New Jersey - HB Travis Henry 23 pass from Griese (Vanderjagt kick), 11:52

Fourth Quarter
No scoring

New Jersey scored touchdowns and Boston scored field goals.  That really is the story of the game, besides both teams setting back passing offense by around 50 years or so.  New Jersey QB Brian Griese was awful (4/13 54yds 1td, 5car 10yds) and was saved by a the rushing attack led by HB Travis Henry (24car 129yds, 1cat 23yds 1td).  On defense, S Deon Grant was all over the field making plays (1 interception, 3 run stops, 2 pass deflections, 1/5 12yds on pass defense) and led the way for a great defensive effort.

Boston QB Daunte Culpepper did not play well either (17/38 144yds 0td 2int, 3car 4yds) and despite the great game of HB LaDainian Tomlinson (18car 127yds, 3cat 21yds), the passing game doomed this team all game long.  On defense, Boston actually played well and LB Chris Claiborne was great (1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, 5 run stops) and has been a monster all year long, leading the league with 7 sacks.

Offensive Player of the Game - HB Travis Henry

Defensive Player of the Game - S Deon Grant

Denver Gold (2-2) 10 0 3 0 -- 13
Washington Federals (3-1) 14 10 0 24 -- 48

First Quarter
Denver - Janikowski 46 FG, 6:12
Washington - HB Amos Zereoue 17 run (McGuire kick), 10:10
Denver - WR Nate Burleson 37 pass from King (Janikowski kick), 14:36
Washington - WR Peter Warrick 101 kickoff return (McGuire kick), 15:00

Second Quarter
Washington - WR Peter Warrick 3 pass from Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 11:14
Washington - McGuire 43 FG, 15:00

Third Quarter
Denver - Janikowski 26 FG, 12:36

Fourth Quarter
Washington - WR Corey Bradford 6 pass from Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 1:53
Washington - McGuire 47 FG, 6:06
Washington - WR Chad Johnson 3 pass from Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 12:50
Washington - HB Edgerrin James 36 run (McGuire kick), 13:43

Washington pretty much dominated this game from start to finish, really pouring it on with a 24 point 4th quarter explosion.  Washington QB Matt Hasselbeck was very good this game (19/28 250yds 3td 0int) and spread the ball around to 8 different receivers.  HB Edgerrin James was his usual reliable self (15car 103yds 1td, 3cat 46yds).  On defense, Washington as a team held Denver's offense in check (33 rushing yards, 323 passing yards).

Denver QB Shaun King was able to push the ball down the field (27/47 323yds 1td 0int) but he was not able to consistently operate in the red zone successfully.  On defense, Denver could not control the line of scrimmage and got mauled in the running game (206 yards and 7.2 ards per carry allowed).

Offensive Player of the Game - Washington HB Edgerrin James

Defensive Player of the Game - Washington LB Takeo Spikes (2 sacks, 2 QB hits, 2 run stops, 1 pass deflected)

Michigan Panthers (2-2) 0 21 0 6 -- 27
Birmingham Stallions (1-3) 3 0 0 15 -- 18

First Quarter
Birmingham - Dawson 36 FG, 11:14

Second Quarter
Michigan - WR Peerless Price 20 pass from Brooks (Lindell kick), 1:31
Michigan - WR Patrick Palmer 19 pass from Brooks (Lindell kick), 8:15
Michigan - HB Shaun Alexander 5 run (Lindell kick), 13:23

Third Quarter
No scoring

Fourth Quarter
Michigan - WR Antwaan Randle-El 41 pass from Brooks (kick failed), 2:42
Birmingham - WR Deion Branch 21 pass from Manning (Dawson kick), 7:28
Birmingham - WR Tim Dwight 4 pass from Manning (Wayne pass from Manning), 11:06

Michigan had this game well at hand before giving up two late touchdowns to Birmingham.  This game was all about Michigan HB Shaun Alexander who was dominant (27car 138yds 1td).  Michigan QB Aaron Brooks was efficient (16/22 205yds 3td 1int, 4car 10yds) and moved the chains and pushed the ball down the field.  On defense, Michigan's front 7 held the Birmingham run game in check (allowed only 52 yards and 2.8 yards per carry) and forced Birmingham convert 5 1st downs out of 13 attempts.

