  1. Oakland Invaders (1-0) 7 7 10 0 3 -- 27 Denver Gold (0-1) 7 7 0 10 0 -- 24 First Quarter Denver - WR Nate Burleson 74 punt return (Janikowski kick), 8:10 Oakland - WR Jacquez Green 8 pass from QB Akili Smith (Feely kick), 13:09 Second Quarter Denver - HB Shawn Bryson 12 pass from QB Shaun King (Janikowski kick), 13:16 Oakland - WR Torry Holt 8 pass from QB Akili Smith (Feely kick), 14:45 Third Quarter Oakland - Feely 44 FG, 4:49 Oakland - WR Torry Holt 2 pass from QB Akili Smith (Feely kick), 10:19 Fourth Quarter Denver - Janikowski 39 FG, 6:33 Denver - WR Devery Henderson 35 pass from QB Shaun King (Janikowski kick), 13:17 Overtime Oakland - Feely 49 FG, 3:23 Having sent the game to overtime by scoring (10) 4th quarter points, Denver was able to force a 3 and out on Oakland's first overtime possession. On the ensuing punt, Denver WR Drew Bennett has the ball stripped away from him and Oakland recovers on the Denver 38 yard line. 3 plays later, Oakland kicks the game-winning field goal for the win to start the season in defense of their 2KFL title. Oakland QB Akili Smith, the regining league Most Outstanding Player, played very well (25/36 260 yards 3 TD 1 Int), despite being sacked 7 times and being supported by an anemic running game (46 yards, 1.5 yards per carry). Denver QB Shaun King was very efficient (22/29 229 yards 2 TD 2 Int), but 2 interceptions caused issues for his teams. Rookie WR Devery Henderson had a great debut (8 catches 119 yards 1 TD). Offensive Player of the Game - Oakland WR Torry Holt - 8 catches 88 yards 2 TD and a huge forced fumble on the punt return in overtime Defensive Player of the Game - Oakland LB E.J. Henderson - 2 TFLs, 2 run stops, 1 forced fumble
  2. Michigan Panthers (0-1) 14 0 7 7 -- 28 Birmingham Stallions (1-0) 7 21 0 7 -- 35 First Quarter Michigan - HB Shaun Alexander 27 run (Lindell kick), 5:44 Birmingham - HB Rudi Johnson 2 run (Dawson kick), 11:39 Michigan - HB Shaun Alexander 3 run (Lindell kick), 12:05 Second Quarter Birmingham - WR Deion Branch 8 pass from QB Peyton Manning (Dawson kick), 1:14 Birmingham - HB Rudi Johnson 3 run (Dawson kick), 6:32 Birmingham - WR Deion Branch 87 punt return (Dawson kick), 10:10 Third Quarter Michigan - HB Fred Jackson 1 run (Lindell kick), 11:23 Fourth Quarter Michigan - WR Peerless Price 10 pass from WR Aaron Brooks (Lindell kick), 3:37 Birmingham - HB Steven Jackson 4 run (Dawson kick), 7:58 With 2:17 left in the 4th quarter and down to Birmingham 35-28, Michigan QB Aaron Brooks has gotten his team down to the Birmingham Birmingham 21 yard line. The Michigan QB takes the snap and sits in the poket a good 5 seconds waiting for someone to get open. Seeing rookie WR Michael Clayton, break towards the goal line in the middle of the field. QB Aaron Brooks did not see Birmingham CB Tod McBride sitting over the top of the route, so when the pass is thrown, CB Tod McBride intercepts the ball in the endzone, ending the scoring threat and Michigan's chance to tie the game. Birmingham QB Peyton Manning was very good (19/27 244 yards 1 TD) and the Birmingham rushing attack, led bu new acquired HB Rudi Johnson, who had 2 touchdowns, and rookie HB Steven Jackson, gained 131 yards on the ground. Michigan QB Aaron Brooks did not play well (16/36 272 yards 1 TD 1 Int), but rookie WR Michael Clayton was amazing (7 catches 150 yards) and HB Shaun Alexander did what he usually does (19 carries 104 yards 2 TD). The defenses did not really stand out although the Birmingham pass defense did not let Michigan receivers get deep for big games, and pretty much keep the pass catchers in front of them. Offensive Player of the Game - Birmingham QB Peyton Manning Defensive Player of the Game - Birmingham DE Osi Umenyiora (2 TFLs, 1 QB Hurry, 4 run stops)
  3. Chicago Blitz (1-0) 14 3 3 3 -- 23 Tampa Bay Bandits (1-0) 10 10 0 0 -- 20 First Quarter Chicago - WR Donald Driver 44 pass from QB Eli Manning (Edinger kick), 2:53 Tampa Bay - HB Fred Taylor 1 run (Brown kick), 5:31 Tampa Bay - Brown 45 FG, 11:50 Chicago - WR Travis Taylor 61 pass from QB Eli Manning (Edinger kick), 13:07 Second Quarter Tampa Bay - WR Plaxico Burress 12 pass from QB Marc Bulger (Brown kick), 4:17 Tampa Bay - Brown 37 FG, 12:34 Chicago - Edinger 29 FG, 14:56 Third Quarter Chicago - Edinger 24 FG, 7:29 Fourth Quarter Chicago - Edinger 38 FG, 7:54 Welcome to the 2KFL, QB Eli Manning! Chicago rookie QB Eli Manning lit the Tampa Bay secondary ablaze with an