it could work so that if a player is reasonably close to the wanted average overall of a league (let's say 68/69 for the LIHL if its average is 65), than a loyal player would be willing to resign with his team to a short term deal at the same price that he would want through free agency. Ī don't see this being abusable by top teams as it wouldn't give them anythīng, but would give more teams a chance to earn promotion with their home-grown players.

If you're wondering what happened to the old loyalty trait, it got turned into several of the ones we have now. Same with a greed trait.

  3. Honestly, I think it's just luck. I've had seasons with only 1 or 2 injuries, seasons where there's always been an injury and I've had a season where 10ish injuries (most were multiple days) all happened in less than a week.

  4. I don't think you are understanding my proposal, because it wouldn't be abusable at all.

If a team is unable to sign their RFAs due to cap situation by the start of silly season (day 1) they become UFAs, so they can go anywhere they want, they could wait 10 days, but the player would probably be gone by then...

a RFA would remain an RFA until 23 (or whatever age is decided upon) and a contract can't be signed past his 23 birthday, unless, you could add a side coding that if he would normally want to come back to your team, you can sign longer, but a player that would usually not sign with your team, but is an RFA, would only accept contracts that would take him to his 23rd birthday season.

IF a team mismanaged their cap, and were unable to afford the RFA while he asks the same thing he would ask if he was a UFA, then at Day 1 of the new season, he is a UFA, even if he is only 20, so a top league team wouldn't be able to keep the rights of their RFAs, wouldn't be able to wait until his demands went down, if they can't re-sign him, he is a UFA.

That's what I thought earlier. Your "RFA period" is currently during the playoffs; nobody can send your guys offers but you are able to negotiate with any of your expiring players. The only exceptions are players that got way too good for your league and want to move up. Of course it sucks to lose that 80 overall 21-year-old BHLer, but realistically, he has no more business being in that league, he's far too good.

by the way, the player did sign for one league higher, but for the same money i would of gave him, or maybe even less...

That's why my RFA restrictions are a lot less severe than the NHL, plus, the players are just numbers and code and data, they have no rights

To that first bit, it sucks, but it's kind of understandable if he was an ambitious guy. The players in this game aren't completely their overalls, they also have a few personality traits that influence what they do.

As for that other line, I explained why the restrictions are more severe in the NHL. (I will be assuming that we are talking about that 80 overall BHLer.) You either obey them, or you don't get to play in the best league you can. Here players can say no thanks, I'm going where I want. If the higher leagues also "implemented" the rule, players would be forced to agree. But why would they say that they don't want that young, promising star to show to their fans? Sure you can step back and say "everything's just code and data", but that removes some of the roleplaying factor of the game that attracts many people such as myself.

  5. Look at it from the players perspective; a BHL team can afford to pay say 100k, an SHL team is willing to pay 500k for the young gun to play on their main squad. Why would he want to play for the team that pays him less? He was drafted where he proved himself in juniors and now he's proven that he can play at a higher level. Players in the NHL accept the RFA period in the NHL because it's the top league and where else can they play that can pay them as much? The KHL? Most North Americans would be unwilling to go as they've got no family there and the league just doesn't have as much prestige, they're pretty much shit out of luck. Russian players do sometimes opt to play to the KHL instead and the media always seems to remind their viewers of it. It drops their draft ranking as teams don't want to risk a top pick being a no show. You can sort of look at it similarly in this game. Do I draft the guy that's going to be looking to ditch my team as soon as he can for clearer waters, or do I pick the guy that I know will stay on my team for another 8 years, but won't be as good in those first 3 years.

In my opinion, RFA's wouldn't make much sense for the players in this game and would be abusable by the top teams because where else can their top RFA's go asides from back to their team? Top teams are easily able to wait the 10 days it takes for a player to start really lowering his asking price, so even if it's supposed to match his free agency rate, the price will still fall.

  6. First of all, this should be in suggestions.

Second, I don't think it would work, nor do I think it is fair. If you look at what is drafted in the first round, they are generally guys that could fit into their respective leagues. Eg: First few picks can almost all play in the GHL. Why should the SHL get those players? Why should the players accept that knowing that they should be playing in a better league. If your reason is that the leagues should be equal than  I completely disagree. The promotion/relegation system works so that there is a progression of worse to best teams.  An average GHL team should almost always beat an average SHL team and the same should go for the lower leagues. And why should a player be forced to go to a team that likely isn't going to be able to sign him after his entry level expires. To me, it doesn't make much sense.

Also, the top GHL team does not get the 1st overall pick, I think you are misunderstanding the current system. If it happens to have it, then the team traded for the pick that became number 1 earlier in the season. If you go to the Youth Draft section, you can see who originally owned the pick. In case you didn't know the league draft order, its: GHL - GHL - SHL - GHL - SHL - BHL - SHL - BHL - IHL - BHL - IHL - LIHL - IHL - LIHL - LIHL. In general, a leagues first round is above the 3rd round of the league above them, that gives team a chance to draft better players that helps teams earn promotion or else have prospects that can still compete if they do happen to earn promotion. As for the order of the draft, the teams that earned promotion or survived relegation playoffs will get a lottery for the top 4 picks. After that, the order is basically from the worst team and ending with the best teams and then finally the teams that were just relegated as they likely still have a bunch of really good players.