Birmingham's QB Peyton Manning was actually pretty good (22/33 246yds 2td 0int, 2car 1 yd) but the lack of a sustained running game limited their time of possession (Michigan had the ball for over 32 minutes) and hampered them throughout the game. On Defense, the inability to stop the Michigan running game and get off the field on 3rd down (allowed 7/13 third down conversions) was the fatal flaw of this game.

Offensive Player of the Game - Michigan HB Shaun Alexander

Defensive Player of the Game - Michigan LB Sam Cowart (1 sack, 1 run stop, 1 forced fumble)

Chicago Blitz (2-2) 0 0 7 3 -- 10
Los Angeles Express (2-2) 0 7 0 0 -- 7

First Quarter
No scoring

Second Quarter
Los Angeles - WR T.J. Houshmanzada 30 pass from Batch (Brown kick), 14:24

Third Quarter
Chicago - WR Cedrick Wilson 33 pass from Hamilton (Edinger kick), 12:16

Fourth Quarter
Chicago - Edinger 46 FG, 14:41

This game was a street fight until the very end.  Each team forced 4 turnovers and each team held the other team to under 300 total yards (CHI gained 225 yards, LA gained 267 yards).  The Chicago offense was led by HB Jamal Lewis (21car 128yds, 3cat 18yds) and his big game was needed because QB Joe Hamilton did not play well at all (13/22 113yds 1td 1int, 3car 2yds).  The Chicago defense was led by LB Keith Brooking (3 QB Hits, 2 tackles for loss, 2 run stops) and S Michael Lewis (1 interception, 1 QB hit, 2 tackles for loss, 1 pass deflected).

Los Angeles struggled on offense as well as QB Charlie Batch focused on the short passing game (21/41 169yds 1td 3int) and could not stress the Chicago secondary down the field.  The Los Angeles defense played well, rushing defense the exception) and S Ifeanyi Ohalete did something very rare for a defensive back; he got 3 sacks blitzing on passing downs.  I am not sure I have seen that before from a blitzing safety.

Offensive Player of the Game - HB Jamal Lewis

Defensive Player of the Game - Los Angeles S Ifeanyi Ohalete (3 sacks, 1 QB Hit, 1 run stop)

Fourth Quarter
Oakland - S Mike Brown 41 interception return (Feely kick), 0:14
Arizona - Gramatica 19 FG, 11:54

16 yards.  That's the amount of yardage Oakland needed to score a TD and extended their undefeated record.  It was not to be though as Arizona stood tough and ended the game with a DE Courtney Brown sack.  Arizona QB Ryan Leaf was pretty much terrible (18/35 244yds 3td 4int) but he did some good work down the field supplemented by special teams and defensive touchdowns to eke out the win.  On defense, rookie DE Terrell Suggs was a menace (2 sacks, 2 QB hits, 2 run stops) and the defense overall only gave up 317 total yards (230 yds passing, 87 yds rushing).  Arizona is a better team than theor record shows, so hopefully, they can go on a nice win streak.

Oakland QB Akili Smith played very well (24/36 258yds 2td 1int; 5car 4yds) and almost led his team to victory with the help of WR Torrey Hilt (7cat 80yds 1 td) and WR Jabbar Gaffney (7cat 80yds 1td).  On defense, the front 7 gave up 147yds rushing and the secondary gave up a lot of big play yards in the passing game (gave up 3 passes over 30+ yards).

New Jersey - Vanderjagt 39 FG, 5:48
New Jersey - Vanderjagt 34 FG, 11:44

Second Quarter
New Jersey - HB Travis Henry 2 run (Vanderjagt kick), 5:15
Birmingham - HB Cecil Collins 3 pass from QB Peyton Manning (Dawson kick), 12:29
New Jersey - Vanderjagt 48 FG, 14:02
Birmingham - WR Marty Booker 27 pass from QB Peyton Manning (Dawson kick), 14:45

Third Quarter
New Jersey - HB Dominic Rhodes 77 pass from QB Brian Griese (Vanderjagt kick), 2:31
Birmingham - WR Deion Branch 77 pass from QB Peyton Manning (Dawson kick), 3:50
New Jersey - HB Travis Henry 1 run (Vanderjagt kick), 11:09
New Jersey - Vanderjagt 44 FG, 12:57