aerial arsenal rarely seen in this league (31/48 405 yards 2 TD 1 INT). Three Chicago wide receivers went for over 80 yards catching apiece, WR Donald Driver (14 catches 175 yards 1 TD), WR Travis Taylor (5 catches 100 yards 1 TD), WR Cedric Wilson (6 catches 87 yards), and the hapless Tampa Bay secondary had no prayer of stop the Chicago passing attack. The Chiacgo offensive line, led by rookie T Jason Peters, was stout in pass protection allowing only 1 QB pressure and no sacks. Tampa Bay's offense scored 20 1st half points, but were shut out in the 2nd half. QB Marc Bulger played well enough (14/22 210 yards 1 TD 1 Int) but the Tampa Bay offense was carried by HB Fred Taylor, who was outstanding (29 carries 172 yards 1 TD). Neither team stood out on defense, though Chicago's defense did not allow a score to a very potent Tampa Bay offense in the 2nd half. Offensive Player of the Game - Chicago QB Eli Manning Defensive Player of the Game - Chicago LB Monty Beisel (1 interceptiom, 1 forced fumble)
  4. Washington Federals (0-1) 7 7 10 3 -- 27 Philadelphia Stars (1-0) 0 7 7 14 -- 28 First Quarter Washington - WR Andre Johnson 9 pass from QB Matt Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 10:57 Second Quarter Washington - WR Andre Johnson 52 pass from QB Matt Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 7:16 Philadelphia - HB Aaron Stecker 36 run (Graham kick), 12:05 Third Quarter Washington - HB Edgerrin James 5 run (McGuire kick), 6:22 Philadelphia - HB Michael Turner 14 run (Graham kick), 10:30 Washington - McGuire 30 FG, 14:31 Fourth Quarter Philadelphia - WR Santana Moss 22 pass from QB Tom Brady (Graham kick), 8:18 Washington - McGuire 39 FG, 10:00 Philadelphia - HB Michael Turner 20 pass from QB Tom Brady (Graham kick), 13:58 With 1:02 left in the game, QB Tom Brady threw the game winning touchdown to rookie HB Michael Turner to cap a furious comeback. Washington had a 24-14 lead going into the 4th quarter, but their usually stout defense could not hold the Philadelphia offense down. Philadelphia QB Tom Brady did not play particularly well (16/29 196 yards 2 TD 0 Int), but his play in the 4th quarter was the difference in the game. Rookie HB Michael Turner was a dual threat all game, gaining 108 all purpose yards (69 rushing, 39 passing) with 2 TDs. Rookie LB Karlos Dansby paced the Philadelphia defense with his all around play (1 interception, 2 TFLs, 1 QB hurry, 2 run stops, 1 pass deflection). Washington QB Matt Hasselbeck was up and down with some good plays, but his 2 interception hurt badly (17/29 278 yards 2 TD 2 Int). HB Edgerrin James was steady as a rock (18 carries 93 yards 1 TD; 1 catch 22 yards) and newly acquired WR Andre Johnson (4 catches 73 yards 2 TD) caught two early touchdowns to help Washington to a big early lead. On defense, Washington's 4th quarter failures overshadowed a decent effort by the unit, led by rookie S Sean Taylor (1 TFL, 2 run stops, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass deflection), who was all over the field in his 2KFL debut. Offensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia HB Michael Turner Defensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia LB Karlos Dansby

New Jersey QB Brian Griese hopes to shake off the funk of his miserable season last year and for this game, he was great (20/30 312 yards 2 TD 0 Int). He had to be great as the New Jersey running game was putrid (33 yards and 1.4 yards per carry). WR D'Wayne Bates (6 catches 177 yards 1 TD) and rookie WR Lee Evans (8 catches 86 yards 1 TD) torched the Boston secondary all game long. Boston QB Daunte Culpepper played very well (26/41 339 yards 1 TD 0 Int) and HB LaDainian Tomlinson had 2 rushing touchdowns in a losing effort. Offensive Player of the Game - New Jersey QB Brian Griese Defensive Player of the Game - New Jersey LB Bart Scott (1 sack, 1 TFL, 3 run stops, 1 forced fumble)

As long as QB Akili SMith continues to play at an MVP level, they should be ok. Boston will need to prove this season was not a fluke, but they are also set up well for the future with no big free agents potentially leaving. On to 2004!

Culpepper has to play better in the Championship game - Boston DT John Henderson had 2 sacks; Los Angeles LB Julian Peterson had 2 sacks as well This will be the first 2KFL Bowl where either Michigan or Denver will not play. Gonna be interesting to see how these two new teams play with the championship on the line.
