2014 Season - BL Final Standings August, or New Mexico's Collapse New Mexico – August Schedule A brutal slate to start the month with Oakland and Minneapolis. Both teams dominated the Suns throughout the season, and, while New Mexico was in contention for a playoff spot going into August, losing those two series made that dream impossible. The next goal was to hold on for the right to play in the Beta Cup tournament. However, the Suns could never find their stroke, going 5-14 in the month and dropping into 8th place. Now the battle for survival is on. On the bright side, the Suns have home-field advantage through the Beta Survivors Cup tournament, but any bad two-game stretch means a trip to the Gamma League in 2015. New Mexico – Team Page Standings Tie Breakers Montreal and Minneapolis shared the division crown. However, the Saints won the season series, seven games to five. There can be only one; therefore, … Pennant Winner Montreal is one of those teams that sneaks its way into a league pennant. With only the sixth best offense and the third best pitching staff, the Saints barely edged teams when they won and got blown out a few too many times. However, they have earned their spot into the Alpha League in 2015 and get to challenge for a plethora of other banners in the meantime. What Ifs The biggest “what if” belongs to the Blizzard, who entered the final day of the season a game in first place. All Minneapolis had to do in the final game was to beat Charlotte or hope for a Montreal loss. Instead, the Blizzard fell to Flyers, 10-3, and the Saints edged Buffalo, 5-3. 2014 Season - GL Final Standings Standings Pennant Winners Denver cruised to win the pennant with a 12-game edge over second place Washington. Francisco Liriano lit up opposing batters, posting a 13-3 record with a league-leading 1.83 ERA. Danny Duffy was the wins leader (16-5, 2.38 ERA) for the Gamma League's top pitching staff. Craig Kimbrel was a shutdown closer, posting 40 saves on the season. On offense, the Peaks were led by middle of the lineup power from 1B Ruben Aguilera (.258, 28 HR, 83 RBI) and catcher Kidlat Escobal (.282, 22 HR, 79 RBI) and lots of speed on the base paths, including 40 steals from CF Ezequiel Carrera. Tie Breakers The Chicago Brats won the season series over Honolulu, seven games to five, giving them fifth place and a better match up over the Tropics in the first round of the Gamma Cup. What Ifs Utah finished a game behind Washington, meaning they were out of the battle for the Silver Cup and without an automatic promotion to the Beta League. Part of the reason they missed out was because of an early August match up against the Presidents, where Washington took two of three, helping to seal the second place finish. Now, the Mustangs have to battle with Philadelphia, Chicago, and Honolulu for two promotion spots in the Gamma Cup. 2014 Season - OL Final Standings Standings Pennant Winners A definite step above most of the Omega League, the Buzzards had fallen hard in recent years from their original perch in the Beta League. However, San Antonio used both offense and defense to set themselves apart from the rest of the league. Led offensively by the dynamic hitting of catcher Carlos Santana (.299, 33 HR, 84 RBI) and 1B Anthony Rizzo (.305, 21 HR, 65 RBI), the Buzzards finished as the second rated offense. Not to be outdone, the 1-2 punch of Clayton Kershaw (13-6, 2.70 ERA) and Brian Matusz (13-6, 2.39 ERA) led San Antonio to the best pitching staff in the league. Tie Breakers Louisville was the 10th seed due to a 10-2 head-to-head advantage over Boston. What Ifs Had Atlanta won their final game or had Orlando lost, the Blazers would have won the season tie breaker over the Rockets for the right to play for the Bronze Trophy and gain automatic promotion in 2015 to the Gamma League. Instead, Atlanta now has to battle seven other teams for three spots into the Gamma League in the last year of mass promotion. Boston may have changed its team nickname from the Nighthawks to the Hawks, but they found little daylight on the 2014 season. Finishing in a tie for tenth place with Louisville, the Hawks were unfortunate to finish tied with the team they struggled most against. Still, had the Hawks not lost a late-season game against Edmonton (1-0 final), Boston would be fighting for a promotion chance. Instead, the Hawks, along with Indianapolis, must sit out the 2014 postseason. Hopefully ace C.C. Sabathia doesn't smash up some $%#@ this time. 2014 - July AL Standings Batter of the Month Yasiel Puig Named Best AL Batter in July: When Yasiel Puig stepped up to the plate in July, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Alpha League Batter of the Month award. The young San Diego right fielder posted a .406 batting average with 10 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 25 runs. Puig also worked pitchers for 7 walks to post a .436 on-base percentage. So far on the season Puig is hitting .360 with 30 home runs, 78 RBIs and 74 runs scored. He has 143 hits and played in 103 games. Pitcher of the Month Weijman Best AL Starter in July: Virginia Beach starter Wietze Weijman really put the chill on opposing teams in July and today was acclaimed the Alpha League Pitcher of the Month. He excelled with a 5-1 mark and 1.31 ERA in 6 starts. In 48 innings, he fanned 43 and walked 10. Season-to-date Weijman has rung up 12 wins and 7 losses in 23 appearances. He has an ERA of 2.41 and has fanned 154 batters in 156.2 innings. 2014 Season - July BL Standings Batter of the Month Beta League Selects July's Best Batter: Brett Lawrie relied on a .387 average to become the Beta League Batter of the Month. He had a good July, going 43 for 111. He finished with 4 home runs and 19 RBIs, scored 24 runs, and had a .465 on-base percentage. This season Lawrie has 10 home runs and a .304 batting average. Pitcher of the Month Best Starter Chosen by Beta League: Whether Peter Martin stays in Oakland beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In July the 32-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Beta League Pitcher of the Month award. He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-1 record and and an ERA of 0.86. 2014 Season - July GL Standings Batter of the Month Cheung Takes Best Bat Award in July: Philadelphia first baseman Yeow-whye Cheung took home the Gamma League Batter of the Month Trophy for July. He put up some solid numbers, including a .319 batting average and .376 on-base percentage with 36 hits, 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Posting a .310 batting average to date, Cheung has 40 home runs and 105 RBIs. Pitcher of the Month Denver's Kimbrel GL Top Pitcher: Denver Peaks fans lauded the selection of reliever Craig Kimbrel as Gamma League Pitcher of the Month for July. The 26-year-old hurler was nothing short of masterful, holding enemy hitters to a .151 average. In 16 relief appearances he put up a 2-1 record, 12 saves, 27 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.76 over 15.1 innings. This season Kimbrel has notched 33 saves. 