  1. For anyone interested, FHM10 is having a winter sale on both steam and their webstore. I prefer steam due to drag and drop options that some reason they can't figure out how to do on their own webstore.

Both versions are 33% off or $26.79. I'm actually really liking 10 compared to 8. I did not play/buy 9 as I normally buy sports games on a minimum of 2 year basis.

Why not just have a scale that is relative to the genre?  On a 1-10 scale if Football Manager is a 9 (should be next to impossible to garner a 10…or at least extremely difficult) then games such as Out of the Park Baseball should be an 8, and a game like Front Office Football would be a 7.

there’s nothing wrong with scores like that for the better games in the genre.  Having everything an 8.5 or above (most are above 9) doesn’t help people.  If  it’s users who are voting I get it, but they really are NOT being objective, and the problem is these scores get published in a lot of different places.

it’s just my opinion that you may want to consider bringing some credibility to the review system here on this site.  It’s hard to take the current system seriously.

again, I love the concept of this site, as I’m an avid fan of the genre.  I’m just trying to shed a little light on an aspect I think could be improved upon.

and yes, cheers to all of the hard working developers who strive to grow this genre !(especially stateside)

I’d even be good with using the real scale baseball scouts use.  In the 2-8 scale I’d give FM an 8, OOTP a 7 and FOF a 6.

But again..those are user votes. That's not the site deciding the score, that's people (me, you, average forum user) voting for that score. Do I believe those are high? Yes. Would I rate most the games as high as they are? No. But You can't dictate what users rate games at, unless you turn off all user ratings.

I think it is great this site exists for the genre of GM/management style sports games, but until the reviews get to be serious I can't take this site seriously.  Almost every score is a 9 or better and it is impossible to sort through which games are actually better than others.  The reviews need to be honest and objective, and they are NOT.  Until they are, I just can't take any of the published reviews here seriously.

To be fair, most those aren't reviews. Those are user ratings scores. It's much easier to just click a rating then to actually put that rating into words. I'd guess that skews the ratings higher. Most games don't appear to have reviews on this site. But the site is nice for documenting what all games are out there. Then I normally go to Steam|YouTube|MetaCritic and google to see reviews for the game. I prefer to find sites with more then just one persons thoughts on the game.

  9. With OOTP22 being on sale on Epic Games for $5, I decided it was time ot have some fun in OOTP again. This time instead of a modern dynasty, I'll be doing a "what if" style dynasty. What if the Indianapolis Arrows actually happened in 1986? Art Angotti already had a team name. He had already sold 12,000 season tickets. But Indy didn't have a ballpark and never was able to finalize a deal on one. But what if they had? Welcome to my Indianapolis Arrows Dynasty.

    Web Version Of This Article:

    Introducing the Indianapolis Arrows

About Dynasty: I’ll be using 1986 rosters. Expansion and relocation will be on and will happen as they did in the real world. Drafts will have realistic yearly draft classes & player pool will have potentials being realistic to 1986, for example, Barry Bonds is a 21 year old 5 star CF prospect. But to give it some randomness, there is no guarantee they will top out at what they did in real life.

A copy of the 1985 edition of Indianapolis Sports promoting the Indianapolis Arrows.

The year is 1985, Art Angotti, who was known in Indianapolis as the “ultimate entrepreneur” and has worked to bring a Major League Baseball team to the city. Angotti for years has led Artistic Media Partners, which owns 20 radio stations and has promised to bring Major League Baseball to the Circle City.

On the streets of Downtown this summer, it hasn’t been odd to see people walking about wearing Indianapolis Arrows T-shirts. Angotti has been one of them.

A news conference was held in February of this year (1985). Officials from Indianapolis Baseball, Inc. — a group of local investors put together by Angotti, business leaders and philanthropist Thomas Binford — announced the city’s new major league team would be called the Arrows.

It has now been announced that Indianapolis Baseball Inc has purchased the Pittsburgh Pirates and will be relocating them to Indianapolis for the 1986 season as the Indianapolis Arrows. Their AAA affiliate will be the Fort Wayne Wizards.

The Arrows will play the newly built 45000 seat Circle City Ballpark.

  10. With OOTP GO being released this week, I figured I needed to make a dynasty on it. Think I'll keep up to date and have more fun with it then OOTP on desktop, as if I'm home I'm normally playing The Show and not OOTP. With my local AAA Indy Indians being triple A affiliate of the Pirates, decided to start a dynasty with Pittsburgh.

    ________________________________

(PITTSBURGH, PA) --- With the change in weather, it's time for another season in the MLB. The Pirates who haven't made the playoffs since 2015 and has only made the playoffs 3 times since 1992, announced changes the hiring of a new GM. Fans haven't had much to cheer about for a long time in Pittsburgh, management is hoping that changes soon.

    Starting Rotation:

    kalbhO0.jpg

The Pirates will be lead by 24 year old Mitch Keller. Keller only played 5 games last season for the Pirates, going 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA. In 2019 he started 19 games in AAA Indianapolis, accumulating a 7-5 record with a 7-5 record.

    Bullpen:

    iYC7tG4.jpg

The player to watch could be 21 year old Luis Oviedo. The question will be whether the young kid can make the leap straight to the majors, has not played higher then A ball before this season.

    Fielders:

    u0a5W9q.jpg

    B2HZu72.jpg

The fielders will be lead by 24 year old third baseman, Ke'Bryan Hayes. The outfield could be the weak link for the Pirates.

