  1. Bouncer the number of players on your team that you have, and had, on the block that I wanted to trade for even last year. For example Andrew Bernardi. If I was still an SHL team you would have been hearing from me with offers at least. However somehow I got to the GHL. As for my trade block I am just looking for players with 1 year left in return. I don't care too much about quality in return. Just that there is 1 year left remaining in their contract. My rise to the GHL a year earlier than expected has made them depth players that will not match up well to the competition at this level so it makes more sense to me to let someone make more use of them than I can.
  2. Not being able to see the situation it may be that players don't demand more quickly depending upon factors. I would ask for you to check what the greed level is for the players in question. If we are talking about players with low greed it wouldn't surprise me too much for them to be willing to play longer with a cheaper contract. Also how long is the gap between new contract and when they reached 90 overall and their current overall if above 90? It also may be early in the contract that they are in and outside of greedy players it takes a while for them to want a bigger contract. I don't doubt that a 90 overall player would demand a lot in FA. Thus they should demand a similar amount in general. The players you guys are seeing may not have reached the point of wanting a new, bigger contract. It is hard to say exactly what as teams are just reaching the point of seeing 90 overall players. Thus it wouldn't surprise me if some small adjustments are required. However a hasty fix is not a good idea. Investigate and figure out an ideal solution.
  3. The great player will demand more eventually thus, unless there is an issue further into the seasons, it is extremely difficult to "packup" a team. As for the trade you cannot do I can't see it but the "cant do this trade" is there to prevent cheating as well. For example one person taking over two teams and trading all the good players from one to the other for all of the bad players on the other.
  4. Those examples you are referring to are very situational. Goalies are the most common example where that happens but goalies are market driven. If the market is down only elite goalies will likely get a good return and Montreal isn't trading Carey Price any time soon short of another Roy situation. When it is positional players most often it is due to the team trading away the player being too greedy and teams backing out due to that. In reaction the team trading the player makes a last ditch trade deal that is very suboptimal. Most of the time 1 year contracts that are traded are rentals that are an attempt to provide a boost to the team for the remainder of the ongoing season. In those situations if the return isn't there the player simply isn't traded. That being said I love the change you made as it makes a lot of sense. I didn't bother to think about the raise afterwards.
  5. It is a bad contract in terms of player age+length when player skill is also taken into account. Could you imagine a NHL team signing a PA Parenteau, Patrik Berglund or Benoit Puliot like player to a 8 year deal then after 1 year trying to trade him? No other NHL team would want to take him due to the very bad length of the contract for the kind of player he is. The only time a contract longer than 4 or 5 years can and should be seen as good is when it is a top end player and the salary isn't over the top. The player I mentioned is not by any stretch a top player and is at best a good 2nd line option and on top of it he will not grow which makes the very long contract that much less appealing. A 5 year contract for the player I showed should be seen as the extreme high to a good contract. That is why 7 or 8 depending upon how you look at it is a bad contract for that kind of player. Also why are so many 1 year contracts being labeled as bad? 1 year contracts are highly sought after in trades in real life for a reason. My roster example: http://www.gameplanhockey.com/player?gpid=14758 I'm not trying to say this player should have high value in the trade market as he shouldn't but it should not say bad contract situation. It is a 1 year very cheap contract. That is the kind of contract that is coveted in real life trades. All that being said the change to see what changes the value is really nice.
  6. Player trade values need to be worked as it clearly isn't perfect. It is pretty good, especially for a start, but there are players that make you ask how they have that kind of value. First I would suggest a 5th trade value. There is currently poor, average, good and excellent. I would suggest adding something like below average or bad. Average trade value players seem to be more sub par and there are too many excellent. Second there are players with trade values that seriously make you scratch your head. Most players you can understand if not straight up agree however some are still off. http://www.gameplanhockey.com/player?gpid=4127 This is an example of trade value being off. In this case way off. A very bad contract length on a player that wont grow and is only a decent at best player. I got offered him for my best player (http://www.gameplanhockey.com/player?gpid=15334) in a 1 for 1 deal because the former player has excellent trade value. He shouldn't have excellent trade value. No other player like him has excellent trade value that I can find. They are all either bad or average. Also this is obviously a completely unbalanced trade contrary to what the trade value for each player says. A moderately skilled player (75ovr) that wont grow with a bad contract lengthwise for a highly skilled player (80ovr) that definately will continue growing on a very good contract is not a balanced trade in any way.
  7. The only real negative of your team is that the person before you never got rid of a bunch of bad contracts before they left the team. As a result you are almost stuck with them with the way cutting players works now. Outside of that you have a solid, if not older, team.
  8. I'm the manager of the Cedar Rapids Minutemen. I accidently helped Yann Rock turn his Trojans into one of the serious darkhorses in the GHL when he asked for help. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I don't know everything but if you ask canucks I will try to help.
  9. Or resign them to 1 year deals if possible. Glad that feature wasnt around when the game was launched. Getting stuck with a team full of bad players on 7 or 8 year contracts would have been crippling.
