TheWeekKnights reacted to EXXEO in Pre release v1.3.0 - Affiliate teams
I'm ok with the 10%. If there was no budget cost then people could fill two teams full of their own prospects with no regard to finances. In the long run, 10% of a players contract is very doable but some teams will need to make adjustments with the new systems in play. Let's say you want 6 prospects to go into each of your Affiliate teams and let's assume that we are talking GHL budgets. If you have 12 guys with $1 Million contracts that calculates out to a grand total of $1.2 Million in Affiliate costs (nearly the price of one decent player).

I think it also depends on Manager style. Some may want to take the long approach and pick up a lot of young, developing players to build a pool while some Managers may prefer the win now strategy. Either way, I feel Like the 10% contract cost is a good trade off.

    Savage Storm upend Timberwolves 5-2

SLAUGHTERVILLE, OK. The Savage Storm handily beat the visiting team last night, and boy was it a rough one. Credited with 23 hits, the home team spanked the Coquitlam Timberwolves on the boards and in the corners, and skated away from most of the physical play initiated by the visitors. After the first period, the Storm took a one goal lead and ground out the last two periods to a 5-2 final score.

Storm defenseman Lucas Calello shared the team lead of 3 hits last night and pitched in with a helper. "It's nice to be able to contribute on the gamesheet, but I feel better about beating on those wimpy SHL wannabees."

'Wolves backup goalie Joen Berg put on a brave face after the game, having let 5 out of 35 shots get by him. "Coach let me know with 10 minutes to go that I'd be playing, and I guess I just couldn't find my angles in time." Shortly after the buzzer sounded, Berg's twitter account listed a post that read, "Hey @BergerFries -- I found you this protractor goo.gl/ZzHVZs. Luv Mum."

While the Coquitlam coach was quick to get on the bus to their next game at Pinehurst -- a 1,200 mile trip -- their assistant manager, Notta H. Uman, was happy to comment on the game. "The team had some tactical difficulties offensively against our opponent's defence. The opponent's defense and goalie was superior to our team's goal scoring in today's game. The opponent's defense was superior to our team's offense in today's game. The body checking of our opponent's offense was superior to our team's defense in today's game." The guy did not shut up. "At least the team did very well tactically during powerplay against our opponent's penalty killing." Also, the Wolves did not score one powerplay goal.

The Storm's coach liked their compete level. "I think that we..." The rest of his statement was boring and had five spelling errors.

The Timberwolves play the Razorbacks at 12am tonight. Maybe we'll think about broadcasting it.

Well, less than 20 games in and I've already flirted with 15th place in my first SHL season. But after the last 10 games where we've posted a respectable 5-1-0-4 record, we sit 7th. I feel a bit better about the team, such that it is. Certainly need a few seasons to fully adapt the lineup. Just hoping to keep above the relegation line!

My next challenge: the big, bad , Savage Storm.
    *Boooooo*

Will the 'Wolves make it past the early-season juggernaut, having just lost their #1 D to a week-long concussion? Will the Storm flatten the visiting team on their way to a nigh-impossible 15-1-1-1 record? Tune your radio to C-SHL900 to hear all the bone-crushing action!

So I start my 2nd season......I'm actually glad I got relegated here's why ....my first season was a learning season learning the site and how it all works. I inherited a team with a bunch of 1W contracts. I now have a basic understanding of how the site works and I have a team staring from scratch that I have put together....... GHL here I come lol

Hey everyone! I'm Luke Ciccone and I've been the manager of the Reliance Renegades for over a year now. I guess that means I'm not exactly new, but I figured I might as well introduce myself. Some of you may already know me as I'm rather active with trading and messaging other managers in Clapper. I'm also Mike's brother, who is the manager of the Colome Knights. He got me into the game and I'd like to think I'm already a better manager than him. Haha, maybe not but it's nice to have someone to bounce trade ideas off of.

When I joined, I was randomly placed on a BHL team when the regular season had already ended. My team had finished last place and was going to be relegated. I lost essentially everyone due to 1-way contracts and I had quite a bit of cap space locked from the previous manager releasing players with years still left on their contracts. I started completely fresh from the IHL where I finished first place in my very first season. I've worked my way up into the upper half of the SHL now where I was close to promotion into the GHL last season through the playoffs, but lost in the third game of the series. This season has been all about building up a strong young team for the next season. I'll likely be in the playoffs again this season but I'm not expecting promotion in the slightest.

I didn't really mean to give my whole 11 season summary, but I really love the game and am always excited to get to talk about it. I wish everyone success in their future seasons. Thanks!

Ok, going to let the trading cool for a moment - seems like every time I trade my best players my team gets better. Just scored 6, which I think is the most we have scored in a single match all year...that's more than a losing streak of 5 games combined!

Hey all!  I'm not exactly new, but I never did introduce myself.  I'm Mike Ciccone from Columbus, Ohio, and I'm managing the Colome Knights.  I did a lot of looking for a hockey management game before stumbling upon this one, and I can say I'm glad I found it.  I recommended it to a few people, including my brother (with the Reliance Renegades), and we've both been playing for about a year.

So far, I took a franchise that was a perennial bottom-feeder in the LIHL to the GHL for the first time this season.  Hopefully I'll earn a shot at the championship in a couple seasons.

Thanks, and best of luck to everyone!

    Hi everybody!

I am Balazs Szabo from Hungary, and I am managing the Thornbury Tigers in this game world. I have another team in the Game World Biscuit, but I am looking for more challenge in this exciting game. I like the management games very much, especially the ice hockey and soccer themed games so I have found this online experience very entertaining. I tried a faster game world too, but I found it too hard to play with it, because sometimes I can only login 1 or 2 times a day.