Fourth Quarter
New Jersey - Vanderjagt 46 FG, 7:58

Birmingham was hanging tough with New Jersey until the 3rd quarter.  New Jersey put up 17 points and then coasted to an easy victory behind the Pass game and tough 2nd half defense.  New Jersey QB Brian Griese finally played the kind New Jersey thought they were paying for when they made him the centerpiece of their free agency.  Griese's  statline (28/45 329yds 1td 0int; 3car -1yds) was great and he killed the Birmingham defense on screen passes to HB Dominic Rhodes (5cat 136yds 1td).  New Jersey's defense was dominant, led by LB Bart Scott (2 sacks, 1 sack, 3 QB Hits, 1 pass deflection) who was all over the field making big plays.

Birmingham's QB Peyton Manning was up an down (28/46 285yds 3td 2int; 1 car -2yds) and was not helped by a putrid running attack (only 7 rushing attempts all game for 48 total yards) though WR Deion Branch was a bright spot for the offense (9cat 128yds 1 td).  The play calling was terrible.  On Defense, Birmingham allow 9/19 3rd down conversions and was on the field way too long, tiring the defense out (New Jersey held the ball for almost 37 minutes).

First Quarter
Boston - HB Michael Pittman 3 run (Hall kick), 6:18
Chicago - Edinger 28 FG, 13:14

Fourth Quarter
Boston - WR Donte Stallworth 23 pass from Culpepper (Hall kick), 8:09
Boston - Hall 49 FG, 10:48
Chicago - FB Fred Beasley 7 run (Edinger kick), 13:01
Boston - Hall 24 FG, 13:53

Chicago had a chance at the end to score the game winning TD, but their final drive stalled at the Boston 25yard line. Boston QB Daunte Culpepper (25/41 293yds 1td 2int; 2car -3yds) spread the ball around to 7 different receivers but their clutch player of the game for Bostom was actually K Jeff Hall who nailed 4 field goals icluding a 54 yarder.  Boston Defense held the Chicago offense to just 4.9 yards per offensive play.

Chicago QB Joe Hamilton (28/43 267yds 1 td 0 int; 3 car 18yds) did what he could, but the lack of a running game (80 total yards and 4.2 yards per carry) hampered his ability to flourish in the play action passing game.  Though the defense played well against the run (77 total yards and 4.1 yards per carry), their failure to stop the Boston Offense in the 4th quarter was the ballgame.

Los Angeles Express (3-2) 6 3 7 10 -- 26
Michigan Panthers (2-3) 0 7 3 3 -- 13

First Quarter
Los Angeles - Brown 49 FG, 10:53
Los Angeles - Brown 28 FG, 12:16

Second Quarter
Los Angeles - Brown 32 FG, 8:03
Michigan - WR Kevin Curtis 10 pass from Brooks (Lindell kick), 10:52

Third Quarter
Michigan - Lindell 33 FG, 4:59
Los Angeles - WR T.J. Houshmanzada 8 pass from Batch (Brown kick), 9:37

Fourth Quarter
Michigan - Lindell 37 FG, 1:57
Los Angeles - HB Michael Bennett 11 run (Brown kick), 9:21
Los Angeles - Brown 52 FG, 13:11

Three interceptions by Michigan QB Aaron Brooks was pretty much the difference in the game.  The teams gained similar total yardage (LA - 359yds MCH - 325yds), though Los Angeles ran the ball better (5.2 yards per carry to 4.3) allowing Los Angeles to enjoy a 33 to 27 time of possession advantage.  Los Angeles QB Charlie Batch played well (27/48 264yds 1 td 0 int; 1car 8yds), moved the chains with 13 passing first downs and engineered a 9/19 3rd down conversion rate.  He accomplished all of this despite being under constant pressure all game (4 sacks and 17 QB hits); the offensive line has to protect him better moving forward.  On Defense, S Brian Kelly played lights out (1 interception, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, 2 run stops, allowed 1/4 11yds when targeted in passing game) and was the driving force in a ball-hawking secondary.

