Would it be possible to make the assistant reports from each game available for download.
Alot  easier to read and analyze these when you have time and not because you are forced before they disappear.

Updated the team roster below! I used the rule of thumb for those with ambiguous last names like Lang that I assumed they were of Asian descent if they were of American/Canadian nationality - which doesn't completely resolve the discrepancy but helps alleviate some of the more obvious problems. Also realized I somehow missed Bob Honda, who would undoubtedly be the most decorated player on this team as not only a six-time GHL champion but also leading the GHL in scoring in Season 8.

Some other observations when I took a deeper dive into the players' backgrounds:
There were 18 Americans and 12 Canadians out of all the players I found of Asian background (not all of them made the final roster since I only took the highest rated). 17 Chinese-Americans/Canadians which was by far the highest number, although again some surnames were difficult to assign to a single nationality Of these 17, there seemed to be a disproportionately high number from southern Cantonese-speaking parts of China with surnames such as Chan, Ly, Chow, etc.  6 Vietnamese-Americans/Canadians, which again was higher than I expected Only 7 total of Japanese or Korean descent, which was lower than I anticipated. Although this may be due to the ambiguity of some surnames, I was still surprised not to see many given their relative prevalence in real life Not a lot of common surnames - for example, it was surprising not to find a Li, Kim, or Chen to name just a few while we had much rarer surnames appear. However, I have seen more common surnames such as Xu and Zhang in other game worlds (UAT Mitts, Dangles) Also put together a quick mock lineup based on rating/handedness:

    Forwards
    Honda - Yao - S. Do
    Sin - Bui - Wan
    Pon - C. Do - Jung
    Ly - Yi - Chan
    Loy

    Defensemen
    Vu - Lao
    Chow - Osano
    Lang - Noda
    Noto

    Goalies
    Yu
    Chin
    Le

Not a typical-sounding lineup at all!

I know You're doing this just for fun but it's nice to see any interest about this game!   Nice job.

I send out a fair amount of personal messages to other managers. Sometimes it can be a bit hard to keep up with them. Just wanted to throw out a couple ideas for improvements on the current messaging system:

    - On the manager page, a separate tab from the current inbox for personal messages. The current inbox could be changed to 'notifications' and the personal message tab would be it's on tab next to history forum and chat. I'm not sure about other game worlds but in Howitzer the forum and chat function are rarely used within the game world. A new personal message interface could replace those two entirely.

-A bit of an email or message interface where threads are kept and you can view messages you've sent but haven't received a reply to yet.

-This would need the thread to be implemented, but it would be nice to know if a manager has read the message. Currently you don't know if a manager has read the message and not responded or the manager is just inactive. I also believe this would improve communication between managers solely on a moral standpoint (moral standpoint might be a leap, but you get the gist)

If anyone else has any other improvements that like to see for the PMs I'd be very interested in hearing about them.

ColoKrabatt reacted to EXXEO in Next Season's Draft Picks
I wanted to wait until a few things got worked out with the trade system but now that CPU trades are more stringent I think this may be a good time to suggest it. I like the idea of being able to offer up two seasons worth of draft picks. I think that opens the floor up for a lot of different trade options and could make manager interactions more in depth. For instance; player loans would be easier to negotiate having the option to offer up a next season 3rd round pick etc. Let me know what you guys think.

    Good idea Exxeo.

Perhaps there should be some restrictions, to prevent new managers from trading-away the future?
Example: Only after managing the same team for 4 seasons, would the manager be able to trade-away their 2-year-out future picks; and perhaps an 8-year manager, could trade away the 3-year-out picks?
    -
The worry is that some managers in desperate situations, will give the house away.

I've seen different opinions on this so the best advice is to try out different combinations and see what works for you.

I would think that for a Checking line you would need some combination of Power Forward, Grinder, Two-Way.  You'll probably want players with high Physical and Defense attributes.  For Energy you would need mostly Grinders and maybe an Enforcer or Power Forward.  You'll probably want players with high Spirit...and maybe Physical/Skating.  For both of these lines, you also may need Tough/Agitator type players, but not sure how much that plays in.

    * The statements above are purely educated guesses and not concrete facts.

** I have never been able to roll out a productive checking line.

    Good luck.

ColoKrabatt reacted to EXXEO in Colored Progress Bars
It's difficult sometimes to see how a player is progressing based off of the current bar system. One could take notes as to their last known locations and track gain and loss but what would be nice is a bit more simplistic overview. What if when you went to the player's progress tab you were then able to see one of four progress bar colors to show growth and decline. We could use the same colors (red, yellow, blue, green) as a foundation for this. Let's say that a player is increasing but at a slower rate at faceoffs then the bar would show as blue for slow progress while a different attribute on the same player could be increasing quickly and show a green color bar. Likewise, there could be a player that has some digression and his bars could look yellow or red depending on how fast those traits are decreasing. This would give a GM a better understanding in how their players are developing or decreasing and maybe even give a little insight into how training alters specific training rates.

    Thoughts?

