2025-2026 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - NBA FINALS (GAME 4)

The Bulls P.J. Washington may have led all scorers with 38 points, but it was Player of the Game, Dejounte Murray, who stole the show. Murray had 29 points, 13 assists, 7 rebounds and 7 steals to lead the Pelicans to victory and stave off elimination. The series now shifts back to Chicago for game five, where the Bulls are certain to be the favorites. Obviously, I'd like to end the series in game five, but in the event that the Pelicans are able to come away with the victory, I've been assured that Brandon Ingram will be able to return to the lineup in a matter of days. Let's hope we don't need him.

2025-2026 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - NBA FINALS (GAME 5)

!!!THE CHICAGO BULLS ARE THE 2024-2025 NBA CHAMPIONS!!!

The Bulls left now doubt who was the best team in the NBA, scoring the opening basket and leading wire-to-wire in a convincing 125-109 victory. Seriously, the game was never close. The Bulls led by as many as twenty points, the game was never tied and New Orleans never once had the lead. It was a truly dominating performance and a fitting end to the season. So...the title is ours...now it's time for me to get to work. Oh, I'll savor this championship for a short while, but Donovan is going to be a free agent at the end of the season if we can't find a way to keep him. It will probably put us over the cap, but coming off an NBA title, I think even cheap ole Jerry Reinsdorf will be willing to open up his pocket book to keep this team together for another year. Besides Donovan, Joe Chealey, Rawle Atkins, Travis Jefferies and Robinson Wilson are all eligible for free agency at the end of the year. Honestly, all I care about is Donovan and I'm going to do pretty much whatever it takes to keep him on the roster.

2025-2026 OFF SEASON REPORT

OWNER MEETING
Jerry was thrilled, but he also didn't pass up an opportunity to mention that I'd spent a little more than we'd agreed upon. Whatever...at the moment we are $4.4 million over the CAP, small price to pay for an NBA Title if you ask me. Jerry probably spends that much on his dry cleaning. Man, this owner is hard to please. I give him three NBA Championship's in seven years and he's still penny pinching. Then again, my job security percentage went from 20% to 100%, so there's that. Anyway, Jerry called me back a few days later and we discussed the up coming season. I told him we were Championship material and that he wouldn't have to pay the luxury tax. He actually seemed okay with that and with the salary cap increase, less free agents, we will head into the new season $19.3 million over the cap and need to sign four bench players. Plus, we will get Oklahoma City's 1st round draft pick, which just happens to be fourth overall.

PLAYER CONTRACTS
Not much to do with player contracts this year, as the vast majority of the team is returning next season. I was able to extend Marcus Donovan's contract following the playoffs. His salary went from $7M to $25.7M with a 7% increase over the next three years. Honestly, for a player of his caliber, that's getting off cheap, because virtually everyone of his peers is currently getting $30+ million a year. I also went ahead and exercised the rookie option on Center Justin McCuthison. That leaves PG Joe Chealey, SG Rawle Atkins, PF Travis Jefferies and SG Robinson Wilson, who will all become free agents at the end of the year.

STAFF CONTRACTS
All four members of the coaching staff have three years remaining on their current contracts.

2026-2027 PRE SEASON REPORT

I'm still basking in the glory of a third NBA Title, the owner is super happy, I have the entire starting lineup returning for next season and my job security has risen to 100%. All is good and it's time to get to work on the repeat. First is the draft...ugh...I never feel good about the draft and I always come away thinking I totally screwed the pooch. We had the 4th pick overall (via OKC) and I had my sights on small forward Terry Rosen. The mock draft had him falling to me with the fourth pick, but he went second overall, so I went with who I thought was the best available, PF Lee Askew. It's possible that I may have taken him too early, but I like his potential. Bosl...I still think he was a good pick at the 30th spot, despite what that idiot J.P. thinks. Harris was the last pick in the draft and I don't think we will retain him on the roster, but we'll retain his rights so that he can go play overseas.