Michigan QB Aaron Brooks pretty much cost his team the game (23/40 288yds 1td 3int; 2car 23yds) with those turnovers.  One notable performance was backup HB Shawn Bryson, who killed the Los Angeles linebackers and safeties in the passing game (7car 17yds; 5cat 120yds).  These were not screen passes he broke open for big plays, they were him in the slot and out wide exploiting mismatches. The Michigan defense played very well and their pass rush was ferocious behind the huge game of free agent signee DE Jevon Kearse (3 sacks, 4 QB hits, 1 forced fumble).  The defensive front 4 accounted for 12 total QB hits.  The 2KFL Bowl hangover is lasting longer than the defending champion Michigan Panthers would like, so they best get their acts together fast as division leading Tampa Bay Bandits  (3-1) are much improved from last year and will not be easy to catch.

Tampa Bay Bandits (4-1) 7 7 7 0 -- 21

First Quarter
Oakland - HB Reuben Droughns 6 pass from QB Akili Smith (Feely kick), 2:33
Tampa Bay - WR Randy Moss 83 punt return (Brown kick), 11:16

Second Quarter
Tampa Bay - HB Olandis Gary 45 run (Brown kick), 0:13

Third Quarter
Tampa Bay - WR Troy Walters 10 pass from QB Marc Bulger (Brown kick), 3:51
Oakland - WR Torry Holt 7 pass from QB Akili Smith (Feely kick), 9:07

Fourth Quarter
No scoring

Tough defensive battle where the two offenses both chose to air it out (TB threw 45 passes; Oak threw 57 passes) trying to test the opposing secondary.  Tampa Bay  QB Marc Bulger threw a lot of short passes (26/45 250yds 1td 1int) and spread the ball around to 7 different receivers.  He also was able to move the chains when needed (threw 10 first downs passes).  On defense, Tampa Bay DT Ron Edwards continues to dominate inside (4 QB Hits, 1 run stop, 1 forced fumble) and his ability to commend double teams allows his team mates to swarm to the ball in the running game (only allowed 3.0 yards per carry) and the passing game (Tampa Bay defenders pressured the Oakland QB 44% of all dropbacks).

Oakland QB Akili Smith threw a lot of passing with very little downfield success (32/57 314yds 2td 1int; 6 car 21yds).  5.5 yards per pass attempt is just not going to cut it with that volume of passing attempts.  The Oakland defense, behind the stellar play of the secondary, held the Tampa Bay all-world receiver tandem of WR Randy Moss (5cat 25yds) and WR Plaxico Burress (7cat 67yds) in check all game long and did all the could to hold the potent Tampa Bay offense in check.

Washington Federals (4-1) 7 7 7 0 -- 21

Second Quarter

Fourth Quarter
Arizona - Gramatica 32 FG, 4:41
Arizona - HB Deuce McAllister 1 run (Gramatica kick), 12:50

After starting QB Matt Hasselbeck was injured early in the 1st quarter with a sprained ankle, backup QB Sage Rosenfels came in for relief and played magnificently (18/24 186 2td 0int; 5car 25yds).  Washington pretty much had this game in hand until Arizona scored 2 late scores, but during Washington's final drive, they were able to run the clock the final 3 minutes of the game to nail the victory down.  HB Edgerrin James (14car 105yds; 3cat 9yds 1td) and WR Peter Warrick (7cat 109yds) played well and supported the Washington offense during the QB change.  The Washington defense did not play particularly well but they were able to get off of the field on 3rd down, allowing only a 4/14 conversion rate.

Arizona QB Ryan Leaf played ok, but could not get the ball into the endzone (25/40 266yds 0td 0int).  The heroics of HB Deuce McAllister (15car 132yds 1td; 1cat 12yds) was the only reason why Arizona was in this ballgame at the end.  Arizona's defense could not get off the field on 3rd downs (allowed 7/14 conversion rate) and that pretty much cost them the game.

Offensive Player of the Game - Washington QB Sage Rosenfels

Defensive Player of the Game - Arizona DT Kris Jenkins (1 sack, 1 QB hit, 1 tackle for loss, 3 run stops)

Denver - Janikowski 19 FG, 14:55

Third Quarter
Denver - LB Ed Hartwell 14 fumble return (Janikowski kick), 8:26
Philadelphia - HB Maurice Morris 17 pass from Brady (Graham kick), 14:03

Fourth Quarter
Philadelphia - HB Aaron Stecker 5 run (Graham kick), 8:43
Denver - Janikowski 20 FG, 12:09
Denver - Janikowski 47 FG, 14:52

Philadelphia did everything right except win the game, allowing two late field goals, including the game winner with :08 second left in the game.  Denver needed 16 defensive points to win this game and that should bother the Philadelphia team something fierce; two fumbles returned for touchdowns deep in their territory and a safety?!?