I am here just for fun, but I hope my team can provide a good challenge for the other managers.

Good luck to you for the remaining matches!

Yes, you are right AY-BR. All city names are small villages or places that no way could host a large hockey team =). It's actually from a writers database over cities names to include in novels when you don't want  to use familiar cities. I felt this would be a good way to create a team with a fresh but realistic name and not to associate it with any existing hockey team.

But I'll add your request Harper1998 to my backlog. Thanks for your feedback.

I'm glad you didn't waste time arguing all those ideas, thats not the point. The point is to throw out any and all possibilities, to trigger better suggestions.

It would be interesting to review the league database to see what % of each teams cap was traded in a year, to determine an average %. That might help Anders to develop queries that identify questionable trades. Who knows.

I agree there would be a disincentive to new players. On the other hand, all of my trades in the first days of my GM'ing were rejected. And if I got a trade request immediately after I joined, I would be highly skeptical of it. Meh.

Idk, I proposed the 10 game number as some measure that may be easier to code than a IP check or a limit on team switching. To be honest I am not a programmer so I have no idea how hard any of these solutions are to implement.

You are correct, with a 10 game limit people would simply wait the 10 games and then trade, and abandon. It didn't even occur to me that people were dropping their teams, switching to a new one, initiating the trade, and then switching back... surely the 10-game would solve team switches? Because in the interim, there is a risk that you lose your twinked team, yes?

Anyway, I still think that this is a problem that could be calmed with a deterrent type measure. I believe it merits a constructive discussion.

I think it would be better to limit to 1 or 2 switches per season, or to make it impossible to take over a team you've left from the same IP address.  That would make it impossible to re-join the team you are trying to benefit.  Imposing a 10 day ban will probably just discourage people from joining, or at least staying if they can't make moves.  I know personally I got really excited to start making trades right away as soon as I joined.

Hello everyone! My name is Rodj and i have recently taken the helm of the Chattanooga Cherokees (formerly Brownrigg Redneck Hill?) in the Clapper BHL. I've been playing the game for about 3 or 4 months in Biscuit and decided to branch out a little and maybe find a more active league. I was going to post in the "introduce" tread but i saw the chatter regarding a suspicious trade. The trade with the Bears was made before i took over i can assure you. Since taking over, i have signed several free agents to upgrade the team (which btw has much more talent than my Biscuit team) and i have had 2 trades proposed to me. I rejected one trade proposed by the Canuck Gaurdians and i accepted another from the Sault Ste Marie Stray Cats for forward Maxence Bruno.

I have a ton of work to do with this team, which is great. The defense was just awful and goal tending even worse. The roster has players on the wrong side of 35 all over the place. But there are alot of positives as well. I see some great prospects and as i've mentioned, added some great young free agents to help turn this team around. On day 19 of season 19 I took the reigns of a winless team after 12 tries and on day 24 the team tasted victory for the first time at the expense of the Goldenville Hornets. And the winning didn't stop there as they marched into the lair of the #6 Deadwood Irishmen and left with the win in a tough back-and-forth battle. 2-0-0-17 for those keeping score at home. Sky's the limit. See you on the ice!

I've already put a "report cheating" request on the team. I would suggest that you do as well, if you haven't already.

That said, whatever happens, I plan on telling the coach to make a statement the next time we play the Bears

Also, in true passive-aggressive form, I have requested my assistant GM to barrage the team with trade requests for the player in question.

    Hello all!

Not 100% new to the game (been lurking for a few months now). Started in the IHL during the season before last, so last season was my 1st full campaign at the helm of the Tullahoma Tomcats. My team has regressed somewhat from when i took it over, with most of the better players leaving for free agency after refusing to resign. But, if there is one thing in particular i have learned as a day 1 Nashville Predators fan, it is that sometimes there is addition by subtraction (looking at you Ryan Suter and Shea Weber).

Best of luck to everyone and we will see y'all on the ice!!

"Coach, you're five games into season 19 and have been performing quite sub-par compared to your near promotion through the playoffs last season. Any thoughts?"

"We're working on it. Our team has a lot of young guys trying to make names for themselves and needs to sort things out."

"Speaking of arrogant young guys, what is going on with your list of goalies? You've got five of them, they're all in their 20's, and even worse is that they all have the worst personalities imaginable! How do you deal with a bunch of egocentric agitators at the goalie position?"

"It's quite entertaining really. Our backup goalie, Giger, taunts the opposing team relentlessly from the bench. On top of that, our starter, Cvejn, has gotten in his sixth fight already. That kid's got quite the arm."

"Six fights!? As a goalie!? We're only five games in!"

"Oh you must've misunderstood. Those six fights were just last game. He's probably closer to twenty or thirty fights on the season."

"Absolute madness! Only thing worse is if you make that punk a captain!"

"Well, Jerry, it's too early to tell.  We could have some budding stars, especially at goaltender, but we definitely need more production out of our veterans."

"You've had a bit of controversy recently.  Tell me about that."

"Larry, it's still developing, but our assistant captain Ilja Bulla has looked slow, sloppy, and hasn't recorded a point yet.  We looked into it and found he's eating a bucket of fried chicken just before the start of each game.  It's sending the wrong message, and he's been stripped of the 'A' and benched for the game today."

    "Homestyle or extra crispy?"

"Jerry, I just don't see how that's a valid hockey question.  But homestyle.  I had to...confiscate it."
