  • Defense: m2m, rarely press

Started the 2nd half on a 10-2 run; C Brandon Braun scored 8 pts during that span.  We led by as many as 24, but DUQ rallied to cut it down to 9 with less than 6 mins left, forcing me to call a time out.  We're in the penalty

5:23: Up 79-70

DUQ could only score a FT in their last 3 possessions.  SG Ron Warley hit a 3 to start a 7-1 run

3:32: Up 86-71

C Bradon Braun scored inside, and hit 2 FTs the following play, to seal the win.  The reserves finished the game.  After only playing 5 mins in the 1st half, Braun has been dominant here in the 2nd half, scoring 23 of his 25 pts

Nov 19, 2000: Delaware St (1-0) @ Utah St (2-0)

  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Sr SG Keith Cole (25 ppg, 69% 3PT)
  • Notes: UTST made 24 3s in 2 games

1st Half

UTST having trouble stopping our inside game, particularly C Brandon Braun, as we raced to an early 17-4 lead.  UTST stayed close by making their outside shots, but we pulled away when our 2nd unit was on the floor.  For the 2nd straight game, we scored 50+ pts in the 1st half

Halftime: Up 52-35

Key stat(s)

  • Pts in the paint: DELST 30, UTST 12
  • Rebounds: DELST 18, UTST 8

Key Players

  • DELST: PF Brandon Braun 26 pts, 6 rebs; SG Kevin Stokes 10 pts off the bench

2nd Half

UTST trying to shoot their way back into this game (8 3s already), but we continue to eat up their interior defense to keep ourselves in control.  C Brandon Braun with 39 pts

10:55: Up 70-54

I momentarily took out C Brandon Braun because of 3 fouls, and UTST able to take advantage.  I had to call a timeout, and bring Braun back in.  We are in the penalty
7:03: Up 70-61

C Brandon Braun and SG Kevin Stokes scored 4 pts each to keep our scoreboard running.  We are leading by 13 with 2:31 left, and it was enough buffer for us to slow down the game and hold on for the win.

UTST's Keith Cole held below his average, 16 pts, 4 3s

  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Fr SG Jermain Frederick 15 ppg
  • Notes: 4 players scoring double figures; both games going to OT

1st Half

It is our inside game vs UTSA's outside offense, and so far we're winning.  We should have been in a much better position had we done a better job in the FT line; 7 missed FTs already.  But I liked the way we were able to keep our turn overs in check

Halftime: Up 38-30

Key stat(s)

  • Fast break pts: DELST 10, UTSA 2
  • Turn overs: DELST 1, UTSA 8

Key Players

  • UTSA: SG Jermaine Frederick 13 pts, 3 3s

2nd Half

We got into foul trouble, including 3 fouls on PF Brandon Braun and has to sit.  Instead of folding, our 3PT shooting came alive and even increased our lead

11:50: Up 56-39

We increased our lead to 22.  UTSA able to reduced it to 13, but a well-rested PF Brandon Braun was consistent towards the end.  SG Ron Warley scored all of 11 pts in the 2nd half.  This has been our best defensive effort so far this season.

UTSA's SG Jermaine Frederick limited to just 5 pts in the 2nd half

Final Score: Texas-San Antonio - 58, Delaware St - 77

  • Defense: m2m, some press
  • Key Players: Jr SF Eddy Flanigan 19.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg
  • Notes: NWST shooting just 38% FG

1st Half

As expected, this is turning out to be a grind-it-out type of game.  Lots of fouls on both sides, but we got the raw end of the deal, with both C Brandon Braun and PG Sidney Petteway having 3 each.  Outside of Braun, the rest of the team shot just 5-20 FG.