Denver's offense struggled. QB Shaun King did not play well (21/45 256yds 0td 0int), the Denver rushing offense was sporadic (rushed for 77 total yards, 65 of which was run by HB Kevin Faulk) and were it not for their defense, Denver would have been blown out (only converted 2/16 third downs).  The defensive standouts are numerous as DT Glen Steele (3 sacks, 1 safety, 1 QB Hit, 2 tackles for loss), DE Justin Smith (1 touchdown, 1 sack, 4 QB hits, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery), DT Kelly Gregg (2 sacks, 3 QB Hits) and LB Rosevelt Colvin (1 int, 4 QB hits and 2 run stops) rained hell on the Philadelphia offense all game long.

Philadelphia QB Tom Brady tried to put the team on his back will them to victory (30/48 305yds 1td 1int; 7 car 50yds).  He spread the ball around to 9 different receivers and should have gotten the win after possessing the ball for close to 39 minutes; the defense, who did play very well, just could not hold the Denver offense in the end.  DE Adewale Ogunleye was his usual disruptive self causing mayhem when he was on the field (1 sack, 3 QB hits, 1 forced fumble).  The good news is Philadelphia is playing better this year, they just have to learn how to close out game.

Offensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia HB Thomas Jones (13car 50yds 1td; 4cat 70yds)

Defensive Player of the Game - Denver DT Glen Steele

Boston Breakers (3-3) 6 3 7 8 -- 24
Philadelphia Stars (2-4) 7 3 7 10 -- 27

First Quarter
Philadelphia - HB Thomas Jones 6 run (Graham kick), 4:15
Boston - HB Michael Pittman 3 pass from QB Daunte Culpepper (kick failed - Blocked by DT Dimitrius Underwood), 10:41

Second Quarter
Boston - Hall 18 FG, 12:31
Philadelphia - Graham 35 FG, 14:25

Third Quarter

Philadelphia - HB Thomas Jones 1 run (Graham kick), 12:45

Fourth Quarter
Philadelphia - Graham 39 FG, 4:57
Philadelphia - TE Dallas Clark 1 pass from QB Tom Brady (Graham kick), 9:38
Boston - HB LaDanian Tomlinson 13 pass from QB Daunte Culpepper (WR JuJaun Dawson pass from QB Daunte Culpepper), 13:05

Philadelphia is finally starting to look like a complete football team.  The gained 454 yards in total offense, led by the arm of QB Tom Brady (22/31 269yds 1td 0int; 3car 23yds), the hands of QB Kevin Johnson (8cat 101yds) and rookie  TE Dallas Clark (3cat 73yds 1td) as well as the dynamic running of  HB Thomas Jones (25car 176yds 2td).  The defense had to hold on at the end, but holding Boston to 3/11 on 3rd downs proved to be the key of the game.

Boston QB Daunte Culpepper actually played his best game of the year (21/36 267yds 3td 0int; 1car -2yds), but the inability to convert his throws on 3rd downs proved costly despite the huge game of WR Hines Ward (9cat 165yds).  Culpepper should have targeted Ward a bit more on 3rd downs to extend drives.  The Boston defense's inability to stop the Philadelphia running game (gave up 203 total rushing yards) was the key to the game.

Offensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia HB Thomas Jones

Defensive Player of the Game - Boston S Roy Williams (1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, 2 run stops, 2 passes deflected)

First Quarter
Chicago - WR Cedric Wilson 4 pass from QB Joe Hamilton (Edinger kick), 9:43

Second Quarter

New Jersey - HB Travis Henry 1 run (Vanderjagt kick), 0:44
Chicago - HB Sammy Morris 2 pass from QB Joe Hamilton (Edinger kick), 6:41
Chicago - Edinger 36 FG, 14:34

New Jersey lost this game due to the efforts of one man.  That man is their main free agency acquisition, QB Brian Griese.  Griese turned the ball over 5 times (3 fumbles, 2 interceptions) by himself and New Jersey never had a chance despite dominating Chicago in time possession (almost 37 minutes), dominating Chicago in total yardage (425 yards to 246, 200 of those yards coming on the ground) and completing 7/14 on 3rd downs.  Those turnovers were fatal.

