  1. I call that: "playing yourself out of a job", when a player becomes unsignable.

Probably the fault of their agent though, telling them they're GHL ready, when no GHL team will hire them.

Would be funny to add a groveling feature: where 10 games into the season, you get a message from one of these guys that you have shortlisted, and the message essentially says: "Sorry to bother you, but if you have any space left on your team, I might be willing to take a pay cut. No more agent fees to pay, since I've fired him!"

  2. It wasn't with an AI team einstein which is what the report function is for first and foremost. The manager of the SHL team proposed the trade to me too. I tried to talk them out of the trade in terms of them not getting immediate trade value in return despite them winning the trade long term. They still felt confidant enough to want the trade.

In terms of the trade and what went both ways I got what will never be more than a very good backup or ok starter goalie in return for what should be an equivalent goalie now if the game hadn't screwed me in development but will be a quality GHL starter down the road in Klavins (he should be developing at 5+ overall a season if he plays for at least 3 more seasons fyi making him nearly 90 overall,) what will be a good GHL defenseman in a few seasons in Steegman and 3 forwards that if they develop will be quality 3rd or 4th line forwards for a GHL team. Since they went to a SHL team the players they got are a young but elite SHL goalie that can be carried into the GHL as a quality starter, a cornerstone SHL defenseman to build around that will also be carried into the GHL and 3 forwards that can make a real impact at the SHL level that may be able to be carried into the GHL. In return I got a goalie that they couldn't resign and I could use in emergency if I end up not finding someone to replace Loveday in 2 or so years. That said Bockastael will never be a high quality starting GHL goalie like Klavins will in at most 4 seasons.

So yeah I sure hosed a SHL team with that trade. Good catch there. Seriously dude not all 5 for 1 trades are lopsided in favor of the GHL team. Heck that should never have been a 5 for 1 trade as I gave way more than I should have for what I got in return. So please don't be stupid and crass like this. It isn't needed. However if you can explain how trading a definite starting GHL goalie in about 3 seasons time, a quality GHL defenseman in about the same time (Steegman should be gaining 4-5 overall for the next 4 or so seasons,) and 3 potential depth forwards for what amounts to what will be nothing more than a decent starter at best with another human manager is cheating the AI in a trade I will concede the point and reverse the trade or even do more.

So you're caught in a blatant lie, and your response is to insult me, and then spend two long paragraphs blah-blahing about how you were practically raped in the trade, and extolling us with your extraordinary vision of how good the given players will be in 3 years.  You said you hadn't made a trade in over one season, but you had made one just before you were reported.

If you were so sure of their becoming GHL studs: then why would you have traded them for an average player?  Cause the other team is your little sister, and you were generously trying to help them out?  How sweet of you.

Your saying the reporting function is mainly for managers trading with AI-teams, is, again, deflection, diversion, and outright BS.

Myself and others have been banned for trading with other manager-owned teams.

In the case of trades between human managers, the reporting button is used to report trades that seem terribly unfair.

We have seen people trading with multiple accounts, family members, buddies, and more.

The fact that you don't get banned for it, doesn't mean you are right.  It just means that you are on the sunshine list.

It is sad that the ones on the sunshine list, can't see the problem. Where is your sense of equality?

  3. I should have said this when it happened but I got reported for cheating March 30th (less than 2 weeks ago) when I haven't made a trade in nearly a full season. Clearly there is someone using the report function in the very wrong way. Steve I think you mentioned about getting reported by someone after your trade with the Vandals. I think this is what was going on. Someone just using it in angst rather than using it for what it should be used for. For the record of what it is worth (not much so don't read into this) I beat the Portland Oilers in OT on that day and beat Violet Volcano and York Wolfpack in the same manner in the days prior.

Good lord!   Yet another game administrator/adviser, with a selective memory problem!

Do you really think we are all that stupid?  Seriously?

3 weeks ago: you made a 5-for-1 trade, with an SHL team.   (Season 9, day 24.)

(For any that want to view said trade: GW Biscuit, go to "Transfers" page, then click on second tab: "Transactions", and scroll-down to day 24.)

Myself, and others have been banned for much lesser infractions.

This game has serious hypocritical, protectionist, two-tier problems.

And yet again: it is arrogantly suggested that it is poor-losers that are reporting you.  Total diversion technique, that shows you have nothing but contempt and disrespect for other managers. Thanks man.

Sad that you and the others are having success playing this game, by getting-away with activities that only reserved for the elite.   Glad that it makes you feel good about being a superior manger.

Sad to imagine what new players reading this, will think.

Like George Carlin said: " It's a big club, and you ain't in it".    (Meaning us, the plebe.)

  4. Agreed with both of you.

A manager should be able to make his picks unavailable.  This would help alleviate some of the useless AI trade-offers.

