  1. It varies by league.

    LIHL/IHL/BHL/SHL

    - Top 2 teams automatically promote.

    - Teams ranked 3-6 have a playoff against each other (3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5).  Winner of each series enters a playoff against the teams ranked 13th and 14th in the higher league.  If the lower league team wins the playoff against the higher league team, the lower league team is promoted and the higher league team is relegated.  If the higher league team wins, both teams will stay in their respective leagues.

    - Teams ranked 7-12 have a playoff just for fun, no relegation/promotion on the line.

    - Teams ranked 15-16 automatically relegate.

    Example of the promotion/relegation playoffs:

LIHL #3 seed beats the #6 seed and faces IHL #14 seed.  LIHL #3 seed beats IHL #14 seed.  LIHL #3 is promoted, IHL #14 is relegated.

    GHL

    - Top 8 teams have a playoff to crown the league champion.

    - Teams ranked 9-12 do not have a playoff but are safe from relegation.

    - Team ranked 13-14 will face the winners of the 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5 playoffs in the SHL to determine promotion/relegation (as highlighted above).

    - Teams ranked 15-16 automatically relegate to SHL.

Each playoff round is a best of three.

  2. I was thinking about a way to add more realism to each team, being able to name your home arena.

I kind of appreciate the fact that every team is on a level playing field in terms of finances, fan base, ticket prices, etc.  For example, selling more tickets doesn't get you more payroll.  Maybe that would be fun to look into down the road, but for now, each team should be proud of their home arena and, at the very least, be able to name it.

  3. Eventually, every team will be controlled by a human, I know this is one of Anders' dreams.  How cool would that be?!  Rather than blaming this or that, why not invite some friends to join GPHM, therefore shrinking the amount of CPU teams.

Oh, and BTW, I wouldn't recommend liking your own posts, Kuensami, it makes you look bad.

  4. Mitts is stuck at 00:00:00 on Day 39, or it is just taking a really long time to end the day.  Speaking of which, has any else noticed the web site being a little slow over the past couple days?  I've noticed slowness in Lumber and Clapper too.

  5. No problem, Cliff, as I said, I was cool with the trade otherwise I would not have accepted it.

I could've been your feeder team!  Send your top picks down to me and I could have developed them for your GHL team! :)  Although, now that I'm in the GHL, that idea won't work.  Speaking of feeder teams, I'm excited for the next big update which should introduce minor league affiliates!

  6. Now that I'm in Mitts GHL, I should start paying attention. :D

Deadwood Outlaws gave me his 2nd and 3rd round GHL picks for my 1st round SHL, knowing I would be promoted to GHL and thus my 1st round SHL pick turned into the #3 overall pick in the Season 12 Draft.  This happened before the Gentleman's Rule came into effect, and honestly, I'm not bitter about it.  It's all part of the game, and I'm actually pleased with my 2nd round pick. :)

  7. I think a Depth Chart would be cool and would give managers an extra level of realism to the game.  You never know when your star player is going to get injured...wouldn't it be nice to have an automatic succession plan in place without altering your lineup manually?

I've also noticed some managers complain that the computer resets their lineup if they don't sign in to GPHM on a regular basis.  I realize this is based on the speed of the game world, but why be punished if you are in a lightning world and don't sign in for two or three days?  Real life happens.  Depth Charts could be one way to solve this.

  8. Top two teams in LIHL automatically promote to IHL.

Teams ranked 3rd to 6th in LIHL have a first round playoff (3rd vs. 6th, 4th vs. 5th) for possible promotion.  While this is happening, teams ranked 11th to 14th in IHL have a first round playoff (11th vs. 14th, 12th vs. 13th) for possible relegation.

Winners of LIHL first round play against the losers of IHL first round.

Winners of IHL first round stay in IHL.

If losers of IHL first round lose to LIHL team, that LIHL team is promoted and IHL team is relegated.

If losers of IHL first round win against LIHL team, that IHL team stays in IHL and LIHL team stays in LIHL.

    Confused yet? :)

I think this is how some soccer leagues handle promotion/relegation.

  9. Foreign Affiliate Teams

I like the World structure of foreign leagues in GPHM now.  USA has AMHL and AMHL2 (similar to AHL and ECHL in real life); Sweden has SEHL, SEHL2, SEHL3 (similar to Elitserien, Allsvensken, and HockeyEttan in real life), so on and so forth.  Let's use the foreign teams as affiliates.

    CPU manages minor league teams

A parent team in GHL/SHL/IHL/LIHL could have "control" over 1 or 2 minor league teams, for example in AMHL and/or AMHL2.  The human GM of the parent team can call up/send down players, and the CPU will be in charge of playing, coaching, developing the minor league teams.  That way you don't have to rely on another human to develop your players.

  10. I'm not sure why I said bwgrim before, my playoff series was against canucks and the Medicine Hat Tigers...I mean Assassins. :)  Sorry about that!

Next season is gonna be VERY competitive!  Good luck to all!

  11. Oh, I don't mind my old Blackville franchise name.  Actually, it's amazing how my career has come full circle.  When I first started back in June, I managed the Dunkirk Screaming Eagles of the IHL, and here I am again managing Dunkirk, just a higher league and a different nickname. :)