2014 Season - July OL Standings Batter of the Month Omega League Picks July's Best Batter: Today Pittsburgh's Colby Rasmus was named the Omega League Batter of the Month for July. He punished OL hurlers hard all month long, collecting 33 hits in 85 at-bats. With a .388 batting average, 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs scored, he was an easy choice. Rasmus is currently batting .275 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs. Pitcher of the Month Sabathia Earns OL's Best Pitcher Honor: Veteran CC Sabathia put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Boston Hawks, earning himself the Omega League Pitcher of the Month award. Turn and face the strange: Ch-ch-changesI tried to post the complete month of June without it working or letting me retrieve it. Sucks for me. The part I hate most about dynasty reports is all of the photobucket grabs and such, which looks to be what I will have to do again to continue my dynasty posts. With that said, being the GM of the Suns has severely slowed down this dynasty. I'm excited to see who wins tournaments and making banners for the winners, so I am going to change the direction of my dynasty again following the 2014 season. I prefer to be the commissioner and be able to look in on all squads equally. Being the GM of a team narrows my focus and makes everything too cumbersome. Thus, my first person GM character is moving into the association's front office after one season as GM of the Suns so that I can focus on the fun parts of this particular dynasty. I'll do my GMing offline from now on where I can fail in secrecy. Now, to repost June standings and top players. Scratch that. Don't feel like fighting with my browser, so standings and a few news and notes about the Suns. Going to try to speed things up and sim through the remainder of the regular season to see how it feels to run a team in the postseason, even if they are only battling for survival.

CBA Announces Changes for 2015 May 25, 2014 The Champions Baseball Association has announced that it will change its promotion and relegation system for its sixth year, allowing more establishment in the young leagues. Beginning in 2015, at least one fewer team will be promoted and relegated per league. With the system in place now, a large number of teams move up and down each season, with the Gamma League having the most movement of nine of 12 teams moving either up or down each season. Starting next year, they will still lead, but will only have six of 12 teams moving up or down. The 2015 promotion/relegation system will thus change to the following: * The Alpha League will relegate three teams per season. * The Beta League will promote three teams and relegate three teams. * The Gamma League will promote three teams and relegate three teams. * The Omega League will promote three teams. The changes make moving up or down more complicated, and it also increases the chances of a team in the Omega League of being forced to relocate. Currently, the Edmonton Freeze and Baltimore Bullets are the only two teams in position to be forced to relocate. The relocation rule states that any team in the Omega League for five consecutive seasons without being promoted is forced to relocate to a waiting franchise location with ownership handed over, also. The playoff systems have changed also because of the promotion and relegation changes. One of the cups, the Gamma Survivors Cup has been eliminated. For starters, the Tournament of Champions Bowl will now have an additional four teams, with the Alpha sending its top five regular season teams, the Beta League sending its top four teams, the Gamma League sending its top three teams, and the Omega sending its top two teams. Like before, the teams will be seeded from highest regular season record per league, meaning the Alpha League’s pennant winner will have the highest seed, and the next four teams in the Alpha will have seeds two through five. Then the Beta League pennant winner will be the sixth seed through the fourth place team receiving the ninth seed. The Gamma League pennant winner will receive the tenth seed, with the other two teams having the eleventh and twelfth seeds. Finally, the Omega League pennant winner and runner-up will have seeds thirteen and fourteen. The Beta League’s playoff format, the battle for the Gold Trophy, will now include four teams. The losers of the first round will then battle for the right to be promoted in a five-game series with the winner moving into the Alpha League the following season. Also, the Beta Cup will now be an eight-team double elimination series tournament. The winner of the entire tournament will hold the Beta Cup Trophy, while there will also be a Survivors Cup series for the right to remain in the Beta League. Series lengths will vary. In the Gamma League, the top three teams now will battle for the Silver Trophy. All three teams are automatically promoted to the Beta League for the following season. That means the Gamma Cup and Survivors Cup have been combined for one grand survival tournament. The nine-team field will feature a play-in game between the bottom two seeds, with the loser being relegated. The remaining eight teams then battle in a double elimination tournament, with the final team earning the Gamma Cup. Two more teams will be eliminated in the tournament to become the other two relegated teams. The Omega League will still have an eight-team Omega Cup battle with seeds three through ten battling it out for promotion, with two changes. The first is that the tournament has also become double elimination. Also, only the Omega Cup winners can be promoted, unlike in the past where three participants in the tournament would be promoted. There is talk of possibly expanding leagues by two teams each in the future, bringing the total number of franchises in the league to 56. That is something the commissioner’s office has on the table, but there has yet to be any long-term plans added. It is possible, according to a source in the commissioner’s office, that the league may expand slowly, with the Omega League at first adding two teams, and eventually jumping more teams up into higher leagues as more expansion possibilities occur. None of these changes are expected to occur in 2015.

