Buzz City | A Charlotte Hornets Dynasty (DDS:PB21)

Recommended Posts

With Draft Day Sports Pro Basketball 21 now in First Access with expected full release in the next couple weeks, I decided it's time for a new dynasty. And since I have a account here now to download the PB21 player pack, figured might as well add some content to this forum, as well. Hopefully I can get this one going longer then my Pacers one last year. Was looking for something different and a team that has never won a NBA Championship. So welcome to my Charlotte Hornets dynasty.

HORNETS ANNOUNCE GM CHANGE

The Charlotte Hornets have not won more then 36 games since they won 48 in the 2015-2016 season. And they have not reached the playoffs since that season, and have only finished with a winning percentage better then .450 one season since then.

The Charlotte Hornets announced today they have parted ways with Mitch Kupchak, who to be fair has only been in that position since April 8th 2018. In his place they have agreed to terms with 40 year old Indiana native Sam Fisher. Fisher played college ball at Indiana State before playing 2 years over in Europe.

“I’m excited for the opportunity” said Fisher at the press conference today, “I have lofty expectations for myself. I want and expect to win to bring Charlotte their first championship.” Fisher wasn’t brave enough to guarantee or promise how soon that will happen. When asked what his first order of business was, he said “getting ready for the draft coming up.”

staff.png?w=300

The pretty much unknown Fisher

The Charlotte Hornets will have the 3rd pick in the upcoming draft. The WSSN mock draft has them taking 19 year old SG Anthony Edwards from Georgia.

mock-draft.png?w=1024

draft-recap.png?w=548

The mock draft ended up being right, as the Charlotte Hornets selected SG Anthony Edwards with the 3rd pick in the 1st round. Edwards will fill a hole the Hornets have at SG, as the Hornets only had 22 year old Malik Monk on the roster. With the 2nd round pick the Hornets selected PF Tyler Bey from Georgia and with the final pick the Hornets selected PF Yoeli Childs from BYU.

The Charlotte Hornets have signed their 3 draft picks. 1st round pick Anthony Edwards signed a 2 year contract, making $6,533,300 year 1 and $7,023,00 for the 2nd year. Tyler Bey and Yoeli Childs both signed 3 year deals. Both will be paid $898,310 for year 1, $934,242 year 2 and $1,503,524 year 3.

They did not offer contracts to unrestricted free agents 28 year old C Bismack Biyombo ($25,500,000 last season), 26 year old C Willy Hernangomez ($2,515,102) and SG 25 year old Dwayne Bacon ($2,427,780). With those contracts still on the books, the Hornets are $10.5 million over the cap.

HORNETS GO WIN LESS IN SUMMER LEAGUE

In what could be a sign of things to come this upcoming season, the Charlotte Hornets go win less in the summer league. The Hornets did give a summer league invite to free agent C Isaac Humphies. Humphies is a 22 year old undrafted Center from the University of Kentucky. He started off the summer league scoring 16 points with 17 rebounds in his opening game. He end the summer league with double digit rebounds in 3 of the 5 games. With the Hornets only having Cody Zeller on the roster, could Humphies be a free agency signing?

HORNETS ADD 2 PLAYERS IN FREE AGENCY

The Charlotte Hornets added a C and are now extremely overloaded at the SF position. First up the Hornets signed 24 year old Chinanu Onauku who played the last 2 seasons in Houston but only played in a total of 6 games across those seasons. “Onuaku is a young guy that has some upside” said GM Sam Fisher, he is expected to be the backup to Cody Zeller. Onauku signed a 3 year contract worth a total of $26.5 million. Onuaku led all of the summer league in scoring, which probably led to the Hornets paying more then what most people think Onuaku is actually worth.

The 2nd free agent signed was 27 year old SF Glenn Robinson III. Robinson signed a 3 year contract worth a total of $19.5 million. That means the Hornets now have 5 small forwards on their roster. Including Robinson, Nicolas Batum (1 year $27M), Miles Bridges (1 year $4M), the Martin twins of Caleb and Cody who each have 2 year contracts with $1.7M each season.

Who stays? Who goes?

In other news, the Hornets have picked up the rookie options for both PF P.J. Washington and SF Miles Bridges.

The Hornets have sent SF’s Caleb and Cody Martin to the G-League Greensboro Swarm as well as rookie PF Tyler Bey.

Inside sources say the Hornets have also contracted every NBA team to see if there any interest in SF Nicolas Batum and his horrendous $27M contract. Of course there were no takers.

It’s finally Opening Tip for the Charlotte Hornets and their new GM. The Hornets will play 4 games this week, starting with a 2 week home stand against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Minnesota Timberwolves before heading on a west coast road trip to take on the Sacramento Kings and LA Lakers, Hornets will finish that west coast swing next week by visiting the Golden State Warrors and Phoenix Suns.

HORNETS SEND FANS HOME HAPPY ON OPENING NIGHT

game-1.png?w=1024

Devonte’ Graham made the statement on why rookie Anthony Edwards shouldn’t see the starting rotation soon, as Graham led the Hornets tonight scoring 21 points in 30 minutes of action. He was 7-14 from the field and 5-10 from beyond the arc. He would add 4 rebounds and 9 assists in the process. Cody Zeller added in 16 points in 31 minutes of action, while grabbing 4 rebounds.

