Good point, Eric, I believe all the past stats are kept in the database on the server, but not visible to us GM's in game.  This may become a feature in the future.

I would like to see a deeper statistical record tracking stats/rosters from past seasons.
I plan on running my team for a long time and I would like to be able to look back from time to time to see what my roster looked like in season 13/16/18, what the standings were that year, what the stats were.
I currently only see basic win-loss record info.

Maybe I haven't found the correct screen yet, but that's something that would interest me.

ColoKrabatt reacted to Wendel Clark in Affiliate teams & faceoffs
I don't know if this topic has been brought up or discussed before, but the logic behind affiliate games faceoffs might need to be reconsidered? I think centers would need to have higher priority than they do now. It looks like they have some priority, but even 1 or 2 point higher overall wingers and even defenders do seem to take more faceoffs than for example second highest center with even highest faceoff skill.

Examples from last season from my Dangles AAHL team:
Winger French, higher overall than Clear, faceoff skill 40: 363 faceoffs in 57 games.
Defender Blackmore, higher overall than Clear, faceoff skill 40: 86 faceoffs in 61 games.
Center Clear, lower overall, still slightly more icetime than French, faceoff skill 76: 61 faceoffs in 62 games.

So, winger taking over 6 faceoffs per game without skill, center not taking even 1 with skill, and even defender taking more. Centers seem to develop some faceoff skill even without taking or taking very little faceoffs, but isn't it so that the amount of faceoffs taken is a big factor considering how well they develop in that skill? And winger faceoffs seem to be a waste considering development: French has taken over 700 affiliate game faceoffs and his faceoff skill is still flatline 40.

In my experience changing the training hasn't done much if the player is a consistent player that gets injured. Go to a player's individual stats and check how many games he has played in each season and based off of that determine if he gets injured or not. like 5-10 games injured is fine like once every 5 seasons or something, but if it's more frequent then I suggest either trading him while he still has value or having a backup to play his role since he will probably get hurt. One thing that has worked for me is changing the tactics. I used to play on hard and players would get injured left right and center, so I decided to to play around with those tactics for one season. For every 20 games, I switched up the tactics each time(one time "Hard", next "Dirty", and so on). From that correlation I determined player injuries had something to do with those tactics. From that experiment, I learned that more injuries occur in "Dirty" tactic, then "Hard", then "Normal", then "Fair", and then "Safe". My team had 0 injuries when playing in Fair and Safe. Hope this helped.

It's just bad luck when you get a bunch of injuries like that. My worst luck was when I lost my 4 starting centers and half my d-men over a few day for multiple games and a couple have-season injuries.

What I find works to prevent injuries is to ensure my players are only playing when they are fully fit. For something more pro-active, I try is to build a team around non-injury-prone players. In my experience, when you check a players home page, look at his current headlines. Injury-prone players will generally have multiple injuries listed over multiple seasons. Though injury-prone studs can hide their past injuries by getting player of the week/stars of the game. I've read somewhere on this forum before that injury-likeliness (durability?) is a hidden stat in this game, but you can sort of guess what it would be just by seeing how often a player gets injured. (I think when this game was first being developed durability was actually a visible stat.) Unfortunately I don't think age has anything to do with injury rates as I've had a bunch of old veterans on my team the past few seasons and none of them have been injured.

    TL;DR: It's definitely not a bug.

Completed players (maybe around 25-26) should want to play for the team, no matter of what tier (ideally in the league of their overall) but they should refuse to stay in affiliate (traits could be taken in consideration). There should be possibility that they could terminate contract after season and become free agents or go straight to Europe.

Not everybody but some movement is needed and it could work slightly like roster limit.

ColoKrabatt reacted to Paul T in Trade Deadline earlier in the season
For possible fall release... I think having a trade deadline earlier in the season would be beneficial for a few reasons.  I will use Days 55 as an example (which falls around Game 50).

Also to go along with this suggestion, I would also recommend that those players who are "happy with their current contract", be open to re-negotiating or flat our refusing to re-sign around Day 45 (around Game 40).

    1) First, I think it would add some excitement to the game mid-season, giving managers another milestone to look forward to.  Preparing for the draft is exciting.  Silly season/free agency is exciting.  The playoff race toward the end of season is exciting + actual playoffs.  Why not add something in the middle for managers to look forward to?

Around Day 45, players are either willing to re-sign with your team or refuse to re-sign.  You then have 10 days to get your trades in before Day 55.  Personally, I think it would be an exciting 10 days of managers trying to wheel and deal before the deadline hits.  Then all managers must live with their decisions for the remaining 10 regular season games and through the playoffs.

    2) Second, it would require managers to be proactive and take calculated risks based on their expected finish.  It would eliminate teams from making those final day trades to stack their teams for relegation - and would also not allow managers to trade expiring contracts on the final day of the season, which caused an issue this past season.