Chicago QB Joe Hamilton surgically took apart the New Jersey Secondary (17/25 208yds 3td 0int; 2car 10yds) throwing 7 of his 10 total passing 1st downs on first down.  Though Chicago only converted 2/9 3rd downs, their precision on 1st downs mitigated those non-conversions.  Not even an anemic Chicago rushing attack (48 yards total, 2.2 yards per carry) could hold back the offense, due to the short fields those turnovers allowed the offense to operate in.  On defense, LB Dat Nguyen played the game of his life (2 sacks, 1 QB hit, 1 run stop, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery) and S Ryan Clark created chaos all game long (1 sack, 16 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 5 run stops, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery).

New Jersey QB Brian Griese continued his subpar play (22/41 241yds 0td 2int; 1car 14yds) that has been a hallmark of his game all season long.  Reallt the only player on the entire team that played a good game was HB Travis Henry (20car 114yds 2 td; 1cat 6yds).  No one od defense stood out despite their run defense playing well, but the secondary's collapse just killed thier defense all game long.

Tampa Bay Bandits (5-1) 0 7 7 10 -- 24
Washington Federals (4-2) 0 0 7 13 -- 20

First Quarter
No scoring

Second Quarter
Tampa Bay - FB Terrelle Smith 2 run (Brown kick), 10:04

Third Quarter
Washington - HB Edgerrin James 37 run (McGuire kick), 8:13
Tampa Bay - WR Plaxico Burress 6 pass from QB Marc Bulger (Brown kick), 15:00

Fourth Quarter
Washington - HB Edgerrin James 71 pass from QB Sage Rosenfels (McGuire kick), 1:08
Tampa Bay - Brown 29 FG, 9:27
Tampa Bay - HB Fred Taylor 8 run (Brown kick), 13:38
Washington - WR Chad Johnson 5 pass from QB Sage Rosenfels (kick failed), 14:58

In a potential preview of the 2003 2KFL Bowl, the two teams with the best records in the league clashed.  The game was decided by 4 Washington turnovers (3 fumbles, 1 interception).  It was only through the herculean efforts of Washington HB Edgerrin James (21car 189yds 1 td; 1cat 71yds 1td) that Washington was able to keep this game close.

Tampa Bay QB Marc Bulger played well (15/26 184yds 1td 0int; 4car 24yds) while taking advantage of the shirt fields the Washington turnovers allowed.  HB Fred Taylor was the lynchpin of the offense (26car 116yds 1td; 1cat 9yds) allowing Tampa Bay to enjoy  36 minutes time of possession, controlling the pace of the game.  The Tampa Bay defense really did not stop the Washington offense (396 total yards), but forcing 4 turnovers proved to be the key to the game.

Washington backup QB Sage Rosenfels continues to show he can adequately move the ball down the field (16/26 232yds 2td 1int), but he had 2 of those 4 turnovers, and fumbled the ball 2 other times, which were recovered, thankfully.  He has to do a better job protecting the ball until starting QB Matt Hasselbeck can heal from his ankle injury.  Washington's defense inability to control the Tampa Bay rushing offense (gave up 164 total yards) did not help them, even though the utrnovers gave them numerous short fields to defend.  I have a feeling these two teams will be seeing each other again in the playoffs.

Offensive Player of the Game - Washington HB Edgerrin James

Defensive Player of the Game - Tampa Bay CB Jeremetrius Butler (1sack, 1 interception, 1 run stop)

Third Quarter
Michigan - HB Fred Jackson 28 run (Lindell kick), 8:34

Fourth Quarter
Michigan - HB Shaun Alexander 3 run (Lindell kick), 12:55
Oakland - WR Jabbar Gaffney 24 pass from QB Akili Smith (White run), 14:52

The game was not as close as the final score indicates.  Michigan ran all over the Oakland defense, gaining 293 rushing yards and 9.2 yards per carry  in 32 attempts.  Michigan HB Shaun Alexander was unstoppable (19car 194yds 3td; 1cat 13yds) and tore the heart out of the defenders trying to stop him.  Michigan QB Aaron Brooks moved the chains when needed and was efficient (15/24 156yds 1td 0int), but he took a back seat to the Michigan rushing attack.  Michigan's defense real had no one stand out, but they did just enough to hold on for the win despite giving up 372 total yard (98 rushing, 274 passing).

