Walter A. Donaldson reacted to Deadwing in DEF Tactics
Offensive tactic is an offensive tactic and a defensive tactic  is a defensive tactic. I think you're approaching the subject a little wrong, just like I did when I started. Instead of trying to figure out which defensive tactic offers the best support for offense, look at which defensive tactic counters a given offensive tactic, and go from there. Setting your defenders to support offense, staying at home and help your goalie or play both ways is set line by line on the "team" page and picking "line up" from the sidebar pull down menu titled "action". Each of your line has additional settings you can choose, also from a pull down menu.

    Hope this helps some.

it has been so long that I don't remember what the base wages are per level anymore.  It is somewhere in the forum though I will have a look.  I do however have a good understanding of the salary jumps.

It matches the increase of salary cap which is 3.3 times I believe for that level "IF" the salary will be "below" the base wage for the next level after that calculation.

If it ends up more than the base level after the previous calculation it is the higher value of these 2 options...

    1. current salary x 1.25

    2. Promoted league's base salary

OK I was wrong... LIHL to IHL is just double in cap so is only times 2.  However a base salary is 25k in LIHL and 50k in IHL.

as 69k is already above the IHL base... it will be times 1.25 like you had said

It's been that way for a long time (+6 months).  It's more a nuisance than a problem, but would be nice to see if it can be fixed.

Hey, I just noticed that if you accidentally remove a draft pick when offering a trade, the game doesn't let you add the draft pick back without opening a new trade menu.

Honestly, I think it might be an age thing. The goalie I've been rocking for quite a few seasons now has still been slowly increasing about 1 overall per season. However, he's always had a save percentage of about .900, this season he turned 25 and his save percentage jumped up to .946. All of my defensemen are the same (they are also really good which definitely boosts the save percentage), so the other factor that really changed is the goalies age.

I have a feeling there's no real formula behind it. Rating inflation is probably making things unpredictable, especially in higher leagues.

I have to agree as far as goalies are concerned. There are so many times I see fit and higher rated goalies have a percentage less than 0.900.

However for the sake of trying to work through this, examine your defense to see what you can do to improve the coverage.
What are your defense's strengths and weakness, what strategy are they on?

Today I discovered what the Old Mariners team became, they are the Goldenville Commandos of the LIHL. Not sure what happened to the Old guard of that old team.

The Original Mariners sort of disappeared from hockey, but the team name was not dead just sleeping. The Bakersville Beasts were a struggling team, needing a new Owner, Gerald Compton, son of the Founder of the Original Mariners, purchased the team in season 40, and brought back the Old Name, and two familiar faces. Don Werner and Walter Donaldson, both men who had been really out of hockey for the last 16 seasons, returned.

Coach Donaldson and Manager Werner, immediatly changed things, Naming Bert Montplaisir Captain, and bringing in some solid players, Including, Jack Grace, Jack "the Yack" Slammer, Frank "Stick Man" Pine, Antonio Bachmann, and Sammy Davisson. Though the team finished in fourteenth, they managed to keep their spot in the SHL. The Next Offseason was a lulu, bringing in Matt Rosato, and Mav Moses, two very good players. The team has finished this past Season out of the Play offs but higher in the standings then the Previous season, the Mariners look to be a promising, bunch a player here and there and they will have maybe a contender.

The Menahga Mariners are a Storied Franchise, Originally founded by George Compton of Menahga, who ran a small Cargo shipping company, and to honor the Sailors of old, naming them the Mariners. They were a Solid team, but struggling in the BHL, never cracking the Play offs.
So in season 18, they hired General Manager Don Werner, Formerly of The Mckinleyville Rangers, Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds, and Bakersville Patriots. He in turn hired former player turned Coach Walter A. Donaldson, affectionately known as Bean Pole due to his thin and tall look, though not really tall, he just looked that way standing at 5'10 and 170 pounds. Bean Pole, took the Mariners to 12th place in season 18, in season 19, he took them to 8th place.

