Paul T got a reaction from MattBerserkers in Team Focus & Special Teams
    Hi all,

Just curious whether team Focus also applies during the power play and penalty kill?

For example, if I set my Focus when up by 3 goals to Very Defensive, and go on the Power Play, will my team play very defensive while on the power play?  Or does that automatically shift to Offensive?  And vice versa while on the Penalty Kill.

I assume that Focus does not apply during special teams play, but figured I would ask to be sure.

    Thanks,
    Paul

With the last update goalies should now be more affected by fatigue. Before the update you could start your goalie even if exhausted without too much of a rating penalty. That's not the case any more. Exhausted goalies will perform much worse now. But it can be adjusted further, without a doubt. Especially when it comes to goalie injuries. There are almost no injuries to goalies right now and it's something I will have a closer look at for upcoming releases. Playoff performance and fatigue is another interesting subject.

Regarding multiple accounts, Rainsilent is right. The game is designed for one account per person. But not saying it's anything wrong with creating more than one. But features and limitations will be developed with that in mind. And why adding the player numbers to the all star account? I didn't like removing a feature from the free accounts but it was a feature that suited the all star template, a customization feature that didn't affect your team performance. And I needed to make the all star more attractive since the game really needs the income to stay alive. Sorry if it disappoints anyone.

One additional observation, for what it's worth, my goalie who was a part of all 3 OT/SO games has 1208 minutes played.  To this point, neither of my goalies have been pulled this year.  The goalie in question has started 20 games (1200 / 60 = 20), which means the extra 8 minutes are from OT.  Having gone to 3 OTs, the minutes don't add up.

From my previous posts, the OT times have stopped at 4:30, 0:00, 2:00.  Adding 30 seconds to each time gives a total of 8 minutes.  There is definitely something happening that is cutting the OT periods short (and it seems to be very random).

I don't care all that much about it, just thought I'd help toward the research here...

Another shootout.  This time there was action for the first 2:00 of OT, then nothing for the final 3 mins.

Same players shot for my team again (all Line 1 players).  In order:  RW, LW, C, LD, RD.  Same order from my other two SOs.  We were tied after 5 shots.  The 6th shooter was the LW on my Line 2.  My opponents rotation made no sense to me.

    And I finally won one.

It would be really cool if you could update your SO lineup.

Looking at play-by-play reports, it seems that injuries are very much tied to getting hit and being in the receiving end of infractions like high-sticking. Since goalies don't get hit etc. they seemingly only get injured by some (apparently very low) random injury chance, and like said, maybe tiredness plays a part there.

I'm reading through this thread and from what I can see, an "RFA" will basically be a 21 year old too good for his league that is willing to negotiate in a lower league because that is the team that drafted them.

Yes, this will undoubtedly increase the amount of homegrown players, but it will also be very much abusable by top GHL and SHL teams who are able to stockpile talent, especially with the new affiliate team system.

It's simply not feasible or realistic to have one of your prospects automatically sign with you just because you drafted them, if they are way above your league.

Two realistic suggestions/solutions to this is either:

Force "RFA's" to sign with you no matter what, but for a fixed salary above the league average (basically an overpriced entry level contract)$1,000,000 in Gold $500,000 in Silver $250,000 in Bronze $100,000 in Iron $50,000 in Lower Iron When a player is drafted by your team, increase their loyalty so that their interest in signing with you increases Otherwise, I can't see RFA's working in this game.

I understand what you guys are getting at with lower tier teams needing to be able to keep some of their rising talent. But just as you think I'm missing something needed in lower leagues, you guys are missing what would happen in the top leagues. Things would not get tougher, but a lot easier for the best teams to stay the best. I'll use my favourite world, Fishbowl, to try and explain the potential problem to you guys.

The team in the best position is without a doubt the Larson Knights. They've achieved 1st place in the GHL for 6/9 seasons and made 2nd place twice. They've got the best average overall at 90.8 while second place has an overall of 88.7 and the average is 87.1. Without checking everybody, they've also got one of the lowest total salaries for their team (possibly the lowest) with 7.8mil in free space. This was recently free space added with the cheap cap hits for assigned players. The Knights also have one of the deepest, if not the deepest, pool of up-and-coming prospects. Before the recent cap relief (and it will eventually catch up to him again) from affiliates, the way other teams were able to slowly catch up and the Knights biggest problem was the fact that he had to release either star players or else his young stars to free agency as he couldn't afford them and the talent would dilute itself to more teams. If RFA's are added, he can keep his starts and ignore his young budding stars until their salary demands go down and is super cheap. If it a greedy player or if there still isn't enough salary room, he can still hold onto the young star because of the exclusive rights that RFA's would provide and his competition will remain slightly easier because less talent is going around.
*note: Kelvin, if you are reading this, I am not mad at you for having a super successful team, I'm just using you as an easy example of an OP team

The problem with RFA's isn't that it's a bad idea or that I want bad teams to remain bad, the problem is that it creates new issues in other parts of a world. I want to play the best game that I can and want to help provide and develop the best suggestions that positively affect the game and provide minimal issues elsewhere in the game. It's why I brought up the possible alternate suggestion of a loyalty personal trait that wouldn't influence a players potential salary but would encourage slightly better young guys to resign with the team that drafted them while not giving any advantage to GHL teams.
*When I re-read this paragraph, I thought it sounded like I'm taking some offense and getting defensive, so I thought I'd mention that I'm not

