Trying to be a little more active on these forums, so I figured I'd introduce myself.

My name is Josh, and first and foremost, I'm a follower of Jesus my Savior. I don't deserve to be, but I'm so grateful for His work in my life. Also, I live in the great state of Wisconsin where I currently live with my wife and son. I'm originally from Ohio, so I'm a fan of the Bengals and Buckeyes (O-H-I-O!)

I love text-sims games - and all of the challenge and thought that go into them. Probably my favorite text-sim game to this point is OOTP, though Fast Break College Basketball and Bowl Bound College Football are not far behind. And then there's Football Manager ... ok, I like a lot of them! :-)

This will be a dynasty thread about the Highland Potters in the Pennant Wars Williams League, Division 1.

A little background about Pennant Wars. PW is an online fictional baseball sim. It simulates games 6 times a day creating seasons that last approximately 6 weeks real time. Each league has four divisions to create post-season promotion/relegation opportunity so that the best teams rise to D1 over time. This structure also creates some nice introductory divisions for new managers. PW is heavily sabermetrics focused and has a great community full of active managers. If you want to check it out, the first season is free.

My team started in 2013 with creation of the Williams league. Under a different manager the franchise was named the Thai Fighters and had some early success. The franchise started in Division 2 (D2) and in 2014 earned promotion by finishing in at the top of its conference and defeating a poor performing D1 team 4-2 in a 7 game series. The Fighters continued to succeed, winning their 2015 D1 conference with a regular season record of 97-65. But the Fighters were summarily drummed out of the semifinals of the World Series by the Yerba Buena Zephyrs.

After 2015, the team went into a free fall. They lost their star player, Harold Pillar (retired in 2030 with career OPS of .885 and 340 home runs). I'm not sure what happened, but at some point the team's first manager left and the now rudderless Fighters had three losing seasons (2016-2018) and were demoted back to D2. At this point I joined Pennant Wars and was assigned the Thai Fighters. I rebranded the team the Highland Potters and got to work stabilizing the franchise in preparation for the 2019 season.

Chris reacted to PointGuard in Tom “Whatever It Takes” Bradbury
During my interview for the head coaching job at Memphis, Steve Forester, the AD, said he was tired and the alumni were tired of Memphis playing 3rd fiddle to Kentucky and Louisville. The more we talked, the more I realized that this was my opportunity to make a huge jump from a very low mid-major in the coaching ranks to an up-and-comer. Steve said he wanted a coach who would “do whatever it takes” to make Memphis a powerhouse team. Not only does he want the Tigers to best Kentucky and Louisville, he wants a national championship, and better yet, multiple national championships. And he wants it as quickly as possible.

It’s obvious he’s familiar with my background (very high ambition, very low academics, low discipline, low temper, and very low integrity)....so he realizes I’m not adverse to “doing whatever it takes” to get the job done. In other words, he’s found his man.

So a marriage officiated by the devil was cemented and I became the new head coach of Memphis.

Steve’s goals for me and the team this season: (1) sign a 4-star recruit; (2) win 20+ games; (3) win the American Athletic Conference tournament; (4) reach the Sweet Sixteen; and (5) improve school prestige. Obviously a tall order since the Tigers hadn’t gotten close to reaching any of those last season.

My first task was to hire Ray Schau, a top-notch recruiter, Mike Hampton, who is very adept at developing players, and Kelvin Chadwick, a talented scout, as my assistants. Not only are they good at what they do, but I know each one and like me, each will “do whatever it takes” to get things done.

Chris reacted to FreeBundy in Purple Reign: A Vikings Dynasty (Madden 15)
In 2014, Mike Zimmer took over as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. He inherited a team full of promising-but-undeveloped youth, in a tough division. A rookie quarterback was ready to shine, alongside a troubled runninback, underperformin receivers, an overpaid tight end, and a patchwork offensive line. A defense that had once been so dominant with stars known round the nation would have to rely on unknown and inexperienced youngsters.

2014 was not a good year for the Vikings. They started off with three losses, before finally defeating a team (their then-undefeated rival, the Green Bay Packers). The rest of the season was plagued with injury. Rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater finished with 15 starts, going 5-10, passing for 2649 yards, 15TD, and 12INT. All-Pro back Adrian Peterson missed the first month of the season with injury, and sat out a few more weeks, finishing with 170 carries for 922 yards (5.4 avg), and only 4 TDs, the first time in his career that he failed to reach 10 or more touchdowns. WR Wes Welker, an off-season pick-up, finished with 73 grabs for 800 yards and 5 scores. Tight end Kyle Rudolph finished with 50 grabs for 379 yards and 4TDs. Mike Wallace added 65 for 837 and 3TDs, Cordarrelle Patterson 18-119-1, Charles Johnson 66-592-2, and Stefon Diggs 1-11-0. The line struggled. Matt Kalil allowed 13 sacks, playing in 14 games. His reserve, TJ Clemmings, a rookie, allowed 4 sacks in 4 games. Rookie guards La'El Collins and David Yankey duked it out for the left guard spot; Yankey allowed 6 sacks in 16 games, while Yankey managed just 5 total downs. Center John Sullivan allowed just one sack, as did right guard Brandon Fusco. Right Tackle Phil Loadholt allowed 9 sacks. Defensively, acquired end Vinny Curry had 10 sacks. The rest of the defense missed too much time for any notable stats.