I often play in leagues with few real players, and mostly AI teams.  Once had 45 trade offers in the first 4 days of a new season, and the stupid AI always seems to offer you a prospect that they drafted, below the prospect you chose and drafted!  It's a ridiculous waste of time.

Would also be more fair for all if the AI teams didn't trade at all.

Will take a look at those trades from Clapper, and report them if it feels unfair.

  5. I don't recall the exact trade you are referring to in Season 8, but it would be hypocritical to suggest I have never tried to push the envelope with a CPU trade (not sure last time I did one, but am sure I have in the past) or even a trade with a fellow manager.  But this goes to the point right, we either need to rely on some generally reasonable self policing (I don't trade with SHL teams unless I feel what I am offering is something that can help them immediately) or just prevent CPU altogether.  Honestly, since it is such a hot button issue and creates a lot of bad blood between each of us, I say just ban it outright.  All CPU rosters should be locked.  Seems like it would put an end to repetitive conversations like this, no?

Thanks for your honesty Steve.  You seem like a good guy, and am glad you didn't take my complaint personally.  It was more about our human-nature competitiveness.

Trade history can be seen on the league transactions page, then there is a button to click and look back at the previous season.

  6. If someone is just blatantly reporting people for cheating just because other teams beat him or won't trade with him, then he should also be blocked for some time since it does interfere with the games and people's reaction to the game.  I doubt the system masks the accuser from Anders.  At some point, Anders probably needs to tell him to knock it off, go or flat out block him for a few days.

    Hi Steve.

You also said this in a previous post: "We're all adults here and if you can't defend your trade, even if lopsided, then we probably don't want you in Biscuit anyways.  "

Please be careful not to sprain your ankle, as you step-down off of your self-anointed soap-box.

I'm one of the ones that reported you. It wasn't for the last trade, but for the AI-team rape-trade you made on Day 12, of Season 8.

Don't mean to pick on you, just get so sick of the constant hypocrisy here.

I'm no better, and have been banned with every team I manage, even for trading with other players.  Will probably get banned for accepting a CPU-offered trade sometime. That will be funny.

All of this judgement of fair-trade stuff doesn't work. Players can't be trusted to police themselves, and Anders doesn't have time to play kindergarten teacher with our little disagreements.

The best way to end a complaint, is with an offering of a solution:

A-) Create a game-world where AI trading is completely disabled.

B-) Create a game-world where AI trading is 100% acceptable even when lopsided.

Of course I would be the only real-player in that B world, right?  ;)

  8. What a mess!

A regular medieval witch-hunt: with pitchforks, torches, everyone pointing fingers, accusations flying, posturing, and grunting...

Just like a scene out of a Monty-Python film.

Received this in-game message, which I assume was sent to every GM, on day 34, season 7, GW Biscuit, and yes: it's from the very same manager who, once this goal was accomplished, went on to rape the abandoned team.

    PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM KIM VANDAELE
SEASON 7, DAY 34 COLLEGEVILLE RHINOS (SHL)

    Hi Soupy Salez,

    Hope you are well.

I'm sending you this mail because there are still some managers abusing the trade system in their advantage. I really can't handle the unfairness that comes with it and that's why I'm asking you to report the manager of Collegeville Rhinos (SHL) as a cheater. I think there are more managers like him but what he has been doing 2 seasons in a row is just unreal. I want to prevent this from further escalating and make it fair for other managers as well. If you look at his team it's amazing the way they have been improved, but if you look at the trade history it's clear to see how he got that far. He has been trading only with the CPU and is still abusing the system. This has to be stopped.

I talked with Anders about this and he does not have the time to investigate this further. He wants us managers to step up and take our responsibility to report him. If we have enough reports he will be blocked by the system. Please report him and let us do something about this unfairness.

    Thanks,

    Kim

Don't mean to pick on ya Kim. Most other players are the same:

Reggie quit the Collegeville Rhinos, a few games ago.
Anyone whom cares to have a look, will see that the rape of said team has already begun.

    **********************************************
    REBELS ACQUIRE SCHMITZ FROM RHINOS

The Richford Rebels have acquired Damien Schmitz and Bruce Redondo from the Collegeville Rhinos in exchange for Massil Christensen and rights to Matteo Legros-St-Pierre plus a GHL level 3rd round pick.

    **********************************************
There is a dark secret, hidden in the closet of this game. And it is hypocrisy and protectionism.

Well: I'm just teasing you boys.  Here's the good news: You're normal!!

Meta-gaming and gentlemen's agreements don't work.  Never have. Never will.   It seems to be against human nature.

Otherwise: why would we need referees and officials in every level of sports play?   We wouldn't need lawyers and judges, nor that smug principal who berated you, back when you were a naughty kid in school.

