4 games left with 4 teams battling for 2nd.
And all 4 teams have games against each other.

I believe that's just the role CPU set him to play as junior according to his ratings when the player was first created. Then the player developed in different ratings and the computer doesn't change the role so he stayed at grinder. Never thought of it as a "natural" role for the player, but it could be that as well I suppose.

It's fairly common, although I haven't had much experience training a guy into a new role. But if you go to team -> action -> player roles, you can change a player's "default" role.

Hey everyone! I'm Luke Ciccone and I've been the manager of the Reliance Renegades for over a year now. I guess that means I'm not exactly new, but I figured I might as well introduce myself. Some of you may already know me as I'm rather active with trading and messaging other managers in Clapper. I'm also Mike's brother, who is the manager of the Colome Knights. He got me into the game and I'd like to think I'm already a better manager than him. Haha, maybe not but it's nice to have someone to bounce trade ideas off of.

When I joined, I was randomly placed on a BHL team when the regular season had already ended. My team had finished last place and was going to be relegated. I lost essentially everyone due to 1-way contracts and I had quite a bit of cap space locked from the previous manager releasing players with years still left on their contracts. I started completely fresh from the IHL where I finished first place in my very first season. I've worked my way up into the upper half of the SHL now where I was close to promotion into the GHL last season through the playoffs, but lost in the third game of the series. This season has been all about building up a strong young team for the next season. I'll likely be in the playoffs again this season but I'm not expecting promotion in the slightest.

I didn't really mean to give my whole 11 season summary, but I really love the game and am always excited to get to talk about it. I wish everyone success in their future seasons. Thanks!

I think the trades that are reported as cheating should be looked at by 3  Moderators or Judges from a different league(s). If it is determined to be cheating, the judges would request the two teams to respond to questions about the trade.  If they even answer, then the judges could make a ruling on the trade within x amount of days. If there is no answer in x amount of days then the trade is reversed, or the teams are penalized.

The only problem with stopping a new person from switching teams, is they have no idea what kind of team they are getting currently.  When I started I wanted to try an old Philly style bruiser team.  I was handed a bunch of twigs with puck control.  I switched my play style and basically had to throw away a whole season.  If that happened to me now, I would drop the team and keep looking till I got a physical team.

BHL Clapper has now had two instances where a team was taken over for one day, traded away assets, and then abandoned. In both cases, assets were traded to the same target team.

I think that it would make sense to impose a 10-day trading freeze with any team that has just been taken over. You don't have to bother with an IP search to determine if this is the same player or not. Maybe there are two players colluding? Who knows. Putting a small time delay just makes it more annoying to try to take advantage of the system.

It won't get rid of this issue, but it may possibly cut down on it's occurrence.

Ok, going to let the trading cool for a moment - seems like every time I trade my best players my team gets better. Just scored 6, which I think is the most we have scored in a single match all year...that's more than a losing streak of 5 games combined!

Thanks again guys. I'm proud to report we have pulled our way out of last place going 6-0-0-3 in our last 9 games (6-0-0-20 on the season now, good for 14th currently). Recent trade acquisition Ken Agostini has helped keep the ship on course a bit. While not being stellar in net, he has recorded some wins and stepped up to snap a bit of a losing streak we got into. I'm hearing there is now a trade block for new teams? Glad i was able to squeeze that one in lol.

I'm glad you didn't waste time arguing all those ideas, thats not the point. The point is to throw out any and all possibilities, to trigger better suggestions.

It would be interesting to review the league database to see what % of each teams cap was traded in a year, to determine an average %. That might help Anders to develop queries that identify questionable trades. Who knows.

I agree there would be a disincentive to new players. On the other hand, all of my trades in the first days of my GM'ing were rejected. And if I got a trade request immediately after I joined, I would be highly skeptical of it. Meh.

Idk, I proposed the 10 game number as some measure that may be easier to code than a IP check or a limit on team switching. To be honest I am not a programmer so I have no idea how hard any of these solutions are to implement.

You are correct, with a 10 game limit people would simply wait the 10 games and then trade, and abandon. It didn't even occur to me that people were dropping their teams, switching to a new one, initiating the trade, and then switching back... surely the 10-game would solve team switches? Because in the interim, there is a risk that you lose your twinked team, yes?

Anyway, I still think that this is a problem that could be calmed with a deterrent type measure. I believe it merits a constructive discussion.

I do disagree with the majority of the options for a variety of reasons I don't feel like typing. But this suggestion is very interesting.

I think it'd even be fun to have the rule for all teams to adhere to during the season. Say unlimited movement during the offseason and something like only being able to trade away say 50% of your cap. This would only affect outgoing players, not inbound players.

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking a series of strikes. Say a person trades with a team freshly taken over, a strike hits their account. If it happens again, they get punished. To prevent accidental punishments, these strikes should disappear after say 30 days. The team freshly taken over status should also have a limit of at least 10 days before it disappears. The cheaters I've noticed all made trades with multiple teams in quick succession, so something like this would only target the worst of the worst.

I think you're forgetting that people can create multiple accounts with different emails. Sure it's against the rules to have them join the same world, but is that really gonna stop a person already planning to cheat. It's part of the reason I think that a more sophisticated system would be required.

I think it would be better to limit to 1 or 2 switches per season, or to make it impossible to take over a team you've left from the same IP address.  That would make it impossible to re-join the team you are trying to benefit.  Imposing a 10 day ban will probably just discourage people from joining, or at least staying if they can't make moves.  I know personally I got really excited to start making trades right away as soon as I joined.

How about limiting team switching to 1 switch/season? And/or not being able to switch into a team you've traded with.

It would be a decent deterrent. My only issue is new players. The first thing most new players want to do is to make a trade and make their new team their own. If they can't do that for 10 (say slow world) days, will they wait, or will they just give up and abandon their team? I really don't know, but it's something to think about.

But yeah, if you've already decided to play this game, I agree that 10 days would be nothing. I think something like this would need a more sophisticated system.

I agree with Canucks. If you put a 10 day freeze the bad guys would simply wait 10 days to collude, no?