There are multiple ways to build a winning team. The LIHL and maybe the IHL do suffer from teams being unable to keep their budding stars, but that is the problem that I think we are trying to solve with this thread. Yes, free agency is another way to build a successful team and sometimes you can get caught doing exactly that every season. My favorite tactic in the LIHL and IHL involves a little bit of growing and free agency over several seasons. I just sign as many growing young guys (21-23, and low 60's overall) as I can afford to 3-4 year deals or longer if I really like the player. The guys that grow fast I keep and the ones that don't I move to the minors or else try and trade them away for players that are out of a contract sooner. After 3-4 seasons, you should have a really strong team and you should be able to afford a few vets to, as you mentioned, push your team over the edge.

edit: somehow I copied/pasted this post twice when trying to get in the paragraph for cammi, so I just deleted the repetition.

    Savage Storm upend Timberwolves 5-2

SLAUGHTERVILLE, OK. The Savage Storm handily beat the visiting team last night, and boy was it a rough one. Credited with 23 hits, the home team spanked the Coquitlam Timberwolves on the boards and in the corners, and skated away from most of the physical play initiated by the visitors. After the first period, the Storm took a one goal lead and ground out the last two periods to a 5-2 final score.

Storm defenseman Lucas Calello shared the team lead of 3 hits last night and pitched in with a helper. "It's nice to be able to contribute on the gamesheet, but I feel better about beating on those wimpy SHL wannabees."

'Wolves backup goalie Joen Berg put on a brave face after the game, having let 5 out of 35 shots get by him. "Coach let me know with 10 minutes to go that I'd be playing, and I guess I just couldn't find my angles in time." Shortly after the buzzer sounded, Berg's twitter account listed a post that read, "Hey @BergerFries -- I found you this protractor goo.gl/ZzHVZs. Luv Mum."

While the Coquitlam coach was quick to get on the bus to their next game at Pinehurst -- a 1,200 mile trip -- their assistant manager, Notta H. Uman, was happy to comment on the game. "The team had some tactical difficulties offensively against our opponent's defence. The opponent's defense and goalie was superior to our team's goal scoring in today's game. The opponent's defense was superior to our team's offense in today's game. The body checking of our opponent's offense was superior to our team's defense in today's game." The guy did not shut up. "At least the team did very well tactically during powerplay against our opponent's penalty killing." Also, the Wolves did not score one powerplay goal.

The Storm's coach liked their compete level. "I think that we..." The rest of his statement was boring and had five spelling errors.

The Timberwolves play the Razorbacks at 12am tonight. Maybe we'll think about broadcasting it.

I definitely agree on the pre-season games being restricted to Fair or Avoid physical.  Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Also, for what it's worth, I have played on HARD and DIRTY 4 times combined in the past 2 seasons (the Dirty was against a team that spanked me the game before so I was out for revenge ).  In those 4 games combined, 3 of my players got injured and only 1 of my opponents got injured.  Not sure if others have experienced the same, but it feels risky for your own team to play that way.

On the topic of injuries though - my best player was injured for 9 games right before the playoffs last year.  The other team was not playing hard or dirty.  I feel like it's just part of the game.  Yeah, it sucks, but it happens.  If anything, it challenges you to get creative with your lineup - and it makes you think about resting star players during pre-season games or near the end of the season depending upon where you are in the standings.

If you want to really get frustrated with injuries, try playing fantasy (American) football.

    That's my 3 cents...

If anyone has thought me to be a cheater please shoot me a message in Gameplan and I would gladly discuss with you any sort of tactic or reasoning that I employ. I in no way endorse cheating and very much dislike anyone pursuing that means of play. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Realsim. With ”realistic feeling” I don´t mean the use of real player and team names. It was never an issue that I couldn’t play with my favourite team Ottawa Senators and sign Sidney Crosby to the team. What I´m looking for is much more subtle. I want to get the feeling that there is real persons behind the all the numbers and facts. I missed a game where the psychological values played an equal part to all the numbers.

Well, you nailed it!  I don't know where this game as been all my life as I immediately became addicted.  Anders has really done a fantastic job with everything and I'm glad to have found this game.

    Hey all,

If I didn't already make it clear in my recent introductory post, I love just about everything about this game - so if nothing changes, it's all good with me.  After managing for a full season, the two minor suggestions I will make are:

    1. The ability to add player traits to the filter when searching for players.  Example: Say you're looking for a first line center with at least 85 Passing and 90 Spirit - and you also want to make sure he's not a Cocky A-Hole .  It would be cool to be able to check off the traits you are looking for (and want to avoid) in your searches.

    2. Email notifications upon receiving team messages.  This is just a personal preference.  I log on just about every day to check things out anyways, but as someone who manages both work and personal emails from my phone, it would be nice to have an email notification option when new messages are received (game results, player improvements, trades, etc.).

Also, just wanted to add my 2 cents on the help files.  I think the amount of guidance that has been provided is perfect.  It gives you just enough knowledge to get started - and the answers to many other questions can be found if you look hard enough.  I think knowing exactly what needs to be done to make a successful team, in some ways, takes the fun out of it.  So far I've enjoyed getting to know my team, trying different things, seeing what works and what doesn't (trying players in different roles, on different lines, you get the point).  I want my team to be successful, but the fun part is the journey to get there, not the immediate success.  Just figured I'd share that.

    Thanks for reading.