Halftime: Down 34-37

Key stat(s)

  • FG shooting: DELST 36%, NWST 41%

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 18 pts, 9 rebs
  • NWST: SF Eddy Flanigan 10 pts, 3 3s

2nd Half

C Brandon Braun dominant early in the 2nd half, but he eventually picked up his 4th foul.  Our other starting big man, C Jamal Swift, also with 4 fouls.  Our offense got stalled, while NWST caught fire from the outside

10:43: Down 46-56

We went down by 15.  Sensing that the game is slipping away, I had no choice but to bring back C Brandon Braun.  Braun tried his best to get us back into the game, but NWST's shooting continues to wax hot.  Still down by 14 with 3 mins left.  Not gonna do it; we didn't make enough stops in the 2nd half

NWST's SF Eddy Flanigan finished with 27 pts, 7-14 3PT

  • Defense: m2m, press at points
  • Key Players: C Owen Doss 7.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg
  • Notes: EKU committing 17.3 topg

1st Half

EKU really wanting this game to be a track fest.  At first we were able to keep up and took advantage of EKU's turn overs.  But our short rotation has taken a toll towards the end of the 1st half and EKU took the lead.  EKU had 7 players scoring at least 4 pts in the 1st half

Halftime: Down 40-44

Key stat(s)

  • FTshooting: DELST 5-9, EKU 13-15
  • Off rebounds: DELST 9, EKU 1

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 14 pts, 7 rebs

2nd Half

C Brandon Braun has scored 12 of our 21 pts in the 2nd half.  But we can't make stops, and EKU still shooting an 63% FG at this stage of the game.  PLus we can't make our FTs; 9 misses already

10:42: Down 61-68

Both teams in the penalty, and we continue to miss from the charity stripe.  But we started to make some stops.

3:44: Down 72-77

Had a chance to cut the deficit down further, but C Brandon Braun missed down low.  On the return play, EKU hits a dagger 3.  Down 8.  SG Kevin Stokes hits a jumper.  Down 6.  EKU awarded a 1-and-1, but missed the front end.  Timeout

2:30: Down 74-80

We ran a play on C Brandon Braun, but he missed again.  Loose ball, last touched by EKU and we retain possession.  This time we go C Jamal Swift, but his kick out pass was stolen.  UKU called for a charge.  Still have a chance.  Timeout

1:44: Down 74-80

One more go with C Brandon Braun on the low post, but he missed for the 3rd straight time, perhaps fatigue setting in.  EKU missed; we get the rebound.  C Jamal Swift drives, had a good look, but the ball rimmed out.  UKU hits a shot, plus a foul.  They made the bonus FT.  Timeout

0:49: Down 74-83

No choice but to go for 3s and foul.  We missed 3 attempts from beyond the arc

Career Game #7

Dec 7, 2000: UMKC (3-4) @ Delaware St (4-2)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: normal pace, balanced, lots of freedom, motion
  • Defense: m2m, press at points
  • Key Players: So SG Chris Cross 18.1 ppg, 44% 3PT
  • Notes: KC not a good rebounding team at 27.7 rpg

1st Half

Atrocious defense, and early turn overs, allowed KC to score 26 pts in the 1st 9 mins;we were down by 10 at that point.  We made some defensive adjustments to slice our deficit, but we definitely need more effort on the defensive end in the 2nd half.  C Brandon Braun just 4-13 FG

Halftime: Down 40-44

Key stat(s)

  • FG shooting: DELST 42%, KC 56%
  • 3PT shooting: DELST 0-5, KC 5-11

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 12 pts, 7 rebs
  • KC: C Juan Felts 13 pts, 4 rebs

2nd Half

C Brandon Braun continues to have difficulty making shots on a consistent basis, just 7-18 FG so far.  SG Kevin Stokes is 1-7 FG.  But we're keeping ourselves close.  We're in the penalty already

11:17: Down 53-57

Refs are not stopping calling fouls on us here in the 2nd half. We turned to our bench, and they did a decent job of hanging on.
6:46: Down 64-67

C Brandon Braun scored 6 pts in a small 8-1 run, enough for us to take the lead.  KC had to take a timeout
4:18: Up 72-68

