Chicago was leading this game at halftime 20-17 but after the intermission, Oakland proceeded to score 30 unanswered points in a blow out victory.  Chicago rookie QB David Garrard in his first 2KFL start was very underwhelming as to be expected.  You could tell that the game was moving too fast for him as evidenced by his bad completion rate.  Hopefully, he will settle in and things will slow down for him moving forward while leaning on HB Jamal Lewis, who was a freight train today.

Oakland QB Tim Couch was magnificent today, HB Reuben Droughns gained 181 total yards while on defense, S Mike Brown was all over the field today.  All three phases of the game were excellent today for Oakland.

This game was a tale of two halves.  Los Angeles played pretty well in the 1st half, but couldn't get anything going in the 2nd half only gaining 46 total yard in 4 out of 5 2nd half drives; the last drive gained 61 yards and a score.  Arizona dominated the 2nd half behind the hard running of HB Deuce McAllister. Defensively, rookie LB Larry Foote was all over the field making clutch plays.  Good win for Arizona.

New Jersey - Vanderjagt 48 FG, 1:25
New Jersey - Zereoue 4 run (kick failed), 10:32

Tampa Bay's struggles continue.  This time their offensive line struggled mightily, allowing QB Marc Bulger to be battered to the tune of 8 sacks and 6 additional hits.  The poor guy was under duress all game, hampering the Tampa Bay offense ability to sustain drives despite outgaining the New Jersey offense 325 to 242 yards.

Chicago was doing well in the 1st half and even had a 13-10 lead at halftime.  The 2nd half was a different story as 3 turnovers in 3 2nd half possessions doomed them.  Washington 2nd year HB Rudi Johnson got his first 2KFL start of his career for the injured HB Edgerrin James and the Washington offense did not miss a beat.  Defensively, Washington LB Takeo Spikes had a magnificent game and was making plays all over the field even forcing a fumble.  For Chicago, rookie QB David Garrard, in his 2nd start, was up and down.  He was more accurate with his passes, but and interception and a fumble were critical plays that hurt the Chicago offense.  Chicago HB Jamal Lewis was a handful for the Washington defense, but to no avail.

Arizona dominated this game behind the stellar play of QB Donovan McNabb and HB Deuce McAllister.  Michigan's defense has struggled to stop the run all year (55% of rushes against this defense are successful) and the Arizona offense took advantage of this time and time again.   Defensively, the free agent Arizona signed away from Chicago DE Marques Douglas, finally broke out with his best game of the year.  As for Michigan, once QB Aaron Brooks got injured and was out of the game  (Sprained ankle), the offense folded, leaving their defense on the field for long stretches trying to stop the potent Arizona running game to no avail.

Arizona had kind of been a surprise team this year (after finishing 5-7 last season), so if QB Donovan McNabb can continue his MVP-level play (completing 63% of his passes with 10 TDs and 1 interception), this team should be a playoff team.

Utter and complete domination.  Los Angeles held the ball for 37 minutes, almost doubled the Philadelphia offense in yardage (476-267) and and was up 37-0 going into the 4th quarter when they gave up two garbage touchdowns.  The Los Angeles trio of QB Charlie BatchHB Clinton Portis and WR Mike Furrey were outstanding.   After 5 games, one thing is certain, Philadelphia needs to totally overhaul their defense.  They give up a successful play 55% of every run play and 67% of every pass play, worst in the league by far in those categories.

Denver's pass rush in the 2nd half was the story of the game.  The Denver defense harassed Boston QB Daunte Culpepper all game, sacking him 6 times and hitting him numerous other times while shutting out the Boston offense from scoring after halftime.  The Boston offensive line could not protect their QB, despite their stellar run blocking allowing the offense to gain 175 total yards on the ground.

Washington Federals 7 3 7 16 -- 33
Boston Breakers 0 7 3 7 -- 17

First Quarter
Washington - Hardy 3 pass from Hasselbeck (McGuire kick), 4:27

Second Quarter
Washington - McGuire 21 FG, 1:43
Boston - Ward 14 pass from Culpepper (Hall kick), 14:10

Third Quarter
Washington - Tucker 90 punt return (McGuire kick), 11:08
Boston - Hall 49 FG, 12:26

Fourth Quarter
Washington - Morris 31 run (kick failed), 0:50
Washington - McGuire 33 FG, 6:44
Washington - Jackson 12 run (McGuire kick), 11:47
Boston - Crumpler 9 pass from Culpepper (Hall kick), 13:52

This game was close until Washington reeled off 16 consecutive points in the 4th quarter to put the game away.  Washington QB Matt Hasselbeck was accurate while extending drives and averaging 10.2 yards per pass attempt (as opposed to Boston QB Daunte Culpepper averaging 5.7 yards per pass attempt).  That pass disparity was really the story of the game and the reason way Boston lost.

