In an underdeveloped category, Bowl Bound College Football has been the flagship game since created in 2005 and is still heavily used in online sim leagues.  Staying power and still a viable game a decade after release.

Chris reacted to palli in palli - what hockey sim?
As I wrote: A few years before I joined OOTP Developments to work on iOOTP I wrote my own baseball text-sim game. After I finished it, I (or better we, as I had help from a friend) realized, that we would never ever catch up to OOTP and nobody would care about another baseball sim game. So we decided to change direction and turn to hockey. We both had season tickets for our local DEL Team at that time and no actual hockey text-sim game existed. It was way beyond concept phase, most screens already were coded and even some AI was present (we used a lot of stuff from the baseball project). When I joined OOTP Developments last year, I had to drop out off the project but my friend continued to work on it. As far as I know (and based on the last screenshots I saw) he did a lot of work with graphics and gave the game a nice new look. Without knowing all details at the moment (way to much work with iOOTP in the last few month) I would say the game is maybe in Alpha status, so you can load up a game, navigate around most screens, most feature are available in a basic way and you can sim games. I know the Game Engine is a little rough around the edges as I wrote and never finished it and I'm pretty sure he did no work with it.

The problem with such a project is always the content, especially roster (and in hockey you have a lot more leagues then in baseball) and stuff like news/pbp texts. You need people with a passion who would love to contribute to such a project. Unfortunately you don't have a player database like the Lahman database for baseball.

    Hi everyone

I am currently looking for more people to try out the prototype of Game Plan Hockey Manager. http://www.gameplanhockey.com

The game is an online hockey manager game that "simulates" x times per day at specific times depending on the speed of the chosen game world. That means that you have plenty of time to make your tactical changes, sign players and so on before the next simulation.

Just enter your email address in the signup form and wait for an invite. It's free, and I will invite more users continuously.

More information about the game is available on the site, but I'm happy to answer any question or suggestion you might have here as well.

    Thanks!

October 1 game - Game Six
Phoenix 4 at Cincinnati 1 - Phoenix wins 4-2WP - A.J. Burnett, LP - Frederico Olsen, S - Rex BrothersGame MVP - SP A.J. Burnett, Phoenix, 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 4 KSeries MVP - CF Axel Darke, Phoenix, 9 of 24, 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 6 R, 9 RBI, 2 BBNotes: Phoenix SS Starlin Castro was having a great game--3 of 3 with a double--before he was injured in the sixth inning with a hand contusion and had to leave the game.He was the only Firebirds' batter to have more than one hit in the game....Series MVP Darke just missed a home run in the first inning, leaving him one RBI short of double digits in the series. He finished the game with his lowest output of the series: 1 for 3 with a run and a walk....Cyclones SS Troy Tulowitzki may have earned MVP honors had Cincinnati taken the series. He was the only player to have multiple hits with the Cyclones, going 2 for 4 in the game....Cincinnati had no RBI in the game. Their one run came as the result of a walk, single, passed ball, and then wild pitch....Cincinnati pitcher Olsen allowed four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings.... The Cyclones' loss denies them the chance to be the first team to win both the Diamond Trophy and the Tournament of Champions Bowl. The only other team that pulled off a similar accomplishment was the first season on the tournaments when the Charlotte Flyers improbably won both the Gamma League and Tournament of Champions Bowl.

Chris reacted to Clacquam in NHL versus AHL prime differences
I went to a half a dozen Lake Erie Monsters games and a few Ohio State games last year during the lockout, and saw some pretty damn good hockey on a different level to get my fix. I meant to bring up before what I felt are the biggest differences between the AHL and the NHL from what I have seen.

The two biggest are, by far:

Rebound control: goalies are from what I have seen big, quick, near nhl caliber but the biggest difference between the NHL and AHL is the use of the catching glove. An NHL goalie can control the tempo of the game, slow it down by forcing faceoffs, catching the puck to allow his team to get tired players off the ice, ect.. while this happens in the AHL it is no where near as common. Ahl goalies are competent and I saw some amazing saves but they did not seem able to control the tempo of the game.
Less crisp passing is the number two thing. The players can shoot amazingly well but the passing is horrible. Dump and chase and pushing the puck in along the boards seems to be the prevalent way to move the puck into the zone.

Speed is near the same, hard to tell a discernible difference, defense seems to be the same or close to it shooting is not bad. It really is the subtle things, passing and puck control that I noticed as being where the AHL is deficient.

