Almost like a spreadsheet view of each player and their numerical ratings.  I attached what I started with my QBs.  It may be in the game, I just haven't been able to find it yet.

    End of year review
So how did my team get on following the approach outlined in the steps above.  Well we finished rank #10, having gone undefeated all season (albeit not playing any high ranked teams and being in a relatively low status division).  Or overall recruiting was sucessful with the following showing the overall results:
The only real worry and gap is at Centre - where we will only have 3 seniors, all of whom will be final year Seniors next year(assuming none declare early and are picked in the NFL draft).  This will be a real focus for recruiting next year and I already have a lead for a junior 3* centre that I targeted half way through the year.
My overall recruiting class for this first year is as follows:
Plus a 2* FB on the bottom, which I couldn't quite fit on screen, but was a contingency if my prime 4* FB didn't commit).  My bonus was getting Harlan Stamper a 5* CB, who I managed to recruit almost uncontested.  From those that rejected you'll see the number of running backs that turned my side down through the year - I really struggled to find RBs that would commit to my team, so ended thankfully with a 4* (Robert Murray) and a 3* JUCO transfer (Jack Frakes); hopefully with solid training I will be able to establish some form of running game next year, rather than being so one-dimensionally pass heavy.  I managed what I think is a good balance of 12 Seniors, focussed on filling immediate needs and 7 mostly 4* Juniors which will take some of the immediate pressure off recruiting next year).
Some final highlights after the first season:

9 players drafted, including the 9th overall draft pick.  The records show how pass heavy the offense was that first year with nearly 6,000 yards in the air and less than 1,000 on the ground.  The teams overall reputation rating increased to 72 and the presetige sky-rocketed with the 9 players drafted by the NFL.  All in all, a season way above expectation for a smaller college with limited football legacy.
As a final bonus I'll finish on the main thing I wished I'd known the first time I played this through (and a call back to earlier).  At the start of the second year, remember to set training patterns for all your new recruits (and the walk-ons once they arrive).  This was something that totally passed me by on my first playthough.  I assumed that as I only had a single default training pattern, all the new players would slot in.  They don't and I wondered why all the new recruits didn't live up to their hype.  Several seasons in I found the players tab of the training menu and realised all the post-year 1 players had empty training assignments:
So thats it from me.  If you are reading this you've made it all the way to the end of this guide/walkthrough.  Thank you, I hope this was helpful as an overview of the main actions and decisions needed for the first season of prestige.  Good luck in your own path as Head Coaches.

CTGames reacted to Paul C in Introductions @ CTFM
I know it will be a bit late for you two, but I've added a thread in Dynasty Stories where I go through the key things I consider in the first year of a play through in Prestige mode, with posts on things such as Practice setup, recruitment strategy, identifying appropriate recruits, tweaking the depth chart and players I would target to red shirt and why.  I'm sure it won't cover everything (especially play design and play calling during games especially), but I hope it might be useful to some.  A word of warning, this has been developed by a player, based on my own experience of the game.  If you follow it, you may end up replicating bad habits / sub-optimal strategies I've use!

In this series of posts I'll be setting out what the key aspects that I undertake when starting with a new game / with a new team, starting with a low ranked team in the simulation version. It is based in part on watching the excellent video introductions available in this same section of the forum (in the post titled Lets Play Series), which I would encourage you to watch.
These experiences are based on version 0.8.5. I hope they are helpful to people just starting out, or contain a few extra bits that people didn't spot straight away (for me new roles and assigning training packages to new recruits passed me by!). They are based upon my experience and as such may not optimal nor do I suggest this is the only or best way to play. Similarly, if you want the experience of learning for yourself and the thrill of figuring out for yourself, please look away now.
What follows is a series of things I do over the first year of a season and the main screens and decisions that have to be made. I have focussed more on the mangement-side, so have not covered in-game play calling or designing plays (I generally leave that to my co-ordinators – that's what they are paid for!). As I'm writing this while creating a new season, I'll reserve some slots and will come back and edit those pages, when I get to that part of the series.
    July
In the first month I focus on the following areas (each will be subject to a separate follow on post):
    Delegations
    Setting initial recruitment targets
Setting & assigning training schemes (I'll include completing pre-season here which is set in late July buy impacts August)
    Evaluating walk ons
    Changing positions (optional)

    Just before first game
    Reviewing depth chart
    Red-shirting players
Strategy - co-ordinators play calling tendancies

    During season
    Review and amend depth charts
Reviewing recruitment & interacting with potential recruits

    Post-season
    Simming the bowl games
    Considering changes to coaches
Requesting new fixtures (can be done any time or left to coaching staff)

CTGames reacted to Paul C in Bugs / observations from 4 seasons in
These are some of my observations of gameplay and bugs, having run through four seasons on simulation mode, the first three with the Middle Tennessee Miners then trying a single season (mostly simmed) with Clemson. Excuse the wall of text; but I'm trying to give my observations in the spirit that they might help. These were all over the past couple of days on latest version.