KC scored their 1st FG in almost 3 mins.  Up 2.  We go back to C Brandon Braun, and he delivered down low.  Up 4.  KC gets a basket, and the 4th foul on Braun.  KC missed the bonus FT.  Up 2.  Over 3 mins left; I'll keep Braun on the floor.  We go to Braun again.  Braun shoots, miss, but he gets the offensive rebound.  2nd serving by Braun, and this time he makes the shot plus a foul!  Braun makes the FT.  Braun has scored 11 of our last 13 pts.
3:20: Up 77-72

KC puts up a 3. It's good!  Timeout
3:07: Up 77-75

KC denying C Brandon Braun to get the ball.  PG Sidney Petteway drives.  Miss, we get an offensive rebound, bt we turned the ball over.  KC can tie or take the lead.  They miss a 3; we get the rebound.  SG Ron Warley puts up a 3.  An ill-advised shot.  Miss.  KC with the possession.  KC misses a 3.  They get another chance with an offensive rebound.  KC missing a jumpshot.  But another rebound by KC.  3rd try.  Miss.  Another rebound.  4th.  Another miss, but another rebound.  They didn't waste their 5th opportunity and scores plus a foul.  They made the FT.  Timeout.  I was mad at the team for letting KC get those rebounds
1:35: Down 77-78

This time, we were able to bring the ball into the hands of C Brandon Braun, who bulldozes his way inside and scores.  Up 1.  KC turns the ball over, their 19th of the game.  Braun defended well, and can't get the ball.  PG Sidney Petteway puts up a 3.  Miss.  We wasted that possession.  Timeout KC
0:42: Up 79-78

We can't have any defensive lapses.  KC puts up a 3 against our double team.  They knock down a 3!  Timeout
0:42: Down 79-81

C Jamal Swift able to make a basket underneath to tie the game.  0:20 left, shot clock is off.  KC not calling a timeout.  Foul called.  I was complaining, but to no avail.  KC's C Juan Felts to take 2 FTs; he's 3-4 FT so far today.  Miss the 1st.  Makes the 2nd.  I call my last timeout
0:13: Down 81-82

KC able to knock the ball away.  Still our ball, but only 0:03 left.  Inbound.  PG Sidney Petteway gets the ball.  No time to set up a low post play, so Petteway puts up a 3 from top of the key.  BANG!  Time expired.  Players collapsed on Petteway at midcourt.  What an exciting escape win!

Career Game #8

Dec 10, 2000: Niagara (2-5) @ Delaware St (5-2)

Perhaps due to the post game celebration in the last game, PG Sidney Petteway suffered a sore hand and will not be available today.  Bummer

Scouting Report

  • Offense: normal pace, balanced, lots of freedom, shuffle
  • Defense: 2-3, press at points
  • Key Players: Sr PG Shamel Huss 8.7 ppg, 3.9 apg
  • Notes: No NIAG player is averaging more than 8.7 ppg

1st Half

1st time to face a team that predominantly uses zone defense.  We shot the ball reasonably well to break their zone.  But the problem again is our defense, allowing NIAG to shoot 57% FG

Halftime: Down 37-44

Key stat(s)

  • FG shooting: DELST 44%, NIAG 57%

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 15 pts, 3 rebs

2nd Half

We can't afford to simply trade baskets with NIAG.  Our 2 PGs we have today have combined for 6 turn overs.  Worst of all, PF Brandon Braun picked up his 4th foul

11:54: Down 49-55

We managed to hit some 3s, and even tied the game at 57.  However, turn overs and our penalty situation has allowed NIAG to establish a lead once again.  I had to bring C Brandon Braun back in
7:57: Down 57-64

Finally, we get a string of stops.  C Brandon Braun scored 5 pts since he returned to the floor.  Both teams in the penalty
5:32: Tied at 64

We extended our current run to 11-0, and take a 4 pt lead.  NIAG broke their silence with a 3.  Up 1.  C Brandon Braun scores once again.  Up 3.  NIAG turns the ball over
3:47: Up 70-67