Heck: you even need a washed-up, red-nosed, fat booze-breathed excuse for a referee in your beer league, cause that arse for the red team keeps "accidentally" tripping other players, then saying a very disingenuous "sorry".

We all seem to try our best to game the system. We seek to minimize our taxes, and negotiate the prices of the things we want to purchase. We keep secrets from our co-workers, so that we can use them to look sharp at a later date.

From observation: it seems to be the way we are.

Yes: I trade with AI teams, almost exclusively.   I have not yet seen a reason or argument not to.  I have had a team in every GW, since the beginning of the game. Usually playing in the lower-level leagues, where there is two or four POT ( player-owned-teams).  The only way I will stop doing it is if I get banned, kicked-out, or the hardwired game-rules change.

These meta-gaming, gentleman's agreements were doomed to fail, and I never posted about them, because I was not in the GHL league where the discussion started, and I was dismayed at how the GM's who disagreed with it were portrayed.

From an outside point of view: in a GW of 90 teams, those rules benefit and protect the elite 8-10 teams; create an impenetrable buffer-zone of 4-10 mediocre teams; and lead to a world of hurt and despair for the remaining 70-75 teams.

How is that in any way fair gaming?

What is this BS altruistic proclamation: to preserve competitive AI teams for imaginary future managers? Horse-feathers!!

If all new GM's were to start in the LIHL: how is a team laden with about 25 yellow-barred LIHL players, (individual player trade values), supposed to make it to the elite top-10 in the GW, with 25 green-barred GHL players?

Drafts and free-agents (FA) you say? Moose-droppings!!

That's only possible if the table is equal for all, and so why not?    So let's do it!

Who's willing?  Flat fair rules, same for all.  No meta-gaming.

How about every GM in the game gets a vote on the rules concerning trading with AI-CPU-teams?

How's about's Anders hard-wire programs it into the game?

Then we all play within the hard-wired rules, and nobody has anything to complain about!

Except: any and every game-player has no choice but to play within the hard-wired rules, in any game, but some would seek to change those rules.

So; the rules get changed, or they stay the same.

But for the sake of understanding humans, please stop bending the rules, and then trying to convince others, that although you are advantaged by such change, that it's for the best for the game, and all involved.

Please: just stop.   Not everyone's buying it.

If it is indeed what everyone wants: then let's get a majority decision, and ask Anders to hard-program it into the game.

Of course: Anders can decide on his own, if he want's to do it.  We realize it is tricky and difficult, but we all, without exception, have faith in this wondrous gift of game, you have given us, Anders.  Thanks.

I did not mean to pick on anyone, just to show the undeniable true nature of us all.

None of us is sitting on a higher moral/ethical ground.

This post is not sanctioned by my mod status, but spoken as a sovereign soul.

  9. Howz abouts: each league, in each gameworld has it's own all-star game, say between game 30 and game 31.  (Or 40 and 41?  45?)

    Team Oddz gets players from teams in the standings: 1st; 3rd; 5th; 7th, 9, 11, 13, 15, and Team Evenz from teams 2, 4, 6, ...etc.

Players could be automatically selected based on performance rating, or an algorythm of stats, with an obligation of one player from each team.

Hopefully injuries would be disabled, like I think they should be for pre-season friendlies. Perhaps a good confidence booster for players selected.

  10. Hi Canucks and GMS.  In Mitts: I have the honor of managing the Ballenger-Creek Blacks, in the LIHL.

I just like starting at the bottom, and trying to work my way up to the top. I hope to see you in the GHL somewhere around season 9.

You guys could have a couple of championships each by then. Best of luck to you.

    Patience grasshopper.

  11. Thanks for your replies guys.

Indeed we all have different management and coaching styles.

GMS: Thanks for your explanation, but: your top of the league scoring? In case you haven't noticed; three players from my team have more points than your leading scorer, and I don't double-shift them either...

But we all know that parents always think their babies are the most beautiful baby in the world.

  12. @GMS: You posted a few days ago saying you were interested in trading, and open to all offers.   From my point-of-view: I was offering you my second-line, point-per-game forward, for your third-line checker. Because of the difference in salaries: I threw-in a prospect that I thought you could use as trade-bait, perhaps.

But now I see that you only get-by with only 5 or 6 wingers, and would have no use for a solid 3rd or 4th line winger from a normal GHL team. Makes me wonder how your team surprised mine with 4 3rd period goals last time we played, when my grinders should have skated your 5 twinkle-toes into the ice. Adjustments will be made.

Even if trades with under 90 players were blocked, (only for you I suppose, because us less-worthy managers are still interested in less-than 90 players), this one would not have been blocked, because there was a 90+ player involved!  Just that he was going the wrong way to your liking.  ;)

You want trades from me blocked?

        Consider it done!
