-  With :16 left on the clock in the 4th quarter, QB Matt Hasselbeck was able to drive his team to the Philadelphia 2 yard line with no timeouts left.  Upon the snap,   Hasselbeck rolled out to the left and surveyed the field.  WR Chad Johnson started out in the right slot and ran his route across the line of scrimmage, breaking free of the bodies and headed to the back left endzone pylon WIDE OPEN.  Right when Hasselbeck saw Johnson break for the endzone, Philadelphia CB Damon Moore, who was chasing the quarterback, sacks Hasselbeck right when the quarterback was cocking back to throw the game winning touchdown.  Game over. Amazing sequence.

-  What a turnaround by Philadelphia. For the first time, they have a record of .500 and are really operating well as a team. That is a huge difference from the prior 3 years.

-  Philadelphia G Steve Hutchinson (1 sack allowed, 1 QB hit allowed, 1 penalty) struggled mightily going against Washington DT Corey Simon, who was in the Philadelphia backfield constantly.

-  Philadelphia CB Damon Moore had an interception.

-  Washington CB Ken Lucas allowed 4 1st downs and allowed 4/5 97yds in pass defense.

KEY POINTS

-  Michigan was down 13-10 late in the second quarter, but would not score again as Birmingham reeled off 16 unanswered points to put the game away.

-  Birmingham CB Samari Rolle and S Pat Dennis both had interceptions

-  Though only able to sack Michigan QB Aaron Brooks once, the Birmingham pass defense was able to hit him 14 times, which led to the accuracy issue he had during the game; he had very little tome in the pocket

KEY POINTS

-  Very sloppy game, but Denver's defense (249 total yards allowed) was the difference in the game

-  Denver was 10/17 3rd down conversions; Oakland was 1/12 (another key to the game)

-  Oakland K Jay Feeley hit 2 field goals from 54 yards, but missed 2 field goals from 47 yards, which could have cost Oakland the game considering Denver scored 3 points off of one of those misses

Defensive Player of the Game - New Jersey S Deon Grant (1 sack, 2 QB Hits, 2 tackles for loss, 4 run stops, 2 pass deflections)

KEY POINTS

-  This was a defensive struggle, with each team holding the other to under 250 totals yard (Arizona gained 220 yards; New Jersey Gained 235 yards)

-  The game was decided by (4) New Jersey turnovers (2 fumbles, 2 interceptions)

-  Arizona DT Kris Jenkins (2 sacks, 2 QB Hits, 1 tackle for loss, 3 Run Stops), rookie  DE Terrell Suggs (1 sack, 5 QB Hits, forced fumble, fumble recovery),  LB Clark Haggans (4 QB Hits, 2 Run Stops, 3 pass deflections) and LB Larry Foote (2 sacks) stood out on the defensive side of the ball

-  New Jersey's defense was put in bad positions all game long by their offense, so allowing only 10 points off of those turnovers was a Herculean task

-  Arizona P Chris Hanson punted the ball 11 times (most I have seen in quite a long time), but only 2 of those punts pinned the New Jersey offense inside the 20 yard line, which is not good

-  Arizona CB David Barrett and CB Tod McBride each had interceptions

*=Playoff Team

-  Washington being eliminated from the playoff in the last game of the season (first time in 4 seasons they have not been a playoff team) was not surprising as they lost HB Edgerrin James (their best player) during week 11 for the rest of the year

-  Defending 2KFL champion Michigan was very disappointing this year

-  The Pacific division continues to be a gauntlet for the top teams in that division

-  Tampa Bay's 6 game improvement from last season is the best I have seen and that improvement came from defensive players plahying better, not from free agents/rookie acquisitions

-  Birmingham's inability to win at home probably cost them a playoff berth; their point differential was better than Michigan and Chicago

-  Arizona is now on the clock for the 2004 2KFL draft and the following are the top 10 players available

Rivers Philip Draft Pool QB
Allen Jared Draft Pool DE
Hall DeAngelo Draft Pool CB
Rothlisberger Ben Draft Pool QB
Manning Eli Draft Pool QB
Fitzgerald Larry Draft Pool WR
Dockett Darnell Draft Pool DT
Taylor Sean Draft Pool S
Adams  Mike Draft Pool

Tampa Bay - Burress 55 pass from Bulger (Brown kick), 4:08
Oakland - Feely 43 FG, 10:06

Second Quarter
Tampa Bay - Moss 18 pass from Bulger (Brown kick), 1:33
Oakland - Feely 25 FG, 9:37
Oakland - Betts 44 pass from Smith (Feely kick), 14:56

Third Quarter
Tampa Bay - Brown 28 FG, 6:18
Oakland - Baxter 88 interception return (Feely kick), 11:54

Fourth Quarter
Oakland - Droughns 7 run (Feely kick), 9:01
Tampa Bay - Burress 7 pass from Bulger (Moss pass from Bulger), 14:18