C Jamal Swift got fouled on the act shooting.  Swift missed both FTs.  But C Brandon Braun was there for the put back!  Up 5.  NIAG scores on a drive.  Up 3.  C Brandon Braun was isolated on the low post.  This should be easy for him, but he was called for steps.  Damn.  NIAG missed a jumper, but they get the off rebound.  Another miss by NIAG, but they get another offensive rebound.  NIAG takes their time.  We got called for a foul.  They hit both FTs.  Timeout.  I am not happy on that last sequence of play
2:23: Up 72-71

We couldn't get a good look.  SF Anthony Jefferson has to put up a hurried with shot clock about to expire.  Miss; rebound by NIAG.  They can take the lead here.  They miss a 3.  And we get the rebound.  TImeout
1:26: Up 72-71

SG Kevin Stokes drives.  He misses.  NIAG with the ball.  NIAG missed.  Another offensive rebound for NIAG.  2nd chance for NIAG.  And this time they score.  Timeout
0:48: Down 72-73

C Jamal Swift takes it strong to the hoop.  Miss, but he got fouled.  Missed the 1st.  Makes the 2nd, his 1st made FT in 4 attempts today.  Tied.  0:37 to go.  NIAG not calling a timeout.  NIAG buries a 3!  I called my last timeout
0:25: Down 73-76

We don't necessarily need a 3.  C Brandon Braun missed on his shot, but there was a foul.  Braun missed the 1st.  And he also missed the 2nd.  SF Anthony Jefferson was there to grab the offensive rebound.  0:10 left.  We have to take the 3 now.  SF Anthony Jefferson takes a 3.  Miss.  NIAG rebounds and was able to dribble the time away.  A sorry home loss

Career Game #9

Dec 14, 2000: Milwaukee (4-2) @ Delaware St (5-3)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: fast pace, balanced, some freedom, motion
  • Defense: m2m, press at points
  • Key Players: Fr C Tommy Lutz 11.7 ppg, 7.5 rpg
  • Notes: UWMIL on a 4-game win streak, averaging almost 80 ppg during that span

1st Half

C Brandon Braun scored 23 of our 1st 26 pts.  Our defense was holding its own during the 1st 12 mins of the game, and we're ahead by 12.  I took out Braun for a brief rest, and that's when things started to go downhill for us.  UWMIL went on a 17-0 run, before we slightly recovered towards the end of the 1st half

Halftime: Down 39-42

Key stat(s)

  • Turn overs: DELST 9, MIL 4

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 25 pts, 10 rebs

2nd Half

We're having difficulty making stops once again.  C Brandon Braun's monster game just enough to keep us close.  We finally regained on the latest play, a successful drive by SF Anthony Jefferson

13:33: Up 55-53

Game remained close the past 6 mins; we never led by more than 4
7:30: Up 63-61

SG Kevin Stokes, who has been scoreless so far up to this point, scored 6 straight pts (a 3pt play, and a 3pt shot), which started an 10-4 run, and extended our lead to 8.  UWMIL hit 2 FTs to cut it down to 6
3:39: Up 73-67

PG Sidney Petteway hits a big 3.  Up 9.  We forced UWMIL to a turn over.  However we missed on our next play.  UWMIL scores,  Timeout.  Far from over
2:29: Up 76-69

C Brandon Braun, who must be very tired now, had 3 shots and 2 offensive rebounds on our next play.  He got fouled on his 3rd attempt.  Braun missed both, but C Jamal Swift was there to grab the offensive rebound.  We give it back to Braun, and Braun missing again.  Tough break.  NIAG with possession.  Traveling.  Timeout
1:34: Up 76-69

SG Kevin Stokes puts up a 3, and its good! Up 10.  UWMIL missed a 3.  We slowed down.  UWMIL will have to give up fouls.  We made 3 more FTs to seal the game, which made the last 2 3s by UWMIL moot and academic.  We did a good job in taking care of the ball in the 2nd half with just 2 turn overs, after committing 9 during the 1st.