The 2015 off-season brought change to the Vikings. They hammered free agency, grabbing 1st year running backs David Cobb (Titans) and Zach Zenner (Lions), retrieved fullback Jerome Felton from the Bills, and made a splash at receiver, signing Larry Fitzgerald and Vincent Jackson as starters. Two tight ends from free agency made the final roster, Jermaine Gresham and Virgil Green. Chris Myers was brought in to replace Joe Berger. At defensive end, Ryan Davis, who made 10 sacks in 2014, was signed, as was 1st year lineman Leonard Williams. The Vikings made a 1-year "wishful" offer to free agent defensive tackle Nick Fairley, and Fairley surprisingly accepted it. Free safeties Charles Woodson and Gerod Holliman were brought in as depth for All-Pro Harrison Smith, who enterred the last year of his rookie deal. Antrel Rolle was signed as insurace at strong safety, and punter Jon Ryan was brought in to replace Jeff Locke.

The draft was also exciting. Adrian Peterson, troubled and wanting out, was traded in a risky move to the Indianapolis Colts for WR Philip Dorsett and a 4th round pick. TE Kyle Rudolph was dumped to the Falcons for picks. Everson Griffen was sent away for picks, as was Lance Briggs. Then, with 9 possible draft selections, the Vikings traded down from the 8th overall selection into 2016's draft.

    Round  Pick          Pos           Name                           College
    2         25 (57)        G               Chad Fields                 Wisconsin
    3           8 (72)        OT             Lary Guy                     Memphis
    4           8 (104)      RB             Mike France                Wisconsin
    7           8 (200)      FB             Corey Redmon            Wisconsin
    7        32 (224)       FS             Marquiste Chapman    Delaware

The Vikings turned their 9 selections into 5 slections, including Mr. Irrelevant (pick acquired from the Packers along with a 2016 7th for a 2015 5th) Marquiste Chapman, a project safety out of Delaware. Chad Fields, a 1st-team All-Big Ten player as a junior, was a 1st-round talent to the Vikings, and they couldn't believe it when he fell to them at 57. 15 picks later, they grabbed Lary Guy, a huge right tackle out of Memphis. Guy, a 20 year old redshirt sophomore who entered college a year early, was a 2nd-team AAC selection in '14. The Vikings plan on developing him to either take over for Loadholt at tackle, or kick inside to guard if Fields doesn't work out. Mike France is an athletic runner, with a running style very similar to Ahman Green. France put up big numbers behind Field and the rest of the Wisconsin line, but only received Honorable Mention Big Ten honors during his redshirt senior year. Completing the trifecta of Wisconsin selections was Corey Redmon, a big, receiving fullback. Redmon had to split time with a run-blocking specialist, Kasey Lucas (who spent time in Vikings camp as an undrafted free agent), at Wisconsin, so it was a schock to many that he was even drafted. The Vikings said that Redmon offered great skills as a potential developmental #2 tight end, and converted him to the position, though he's slightly undersized.

2021 Regular Season is in the Books, Jays are Baseball's Best During Regular Season

    October 6th, 2021

The 2021 Regular Season is now officially over and the Toronto Blue Jays finished with the best record in baseball at 108-54. They ran away with the American League East in the final month of the season. The Jays started September with a slim 2.5 game lead over the Yankees and by the time the dust settled and the season was over the Jays had opened up an 18 game lead over the second place Yankees. With the victory the Jays have clinched their 4th consecutive AL East Title and 4th consecutive playoff birth. The Jays will have to wait to see who they will face in the American League Division Series as they will play the winner of the AL Wild Card Game between the Cleveland Indians (96-66) and the New York Yankees (90-72). The news was not all good for the Jays in the final month of the season as they were hit with a rash of injuries just as the season was winding down. They would end up losing C Max Pentecost (out 3 weeks with hamstring tendinitis), RF Oswaldo Arcia (out 4 weeks with a separated shoulder) and 3B Stu Daniels (out 7 weeks with a fractured finger). Pentecost and Arcia should only miss the start of the ALDS but Danies is defiantly going to be out for the entire ALDS.

    Minor League Awards
The 2021 season has wrapped up in the minor leagues as well and the Jays minor league affiliates boasted 11 MVP or Pitcher of the Year Award winners. GM Ryan Stewart "We couldn't be happier with the progress that our development and coaching staffs have made with our minor league system this season. We have put a big emphasis on building a sustainable pipeline of minor league talent that we draft and develop up through the system and that we can use on the MLB roster or as potential trade pieces to help fill gaps in our talent base. I can't praise our coaching and development people enough they did a fantastic job this season and were excited to see what they will be able to accomplish next year"

    Hi all,

One of my users was stumbling across this site. So I contacted Chris to add my little baby here, which is called RedZoneAction.org .

The game is online since 2011. It was written in my spare time during 2 years, with the support of my loyal group of testers - and receives updates on a regular base. Meanwhile the game serves a few hundred managers from all over the world with some fun in their spare time. The game can be played completely for free, but there is a supporters option available as well to cover costs of running the server and so on - however, purchasing such an supporters account doesn't give you any advantage for the gameplay. The game is still a spare time project of me. It is a typical GM game, where you are in charge. You have to manage contracts, have to create game-plans, run the training of your players, have to hire coaches and so on - you are the mother of your team. We play NFL style league systems, including but not limited to run a 3 days Draft each season, playing two league games a week. You will find a playbook editor and a depth chart function. We have a quite relaxed but vital community over there, with managers willing to help new starting GMs. Would love if you give it a try.

Here are some flaws in the game that I've found and want to fix pretty soon

    * A team can survive with very few players on the roster. That means that you can afford to many great players without suffering any consequences. This can be fixed by increasing injuries to a more realistic level and increasing endurance loss for players with a lots of ice time.
    * Great goalies have a unrealistic impact on the team. Some goalies have ridiculous stats.
    * There might be unbalanced regarding tactics. Any tactics using physical and spirit ratings have too great advantage today.
    * Natural talents develops to fast. Many players in the high speed worlds are already hitting 99 in multiple ratings.
