Erzac got a reaction from Steve in Player salaries & cap (bug?)
Just something that came to mind, the easiest way to probably resolve this would likely be a gradual decrease of current salary cap over a few seasons until it's at a "realistic" level in comparison to the current contracts (probably somewhere between 40-50 million). A gradual decrease would allow teams to make necessary moves and prepare in advance.

I'll keep hammering at this a little more.

Superstar contracts should take at least 10% of cap space making those players a real commitment cap-wise. Currently in Biscuit GHL there are exactly 2(!) players that take over 10% of cap space. (With many star players taking much closer to 5%)
    A ratio of 0,125 players/team.

    Compare this to the NHL:
In NHL there are currently 30 players that take up 10% or more of a team's cap.
A ratio of 0,968 players/team. Almost eight times higher ratio than in Biscuit GHL currently.

Not saying this game should try to model the NHL, but clearly a change is needed to make the cap space an actual factor in decision-making.

Would just like to bump this thread a little as I see this as a huge issue and it's not being talked about much.

Many players across the board in GHL take significant pay cuts in their extensions regardless of age, skill or production. It's more of a rule than an exception.
A player should never agree to a pay cut unless his production or skills are clearly declining/not worth his current contract.

Currently if you get your hands on a player (in GHL), you will never have to let him go unless you want to (barring relegation/retirement), which really takes away from the managing experience. Having realistic extension demands from players would at least alleviate the problem by making cap space a real issue.

Erzac reacted to Wick Schozen in GHL Manager Poll - Season 22
Submissions for the inaugural Howitzer - GHL Managers Poll have ended. This event will take place annually with the GHL managers receiving their ballots after game 30 and have 15 game days to get their submissions in. We received full ballots from 7 teams and a partial ballot from one team. I am keeping the answers confidential but if everyone collectively wanted transparency I can release the ballots of the managers. I like the anonymity with something like this though. With that being said here are the results.

    Individual Accolades

Best Forward GHL - Alexandr Gavrikov, Unity Fire Dogs
Receiving five of the seven votes Gavrikov was the consensus top forward in the GHL. Currently sitting with a healthy 9 point lead in the scoring race, Gavrikov has been a top 5 scorer in the league for the last four seasons straight and looks poised to capture his second scoring title in that span.

Best Defensemen GHL - Dalibor Kosegi, Newcastle Fighters
Kosegi grabbed four of the seven votes for top defensemen and with three other individual defensemen receiving votes. Kosegi has been flirting with the league lead in goals and battling it out with former defensive partner Joshua Metts (recipient of one vote) for highest scoring defensemen. The 24 year old Kosegi has eclipsed 50 points in his last two seasons and has a chance to crack 60 points this season.

Best Goaltender GHL - Thor Landstrom, Stony Brook Steel & Gino Vincent, Unity Fire Dogs
Claiming two votes each in the most spread out category, Landstrom and Vincent share will share the title of best goaltender(s) this season. Landstrom has guided his team to two GHL championships in the last three seasons while the younger Vincent looks to take Unity back to the top after being acquired two seasons ago. Landstrom and Vincent are the only goaltenders in the league to hold higher than a .930 Sv% with more than 20 games played.

Number One Player Voted To Build A Team Around - Dalibor Kosegi, Newcastle Fighters & Michal Kadura, Palm Harbor Legends*
Another split decision with each player receiving two votes each, the managers who took part in the poll leaned towards two young defensemen as the best foundational piece for their franchise. Kosegi who took out best defensemen is met by 21 year old Michal Kadura formally of the Nottingham Purple Storm. Kadura while yet to break out offensively looks to take steps forward in that department on a more prominent team in the GHL. Gavrikov and Landstrom also had their name thrown in the mix.

What Is The Most Important Position - Goaltender
Goaltending narrowly edges out centerman with four votes to three. With the top two teams in the league staking claim to the top two goaltenders it’s not hard to find why managers hold goaltenders in such high regard.

Which Team Will Win The Most Championships Over The Next 10 Seasons? - Stony Brook Steel
With five of the votes it looks like something special is being assembled in Stony Brook. Already with two championships in the last three seasons, Stony Brooks balance of elite players and youth have them slated to reach dynasty status in the 'Season 20s’.

Which Team Will Need To Rebuild In The Next Five Seasons? - Palm Harbor Legends
While only garnering three of the votes that was enough to have Palm Harbor as the predicted team on their last legs before tearing it down. After claiming the season 19 championship on the back of an ageing core, we’ve already started to see the transition of the Legends with the new blood coming in after the regression of Seb Jett.