Chris reacted to TB GM EHEC in EHEC - The best EHM Freeware Online League seeking GM's
EHEC is days away from its fifth season. We sim the NHL schedule in real-time, which provides an unparalleled realistic experience.  Our staff works extremely hard to keep up the standards that we set back in 2009. We have a fun and competitive environment for our all GMs, and our happy to help new members learn the game.

We have accounted for realignment this season, have up-to-date NHL/AHL affiliations, and have created the real-life draft class every off-season. We feature a detailed rulebook, financial system, and a General Manager Office where you can make changes to your team which are instantly in-putted into the game file using the GM Office software. Demote, recall, change positions, move staff, change training are just some of the features built into our GM Office software.

    Here are the available teams:

    COLORADO AVALANCHE

While in years past the Avs has been locked into a bottom feeder spot, they have taken steps in the right direction the last two seasons. Despite continuingly missing the post-season, they appear to be a piece or two away from getting into the playoffs. Perfect for a manager who wants to put his own stamp on a team, but not completely tear it down. Possesses their 2015 1st round draft pick.

Core players: Simeon Varlamov, Gabriel Landeskog, Drew Doughty and Matt Duchene

    NEW YORK ISLANDERS

Another team that has failed to make the post-season the last few years, NYI has never really had a long-time GM Unfortunately; it shows when looking at their roster. This team is for a GM who wants a challenge, and is looking to build a contender through the draft. Possesses their 2015 1st round draft pick.

Core players: David Krejci, Ryan Murray, Christopher Gibson, and Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson

    OTTAWA SENATORS

The last Sens GM made some major moves which put Ottawa in a position to contend this season. They have all the core pieces to be a playoff team, except a goalie. A GM looking to instantly contend after making a few minor moves would be perfect for this team. Possesses their 2015 1st round draft pick and one additional 1st round draft pick.

Core players: Jason Spezza, Brian Lee, David Backes, and Mika Zibanejad

    WASHINGTON CAPITALS

The Caps have made the post-season in all four years of EHEC. However, they have struggled to find post-season success against the bigger power house teams. The Capitals could go either way, add a few pieces and make a Cup run or tear it down and rebuild within. They have many valuable assess, any GM would be lucky to take over a perennial contender like the Capitals. Possesses their 2015 1st round draft pick.
Core players: Pavel Datsyuk, Morgan Rielly, Zach Parisé and Andrei Markov

    WINNIPEG JETS

Another team who has contended before, the Jets had a finals berth just two seasons ago. However, they failed to take advantage and did not perform well last season. They are a cap team, and will need a GM who can navigate their tricky financial status while still enabling them to contend. One of the top teams in EHEC, their core is young and elite. Possesses their 2015 1st round draft pick.
Core players: Jonathan Huberdeau, Alex Pietrangelo, Sean Couturier, and Logan Couture.

    2012 Eastern Conference Finals: #1 Philadelphia v #2 Detroit
    Matchup Preview:
    Season Series: PHI 3 – DET 1
    PG: Griffin Harrington (17.6 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 7.8 apg, 1.7 spg) v Kurtis Scholl (27.2 ppg, 3.2, 7.6 apg, 1.0 spg)
During the regular season, Kurtis Scholl wasn’t even close to contesting Harrington for a top spot on the list of the best PG’s in the league. But with Harrington’s decline through the first two rounds, and Scholl’s stepping up to take Detroit games over, this series will be a hot matchup between the two.
    Winner: Draw
    SG: Rowan Evans (18.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.8 spg) v Tadeusz Sbroczynksi (11.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 6.9 apg, .6 spg)
Rowan Evans has been surprising everyone with his consistently impressive play during the postseason so far, while Sbroczynksi hasn’t had a particularly praise-worthy month since the playoffs started. At 37, its reasonable to expect his play to start falling off, but we’ll have to keep in mind his experience in the matchup against Evans. Look for big numbers from Evans due to sub-par defense, and a decrease in steal numbers.
    Winner: PHI
    SF: Tengiz Tsulukidze (10.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.8 apg, 0.8 spg, 2.5 bpg) v Billy Wallace (15.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.4 apg, .7 spg, 1.2 bpg)
Zulu will be happy to face off against someone who approaches his size after having to deal with someone much smaller and quicker. He’s going to eat Billy up. Wallace isn’t a bad player, but Zulu is going to be hungry and there is little that he can do against someone as strong as Tengiz is.
    Winner: PHI
    PF: Oliver Dobbins (16.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.5 bpg) v Nate Moore (19.7 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.7 spg, 2.8 bpg)
This is one of the most anticipated matchups of the series. It probably isn’t going to be that close, and it probably isn’t going to go our way, however. Moore is probably one of the top 3 PF’s in the game, and he plays like it. His efficiency isn’t spectacular, with a .500 FG% through the postseason, but he has an 80% stopping percentage on drives, and forces 2.4 TO’s per game. He is one of the League’s true two way players .
    Winner: DET
    C: Naim Baykurt (21.0 ppg, 8.6 prg, 1.5 apg, .7 spg, 1.6 bpg) v Reggie McAfee (14 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2apg, 3 bpg)
McAfee has to show that he is truly healthy after missing most of the first and all of the second round of the playoff’s due to a broken finger. When healthy, he anchors the best frontcourt in the league, and will look to show it. Meanwhile Baykurt is riding peak form and will be looking to show dominance against a player just trying to get back into the swing of things.
    Winner: Draw
Bench: Jody Jones, Natan Nagid, Delvin Mouring v Raymond Elloie, Ronell Wise, Donald Fox
Elloie is edging ever closer to the end of his career, but is still so good that when either McAfee or Moore step off for a spell, the Gears want for nothing. However, the rest of their bench isn’t so reliable. On Philly’s side. Nagid showed that he was back and ready to go after his late-season injury. He wasn’t particularly efficient, but could still showed he could do his thing.
    Winner: Draw
    Prediction: Toss-up in 7
I really can’t tell which of us will take this series in the end. If any of our players go off, the series is ours, possibly in less than 7 games, but I could also see Detroit slowing things down so much that we can’t beat them.

