NM can't seem to miss.  We started piling up on our turnovers again

We got a couple of stls.  An 13-4 run to take the lead.  We're in the penalty

  • Notes: UNC shoots 45.6% 3PT

1st Half

Very good interior defense by UNC anchored by C Clarence Simmons.  We need to get more fast break pts in the 2nd half (only 4 in the 1st)

Halftime: Up 28-24

Key stat(s)

  • 3PT: UCLA 2-5, UNC 4-9

Key Players

  • UCLA: C Bruce McCutcheon 7 pts, 3 rebs
  • UNC: C Clarence Simmons, 2 pts, 10 rebs, 6 blks

2nd Half

I was called for a technical partly because of the fouls being called on us, but more out of frustration with the way we are playing.  Our offensive execution started to improve after that technical, but UNC still keeping themselves close

11:47, Up 42-37

SG Mark Pettway and SG TJ Jones have come alive here in the 2nd half, combining for 21 pts.  We are also getting more offense in transition

6:16, Up 60-43

UNC cut down our lead to 10 with 2 mins left.  But we managed the clock well, forcing UNC to give up fouls in the end, and out FT shooting enabled us to hold on for the win

Career Game #499

Dec 13, 2014: #1 Syracuse (9-1)  vs #3 UCLA (9-0)

  • Key Players: Fr Kevin Henderson 25.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg, rank #1 recruit
  • Notes: High powered match up between the 2 of the best scorers in the country, SG Mark Pettway and SYR's SG Kevin Henderson.  Henderson has played 40 mins in 9 of their 10 games

1st Half

SG Mark Pettway struggled early, and missed his 1st 7 shots.  Fortunately, our efforts in the offensive glass kept us in the lead.  We also limited the shooting opportunities of SYR's SG Kevin Henderson, but their big men showed good range from outside and kept them in the game

  • TOs: UCLA 3, SYR 12

Key Players

10:17, Up 60-41

SYR's offensive struggles continued the rest of the 2nd half.  And how quickly SG Mark Pettway can turn things around.  After missing his 1st 7 shots of the game, Pettway made 12 of his next 13, and came with his 2nd triple double in the last 3 games

SG Mark Pettway on fire early, scoring 13 pts in our 19-2 opening run.  But that was just a teaser, as Pettway went on to make his 1st 13 shots, and the rest of the team were making almost every basket from anywhere on the court.  Hands down the best 1st half shooting performance I have seen in my career