It wasn’t all great for the Hornets though, SF Miles Bridges would injure his foot and will probably miss 5 days. Before the injury he had a great night as well, scoring 14 while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Khris Middleton led the Bucks with scoring 30 points with 3 assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo would grab 11 rebounds with 6 assists, while adding 26 points.

game-2.png?w=800

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HORNETS OUTLAST TIMBERWOLVES 125-106

game-2-1-1.png?w=1024

The Hornets had a bit of a different lineup tonight, as Cody Zeller got injured during practice with a strained abdominal and will miss a few days, expected return is 10/23/20. So free agent signee Chinanu Onuaku got the start and he made the most of it while being named Player Of The Game.

Onuaku would play 27 minutes while going 10-13 from the field, while leading the team in scoring with 21 points. He’d also grab 7 rebounds.

It was a close game through 3 quarters with Hornets leading 90-86. But the Hornets would go on to outscore the Timberwolves 35-20 in the final quarter. With the injury last game to Bridges, rookie Anthony Edwards would get the start and it was one he wants to forget. Edwards would play 21 minutes and score 2 points. He’d go 0-5 from the field and 0-2 from beyond the arc. He’s 2 points would be from going 2-2 from the charity stripe.

D’Angelo Russell led the ‘Wolves with 28 points in 35 minutes of action. He’d also have 11 assists and 6 rebounds. Last seasons 1st overall pick, James Wiseman scored 17 points and 8 grabbed rebounds in 29 minutes of gametime.

game-2-2-1.png?w=1024

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HORNETS TAKE FIRST LOSS OF SEASON TO KINGS

game-3-1.png?w=1024

Forward P.J. Washington led the Hornets in scoring, going 5-11 from the field and 5-10 from the 3 point line to end the night with 15 points, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Devont’ Graham would be only other starter to end up in double digits, scoring 10 points with 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Terry Rozier and Tyler Bey led the Hornets off the bench with scoring 20 and 22 respectively. Rookie Anthony Edwards had another miserable night going 2-5 from the field and 0-3 from beyond the arc for 4 points and a plus minus of -21. He did leave the game with a sore hip and is listed as probable. Terry Rozier was listed with a bruised sternum and is out for the next game.

The Kings got out to a early 13 point lead at the end of the 1st before Charlotte made a comeback to outscore the Kings 28-24 in the 2nd, to go into the half trailing 57-48. But it was all Kings in the 3rd quarter as they would outscore the Hornets 34-19.

De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with scoring 25 points with 11 assists and 4 rebounds. Jahlil Okafor led the bench scoring for the Kings, scoring 11 points with 3 rebounds.

game-3-2.png?w=1024

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MALIK MONK PLAYS SEASON HIGH 43 MINUTES TO LEAD HORNETS

game-4-1.png?w=1024

With the Hornets shuffling the lineup due to some injuries, SG Malik Monk made the most of it, scoring 23 points in his 43 minutes of action. He’d go 10-20 from the field and 3-10 from beyond the arc, while also adding in 5 assists and 4 rebounds. PG Devonte’ Graham would also play his season high of 38 minutes while scoring 24 points. Glen Robinson III would play more then anyone on both teams playing 44 minutes and going 8-17 from the field to score 20 points.

Bright side is Hornets get Rozier and Bridges back for next game, so hopefully coach James Borrego doesn’t plan on his guys playing 43+ minutes too many times this season.

Lebron James would lead all Lakers with 40- points while going 15-30 from the field and 6-16 from beyond the arc. The only other 2 players to score double digits for the Lakers were Caldwell-Pope (11) and Portis (10).

With the win the Hornets move to 3-1 on the young season and 1st place in the Southeast Division.

game-4-2.png?w=1024

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

schedule.png?w=499

Next week the Hornets continue their west coast swing with games vs the Golden State Warriors (4-0, 2-0 Home) and the Phoenix Suns (2-1, 1-0 Home) before coming back to the Spectrum Center to host the Detroit Pistons (0-3, 0-2 Away).

Thanks, New to the forum, trying to figure out best way to post the image and make it full size. Not the tiny thumbnail, so people can read it without having to click anything. Or clicking it and it taking you to imgur. To keep all my dynasty's uniform looking, I normally update them all to my wordpress blog and then take a screenshot and then post to forums. I may just have to link my wordpress site. My lastest blog post for this dynasty can be found here: https://drummerj99.wordpress.com/2020/11/02/2020-21-season-october-18th-24th/

It does post as rich text if you just highlight the whole blog entry on wordpress from html and then paste it in to a new entry here as rich text. You'll lose the entirety of the white background but at least it's not black text on black background.

Never thought about that. After playing around some more I can download DarkReader extension for Chrome and Firefox to turn the background of WordPress black. So think that'll be the easiest way to post updates on here.

Unfortunately due to a hard drive crash (see that's why Steam Cloud Save would be a awesome feature to implement :) lol). I have had to move on from my Charlotte Dynasty I started when 21 first game out. So instead of will be starting over with my home state Pacers.  Hope to start that sometime this weekend.