  7. Notes:

    * This is slightly different from other formulas used. I thought that the performance of goalies varies so much that I thought that their values weight shouldn't be changed. Here's what I used: Overall = (OFF + DEF * 2 + SG) / 25

    * Like others, I went for 3 significant digits - however, I went to 4 whenever I needed to break a tie.

    * This is based off day 3 teams after free agents were signed.

I'll probably edit this in a little bit to show how much salary each team is spending on their top roster.

  8. I actually think I noticed a difference when I had my players training on hard vs when it was on easy. They performed a little better when they didn't have the con "player looked tired during the game" due to having hard training. Could just be inside my head though.

I'll have to remember that come playoffs. :D

  9. I'm curious how this will work out at the end of the season and hope someone from Mitts or Lumber can tell us.  All these contracts have to be paid (in full) as of the first day of the season, correct?  So even if you pay six players peanuts at 10%, on Day 1 you have to be able to pay all of them full price before you can even send them down.  I think teams that are pushing hard against the cap in current season and have prospects beyond 1 season will see the math come back to bite them when they need to resign current players for next season, the full demoted player's salary is eating into the available cap (at least that is how I understand it).  If I am correct, then these "hoarders" will be stuck with a lot of prospects, but can't resign any players asking for a raise.  Not saying that is a bad strategy, only time will tell, but I think it is a built in penalty for the demoted player contracts.  Can anyone from one of the Fast leagues comment on this?

I don't think that you have to be under cap to send them down.

  10. So far I haven't seen any drawbacks from keeping players on hard training. I've tried all the intensity settings. All seem to have no effect on gameplay

Check out mitts, it's supposed to be in testing for the next update.

  11. It's an alright idea, but I like the way that the current system is set up so that affiliates will mirror a manager's tactics as well as allow the manager to develop players with their own training. Having an affiliate manager (one that you wouldn't even get to choose yourself) could wreck that as he might have a different idea on how to develop your progress.

If you just want to develop prospects, try the LIHL. I've found a few 21 year olds with low overalls that could still be developed, they just needed some love. I suggest the LIHL in particular as I don't see many guys signing the 50 overall players, so you will always have guys that you could potentially develop. There also isn't any relegation risk and a promotion would just mean that you've done an excellent job at developing guys.

  12. I'm just gonna bump this post as I've noticed a third of the GHL teams have made offers trying to get the best prospect in the history of Fishbowl that the AI just happened to get. Let's leave him be and have more competition all around.

  13. They are a vast improvement in the sense of a team can develop its own prospects. However much beyond that they kind of are overkill. A team shouldn't need 6+ reserve players like a few teams are going after. It is also pointless to have a good reserve team. That said some people find it important to have a good reserve team. It isn't a massive problem that needs fixing. It is just a nuisance for a team to hoard a lot of players that they essentially end up not using. The proposed waiver system is a way to get around the hoarding.

I will admit that I am also hoarding on Lumber, but they were guys that I've already signed for multiple years and kept as a backup in-case I get a demotion this season. If that happens, I'll have a team that I've already used for an SHL promotion :P. Although these players were all signed before free agency this season.

  14. I think there is actually a cooldown of 2 hours, MNLK just went through this when restarting from SHL to LIHL. Although the current cooldown is more so a cheater deterrent. Personally, I don't mind if a new manager switches from an LIHL team to a BHL team when a spot opens up, especially if the manager is brand-spanken-new. Some guys enjoy playing at a higher level more even if the competition is roughly the same as the lower level. My preference was to start in the LIHL so that the team would feel truly mine, but I know that I don't share that with everybody. I also wouldn't want to force a guy to be playing in a lower beginner's league than he wants to just because he signed up a couple days too early.

I agree that managers switching a lot is annoying, but it's hardly ever noticeable so I don't think the delay needs to be lengthened. I also haven't noticed as many/any cheaters since the 2 hour delay has been a thing, so I think a 2 hour delay works pretty well. However, if the cheater thing changes, then I'd be in favor of a longer cooldown.

  15. Don't get me wrong guys, I don't think affiliates are necessarily bad, it's just a little bit annoying. Maybe this could also just be how she goes now and we have to wait a couple seasons so that everything balances out. The first-hand experience has just raised my liking of the waiver idea.

  16. Honestly, it already stings a little bit to see guys that I was going after immediately assigned to their affiliates. As Jihee mentioned, they weren't GHL good, but they might be in a few seasons as they were young. It definitely changed my opinion of the waiver suggestion from meh, to maybe this should actually be a thing. Although I am satisfied that there will be more players signed by the end of the season, I always found it weird when there were a bunch of unsigned guys just sitting around.