Since I didn't get the small forward that I was looking for during the draft, I reached out to the Celtics and sought a trade for Viktor Florakis. Florakis is only nineteen and played in Greece. He is raw, but has a ton of potential. He won't have an immediate impact, but I think he can be a superstar in the future. Boston must have thought so too, since they picked him with the sixth overall pick. Prying him away from Boston wasn't easy and I gave away a lot to get him, but he is now a Bull. Let's hope I was right about him.

Contract wise, we have our entire starting lineup returning, but Bradely Beal was going to be a free agent at the end of the season. So, I either have to trade him, let him go to free agency or offer an extension. I did the latter. Yes, Beal is thirty-three years old and he's not getting any younger, but he'll save me over $7 million next year and $5 million the following year. Beal will be thirty-seven in the final year of his contract, but I should have his replacement by then, but he'll be a $30 million dollar backup, so I'll probably have to trade before then. I don't normally like to resign players nearing their mid-thirties, but Beal is a very good player and he provides stability to the lineup. Too many times I've been forced to trade away talent because of the financial constraints place by the owner, this time I decided to end that streak and maintain some team continuity. It may cost me in the end, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

Free agency...what to say. Players want insane amounts of money and if your at or over the cap, like we are, your not competing for any real talent. We needed to fill some rosters spots, so I simply waited until there were only a couple days remaining in the draft and picked up some role players. However, since we were already over the cap, I was going to have to get creative and utilize some exceptions to fill out the roster. We desperately needed some depth at shooting guard, so I offered a one year mid-level exception contract to Markelle Fultz and he accepted. Next I offered point guard Spencer Dinwiddie a two-year $6,358,346 to provide experience and depth at point. The Dinwiddie acquisition will also allow me to send both Bosl and possibly Askew or Florakis to the D-League to get some playing time that they would not normally have gotten riding the bench.

In the end we will start the season $30.4 million over the cap, but at least we won't be paying any luxury tax.

DRAFT
Let me just say that J.P. can suck it. You know who I'm talking about. That talking head who critics everyone's pick during the draft. One minute he's blathering on about how Marcus Bosl is the best player still on the board, then the very second after I select him, I should now be fired for doing so. Personally, I can't say I'm entirely thrilled with any of the guys I drafted. I know it was ultimately my decision, but it really makes me wonder just how much I can trust WSSN or even my own staff. Sometimes the draft seems to be a complete crap shoot and I suppose it is in real life, so I'm not complaining, just pontificating on the subject. Truth is, they all look great until you actually draft them. Maybe they'll develop into great players, but this draft seemed more like pin the tail on the donkey...and I'm the donkey.

Lee Askew - PF/Georgia Tech (1st RDPick #4)
Marcus Bosl - PG/UCONN (1st RD/Pick #30)

2026-2027 SEASON - OCTOBER

Good start to the season. We had a few injuries along the way, but nothing too serious. Head Coach Brian Starks has made some changes to the lineup, moving center Justin McCuthison into the starting position. The means Steven Adams has now been relegated to the bench, but so far no complaining from Adams, despite the fact that I know he wants to play. Then again, Adam's is getting around twenty minutes a game. Lee Askew is getting limited time, but I decided to send Viktor Florakis down to the D-League to get some minutes. I still have a high regard for Florakis, I just want him to get some floor time and for the time being, he's not going to get here on the bench.

2026-2027 SEASON - NOVEMBER

Fantastic month of basketball and no one can complain about a 16-4 record. We are currently ranked 7th in offense and 8th in defense. We are the 3rd ranked team in points-per-game and 2nd overall in rebounding. My only concern at this point is Steven Adams. He was relegated to a backup role just before the season started and although they say winning cures all ills, I don't know if he is going to remain happy coming off the bench, despite coach Stein has been providing him with plenty of minutes.

2026-2027 SEASON - DECEMBER

By far this has been the best month of basketball we have ever had during my tenure. Nearly perfect, except for the single loss to the Spurs, but I'm not complaining. We have the best record in the NBA, although we do trail the Hawks and Mavericks in the power rankings. That's actually a little hard to fathom, because we are ranked 1st in the league in points-per-game and rebounds-per-game, plus our offensive rating is 5th and our defensive rating is 2nd overall. No matter, we just keep winning games and that's all that matters. As they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. GO BULLS!