Game 1: PHI v DET (Series tied 0-0):
You’d think that at home, with four players scoring 20 points apiece, we would be pretty safe about taking a win in this game, right? Nope. In fact, it wasn’t particularly close. That all came down to rebounds. Remember me saying the Gears had the best front court in the league? Well they used that size to outrebound ups by a margin of 15!  Meanwhile, Griff Harrington had 9 rebounds, a team high. Also, apparently my coach likes Jones more than Evans, because he started tonight. Both did very well, but Evans’ performance definitely made me a believer of him over Jones. He went 8 for 11 (getting 22 points), had 3 rebounds (2 more than Jones), 4 assists (3 more than Jones), and a steal (1 more than Jones). But Ah well. Back to the drawing board for game 2 as we go down 121-136.
Game 2: PHI v DET (DET leads 1-0):
A 10 point loss puts us on the road and down 2-0. Evans started, and while he gave a subpar performance, so did almost everyone else. Zulu had 15 points, and 12 rebounds, but did little else, Dobbins had 19 and 5 steals, but turned the ball over 5 times, Baykurt managed 28 points, but missed 8 free throws. As a team, we shoot a terrible 36% and go 1 for nine from behind the arc (Evans made our only 3). Detroit takes us down 118-108.
The Rangers lead against the Spartans 2-0, going to Golden State for the next two.
Game 3: PHI @ DET (DET leads 2-0):
This game is must win for us, as I cannot recall any team winning four in a row after going down 3-0. And we cannot pull it off. Scholl schorches Harrington for 29 points, and the best we can offer back is 20 from Baykurt and 19 from Evans. Their efforts were negated by 22 from Moore and a 11 rebound margin for the Gears as they trounce us by 13, 126-113.
Game 4: PHI @ DET (DET leads 3-0):
By this point in the series, I’ve essentially given up any hope of moving on, yet the team wasn’t content to just roll over and let them win. Bykurt went for 29 points, while Griff Harrington was the story of the match, going 10 for 17, making 6 of 7 free throws, scoring 27, and piling on 10 dimes. He finally looked like his regular season self, and we only let the Gears lead by a single point 3 times over the course of the game where we led by as much as 23. Final result: 123-104!
Game 5: PHI v DET (DET leads 3-1):
3 more wins left to take the series. I know that I’m kidding myself if I believe we can do it, but I can’t make myself let go of that hope. Baykurt scored 39 and managed to keep my hopes alive! The crowd came to the game a little dreary. They knew that the Gears were, in all likelihood, going to take this game, and they were dreading having them celebrate on our home floor. But at the end of the first half, up by 14, the crowd realized that it wasn’t yet our time to die, and once we took back the floor, they seemed to get louder with every possession, trying to will us back into the series. Harrington was having so much fun that he forgot to score the ball. He miss all four shots he took, and promptly gave up and started passing instead. He managed to acquire 13 shiny new dimes for his collection. Evans scored 23, showing off his ungodly efficiency, and the whole team was laughing like maniacs as we took home our second win of the series, 132-105!
Game 6: PHI @ DET (DET leads 3-2):
Everybody and their grandmother knew that the Palace of the Auburn Hills was going to be a terrifying place for this game six. Motor City looked at us and believed that if we were able to take game six, and go back home for game 7, they would be toast. We would have too much momentum and to excited a crowd to lose. So they made it their business to win this game at all costs. But Rowan Evans told the world—and did it twice—that we weren’t afraid of them, that under no circumstances would we back down, and that this game was ours. And it was, even before it started. Yes it looked close through the first half, with Detroit even getting a 9 point lead for a while and going into the 3rd with a nickel for a lead. But that magical 3rd quarter came along and I couldn’t leave my seat to get a drink of water if I was dying of thirst. Evans finished the game with 43 points on 16 of 24 shooting, going 7 for 8 from deep, and gathering 8 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Harrington was back on point, scoring 21, dishing 17 dimes (mostly to Evans) and pilfering his way to four steals. We take our third win in a row to even the series and go Home for game 7, 123-104!
Game 7: PHI v DET (Series tied 3-3):
I almost couldn’t bring myself to attend the game. I didn’t want to see the magic of the last 6 days die. If we lost, I wasn’t sure how I’d react. Eventually, thinking of all the players I would let down if I didn’t show, I forced myself into the car, and drove to the stadium, arriving only an hour early. And I regretted it almost immediately. Detroit made a huge push that silenced the crowd. When the half-time buzzer sounded, we were only a few points in the hole, after giving up an 11-0 run and pushing back, but the court was so quiet that people in the nosebleeds heard it when the PA announcer sneezed into his sleeve (and away from his mike). While the crowd was busy being depressed, the locker was filled with thunder, fire, and brimstone. Coach Jones made it absolutely clear that this wasn’t a game that we were allowed to lose. That even if we suffered 11 injuries, that one last person was going to win us this game. The third quarter wasn’t the magical thing of the last game, but a tiresome, grinding battle to even the score. But even it we did. That gave us the momentum to push through the 4th and take a 13 point lead to win the game and advance to the NBA finals, 116-103.