Oakland QB Akili Smith did everything in his power to try to get Oakland to come back in the game as he was outstanding (26/38 303yds 2td 0int; 2car 28yds).  The Oakland offense was betrayed by the run defense, plain and simple.

First Quarter
Denver - WR Nate Burleson 4 pass from QB Shaun King (Janikowski kick), 4:21

Second Quarter
Denver - WR Jerry Porter 5 pass from QB Shaun King (Janikowski kick), 1:31

Denver - HB Willis McGahee 6 run (Janikowski kick), 14:27
Arizona - WR Ronald Curry 102 kickoff return (Gramatica kick), 14:53

Fourth Quarter
Denver - WR Jerry Porter 6 pass from King (Janikowski kick), 8:24
Arizona - WR Ronald Curry 102 kickoff return (kick failed), 8:48

Denver dominated from start to finish and had they not have had two special team coverage breakdowns, they would have pitched a shutout.  Denver QB Shaun King had a strong game (25/36 311yds 3td 1int; 3car -6yds) and is a strong contender for the league comeback player of the year. Denver's defense was impenetrable all game long and led by LB Brian Urlacher (2 sacks, 1 QB hit, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 run stops), backup CB Shaunard Harts (1 defensive TD, 1 interception, 1 tackle for loss, 3 run stops, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass deflected), DE Gary Stills (1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, 2 run stops, 1 forced fumble) and S Jerry Azumah (1 interception, 1 run stop, 0/3 when targeted in the passing game).

The Arizona offense only gained 192 total yards all game long.  Arizona QB Ryan Leaf was terrible (13/27 139yds 0td 2int) and luckily QB Donovan McNabb comes off of the injury list next week.  Arizona finished 7-5 last year and due to the injury of their starting QB, they will be hard pressed to match that record this season.  The Arizona defense could not get off of the field on third downs (allowed 7/12 on 3rd downs) and let the Denver passing offense pick them apart all game long.

New Jersey Generals (3-4) 7 7 0 7 -- 21
Philadelphia Stars (3-4) 0 7 7 11 -- 25

First Quarter
New Jersey - FB Nick Goings 1 pass from QB Brian Griese (Vanderjagt kick), 9:49

Second Quarter
Philadelphia - HB Thomas Jones 1 run (Graham kick), 0:02
New Jersey - WR D'Wayne Bates 2 pass from QB Brian Griese (Vanderjagt kick), 7:11

Third Quarter
Philadelphia - WR Santana Moss 5 pass from QB Tom Brady (Graham kick), 11:40

Fourth Quarter
New Jersey - HB Travis Henry 6 run (Vanderjagt kick), 11:24
Philadelphia - HB Aaron Stecker 11 pass from QB Tom Brady (Jones pass from Brady), 13:21
Philadelphia - Graham 22 FG, 14:25

New Jersey outgained Philadelphia (330-235), had the ball longer (33:19 to 26:41) and was leading 21-14 with 3:28 left in the 4th quarter.  None of that mattered.  Philadelphia QB Tom Brady, who had played well  (18/29 179yds 2td 0int; 6car 9yds), engineered a beautiful 6 play 73 yard drive leading to a td with 1:29 left on the clock.  Not content to play for the tie, Philadelphia elected to go for 2 points and were successful to go ahead and never look back. Adding another garbage time field goal was icing on the cake.

New Jersey actually got the ball down to the Philadelphia 35 yard line, but an interception by QB Brian Griese (22/33 199yds 2td 1int; 4car 2yds) to Philadelphia backup CB Lito Sheppard ended the game.

Offensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia WR Santana Moss (5cat 79yds 1td)

Defensive Player of the Game - Philadelphia DT Shaun Rogers (1 sack, 2 QB hits, 1 run stop, 1 forced fumble)