First Quarter
New Jersey - Hakim 1 pass from Pennington (Vanderjagt kick), 11:10

Second Quarter

Chicago - Edinger 48 FG, 13:52

New Jersey - Henry 2 run (Vanderjagt kick), 11:48

Fourth Quarter
Chicago - Kinney 5 pass from Garrard (Edinger kick), 2:13
New Jersey - Vanderjagt 28 FG, 9:22

The New Jersey Generals defense was stellar against the hapless Chicago Blitz offense.  On the season, Chicago Blitz QBs have been sacked 25 times in 6 games.  Until the Blitz offensive line can protect their quarterback, the struggles will continue for them.

The New Jersey generals finished with an 4-8 record last season.  Their offensive personnel is pretty much the same from last season.  And on defense, there were three changes made to that side of the ball; S Deon Grant was signed away from the Philadelphia Stars and LB Bart Scott and DE James Harrison were drafted in the 2002 2KFL draft.  Those 3 deft moves have transformed the New Jersey Defense and powered this team to a 5-1 record at the league's halfway mark of the season.  Amazing turn around and I suspect this team is going to be tough to deal with down the stretch.

Not much defense played in this game.  Michigan converted on third down almost at will (12/15) forcing Philadelphia's putrid defense to stay on the field and get worn down to exhaustion.  Michigan QB Aaron Brooks dual threat capabilities were on full display.  Great offensive effort for Michigan.  As for Philadelphia, their defense is horrible and I would not be surprised if they don't win a game this year.  They only have 2 high level players (DT Casey Hampton and DT Shaun Rogers) on that side of the ball and the results show every game.

Wild game.  Looks like the wheels are falling off the Tampa Bay Bandit's season.  Despite stellar games from their offensive stars(QB Marc Bulger, WR Randy Moss and WR Plaxico Burress were sensation), overcoming 3 total turnovers, 2 of which are returned for scores as well as bad run defense proved too much for the Bandits.

Oakland ran all over the Tampa Bay defense and and their opportunistic in returning two fumbles for scores.

Definitely interested in playing in an online league also.

pnfl.biz and usafl.net are the only two online FBPro98 leagues left that I know of.

Second Quarter

Third Quarter

Birmingham - Williams 16 pass from Manning (Dawson kick), 12:10

Fourth Quarter
Arizona - Gramatica 26 FG, 2:20
Birmingham - Booker 12 pass from Manning (Dawson kick), 5:45

This game was a tale of 2 halves for the Arizona Wranglers.  Arizona was cruising along in the 1st half, but 3 crushing QB Donovan McNabb interceptions in the 2nd half pretty much decided the game.  Arizona held the ball for 35 minutes, converted 10/17 3rd downs and outgained Birmingham 349 yards to 316 yard, but those untimely turnovers proved decisive.

Birmingham QB Peyton Manning played very well while on defense, Birmingham was able to bend but not break.

KEY INJURIES and SUSPENSIONS

There were no key injuries, but there were two HUGE suspensions this week.  New Jersey HB Amos Zereoue was suspended for 2 weeks for a Performance Enhancing Drug suspension.  And much worse, New Jersey WR Az-Zahir Hakim has been suspended for 1 year for a substance abuse drug suspension.  New Jersey losing their starting HB for 2 weeks and their number 1 WR for a year is a huge blow for an up and coming team.

This is the rare game where the kickers decided the game.  Although New Jersey K Mike Vanderjagt was excellent going 5/6 (51yd miss) in field goals, Boston K Jeff Hall's 43yd field goal with 3:11 left in the game decided the game.  New Jersey's defense held Boston's offense to only 191 total yards, but untimely turnovers in the 4th quarter, including one returned for a TD, doomed the efforts to pull the game out.

Overtime
Tampa Bay - Janikowski 28 FG, 14:52

This was a very interesting game, with Tampa Bay kicking a last second field goal in overtime to secure the win.  Chicago ran all over the Tampa Bay defense (240 yards), yet Tampa Bay's pass rush harassed Chicago QBs all game long (5 sacks and numerous pressures).  The game pretty came down to the turnover battle (Chicago turned over the ball 4 times to 2 times for Tampa Bay).  Additionally, Chicago's QBs were pretty bad offsetting the dominance of the running game.

Tampa Bay's Offense was outstanding as usual, but the Tampa Bay run defense has been hamstringing this team all season long.  60% of all running plays against this defense are successful (carries gain at least 40% of needed yardage for a first down on 1st down, 60% on 2nd down and 100% on 3rd or 4th down).  This is far and away the worst run defense in the league (league average is 46.3%).  Hopefully, they can improve, because this offense is championship-ready.

The Chicago blitz have the exact opposite issue; great defense trying to cover for awful quarterback play.