KEY POINTS

-  Oakland QB Akili Smith played great (21/32 267 yards 2 TD 0 Int) despite being under pressure all game long (3 sacks, 11 QB hurries)

-  Oakland HB Reuben Droughns (17 car 111 yards 1 TD)  and backup HB Ladell Betts (6 catches 90 yards 2 TD) paced the offense

-  Tampa Bay QB Marc Bulger did not play well (17/32 288 yards 3 TD 2 Int), throwing a 88 yard pick 6 interception to Oakland CB Gary Baxter

-  Tampa Bay WR Plaxico Burress (6 catches 140 yards 2 TD) did all he could to bring his team back, but could not do it alone

-  Oakland backup S Eric Brown had an interception and a sack

Oakland goes to its first 2KFL Bowl.  Tampa Bay, despite being tied for the best record in the league, is denied yet again.

Boston 0 13 0 9 -- 22
Los Angeles 0 6 3 12 -- 21

First Quarter
No scoring

Second Quarter
Boston - Hall 40 FG, 1:04
Los Angeles - Brown 28 FG, 3:10
Los Angeles - Brown 27 FG, 10:01
Boston - Ward 9 pass from Culpepper (Hall kick), 14:09
Boston - Hall 30 FG, 15:00

Third Quarter
Los Angeles - Brown 29 FG, 8:09

Fourth Quarter
Los Angeles - Bennett 3 pass from Batch (kick failed), 5:41
Boston - Hall 31 FG, 8:16
Los Angeles - Kelly 6 pass from Batch (2-Point conversion failed), 11:56
Boston - Pittman 3 run (2-Point conversion failed), 14:51

KEY POINTS

-  Boston scores the game-winning touchdown with :09 left in the game to go to the 2KFL Bowl.

-  Los Angeles QB Charlie Batch heaved a 49 yard Hail Mary to WR Anquan Boldin to get them to the Boston 15 yard line, but had no timeouts or time on the clock to kick the game winning field goal.

-  Los Angeles QB Charlie Batch played amazingly (25/35 333 yards 2 TD 0 Int; 9 carries 45 yards), but the lack of a running game (HB Clinton Portis only gaines 25 yards on 8 carries) was a problem

-  Boston HB LaDainian Tomlinson was a force on the ground (19 carries 161 yards) and carried the offense for the mediocre play of QB Daunte Culpepper (18/31 234 yards 1 TD 1 Int).  Culpepper has to play better in the Championship game

-  Boston DT John Henderson had 2 sacks; Los Angeles LB Julian Peterson had 2 sacks as well

This will be the first 2KFL Bowl where either Michigan or Denver will not play.  Gonna be interesting to see how these two new teams play with the championship on the line.

Oakland 9 10 0 14 -- 33
Boston 6 3 0 0 -- 9

First Quarter
Oakland - Safety (FB Brad Hoover tackled in endzone by DE John Engelberger), 2:45
Boston - Hall 25 FG, 9:13
Oakland - HB Reuben Droughns 49 pass from Smith (Feely kick), 10:22
Boston - Hall 30 FG, 14:22

Second Quarter
Oakland - WR Andre Johnson 27 fumble return (Feely kick), 4:16
Boston - Hall 28 FG, 13:20
Oakland - Feely 48 FG, 14:52

Third Quarter
No scoring

Fourth Quarter
Oakland - HB Reuben Droughns 3 run (Feely kick), 1:26
Oakland - HB Ladell Betts 69 run (Feely kick), 13:12

2KFL Bowl MVP - Oakland HB Reuben Droughns (20 carries 143 yards 1 TD; 2 catches 53 yards 1 TD)

KEY POINTS

-  Oakland goes on the road and dismantles Boston to win their first 2KFL title

-  The bigness of the game got to Oakland QB Akili Smith as he did not play well (11/24 150 Yards 1 TD 0 Int) but HB Reuben Droughns was able to carry the team and his primary back up HB Ladell Betts gave his team big plays when needed (1 carry 69 yards 1 TD; 2 catches 15 yards); These two running backs are quite the one-two punch and defenses had trouble holding these two down the latter part of the season (this bodes well for Oakland moving forward)

-  Boston QB Daunte Culpepper was pretty bad this game (12/33 203 yards 0 TD 0 Int) and he twisted his ankle late in the 4th quarter leaving the game.

-  Boston HB LaDainian Tomlinson was spectacular (10 carries 79 yards; 3 catches 42 yards), but could not carry the offense on his shoulders

-  Oakland's defense sack Boston quarterbacks (7) times and harassed them all game long

Oakland is set up for long term success, but HB Rueben Droughns is a free agent, so they may have to open the vault for him, but they are set up ok with HB Ladell Betts if Droughns chooses to go elsewhere.  As long as QB Akili SMith continues to play at an MVP level, they should be ok.

Boston will need to prove this season was not a fluke, but they are also set up well for the future with no big free agents potentially leaving.

On to 2004!
