  1. ...and to those thinking of quitting GPH out of boredom, this is what you're missing!
  2. +1 to this crazy season in BHL!! My mouth has been agape over the last 20, 30, 40 games or so! I said it earlier in this thread even, this is a horse race... f'n crazy I'm afraid of making any changes to the roster etc so that I don't upset anything lol Good luck to all, I gotta say there are some solid teams in the league this year. Just stay outta my way!
  3. Yup, aware of the player role dialog. I'm just wondering, if you had 2 players with identical stats, identical role strengths, with the only difference being that Natural Sniper is classified as Sniper and Natural Sniper is classified as Grinder Would the Sniper/Grinder combo perform worse, when used in the sniping role? Of course, the above is a blindingly hypothetical case, but I thought that maybe someone with experience "coaching" a trans-roled player might volunteer experience on how it went.
  4. I have a player who, when you first bring up his player card, is categorized as a Grinder. But when you actually review the player roles, he is a natural Sniper, and is only "good" at his Grinder role. Is that common? He is only 21yo, so maybe he'll grow into the Grinder role? He's getting to the point where I could try him out as a sniper, but is he going to suck? Anyone else run into this? If so, how did your guy work out? Thank you, Greg
  5. Grr. That last game against your Cherokees stung -- all the stats looked to be leaning my way, but my goalie shat the bed!! Bag skate for him today Congrats in any case and welcome to the BHL. Stay outta my way! The playoff positions are a logjam this season!
  6. Anyone else care to weigh in? Do you like the system as it is? Or maybe you're concerned that the extra open computer teams means that there is not enough demand for the game, that we shouldn't make it harder for new players?
  7. I'm glad you didn't waste time arguing all those ideas, thats not the point. The point is to throw out any and all possibilities, to trigger better suggestions. It would be interesting to review the league database to see what % of each teams cap was traded in a year, to determine an average %. That might help Anders to develop queries that identify questionable trades. Who knows.
  8. I like that, the strike idea. It doesn't stop trades, but curtails them. In the vein of throwing ideas on the wall to see what sticks, here's a few (likely bad) ideas: New teams can only trade with lower leagues in the first X games New teams can only trade 2/5/10/whatever % of their salary cap in the first X games New teams can only trade players over 32 years old in their first X games New teams can only trade players with 1 year left on their salary in their first X games No prospects/draft picks/stars/Superstars/legendary Players that are part of an abandoned trade are excluded from playoffs Players that are part of an abandoned trade have their contacts automatically renegotiated to 20% of the current salary cap (teams with negative caps would not be able to sign free agents) Players that are part of abandoned trades are automatically lost to free agency Players that are part of abandoned trades are lost to teams in foreign worlds That's off the top of my head, without thinking of the repercussions. I welcome other ideas.
  9. People who wish to cheat will figure out a way. I have great faith in those people, they are resourceful. Unless Anders figures out a way to prevent it, I'm fairly confident that there will be cheating. What we can discuss is what might make it annoying to cheat. Right now, it is not annoying enough, actually its easy and fun So, in your opinion, what might prevent you from abandon-trading (my new term, trademark pending)? Please understand, I know you're not cheating... but you may have an opinion on what might make it a hassle, Yes?
  10. I agree there would be a disincentive to new players. On the other hand, all of my trades in the first days of my GM'ing were rejected. And if I got a trade request immediately after I joined, I would be highly skeptical of it. Meh. Idk, I proposed the 10 game number as some measure that may be easier to code than a IP check or a limit on team switching. To be honest I am not a programmer so I have no idea how hard any of these solutions are to implement. You are correct, with a 10 game limit people would simply wait the 10 games and then trade, and abandon. It didn't even occur to me that people were dropping their teams, switching to a new one, initiating the trade, and then switching back... surely the 10-game would solve team switches? Because in the interim, there is a risk that you lose your twinked team, yes? Anyway, I still think that this is a problem that could be calmed with a deterrent type measure. I believe it merits a constructive discussion.
  11. BHL Clapper has now had two instances where a team was taken over for one day, traded away assets, and then abandoned. In both cases, assets were traded to the same target team. I think that it would make sense to impose a 10-day trading freeze with any team that has just been taken over. You don't have to bother with an IP search to determine if this is the same player or not. Maybe there are two players colluding? Who knows. Putting a small time delay just makes it more annoying to try to take advantage of the system. It won't get rid of this issue, but it may possibly cut down on it's occurrence.
  12. Huh. Another team in BHL was taken over, traded assets to the Bears, and then resigned, all in one day. Huh.
  13. Huh. Another team in BHL was taken over, traded assets to the Bears, and then resigned, all in one day. Huh.
  14. It's crazy -- 11 points (less than four wins) separates 1st and 10th! @bhandsome BTW we play each other tomorrow. Good luck -- lets hope its a close, hard-fought contest!
  15. I've already put a "report cheating" request on the team. I would suggest that you do as well, if you haven't already. That said, whatever happens, I plan on telling the coach to make a statement the next time we play the Bears Also, in true passive-aggressive form, I have requested my assistant GM to barrage the team with trade requests for the player in question.
  16. ...Aaaaaand I'm now in 7th place, out of the playoffs. Bah. But as a consolation, I'm only 2 points out of 2nd, as positions #2 to #6 are tied with 27 points, and I have 25. Yes, I know it's early. But it's looking like there will be a logjam to the playoffs this season... I hope one of my new guys can help with the push!
  17. Yes, but not everyone will be open to negotiations. Some will say that they are happy with their contract and leave it at that.
  18. Huh. A computer team just traded away their 81 ovr for 3 players 71, 69 and 68. In BHL. Oh wait, it wasn't a computer team for a brief while. Huh.
  19. Yes it is early... But I'm hoping my early success is a good indicator. I'd like to at least participate in the BHL playoffs for the first time Lineup has been tweaked this season... Using two new C on the first line. Both studs, but one has much better faceoffs. Last year I was averaging 35/65 splits!!
  20. All three are young, so don't belong in your A group. The two centers that were injured for 20odd games were both under 165lbs, so they likely belong to group B. My defender injured for 8 games is 205lbs. So he would be in the C dude group named "miscellaneous". As a sidenote: The free agent filter tool should be improved to include handedness, height and weight. If this actually affects the game, I'd like to be able to scout on it.
  21. ...and now a 8 game injury to our #2 scoring D with the best +/- of the team?!? white towel time for the season
  22. Is this fixed? I just a trade request for a player in this exact situation. We're in S18, rights are up to S18, prospect is signed with a foreign club.
  23. Another center with a 20 game injury? Really?!? Argh
  24. Update on my post: Good: last 4 games are W, with a combined goal total of 18, to 8 for the opposition. Bad: losing my #1 center for 21 games due to injury. Silver lining: I get an opportunity to see if I need that #1 center... His upcoming contact for next year hanging in the balance...
  25. ...one interesting wrinkle, one of the expensive players I dropped (Breau) got picked up by another BHL team (Eagles). He was a $#@$ star, and it will sting to face him again. One of the fun things that I'm discovering this game brings that I could not appreciate until now, woot