In season 20, some changes came in, five veterans joined the Club and seemed to turn the trick to success, their names were Andy Dear, Josh Vezeau, Mo Mason, Mavrick Smith, and Joe Starnes. These five would lead the Mariners to 2nd place, behind the Ogema Outlaws, Going 39 (including OTWs), 16, and 5. Joe Starnes posted a fine 2.15 GAA and a .935 SV %. Dear Put up an excellent 45 +/- and adding 5 goals, 34 assists for 49 points he also led the league in PIM with 139, with Vezeau putting up 3 goals, as well as 32 assists for 35 points, Mason scored 12 Goals, adding 38 Assists, for 50 Pts. Mavrick Smith,  scored an Impressive 35 goals, and 28 assists for 63 Points. The Three defensemen became Mariners in season 18 but did not find Prominence until season 20, Smith and Starnes arrived in season 20.

They would have a Solid beginning in the SHL Finishing 8th in their Inaugural SHL season, but things slowed up in season 22, as they dropped to 12th, the following year they fell to 13th. The Next year the team got off to a slow start, much due to Coach Donaldson's Health trouble and he was often away from the Team. Manager Werner had family troubles as his Wife died, causing him to resign mid-season, Coach Donaldson followed soon after. The first Years under Werner and Donaldson, were done, but far from over.

Walter A. Donaldson reacted to MattBerserkers in Q about "Winner instinct"
For a heroic winners instinct you need:

*at most 1, maybe 2 nervous players in your line-up
*at most, only a few anxious players
*a few heroic players, but not too many
*the remaining players either be responsible or else determined. Preferably determined

Things that might help, but I'm not sure/haven't tested:
*Captains with a green big game trait
*enough backup players with a decent big game trait in case of injuries (my awkward phrasing to avoid double shifting players)

*I'm not sure if contract happiness has any effect, however, I do know that teams play worse with frustrated players
*I don't think recent performance affects winner's instinct, but it does have an effect on confidence
*players not currently in the line-up have a minimal effect on team spirit traits. Adding an extra 50 determined players to your team won't really change anything, so just spend your cap on a better player instead

I had some concerned players ("Doesn't feel appreciated by the club") and after offering them extensions they were happy again. Also I feel that giving them more ice-time could help but haven't tried it yet.

Okey, for starters. It don't mean that the trade is "in favor of CPU team" when orange is on your side!

For example, If You're trying to get winger from team which have just six of them, for Dman which they have I don't know like ten or more.... This is really not reasonable trade offer and CPUs aren't dumb anymore!

You must think harder, You can't compare just skater with skater! You must have in mind what that team is needing.

Plain and simply, if you aren't happy with how the trading system is now then you were one of the people that was taking advantage of the trading system before. Like I've said elsewhere, if the new trading system forces you to leave the game then that's good for the rest of us. Through natural selection we'll establish a base of managers who love the direction this game is heading.

I completely disagree with this - in fact I have great trade relationships within each league and enjoy the communications with all managers. I think it has made it better as more human managers are now talking way more!

Personally the only reason to play online manager games comes from human interaction and competition between human managers. It's exciting to see how different managers build their teams and how it works out. Working out trades between two teams, to try to find a good deal for both is one of the most interesting things to do in-game.

Also, there are already great single-player hockey manager games out there to play.

personally i have only ever had a few interactions with human players since most are "on holidays" and fortunately i have had great success making trades with CPU. (Even had my account blocked due to "cheating") Havent seen a worthwhile trade go through in a while.. but isnt that the nature of sports? Dont see too many big swaps in pro sports anymore either.

    For what it's worth...

    (1) I think it's still easy to trade with COM teams, but you gotta be willing to give up something of value to get exactly what you're looking for.  I don't think you can "stack" your team this way, but you can definitely improve an area of need if you have depth, and are willing to give up a few assets, elsewhere.

    (2) I love the improved trading logic because it prevents teams from "stacking up" without losing anything of value.

    (3) Does anyone else see yellow?  It's orange on my screen.
