    I completely agree on this.

However if these contract changes happen there need to be a few extra additions as well:

    - Increase cap space. Like you said if we want to make it more real, like NHL for example, the cap space needs a boost in every league. If the contract adjustments kick in then the current cap space is far too less. I'm not saying we would need to sign all the players because that would be the same problem, but if contracts are adjusted and you can only keep 7-8 players due to the cap space then all the building is for nothing.

    - AI improvements in player accepting contracts. Right now every player accepts his new contract. At least in GHL. It's too easy to sign a player, even when you're a top team or a bottom team in GHL.

Playoffs are here and contract extensions are happening again, so I'll keep at this.

Today in Biscuit GHL 9 players signed an extension - 7 of them took a pay cut.
A highlight from that bunch: 22yo, 96ovr d-man, on an already cheap contract, is fine with an extension that lowers his salary by ~16%. Why would a young superstar coming off a good season ever agree to something like that?

Nice topic, great idea Steve. You missed your shot at commenting games. Doc Emrick of GPHM :-)

I won that game, lots of hassle so it seems. Previous 2 games I lost when being the better team, happy my team stepped up again.

The more exciting part is Musketeers and Leopards being tied on points in SHL.... yet again near the end of the season.  Before this last round we had the same 4 teams to play as well.  For those who don't know our history 2 seasons ago we went up to SHL together tied on points and him winning the league by GD.... last season we tied again with Leopards getting home ice advantage for our playoff series by goal differential then winning the series.  I am looking to get ahead of him this season!

In the SHL, there is also some excitement brewing even though the top two teams were decided several games back.

But there is a real battle raging for the right to try and play up as the Bangers (94 pts, 5th), Musketeer (90), Leopards (90), and Eagles (87) all are trying to stay alive to play against the Dynasty Heroes and Mohawks in the 1st round of the SHL playoffs.

Key Matchup Tonight:  Dynasty Heroes at Leopards.  A potential first round matchup and the Leopards have taken 2 of 3 against the Heroes so far this season.

Updated the team roster below! I used the rule of thumb for those with ambiguous last names like Lang that I assumed they were of Asian descent if they were of American/Canadian nationality - which doesn't completely resolve the discrepancy but helps alleviate some of the more obvious problems. Also realized I somehow missed Bob Honda, who would undoubtedly be the most decorated player on this team as not only a six-time GHL champion but also leading the GHL in scoring in Season 8.

Some other observations when I took a deeper dive into the players' backgrounds:
There were 18 Americans and 12 Canadians out of all the players I found of Asian background (not all of them made the final roster since I only took the highest rated). 17 Chinese-Americans/Canadians which was by far the highest number, although again some surnames were difficult to assign to a single nationality Of these 17, there seemed to be a disproportionately high number from southern Cantonese-speaking parts of China with surnames such as Chan, Ly, Chow, etc.  6 Vietnamese-Americans/Canadians, which again was higher than I expected Only 7 total of Japanese or Korean descent, which was lower than I anticipated. Although this may be due to the ambiguity of some surnames, I was still surprised not to see many given their relative prevalence in real life Not a lot of common surnames - for example, it was surprising not to find a Li, Kim, or Chen to name just a few while we had much rarer surnames appear. However, I have seen more common surnames such as Xu and Zhang in other game worlds (UAT Mitts, Dangles) Also put together a quick mock lineup based on rating/handedness:

    Forwards
    Honda - Yao - S. Do
    Sin - Bui - Wan
    Pon - C. Do - Jung
    Ly - Yi - Chan
    Loy

    Defensemen
    Vu - Lao
    Chow - Osano
    Lang - Noda
    Noto

    Goalies
    Yu
    Chin
    Le

Not a typical-sounding lineup at all!

    Hi Peter,

There is a tutorial from rainsilent where he explains this perfectly:

For goalies it's how far a goalie is willing to go. I personally think this is a very useful skill and helps with your team spirit (winner instinct) a lot.

    Hi,

Not sure if this has been reported already but I didn't find anything about it.

Every season it's the same schedule. It would be realistic if this could be randomised every season.

    Thanks.

Don't think that I am saying that there shouldn't be a roster limit. When the suggestion first came up a long time ago I said somewhere in the ballpark of 40 is where I think we should be. Too low of a roster limit and proper team building becomes nearly impossible as does sustaining your team from efforts within. Too high a limit and it might as well not be there. With around 40 you can have 5 depth players give or take a few and 10-12 prospects with some extra room left over for multiplayer trades.

Edit: Also turning and burning picks means that someone somewhere is selling out their picks/prospects for a short term risk while the team benefiting is maintaining their position atop the league they are in with valuable future assets. So long as the team benefiting works the deals to maintain status que they aren't ever going to move and it will remain status quo. If you guys don't think human managers are that gullible look at the team that won the GHL in Biscuit the prior two seasons. They got human managers to give them way more value than the players they were trading away were worth and now that team is a gold mine of young players.

Just something that came to mind, the easiest way to probably resolve this would likely be a gradual decrease of current salary cap over a few seasons until it's at a "realistic" level in comparison to the current contracts (probably somewhere between 40-50 million). A gradual decrease would allow teams to make necessary moves and prepare in advance.