Career Game #12

Start of conference games

Dec 31, 2000: Delaware St (8-3, 0-0) @ Coppin St (5-6, 0-0)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: fast pace, balanced, some freedom, traingle
  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Jr PG Anthony Drayton 16.2 ppg (3rd in MEAC), 4.1 rpg
  • Notes: CSC giving up almost 73 opp ppg

1st Half

Poor shooting; even C Brandon Braun shot just 4-11 FG.  CSC was just making shots everywhere

Halftime: Down 31-42

Key stat(s)

  • FG: DELST 34%, CSC 50%
  • 3PT: DELST 4-10, CSC 7-12

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 13 pts, 7 rebs
  • CSC: PG Tony Willias 14 pts, 4 3s

2nd Half

Nothing going right.  We even got into the penalty less than 4 mins into the 2nd half.  C Brandon Braun has 4 fouls, but he remains on the floor; PG Sidney Petteway also with 4.  Braun is the only one keeping us in this game, scoring 14 of our 16 pts in the 2nd half

14:13: Down 47-52

We cut down our deficit to 3.  We just want to keep close, and hope C Brandon Braun does not pick up his 5th.  On our last play, C Brandon converted a 3pt play opportunity, and we finally get a taste of the lead.
9:41: Up 59-58

It has been a see-saw game since.  PG Sidney Petteway just fouled out.  Both teams in the penalty
5:50: Tied at 67

We scored 3 inside baskets and added 2 FTs, while CSC able to score just 3 FTs.
3:57: Up 75-70

Teams traded turn overs.  On our next possession, C Brandon Braun missed on his shot, but he got the offensive rebound and the put back is good,  Braun makes the bonus FT.  Braun's current endurance is less than 50; he just needs to hang in there.
3:16: Up 78-70

CSC missing a 3.  C Jamal Taylor scores inside.  Up 10.  We get a steal, and Taylor was ahead on the break for the slam!  Up 12.  CSC makes 2 FTs the next play.  Timeout.  Everyone is exhausted
2:16: Up 82-72

C Brandon Braun scores again inside.  That should probably do it.  Up 12.  CSC hits a 2.  Up 10.  1:43 left.  We slowed down to waste some time.  CSC made 2 late 3s, but didn't affect the outcome.  A great come from behind road win, after being down by 16.  We played better perimeter defense in the 2nd half.

1st Half

FLAM clogging down the interior, but we made enough outside shots to keep their defense guessing.  A very good 1st half for SG Lewis Lepore.  FLAM's SG Clinton Price struggled with his shooting, 4 pts and 2-10 FG

Career Game #14

Current streaks on the line:

  • 5 game win streak

Jan 7, 2001: Delaware St (10-3, 2-0) @ Bethune-Cookman (5-8, 0-2)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: normal pace, inside, not many freedom, 5-out
  • Defense: 2-3, press at points
  • Key Players: Sr PG Virgil Mason 15.5 ppg
  • Notes: BETH averaging just 55 ppg in their current 3-game losing streak

1st Half

We were adapt on every defensive adjustment BETH made.  When they went m2m early in the game, our big men took the ball inside.  When BETH went to their usual 2-3 zone, we were able to make our outside shots.  It didn't matter that C Brandon Braun only 6 pts, as the rest of the team able to step up

Halftime: Up 44-25

Key stat(s)

  • 3PT: DELST 6-8, BETH 0-2

Key Players

  • DELST: C Jamal Swift 12 pts, 5 rebs

2nd Half

C Brandon Braun asserting himself more here in the 2nd half, scoring 10 of his 16 pts.  However, we got into penalty early, and it has helped BETH chop off some of our lead.

