  1. Ashby Shuts Down Braves Andy Ashby pitched 6 and two third strong innings as the San Diego Padres outscored the Atlanta Braves 4 to 1. San Diego drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when they scored 2 runs on 4 hits. That was all the runs Ashby(1-0) needed. San Diego had 9 hits for the night while Atlanta had 3. Ashby got help from Tim Mauser who was credited with his 1st save. Tom Glavine(0-1) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 walks. Boxscore
  2. Celtics Win Streak Reaches 12 For the second straight game the Bulls jumped out to a nice lead on the Celtics only to see it disappear quickly. Two nights ago in Boston Garden the Bulls led by 13 at the half, tonight the Bulls jumped out to a 10 point lead only to lose 114-98. The Celtics are now 15-2 and will travel to Indiana tomorrow to play the 1-18 Pacers. BOXSCORE
  3. 1949 was the last shot for Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky and Dom Dimaggio to get that elusive World Series title. It would be one of the all time great pennant races with the Red Sox finishing just short. The offense is there but the Red Sox could never get quite enough pitching. Could I manage this team to the pennant? It won't be easy especially after what happened on Opening Day. Follow along at 1949 Boston Red Sox Season Replay
  4. John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and Bobby Cox are all enshrined in Cooperstown now but this group of Hall of Famers were only able to win it all once together. That came in 1995. The year before that the Braves made their first appearance in the NL East and found themselves trailing the Expos, but still leading the wildcard race when the strike canceled the season. There are so many questions to answer about 1994 and one of them is could this Braves team have won it all in 1994? We will find out. Opening Day was a successful one for the Braves as Maddux was dominant. Follow along here at the 1994 Atlanta Braves Season Replay
  5. Taking over as GM of the Boston Celtics right after winning it all in 1984 is not a bad gig, the pressure is real though. The Larry Bird Celtics would only win one more title after 1984 while Magic and the Lakers would go on to win three more. It is my job to make sure that doesn't happen. The 1984-85 Celtics are loaded and are looking to repeat. So far, the Celtics have looked like champions while the Lakers are battling injuries. Injuries and age are what brought the Celtics down. Could this new history tilt in the Celtics favor? We are only 16 games into the season. Here is how things look: 1984-1985 NBA Season