The Buccos start the season with 6 games vs the Chicago Cubs (3 away, 3 at home), with a 3 game series at the Cincinnati Reds in between the 6 Cubs games.

Mighty Ducks pick up shootout win

The Detriot Red Wings jumped out to a early 2-0 lead in the 1st period. Erik Haula and Filip Hronek both scored their first goals of the season. Vladislav Namestnikov got his first assist of the season on the Haula goal and Danny DeKeyser got his first assist on the Hronek goal.

The Mighty Ducks would get back to within one with just under 7 minutes remaining in the first period when Ryan Getzlaf was able redirect a Silfverberg shot to sneak one past Jimmy Howard. Jakob Silfverb (2) and Rickard Rakell (3) got the assists.

The 2nd period featured only one goal, when 25 year old winger Danton Heinen scored his 7th of the season. The lone assist went to Adam Henrique, his 5th of the season. The teams would remain stalemate throughout the 3rd period and go into overtime tied at 2.

And it would take 3 rounds of the shootout for either team to get one past the opposing goalie when Danton Heinen scored and Tyler Bertuzzi was unable to match him. The Mighty Ducks would take the 3-2 win.

The Mighty Ducks have now won 7 straight games. When head coach Dallas Eakins was able his thoughts on the 7-0 start he said “It’s a long season of ebbs and flows. We will lose one soon and then more then that. We just have to look at the long term future.”

We have no official numbers but I would guess the exits saw alot of action after the 1st period. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim saw themselves with a 5-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. It started just 1:15 into the game when Derek Grant scored his 2nd of the season with both teams 5 on 5. Maxime Comtois (2) and Kodie Curran (2) picked up the assists. 58 seconds later both Comtois and Curran would pick up assists again, this time on a Carter Rowney goal, his first of the season. At the 14:39 mark Josh Manson would score a shorthanded goal, with the assist going to Hampus Linholm (1). It was the first goal of the year for Manson. With just 2 seconds remaining in the 1st, Ryan Getzlaf would score his 4th of the season with the assist going to Kevin Shattenkirk (2).

The Islanders would get 2 goals back when Josh Bailey got his 1st of the season and Anthony Beauvillier scored his 5th. The Ducks would add another at the 19:34 mark with Nicolas Deslauriers scoring his 1st of the season.

The Islanders would add one midway through the 3rd period but Mighty Ducks take the 6-3 win. 2020 NHL Season Preview
With the National Hockey League season about to get underway, the early Stanley Cup favorites appear to be Tampa Bay, led by winger Nikita Kucherov. General Manager Julien BriseBois has built a squad that will be the team to beat this year, but they can expect challenges from Don Sweeney’s Boston Bruins and Toronto, featuring winger Mitch Marner.

Among the darkhorses, Vegas stands out as a possible challenger, with a big season by Mark Stone capable of pushing them into contender status.

The scoring race will likely see Edmonton’s Connor McDavid challenged by Nikita Kucherov of Tampa Bay and Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon.

The top defenceman in the league is generally considered to be Nashville Predators blueliner Roman Josi, with Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman and John Carlson of Washington also in the running.

Finally, among goaltenders, Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy stands out as the league’s best, while Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck and John Gibson of Anaheim can also steal games for their teams.

  15. With Franchise Hockey manger 7 being released this past week, it was time for a new Dynasty. Hopefully one I actually make it a few seasons into. My original thought was doing a "what if" 1979 season. What if the NHL took all 7 WHA teams, including Wayne Gretzky's Indianapolis Racers. But that's gonna take alot more time to set up with logos and rosters. So for the time being, I'm gonna start with a modern day NHL dynasty. Please welcome back, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

    Anaheim announces changes

    mighty-ducks-weekly-2.jpg?w=1024

In a surprise move the Anaheim Ducks are making multiple changes in the organization. Up first is the team name and branding. For the first time since the 2005-2006 season the team will once again be called the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. They will also be reverting back to their inaugural logos and jerseys. Anaheim won the Stanley Cup the first year they dropped the “Mighty” but they have not been to the Stanley Cup Finals in the past 13 seasons since.

The Mighty Ducks also announced a new GM in the same press conference. After back to back seasons of not qualifying for the playoffs and getting swept by in-state rival the San Jose Sharks the last time they did make the playoffs, ownership announced it was time to look for new or in this case old blood.

Taking over the GM responsibilities for the newly renamed Mighty Ducks will be a very familiar face for Duck fans, the teams 1st ever draft pick and 4th overall in 1993, Paul Kariya. Kariya played for the Ducks for 9 seasons from 1994-2003.

Changes in AHL affiliate for the Mighty Ducks

    cincinnati_mighty_ducks_1999-2005.png?w=

In other news the the team announced they have also changed their AHL affiliation and have cut ties with the San Diego Gulls, who have been their affiliate since 2015. The Mighty Ducks have annoucned they are bringing back the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to the AHL. Cincinnati was the affiliate from 1997-2005.

The Mighty Ducks open preseason tomorrow night against instate rivals San Jose Sharks. The Sharks finished 8th in the Pacific last season, going 29-36 and failing to qualify for the playoffs.

I am curious what everyone does when playing certain sports games.  Do you play just play as a GM, coach or both?  For those of you that coach/manage do you playout each game or sim?

For me it depends on the sport.  For FM, college basketball and OOTP I tend to coach out/manage games.  This tends to make seasons last longer, but I feel that I get more immersion.  For pro basketball or football I just want take on the GM role.

    Thanks for the answers.

9 times out of 10 it's GM only, unless I'm doing a college style game where there isn't really a gm.