2026-2027 SEASON - JANUARY

What a season this has been so far. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we could win forty plus games by the end of January. Sure, when the season started I had little doubts that we would seriously challenge to repeat as NBA champs, but we are on the verge of one of the greatest seasons in NBA history. Can we top the 2016 Warriors 73-9 record, not likely, but the mere fact that it's still a possibility at this point in the season is astounding to me. Also, the Dallas Mavericks are shredding the league. The Mavs have now won twenty consecutive games and appear to be virtually unstoppable. Can they surpass the Lakers record of 33 straight wins? Probably not, but they are clearly the class of the Western Conference and I would be very surprised if they don't make the NBA finals.

2026-2027 SEASON - FEBRUARY

Well, back-to-back losses to Atlanta and Miami put an end to any discussion on setting the NBA regular season record for wins and losses, but a seventy win season is still possible. We'll have to win eighteen of the next twenty-one games, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. We are still ranked second overall in the power rankings, but we lead the league in points-per-game and rebounds-per-game. We also have the 4th rated offense and 3rd rated defense. Dallas didn't break the 33 consecutive wins record, but they are ranked second in both offensive and defensive ratings, which pretty much explains why they are still atop the NBA power rankings. I know I'm probably going to jinx myself, but I'm predicting the Bulls and Mavericks will meet in the NBA Finals.

2026-2027 SEASON - MARCH

For the first time all season, we were faced with a rash of significant injuries. Marcus Donovan (Strained Knee), P.J. Washington (Sprained Wrist), Lee Askew (Bruised Sternum) and Steven Adams (Sore Arm) all missed considerable time during the month of March. With so many injuries I was forced to call up Viktor Florakis, Marcus Bosl and James Jackson from the D-league. This necessitated the conversion of Jackson's two-way contract to a regular NBA salary. Not the end of the world, but it did slightly increase our team salary for the year.

Ultimately, we finished the month with an outstanding 13-2 record, but that's the good news. The bad news is that Viktor Florakis can be added to the injury report and all of the above named players will miss at least some time in April. Worst of all, Donovan probably won't be back until just before the playoffs. There are six games left in the regular season and we'll need to go 5-1 to get to seventy wins. I'm not very confident we can do it with the current M.A.S.H. unit we currently have, but the schedule isn't terribly difficult...but I'm not holding my breath. Sure, it would be nice to record a seventy win season, but the ultimate goal is the NBA Title and our first order of business is to get healthy for the playoffs.

2026-2027 SEASON - APRIL

What a great season! Although I will admit, coming up one game short of a seventy win season is a little bitter sweet, but we had a lot of injuries to key players down the stretch, so we weren't 100%. Regardless, we have the #1 seed heading into the playoffs and everyone is healthy. We will face off against the Charlotte Hornets in the first round. The Hornets are a mystery rapped in an enigma to me. I really don't understand why that franchise does the things that it does. For instance, Tony Neeser is a 4-Star shooting guard that starts at point; They have a 2.5-Star small forward, Cameron Johnson, who starts at shooting guard; A 3-Star shooting guard, Terence Davis, that starts at small forward and Kendrick Nunn, a 4.5-Star shooting guard who comes off the bench for Cameron?!? It makes no sense to me.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 1)

Not the way I would have liked us to start the first round of playoffs. Charlotte is much better than their record would indicate and they have always been a thorn in our side. The game went back and forth, with twenty-eight lead changes and both teams shot right around 50% from the field, but it was our poor three-point shooting that cost us the game. Your not going to get away with going 8 of 33 from beyond the arc very often and tonight was no exception. The Hornets were simply the better team tonight and we need to play much better. Hopefully this was a wake up call, because this series was never going to be easy.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 2)

