BBCF 2015 and Beyond

Boise State 27 --- San Jose State 3

Well, it was fun while it lasted... The Spartans (1-3) were simply over-matched today, and had no answer for the Boise State (3-1) RB tandem of Ronnie Campbell (90 rushing yards) and Fernando Fischer (177 rushing yards and 2 TDs). While San Jose State got out to an early 3-0 lead, it would be the only time they had the advantage and would go on to lose by a score of 27 to 3. The Broncos defense did an outstanding job of shutting down RB John Moreno, holding him to a measly 49 rushing yards on 21 carries. Other problem for the Spartans was the fact that its O-Line could not protect QB Tony Lima from the swarming Broncos defense; allowing 7 sacks, 7 stuffs, and 5 hurries.Ā  #thisisgoingtobealongseason

did this stop?

Was a tough year and playing the game simply didn't crack the priority list. Just fired up the game for the first time in 7 months, so I will see if I get drawn back into playing.

Week 4: Recap

What a great week of games that did not disappoint. Week 4 featured multiple Top-25 matches, and several surprising upsets. In a battle of ranked teams, the #18 Michigan State Spartans traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the #2 Badgers in the spotlight game of the week. While the Badgers (3-1) were the heavily favored home team, the Spartans (2-2) shocked the crowd with a 27 to 13 victory. The other shocking game of the week saw the unranked University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers (3-0) travel to South Beach and beat the #7 Miami Hurricanes (3-1) 27 to 21.

Week 4: Top 25 Media Poll

The Week 4 poll is out and what a wild week it was. Penn State (4-0) remains in control of the top spot, but the Wisconsin Badgers (3-1) dropped from the #2 spot due to their lose to Michigan State. Filling the void at the #2 spot is Oklahoma (3-1), followed by LSU (3-0), Ohio State (4-0), and USC (2-1). The Washington State Cougars fell out of the Top 25 poll, with the UAB Blazers moving up from #38 to #24 following their shocking win over the Miami Hurricanes. There are three games between ranked teams in Week 5, led by a match-up between Penn State andĀ Michigan State.

Western Michigan Broncos -- 2015 Season & Beyond

Well here it is Labor Day weekend 2025. The college football season has begun and it has sparked my interest in BBCF. MyĀ San Jose State franchise is long gone, so starting over with the Western Michigan Broncos. Not sure what to expect from the team, but hope to put a quality product on the field and hope for the best.Ā

Team Overview

For the 2015 season, the game generated an 8-game Mid-American conference schedule for me. I then took the liberty to schedule 4 non-conference games. The team enters the season unranked, with a recruiting class of 86th and a strength of schedule of 124th. The Broncos start with a lowĀ prestige (35) and are projected to finish 7th in the conference. Despite these challenges, the board believes the team should be "somewhat competitive" this year.Ā

Player Depth Charts

After a spirited training camp, the starting QB nod goes to freshman David Lafleur (1.5 / 2.5 rated). The ground game is led by Eddie Morris (1.0 / 3.5), while the receiving target is Kelley Ricketts (3.5 / 4.0). The defense side of things might be a challenge, and I am really hoping someone steps up and develops quickly.Ā

Preseason Poll

The usual powerhouse names fill the preseason poll list, with Alabama, Oklahoma, and TCU occupying the top 3 spots. The game of the week has the #7 USC Trojans traveling to South Bend to take on the #17 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.Ā

Week 1: Connecticut Huskies vs. Western Michigan Broncos

Week 1 of the 2015 college football season began today, with the Connecticut Huskies of the American Athletic Conference traveling to Kalamazoo, MI to take on the Western Michigan Broncos before the roaring crowd of 17,404 fans at Waldo Stadium.Ā In conjunction with the home opener, the Broncos welcomed 3-star ranked SS Tony Barber to observe the game. Barber is ranked as the 585th overall player in the nation, 24th best SS and 99th in the Midwest region.Ā

While the Broncos were favored by 5 points, the pregame match-up line had theĀ Huskies having the advantage on offense. With the teams tied 10-10 midway through the 3rd quarter, theĀ HuskiesĀ capitalized on favorable field position to notch 2 field goals over the remaining time to top theĀ BroncosĀ by a 16 to 10 score.

The Huskies relied on a strong running attack to prevail in both time of possession (32:26 to 27:34), first downs (20 to 19), and red zone efficiency (4-4 to 1-2).Ā The star performance for the Huskies was RB Scott Turner with 32 carries for 155 yards (4.84 YPC), while RB John Sanchez led the Broncos with 25 carries for 151 yards (6.04 YPC).Ā

Player of the Game: SSĀ Richard Berger (12 tackles, 2 stuffs, 1 pass deflection).

Week 1 Poll

No teams fell out of or moved into the Top-25 Media Poll. In fact, the only real meaningful changes were theĀ Ā USC Trojans (1-0) moving from 7th spot to the 5th spot after beating the then 17th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 24 to 9. The Irish dropped to the 21st spot in the poll.Ā

Week 2 Preview:Ā Western Michigan Broncos vs. San Jose State Spartans

The Week 2 match-up has the Broncos traveling to the west coastĀ  to take on the San Jose StateĀ Spartans. On paper, the Broncos appear to have a decided advantage on offense that, if the defense plays well, lends itself to a potential strong outcome.Ā Ā

Week 2: Western Michigan BroncosĀ vs. San Jose State Spartans

Wow, that was absolutely brutal! The Broncos fell behind early and the Spartans cruised to a 51 to 14 win. To be honest, nothing went right for Western Michigan, as San Jose State dominated on time of possession (34:33 to 25:27), total net yards (494 to 236), and turnovers (2 to 5).Ā  Because I sim the games, I am perplexed why the AI sat RB John Sanchez (151 yards last week, just 8 today) for most of the game. The QB play of Dan Lafleur was rough, going 8 for 19 with 174 yards and 3 interceptions to just 1 touchdown. I guess it didn't help that he was sacked 8 times on the day.Ā

Player of the Game: QB Erik Seymour (18 for 31, 256 passing yards, 4 TD's, 46 rushing yards).