2014 Season - May AL Standings Players of the Month AL's #1 Starter is Zimmermann: An outstanding 6-0 record in May earned Jordan M Zimmermann the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Alpha League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Dallas lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams. In 45 innings of work, Zimmermann limited opposing batters to 28 base hits and a .174 batting average. He notched 38 strikeouts, issued 5 walks and had a 1.00 ERA. So far this season, Zimmermann has logged a 9-2 record with a 1.91 ERA. He has started 12 games, hurled 84.2 innings and registered 68 strikeouts and 10 walks. May's Best Batter Announced: A hot-hitting Carlos Quentin punished AL pitchers in May, hitting .380 in 28 games while racking up 13 home runs, 29 RBIs and 20 runs scored. With those numbers it came as no surprise that New Orleans's 31-year-old right fielder earned Alpha League Batter of the Month honors. Quentin is batting .316 with 19 home runs and 52 RBIs this season. BL Standings Players of the Month Beers Starter Named May's Premier Pitcher: Rodrigo Hernández hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Beta League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In May the Milwaukee starter earned a 6-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 42.2 innings, struck out 36 and compiled a solid 1.27 ERA. To date this season, Hernández has a record of 9 wins and 1 loss and a 1.47 ERA. He has appeared in 12 games and struck out 80 in 85.2 innings. Torrid May Gets Teixeira BL #1 Batter Trophy: Mark Teixeira was declared the Beta League Batter of the Month today. Minneapolis's first baseman stroked 39 hits in 104 at-bats for a .375 average in May. He also hit 12 home runs, drove in 34 and scored 24 runs. Teixeira is hitting .324 this year with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .392, 20 walks and scored 43 times. GL Standings Players of the Month Duffy Earns GL's Best Pitcher Honor: Denver's Danny Duffy has made fans throughout Gamma League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 6-0 record. No pitcher in the Gamma League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 6 starts Duffy compiled a 1.06 ERA, putting up a 6-0 record, striking out 43 and tossing 42.1 innings. To date this year in 12 starts, Duffy has crafted a 10-2 mark with a 1.62 ERA. The 26-year-old Buzzards starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 5-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 39 batters in 43.2 innings and compiled a 2.27 ERA. This year Cahill has compiled a 7-2 mark with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts. Louisville's Ortiz Bags OL Batting Award: David Ortiz is in the final year of his contract with Louisville and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 29 games in May the 38-year-old first baseman ripped Omega League pitchers for a .330 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award. He also rang up 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 21 runs scored. If Ortiz keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money. This year Ortiz is hitting .342, produced 41 RBIs and 14 home runs, scored 36 times and gotten on base at a .416 rate.

New Player FeatureMatt Harvey, SP With a promising young catcher like Kien Chan on the roster, you would think the Suns would be content with the future at that position. But what the Suns had in talent at catcher, they had way less talent in the starting pitching rotation. That is why New Mexico traded for Matt Harvey. The former Charlotte Pilots pitcher did not have a great record in his first two years in the league, but what he did have was an ability to keep game scores down, allowing the bullpen to hold it or lose it. Before joining the Suns, Harvey was 4-2 with a 4.16 ERA with the Pilots, but the Suns' management team is expecting bigger things from him in Albuquerque.

New Player FeatureJose Alaniz, 1BThe former Kansas City Sting first baseman signed on with New Mexico after his time in Kansas City was done. The 32-year-old Venezuelan played for the Sting for four years. Before that, he was a player in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League with the Tigres de Aragua before trying his luck in America in the newly-formed league. In the Champions Association, he has had decent success. Last season as the full-time starter, Alaniz played every game for the Beta pennant winners and Gold Trophy winners. Alaniz had a career-high .303 batting average and RBI total of 19 and tied his career high with 19 home runs. This season Alaniz may share some of the first base duties with Justin Smoak, though Alaniz is expected to get the majority of the starts. Batting Stats Pitching Stats