10:08: Up 62-52

Good thing we're shooting the ball well, to somehow counter all those FTs being given to BETH; 23-25 FT so far for BETH

4:58: Up 72-64

Both teams could only add a FT to the score line.  BETH just committed a turn over.  Still Up 8.  C Brandon Braun got blocked, but C Jamal Swift able to pick up the loose ball, and scored underneath.
2:24, Up 75-65

Both our starting and back up PGs have fouled out.  BETH made 2 more FTs.  Timeout

2:14, Up 75-67

No time to relax.  SG Lewis Lepore hits a dagger 3, and we're up by 11.  All 5 players we have on the floor have scored in double figures.  BETH looking for a 3, but we're not giving them good looks.  Shot clock just about to expire when they force one from deep, and it goes in!  Only the 2nd triple for BETH today.  Timeout

1:04, Up 78-70

BETH gave up 2 fouls, but they are not yet in the penalty.  On the reset, we turned the ball over, something we don't need at this point.  Timeout BETH

0:50, Up 78-70

Foul called on us.  BETH made 2 FTs.  Just a 2 possession game.  This is not over.  Timeout

0:43, Up 78-72

BETH gave up a quick foul.  BETH in penalty now.  SG Kevin Stokes made 2 FTs.  Up 8.  We just need to play honest defense without giving up a foul.  BETH shoots a 3.  It's in again.  Up 5.  Another quick foul by BETH.  SG Lewis Lepore at the line and he made both FTs.

0:26: Up 82-75

BETH made another 3!  Wow.  BETH was 1-9 3PT, before they made their last 3 shots from downtown.  Up 4.  Another foul by BETH.  SG Lewis Lepore back to the line, and he calmly sinks both.  Up 6.  0:11 left.  BETH made their 4th consecutive triple!  But time has run out, and we escape BETH's sudden hot shooting.  If there was a minute left on the clock, they might have completed their comeback.

Career Game #15

Current streaks on the line:

  • 6 game win streak

Jan 11, 2001: Delaware St (11-3, 3-0) @ Howard (8-6, 1-2)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: slow pace, balanced, not many freedom, 5-out
  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Sr SG Terrence Armstead 13.9 ppg
  • Notes: HOW with at least 4 guards shooting over 40% 3PT

1st Half

We expected HOW's guards to be the focus of their offense, but their 2 big men (both 7 footers, 300+ lbs) proved to be too much too handle, combining for 12 pts and taking up lots of space inside.  Took a while before we grab the lead in this relatively low scoring affair.  Both teams shooting below 40% FG

Halftime: Up 32-29

Key stat(s)

  • 3PT: DELST 1-7, HOW 3-9
  • Fast break pts: DELST 10, HOW 6

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 14 pts, 5 rebs

2nd Half

Our half court offense and outside shooting still absent, 1-11 3PT.  We managed to stay on the lead by getting some easy baskets on the break.

10:55: Up 44-41

Shooting is still off; actually on both sides, which is probably the reason why we are still on the lead.  C Brandon Braun just picked up his 4th foul, giving me a tough decision.  I decided to put him in the bench for a few minutes.  We're in the penalty

6:35: Up 48-45

We went to a smaller lineup (1 PG, 2 SG, 1 SF, 1 C).  All of a sudden, we made 3 jump shots, including a pair of 3s.  HOW kept close though
4:24, Up 56-52

C Brandon Braun still on the bench.  We hit another 3!  Up 7.  HOW making another of FTs.  Up 5.  We missed on a drive.  HOW missed a 3; that would have been huge.  HOW finally got into penalty, but we missed the front end of a 1-and-1.  We have missed 9 FTs so far.  HOW with a turn over.  Timeout

2:19, Up 59-54

I bring back C Brandon Braun, and we immediately go to him. Braun's shot got blocked.  HOW with the ball.  We get the ball back with a steal.  Counter steal by HOW!  HOW missed on their attempt.  Crazy sequence so far.  Timeout

1:15, Up 59-54

I went back with a bigger lineup for rebounding purposes.  SG Kevin Stokes called for traveling.  HOW gets another chance, but they threw the ball away.  A basket here would be huge.  PG Sidney Petteway drives.  Miss.  Loose ball.  We retain possession.  I have 2 timeouts left, and I decided to use 1 of them

