  • Key Players: So C Kevin Smith 9.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg
  • Notes: Below average rebounding team, with just 27.2 rpg

1st Half

A slow start as we couldn't force enough turnovers on MARQ, and we had troubles controlling the defensive rebounds.  It took a good performance by SF Darius Chatman off the bench to get our offense going

Halftime: Up 33-26

5:23, Up 57-50

MARQ remained close.  And they hit a 3 on their last play to come even closer.  Timeout

3:19, Up 61-57

A 3 by SG Louvon Davey relieved some of the pressure.  Teams traded baskets and missed FTs.  MARQ turned the ball over on their last play

1:15, Up 66-59

MARQ had to give up fouls, and we added pts from the FT line to seal the game.

Career Game #211

Jan 2, 2007: #19 Washington (13-0, 2-0) @ USC (6-7, 0-2)

Current streaks

  • 14-game regular season win streak
  • 5-game road win streak

Scouting Report

  • Offense: normal pace, balanced, some freedom, 5 out
  • Defense: m2m, press on occasion
  • Key Players: Sr PG JJ Walace 15,0 ppg
  • Notes: No inside game; in the 1st 2 conference games, SCAL netted a combined total of just 14 pts in the paint

1st Half

A lot of silly turnovers got us off to a slow start, and trailed by as many as 11.  PG Brent Green woke up on the wrong side of the bed throwing away passes, and our season leading scorer SF Lawrence Fox went scoreless with 3 fouls.  Once again, our bench saving the day for us, and scored 35 of our 45 1st half pts

Halftime: Up 45-34

Key stat(s)

  • FG: WASH 53%, SCAL 43%
  • FT: WASH 13-13, SCAL 8-13

Key Players

  • WASH: SF Darius Chatman 10 pts, 2 stls

2nd Half

I had to yank out PG Brent Green to the bench after he committed his 6th turnover.  We were leading by just 10, and then we went on a 13-0 run to open up this game.  We led by 23 with just over 5 mins left, after SCAL went scoreless for almost 7 mins.  That drought took the fight out of SCAL

Current streaks

  • 16-game regular season win streak
  • 6-game road win streak

Scouting Report

  • Offense: normal pace, balanced, some freedom, flex
  • Defense: m2m, press on occasion
  • Key Players: So SG Bryan Jones 11.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg
  • Notes: A very good defensive battle ahead; STAN limits their opponents to 39.6% FG, while we do just a hairline better at 39.0% FG

1st Half

We felt STAN's defense right from the beginning, when we missed our 1st 11 FG attempts; we didn't make our 1st FG until the 12:38 mark.  We got some momentum going towards the end of the 1st half, led by C Lee Martin.  I don't mind about the low shooting percentage, but we need to minimize our turnovers to give ourselves more opportunities to score

Halftime: Up 28-22

Key stat(s)

  • Rebs: WASH 25, STAN 16
  • Turnovers: WASH 9, STAN 8

Key Players

  • WASH: C Lee Martin 12 pts, 7 rebs

2nd Half

We were going mostly inside.  C Lee Martin and C Cory Wethers have 6 pts each, and SF Lawrence Fox scoring 7 of his 10 pts here in the 2nd half, mostly on penetrations

10:40, Up 50-37

STAN momentarily got to within 10, but our defense and FT shooting was consistent enough to hold on for this gritty road win

Career Game #217

Jan 23, 2007: #7 Washington (18-1, 7-1) @ Utah (10-7, 4-4)

Scouting Report

  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Sr C Eddie McPherson 15.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg
  • Notes: We beat UTAH in our last meeting, by forcing them to commit 20 turnovers

1st Half

Slow start for both teams.  Our bench gave us a boost to open up a double digit lead.  Aside from UTAH's turnovers, our rebounding helped us stay in the lead.

Key stat(s)

  • FG: WASH 53%, UTAH 31%
  • Rebs: WASH 23, UTAH 13

Key Players

2nd Half

I am pleased with the aggressiveness of C Lee Martin on offense, collecting a lot of fouls on UTAH's big men; Martin with 13 pts and 7 rebs.

11:09, Up 65-40

I loved the way we responded after coming off a loss.  The rebounding effort shown by the players today is exemplary
