Haradrim got a reaction from Mee6 in Release: Fall 2018 (Just to keep you posted!)
I respect each of the changes, but I fear the subscription idea will be the end of the road for a lot of the current users. A realistic expectation is that the managers that currently have All-Star accounts will probably pay the subscription and I suppose this will be the starting point. From then on, problems may arise.

First of all, the idea of a subscription means that many users will not afford it. What buys an icecream in the US or Sweden will feel far more costly in Eastern Europe, for example. Then there is a difference between choosing to contribute (through a donation or an All-Star account) and having to contribute. Psychologically it is easier to attract paying customers through the first option.

The biggest problem is that without a lot of marketing, the game will fail to attract a lot of paying users, so most worlds will be scarcely populated and the game will not be attractive even to those who will choose to pay for a few months. It will not have a community (like it was promising to do) but customers. I may be a sceptic, but I fail to see how new (paying) users will arive in large numbers.

Anders and Glawing: why not try another Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign before taking the game to be pay-to-play? Even if you guys just raise enough funds to offset needing to be pay-to-play for a year, that's still a year longer for players to save up or go without having to spend money thanks to the donations of others who can, kind of like a supercharged version of what All-Stars and Contributors do now.

I'd be willing to pay for 'perks' (Kickstarter exclusive logos or jersey styles? Maybe some sort of Kickstarter backer designation?) or even a lifetime lump-sum fee to avoid having to pay a montly $7 for my two teams.

I'm actually most unhappy about having to pay for separate teams. It means I have to choose one team to dump because I can't justify paying $7 to play. If I really want to, I can swing $3.50 a month. But honestly? Right now I don't really want to, especially when we have to build teams from scratch and I'm not 'attached' to any players yet. One month free might help that, sure, but one of my favorite things about the game is that it IS free, and you can pay IF you want to.

It's hard to recommend a pay-to-play game to people even if it is free for the first month.

I urge you guys to consider a Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign. As a perk, it would bring in new managers and if you can keep the game going guaranteed free for say, at least a year because of it, then at the end of the year you may have even more people willing to pay.

I'm just not sure I'll be one of them.

I don't think you really understand the question and the principle. It is not a matter of being cheap and, as for me, I would be ok wherever Anders chooses to take the game. It is however worrying to legitimize being part of the decision through money. True, this is the world we live in, but it doesn't mean being so ready to appalud it as you seem to be.

For the financial side, the game could be helped through donations and that way it could survive as an equal community as it does happen in some communities on the net. Keep in mind that the amount one pays for the game is - in terms of affordability - different from a country to another, so it is unfair not to take that into consideration.

It has always been my impression that the main satisfaction Anders gets out of creating this game is that it could be enjoyed by anyone responsibly on an equal basis. What you support is unfortunately a two-tiered system in which decisions that affect the whole community are reserved for a privileged few.

So, again: I want everyone to have a vote, not (just) me and not just you.

So that means that important decisions like this are taken by those having All Star accounts and not by the whole community?

We will soon announce some big news about the game here in the forums. We apologize for the late answers and feedback to everyone but here in Sweden we do have holidays and vacation right now which make everything going a bit slower than usual.

Have patience a couple of more days and everyone should be getting all info needed.

Keep enjoying the game and community while waiting.

Important, nonimportant and basically all decision have been, are and will be only on Anders. (and probably Glawing too, I don't know how much exactly he's involved in decisions but I'm sure he knows about all Anders plans) It's his game, he's giving it to the whole community for free and he can do anything he wants.   Focus group was created as testing crew for people who really care about the game (that's shown by financial support). Anders got concentrate and diverse sample of the community and used us to immediate feedback about his thoughts and plans. We have no participation on making any decisions and know about like 1% more information than You who aren't in this focus group.

Actually, no.  Certain topics were voted on.  There was never a vote for this topic, it was more of a discussion.  Anders is simply asking for opinions to determine what is in the best interest of the game long-term.  Nothing has been decided yet.  When information is available, Anders and the mods will notify everyone.

I have no stake in this whatsoever, just figured I'd share these facts to avoid the back and forth that has been happening.

    Here’s the latest update.
We’re now well under way of developing features that are being included in the big release this fall. After discussions with the focus group we have decided to extend the leagues to a total of 28 teams divided into two conferences. Playoff series will be played best of five games. We’re also adding a sixth league to each game world.

More about this and other features including a full release plan will be available very soon.

Thought I’d share a couple of lines on what we’re currently working on for the next release other than various bug fixes.

Our top priorities for the next release is to ensure that new users will get the grip of the game as fast as possible. Therefore we will reintroduce the guided steps on each page plus integrate the help files into the game in a better way. We will also extend and complete the content of the current help files.

Afterwards we will most likely look into adding support for PayPal, improving instant messaging, extend player training options and adding league awards. Please note that this is our current priority and may be changed over time.

And remember that we’re always considering your suggestions and feedback.

    Thanks!

Sorry for the lack of info lately. Time really flies. Here's the latest update on how everything is going with the upcoming release later this fall. More info regarding this release can also be found here: http://forums.gmgames.org/topic/4230-current-road-map/

We have bought a second web server that will run the database and the simulators for the upcoming release. I'm planning on re-opening the UAT on this server to test things out. But we're currently waiting on some missing parts that was not included from the supplier. I'm also doing quite many changes of the codebase at the moment. This includes a major upgrade of the database and a move of the simulators from .NET Framwork to dotnet core. This is to be able to run the simulators on a Linux environment. This part is now almost done. We have also started creating a new design of the game. I've received a first draft from the designer and it's looking real good. Really excited to implement a fresh look to the game. We're now putting together the first questions for the focus group. We're planning on creating a protected sub forum here in the forum. All members will receive an email with an invitation within a week or so. Sorry to have kept you waiting. Besides all of the above I've also created a bug fix patch that was just released (v1.3.4). This will hopefully take care of the most urgent bugs until the major release later this fall.

YES, we did it! I'm shocked we made it because all the odds were against us. Going into the last match we were tied in points but we're sitting in 10th due to point differential. We had to win and also have Lake St. Louis either lose or go into extra time. On top of that, I made a crazy big trade before the game leaving me with a new goalie. For whatever dumb reason I decided it would be a good idea to start the new guy. He got owned in the first period and after my veteran replaced him, after 9 shots against, it wasn't looking good. All other games against the Wild Wings resulted in losses for us this season, and by good margins - we were not favored to win at all....but in the end we score a season high 7 points to win...and Haradrim's TopCats got forced into OT. What a crazy end to the season. Now it's time to prepare for getting spanked in round 1 of the playoffs!

Back again with the new power rankings for Fishbowl season 12, on day 5.

I decided to change the formula slightly. Rather than only considering the best goalie, I've decided to weigh a teams best goalie at 0.75 and second best goalie at 0.25. Formula used for overall is:
    [(average offence) * 12 + (average defence) * 12 + (best goalie) *0.75 + (second best goalie) * 0.25]/25

    (1) I think it's still easy to trade with COM teams, but you gotta be willing to give up something of value to get exactly what you're looking for.  I don't think you can "stack" your team this way, but you can definitely improve an area of need if you have depth, and are willing to give up a few assets, elsewhere.

    (2) I love the improved trading logic because it prevents teams from "stacking up" without losing anything of value.

    (3) Does anyone else see yellow?  It's orange on my screen.
