Modifying Schedules in XML Files

For the independent teams in particular, I'm looking to remove the future opponents (as set out in the modpack). Would the game fill in opponents for them if I clear out the XML file, or will that mess with the scheduling, particularly for the first season?

The game will create the opponents for you so no issue in clearing the xml files