This was not a pretty game to watch, but we got the job done and head to Charlotte with the series tied a one game a piece. Statistically speaking, if you just look at our numbers, you probably would not have thought that we could have won the game. We only shot 41% from the field, 15% from three and 71% from the free throw line. During the regular season, you might get away with a poor game, but that is not usually the case in the playoffs. Fortunately for us, the Hornets played even worse, shooting only 37% from the field. I suppose you could make an argument that the two teams were deadlocked in a defensive struggle, but...I was there and I can assure you, it wasn't great defense that led to the low score. Let me just say this, we didn't get 62 rebounds by accident. There were a lot of bricks being laid.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 3)

In 2024 I traded our 2024 1st round pick, 2025 2nd round(WAS) and 2025 2nd round pick to the Houston Rockets for the rights to Justin McCuthison(C/Texas A&M). At the time, a lot of people were questioning that deal, but the McCuthison acquisition is really starting to pay off. McCuthison really blossomed over the off season and he really showed his abilities during the summer league. So much so, that he supplanted Steven Adams as the Bulls starting center. This season he averaged 20 ppg and 12.6 rpg. Last night he proved his worth yet again. McCuthison led all scorers with 29 points and he grabbed 20 rebounds with five blocked shots. McCuthison is only 22 years-old, but he has established himself as one of the league's best big men and we couldn't be happier to have him on the team.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 4)

What do you say after a game like that? We shot 38% from the field, 34% from three and for reasons that currently escape me right now, forgot how to defend. Specifically Tony Neeser. Neeser dropped 42 points on us, with 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Credit to the Hornets though, as they are one of the better defensive teams in the league, but we were cold right from the opening tip and it didn't get much better after that. The Hornets really ramped up their defense in the fourth and Tony Neeser was unstoppable. This is exactly how you get bounced in the first round and we cannot continue to have lackluster performances like this against this team. If we do, we'll be booking tee times and not hotel rooms for the second round.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 5)

We have only lost two home games this season. Once in the regular season to the New Orleans Pelicans back in November and most recently in game one against the Hornets. However, coach Starks had no intention of a repeat performance and the Bulls took control right from the opening tip, built a substantial lead and never looked back. It was a dominating performance and one of those games that can have a carry over effect going into the next game. It's hard for any team to bounce back after getting so thoroughly beaten, but if any team can do it, it's the Hornets. Let's hope that doesn't happen, because I don't want to see this series go seven games.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND  (GAME 6)

Another dominating performance led by Justin McCuthison. McCuthison led all scorers with 27 points, 14 rebounds and was named the player of the game. With the victory we close out the ever dangerous Hornets and now face the Toronto Raptors in the second round. The Raptors have not made the playoffs since 2022, but after acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo in free agency, the Raptors went from 32-50 to 47-35. Simply put, the team lives and dies with Giannis and we'll have to contain him if we are going to advance to the Conference Finals. The Raptors will be a tough opponent for sure, but I think they are less dangerous than the Hornets, simply because the Hornets have more weapons. Regardless, we can't take them lightly.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - SECOND ROUND (GAME 1)

We took our foot off the gas a little in the fourth quarter, but this game was never in doubt. Justin McCuthison scored 35 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and was once again named the player of the game. Toronto's point guard, Monte Morris, had his best game of the season in defeat, scoring 37 points, but Giannis was held to 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. As I said before, Giannis is the key to this team. If you can shut him down, they don't have much else to offer. Not even a career defining game like Morris's could make up for Giannis's lack of production. Let's hope we can continue this trend through the remainder of this series.

2026-2027 SEASON - PLAYOFFS - SECOND ROUND (GAME 2)

Another dominating performance by McCuthison as he scored 34 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and the Bulls easily cruised to a game two victory. One thing that does continue to concern me is the trend of taking their foot off the gas in the final period. I understand we had a big lead, but getting out scored 26-12 is not the way I'd like to see us close out games. However, a win is a win and I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Oh and if your wondering, Giannis was held to 14 points, 14 assists and 4 rebounds in 44 minutes of play. Shut down Giannis and you shut down the Raptors.