Who Would You Least Want To Face In The Playoffs? - Stony Brook Steel
No surprise for many, Stony Brook’s prowess was established with their playoff performances and even if you hope to get by them in a serious you can be sure it’s going to take three games and letting go of any hope to rest your starting goalie to do it.

Hope you guys enjoyed the Managers Poll. I have a couple additional questions I’ll look to add next season. Hopefully with some more attention to it we can receive a better response to get the leagues complete opinion.

Indeed it's way too easy to hold on to star players (or any players for that matter). Sometimes they even accept extensions for less money than what they previously got, even if their skill level has remained the same or improved, and they are still in their prime.

Individual stats (and maybe team position in the standings/playoffs) should also play a role when it comes to how much a player asks for. If a player is coming off a great season he should ask for more. Significantly more if he has great stats season after season.

    Hi!

So few players from other teams and my Aurelius who is 94 ovr request imo way too low salaries. I know we are in sort of a transition phase, this isn't real or EA NHL etc., but Aurelius is 94!!ovr (Hell, even EA put McDavid and Crosby as 93 ovr) and he wants 4,4m. I could have FIFTEEN of them in my roster. That's way too much imo. Ofc, like probably everyone here, I like to see my young guns develop, hate to see them go, because of cap problems etc., but I think I should not be able to have even ten of those in my roster. It also decreases the need to shed salary, which should imo. be a part of this kind of game.

Then again it's what's been allowing me to pay a lot to FA's I'd want to get them so not sure should I be complaining about it, lol

    Cheers

This totally worked btw.  Started 2-0-2-6 at home this season.  I am now 11-0-2-7.  9-1 at home in my last 10 games.  Deferiet Garden is once again a feared arena for all opponents to play in.  A combination of the uniform change and the $1 whiskey shots (limit of 8 per period) keeps the fans lubed up and loud.

Erzac reacted to Wendel Clark in Tactic Familiarity
I changed most of the tactics when I took over the team, and here are the number of games it took for tactic familiary bars to rise.

From starting red to minimum orange: 11 games
From minimun orange to minimum blue: 7 more games, total of 18 games
From minumum blue to minimum green: 6 more games, total of 24 games
From minimum green to full green: 5 more games, total 29 games.

There might or might not be degrees to full green. When I originally changed tactics, it took several matches for the previous full green bars to visibly drop. If I'd switch now after just receiving full green bar, I have a hunch it might drop right away. I'm not gonna test it though.

    Hello everyone.

I took over Tullahoma Tomcats in BHL and have been trying to strengthen and balance the team to climb up in the standings. Was in 14th place when I started and relegation is not an option. This game sure is the ultimate manager experience.

Erzac reacted to xZhou in Team Asia
Motivated by the number of players of Asian descent to have recently been drafted in the early rounds of the NHL Draft, such as Nick Suzuki, Kailer Yamomoto, Cliff Pu, Jason Robertson, Tyler Inamoto, and Jonathan Ang, I compiled a list of players of Asian descent in GW Biscuit (total of 33 players, including some in the junior leagues) and created a team from the top-rated players at each position.

Although definitely lacking in depth, the team actually has some bright spots. Specifically, goaltending would unquestionably be a strength, as Justin Yu is one of the best goalies in Biscuit and still getting better. Jermey Sin was actually the Russian League scoring leader last season, and would spearhead this team's attack along with centres Max Lang and Preston Yao. Ruari Vu and Graham Lao form a competent top defensive pairing for the team, although the quality of defensemen drop down drastically afterwards.

Many of the players for this team (Sarah Do, Anthony Bui, Ryan Lai, etc.) are fast approaching retirement and have declined significantly in the past season or two. As a result, part of the reason behind me posting this now was to acknowledge them for their solid careers. On the other hand of the spectrum, there are a number of young players such as 15-year-old Louis-Phillip Low of the Ingolf Hawks (CAJHL) who I'd expect to continue to rise up the ranks and help fill in the gaps left by these retiring players.

Note that in cases where there was some ambiguity as to the name, such as the surname Lang, I assumed that these players are of Asian descent. In addition, just going off of last names of possibly Asian descent misses players who have Anglicized last names such as Jason Robertson, of Filipino descent, who was drafted by the Dallas Stars 39th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. Finally, I have a hunch that I missed a number of players of Japanese descent simply because their surnames may not be as easy to spot when scrolling through hundreds of names so feel free to let me know if I've missed anyone!