Been thinking about this more.  I'm for the IR designation, but also feel like it could be exploited.  For example, if you have a player on a bad 1-way salary, you shouldn't be able to put them on IR as a way around it.  So I'm thinking the IR spot works with some variation of the following rules:

    1) Player MUST be injured in order to put them on IR
    2) Player must remain on IR for a minimum of 5-10 days
    3) IR does not totally relieve the player's salary - a portion of it (anywhere from 25-50%) should still count towards the cap

I feel like that would give managers some relief without allowing them to exploit it.

Training can be a factor, but I've seen enough people complaining about excessive injuries to people with perfect fitness, especially since the last major update.  My brother had his entire top line out for an extended amount of time even though they were all fit.  That's just not fair all the time, even if it is unlucky.  Besides, no one really likes injuries.  The game would be more fun if IR could mitigate the effects of some of the more annoying ones.

I think it would be fine even if the IR minimum stay was 15 days.  The point of IR would be to reduce the effect of unlucky long-term injuries, not a place to put every player out day-to-day with a fatigue injury.  It would just eliminate a major headache aspect of this game and make it more fun, without giving each manager an easy out for every injury (which would be just as bad as no IR anyway).

ColoKrabatt reacted to MattBerserkers in Roster limit
Imo, I don't think that would work as well. If we consider just lowering the cap, that wouldn't have affected the situation Senet got into in Dangles. He had over 50 guys, but kept adding more as there was always somebody that could be sent down and last I checked, while he had over 50 guys, he had over 7m in free space remaining. A different % would make a better than reducing the salary cap difference, but then at a number like 50% I see teams being forced between having some decent backups and a small prospect pool or else a decent prospect pool and some weak, injuries take me out of the competition, backups. I think managers should be able to have a chance to acquire a decent prospect pool and some viable backup players. A lower % than 50% would definitely work, but it'd take some trial and error to get perfect.

With a roster limit, we can just check for teams that strike a good balance between the regular roster players, prospects and backup players but don't have an enormous number of players and then decide what the cutoff should be. Looking around at teams, I'm agreeing that a limit of 40-45 guys would be good.

I don't think it would at all limit promoted teams from sticking in the new league. If they gave away 1-ways and promotion clauses like candy and are forced to hit the roster limit and still not have a viable team in their new league, then that was bad management in the previous year and they should suffer the consequences of too many bad contracts. If they just barely sign enough viable players, then they'd be in a similar situation to a team that might have a preference of many strong backup players rather than lots of prospects which would be a competitive team. If they didn't give anybody promotion clauses or 1-ways, then they'd basically be rewarded by being able to do what they want in the first season.

So to start, I've typed out something similar before in similar suggestion threads but can't seem to find any of them, so I'll just say it again. Also, I've played in the LIHL/IHL many times and have earned promotion many times, so I can kind of understand where you are coming from.

The problem with completely reversing the order is that the draft would become 100% useless for the SHL and GHL (BHL would stay at the same spot). The 1st round of the LIHL currently picks players around 60ish overall, if that were to become the GHL 1st round pick, nobody would make the league. No players are really given a chance in the league of "experienced" worlds until they are at least ~82 overall. And none of them will have a fast growth either that might be able to push them to the GHL by 21 -- they all would've been picked before the 1st round of the GHL teams. It's also a potential problem for the LIHL. They'd be getting the best players, but who cares. The league would devolve into a lottery for whoever was luckiest and got the best draft picks. Free agents wouldn't matter because drafted guys would all be at a level far above all of them that they could play the majority of the game and still have their team do well. It is also something the player would not want. If signed, the best players are now making 12k? versus the 500k they would have been making in the GHL. Also, since the competition worse, their own progress will slow down as well, no player would want that. The bad players (now GHL prospects) also wouldn't enjoy at as while they might've got plenty of ice time in the LIHL, they aren't going to even touch a contract in the GHL.

I haven't seen your 1st round thing suggested before, but I think it suffers the same problems. LIHL would get a chance at players that would be league-breaking whilst the higher leagues only get one useful pick. The current method is pretty good as it allows all teams to draft a player that can compete in their current league yet allows each team to draft a player that had tons of potential that could be in the next league.

Anyways, I disagree with the goal of your post -- that teams should be able to lots to offer to higher league teams. If they had guys the league above might want, the teams in the higher league should've signed them first during the off-season. If not, there wouldn't be any difference between the leagues, they'd all have similar talent +/- 1 overall. And if you want to add picks to just trade them to higher leagues, I also think that wouldn't work out. Ignoring that the picks would probably kept for the insanely strong players for a league in the draft, lower tier teams would get a fortune for their high picks that I could see morphing the league winner into whoever got motherload of a return for their pick.

Good points on both sides, but personally, I like the little extra complexity the 3rd round picks offer.  And it's always rewarding if you find a 'gem' with that pick.  Yes, most of them never pan out, but I feel like server strain may not actually be a massive problem, and very few NHL draft picks pan out in real life, too.  That's part of the fun.  I like the discussion, though, it's a good suggestion.  I just personally like it enough to keep the 3rd rounders.