    3) Finally, this is how professional sports are run - and I know that as a fan, I get really excited around the trade deadline every year in anticipation of what trades will be made.

ColoKrabatt reacted to Jack Reacher in Draft Preferences
So Draft preferences help you to order your picks and prospects you want. So basically if you have the first overall pick, if the draft preferences are not selected, the computer will automatically take your #1 pick, but if you do have a preference, select the player you want and then go horizontally across to a drop down bar which is set to any pick. Change that to one of the drop down options, which will be "first round pick", "second round pick", or "third round pick". This ensures that the prospect you want will be chose n with the right pick. But also remember to set draft preferences to "use shortlist over rank", so the computer chooses from the players you want instead of the ranked ones in the draft. Hopefully that helped.

I'm new to this too, but if you are taking the time to make your shortlist and put it in order, you'll usually want to select the option "shortlist only".  For your 12th player to be selected, you must have had some other option selected.

ColoKrabatt reacted to Paul T in Prospect Reputation
I'm not sure how much importance a prospects reputation has since they can change over time and it also might be based on which league they are in.  For example, a Shooting Star in a lesser league would be equal to a Decent prospect in the Canadian league.

In terms of best to worst, (I think) it goes:
    1. Shooting Star
    2. Up and Coming
    3. Promising
    4. Hot Prospect
    5. Decent Prospect

For your first draft I would take Erzac's advice.  Use a combination of Overall and factor in Development.  And make sure that the player's ratings fit your overall tactics (unless you want to use them as trade bait, then just take best available regardless of specific ratings).

Personally, I haven't given much thought to reputation when drafting.

Mostly I pay attention to how players have progressed in their past season(s), as well as their performance and stats. There are sometimes prospects that look lucrative on draft day because of overall etc, but might have very slow development, and in the worst case never be ready for a roster spot.

This is an interesting point you made. While I wouldn't condone that sort of behaviour, I would definitely try to trade out my players if they're decent and say they are not interested in re-signing. Otherwise, I would lose my investment in the player just going to free agency.

It backs up the argument in one of my threads that says the trade deadline should be around day 45 or 50, and that renewing a player's contract should be possible even if the player is 'happy'. That way if you make that mistake, you still have 10 days for the player to consider a new offer.

Option B could be a clause that says no trades on players with less than a minimum time on their contract, or that players must decided within 2 days of an offering, to help reduce this occurring.

I was going to say the same thing as PG.  I'm not sure if there was any ill intent behind the initial trade offer.  But having a trade deadline much earlier in the season would help prevent this type of scenario.

Not a bad idea but imo it would be nice to have a second round also determined by standings, like the highest placed team faces the lowest placed team. That way, if 1st, 5th, 6th and 7th win, 1st will take on 7th and 5th will take 6th. I think it would be more representative of the work done in the season to be among the top 4 teams.

ColoKrabatt reacted to MattBerserkers in Minor change to the GHL playoff format
Currently in the GHL, the playoff structure looks like:

    Series A: Rank 1 vs Rank 8
    Series B: Rank 2 vs Rank 7
    Series C: Rank 3 vs Rank 6
    Series D: Rank 4 vs Rank 5

    Series E: Winner A vs Winner B
    Series F: Winner C vs Winner D

Final: Winner E vs Winner F

The current path ensures that there will never be the top 2 teams fighting it out in the finals. It also makes it so that the teams rank 4th and 5th have the highest chance at getting the easiest path to the cup. And since the 5th place team is also entered into a better playoff lottery compared to the top 4 teams, it makes it the ideal position from a purely playoffs and potential future success standpoint. My suggestion is to simply change the following series:

    Series E: Winner A vs Winner D
    Series F: Winner C vs Winner B

A salary dump is a salary dump, computer team or not. Being on the lucky end of them isn't cheating. The Hornets got better because they put in the effort:

The Valley Dogs cleared $5.2 million in 1w contracts in that deal. They're currently 1 defender short on their top team, and have a 28yr. old 95ovr. D-man in their affiliate. His $3.8 million salary will just fit under the $4.2 million in space they have now.

Instead of calling them cheaters, I'm going to tip my cap in the Hornets direction... way to out-compete the rest of us this pre-season!

This appears to be an ongoing issue in Lumber. Managers need to start stepping up and reporting others for abusing CPU teams in trades. It's really starting to get annoying.

    This is not acceptable -

Terrace Hornets: A 97 overall (33 years old, top line center)A 94 overall (28 years old, second line forward) CPU team (Falconbridge Valley Dogs) A 84 overall (useless in GHL)A 79 overall (useless in GHL)Two 3rd round picks (nearly useless)A 1st round pick (only balanced thing in this trade)