    Huge positives
The overall recruiting felt really strong – I had to fight and scrap to discover any / every three star with Tennessee; where with Clemson, it generally just took expressing interest to bag a dozen 5 star recruits.
Game results seemed consistent with relative strengths of teams.

    Bugs
Prestige seems to be awarded way too much at end of season especially for players getting drafted to the NFL. On drafting players the prestige jumped from 7 to 292 in two years.
Prestige seems to follow the manager, rather than the club – moving to Clemson and the teams' prestige level was retained at this very high level.
Watching bowl games; these all started with scores displayed from previous game and after concluding showed a loss 0-0 after the game. Jumping to show scores rather than simming allowed a result to be calculated.
Most championships and rivalry games show twice in the history and championship table (minor presentational issue)
Coach evaluation & in-year targets – this seems to trigger at start of year, rather than end of previous year – thus in each year I resigned at Tennessee it stated I'd failed 3 out of 4 targets (when I had in fact made them all). The winning games target seems to stay incomplete throughout the year – I had a target for 3 wins in the first year and was showed incomplete throughout the year (after winning 10).
No Strength and Conditioning coaches in coaches menu. I fired mine and ended up hiring a special teams co-ordinator for the role. With limited data, injuries have seemed to increase, but not really enough data to know if this is the case.

    Potential engine issues
These are just my observations based upon a few seasons in a single play-through.
The passing game feels a little too strong overall at the moment. My 85 overall QB finished his freshman season with 104 TDs against 1 INT and 430 out of 495 passes complete. Most teams against me ended with c. 90% passing completions, but with far smaller average yardage gains.
The rushing game feels a little underwhelming – my running backs combined for approximately 2 yards per carry over the seasons with not a single breakaway for more than 5 yards (could just be due to the average running backs I had available, particularly their low speed levels).
Recruiting activities did not appear to 'move the needle' – things could have been going on behind the scenes, but I never saw an example of percentage interest for a team change following a phone call, meeting or after sending brochures, when in a recruiting battle.
Huge movements occasionally in pre-season training – I had 2* players turn into 5* and a 4* turn into a 1* during pre-season training. I think that is great when its new recruits (as the scouting could have been just way off), but it is a little more strange when its juniors and seniors changing. (I wish I'd kept better tabs on this to give better examples).
The pre-seasons gains seemed to be inversely affected by coaching skill. I got huge improvements in year 1 with existing roughly 50 skill level coaches; and much worse changes in year 2 (when I replaced all staff with c80 skill level coaches) and with my time at Clemson (albeit most of the players were 5* to start, so could only really go down!)
Head coach player reputation seemed stuck on 50 and didn't really move throughout my play-through
Co-ordinators didn't appear to ever switch to second or third string players during late quarter blowouts, when substitutions were handled by them or during fully simulated games; aside from injuries, only my starting players got reps all season long.
Occasionally would get emails stating previous year records were new one-game records.

    Potential future considerations
Coaches skill levels seemed to be static – it would be good, if there skills changed a little each off-season.
Ability for fan base to change over time – having won back-to-back championships, it would have been nice to see the fanbase to increase from 'very low' (it may just take more seasons).
Could just be my resolution settings, but when playing key plays only; the pop up screen directly covers the score, down and yards to go; requiring it to be moved before choosing a play.

Overall I've enjoyed my time experimenting with this game and in particular the feeling of scrapping for recruits at a lower team feels very strong. I hope these insights help in consolidating issues or give food for thought. I've several saved games at various stages of seasons, so may be able to recreate specific issues or screenshot examples if it helps – I didn't want to screenshot each thing as this post is long enough already

Under Settings you need to disable the CPU Assistance to handle coaches. Then you can click on your coaches under Home and you will see a Fire button on the coach page.  When you need to hire a new coach you click on a coach in the coaches view and the coach will have a Offer job button