0:45, Up 59-54

HOW gives up a foul.  PG Sidney Petteway splits.  C Brandon Braun gets the offensive rebound.  Braun missing the follow up.  But C Jamal Swift grabs the offensive rebound this time around.  Swift missed the put back, but got fouled.  We just need 1 FT to give us a 3 possession game, and most likely seal the win.  Swift makes the 1st, and missed the 2nd.  Up 7.  Timeout HOW

0:33, Up 61-54

We traded 2 FTs each.  I told the team we don't need to foul.  HOW missing a 3, and that ended any hopes on their side.  We won because of our defense, which is rarity, but we'll take it

Final Score: Delaware St - 63, Howard - 56

Career Game #16

Current streaks on the line:

  • 7 game win streak
  • 4 game home win streak

Jan 14, 2001: Lipscomb (9-6, 3-1) @ Delaware St (12-3, 4-0)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: slow pace, balanced, not many freedom, 5-out
  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Fr PG Linton McKenzie 12.9 ppg
  • Notes: McKenzie is listed at 88%, so we're not sure if he's going to suit up today for LIPS

1st Half

LIPS PG Linton McKenzie did not start, but came off the bench to score 12 pts.  We took advantage of our inside game as usual, but LIPS didn't do bad either on their offense

Halftime: Up 41-32

Key stat(s)

  • FG: DELST 59%, LIPS 50%
  • Turn overs: DELST 6, LIPS 10

Key Players

  • DELST: C Brandon Braun 16 pts, 3 rebs

2nd Half

LIPS has shot better than us here in the 2nd half, and slowly but surely knocking on the doors now

9:49: Up 53-49

SG Kevin Stokes scored 8 pts in an 11-0, to bring back our lead to a more comfortable 15 pts.  LIPS has been nailed at 49 for quite some time.

5:53: Up 64-49

SG Kevin Stokes added 5 more pts to counter the 2 3s made by LIPS.  We were still leading by 14 with 2:37 left. Both teams in the penalty.  C Brandon Braun converted a 3pt play to give us a 17 pt advantage.  Although LIPS converted a couple of triples, we managed the clock well in the end game and held on for the win

Final Score: Lipscomb - 61, Delaware St - 72

Career Game #17

Current streaks on the line:

  • 8 game win streak
  • 5 game conference win streak
  • 3 game road win streak

Jan 18, 2001: Delaware St (13-3, 5-0) @ Belmont (5-11, 1-4)

Scouting Report

  • Offense: fast pace, balanced, lots of freedom, motion
  • Defense: m2m, rarely press
  • Key Players: Fr SF Jaquay Young  11.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg
  • Notes: BEL without their 2nd leading scorer,
  • McKenzie is listed at 88%, so we're not sure if he's going to suit up today for LIPS

1st Half

Exciting up and down game.  Almost identical shooting and rebounding, but the difference has been our turn overs.  Also, C Brandon Braun didn't get too many touches,.

Halftime: Down 37-42

Key stat(s)

  • Turn overs: DELST 8, BEL 4

Key Players

  • DELST: SF Anthony Jefferson 10 pts, 4-5 FG
  • BEL: SF Jaquay Young 9 pts, 6 rebs

2nd Half

We're getting more success now on our inside plays, but our FT shooting has impeded our progress; just 11-22 FT so far.  LIPS has hit 5 3s in the 2nd half

10:38: Down 57-63

We added 3 more turn overs.  This game is slowly slipping away.  We have to make a run now

5:55: Down 63-72

We went with a smaller lineup.  We still can't make stops.  Down by 16 with 2 mins left.  Not gonna do it with the way we're playing; I pulled off my starters.  This was a beat down.

Final Score: Delaware St 67, Belmont - 88

TOs: +5

Post game observations

  • (+): Still a decent offensive output for us, including 6-15 3PT.  But offense wasn't the problem today
  • (-): We had games before where our high scoring offense often masked our poor defense.  That wasn't the case today, as our primary weakness on making stops was exposed today.