The Rangers-Spartans series went the distance as well, but Dallas righted their ship and advanced to the finals, with 3 players pushing 30 points, 139-112.

On August 30th, 2006, Shawn Howard was hired to be the new General Manager of the Anaheim Ducks. This came to much scrutiny as many believed it was uncalled for as GM Bob Murray was building a great team. The owners just felt it was time to move on and go in a different direction.

Shawn Howard received an email from the owner saying welcome to the Anaheim Ducks. Founded in 1993, we play our home games in the 17,174 capacity arena in the Honda Center which is located in Anaheim, California. The Ducks play in the Pacific Division of the National Hockey League. The rivalry with the Los Angeles Kings is intense and the fans are passionate about it and will expect top performances.

Our Finals appearance in 2003 is currently the only one to date and it wasnt victorious.

The current head coach is Randy Carlyle. Assistant David McNab is here to assist you in daily tasks. Ryan Getzlaf, Scott Niedermayer and Saku Koivu are amongst the best players on the team. Luca Sbisa, Peter Holland and Logan MacMillan are amongst our highly rated prospects. They should form a core for years to come.

We have farm affiliations with Bakersfield Condors and San Antonio Rampage, where players may be assigned from your roster.

The Anaheim Ducks directors expect the team to reach the playoffs this season.

Ducks will open with games against the Kings (home), Coyotes (away), and Blues (home) on Friday October 6th, 2006, Saturday October 7th, 2006 and October 9th, 2006 respectively.

Africa, the birthplace of human life,  a land of majestic animals, and filled to the brim with sights of beautiful landscapes, what else could it need? A baseball league. This is where I come in. I, Edmund Stillwater, a 60 year-old English industrialist who just happens to have a strong passion for baseball.  I have recently been informed of a potential chance to open a baseball league in Africa. Of course, I immediately jumped at this opportunity and began searching for the cities to be the founding cities of the league. After about a year-and-a-half of planning, the United Federation of African Baseball (or UFAB, for short) was founded. League offices are located in South Africa, a former British settlement and relatively stable country.  Starting out, there are 2 sub leagues, the Northern Federation (NF) and the Southern Federation (SF).  Each league has 1 division with 3 teams in it. In the North, there are the Casablanca Generals, the Nairobi Storm, and the Kampala Naturalists. In the South, there are the Doha Savages, the Bloemfontein Brawlers, and the Dar es Salaam Safari Men. The division in the North is the Coastal Division and the South has the Continental Division. The league's inaugural draft will be held on January 1, 2014. I will not be controlling any teams, as I will be the first ever, Commissioner of African Baseball Operations (or CABO for short).

Last year at this time, we launched MyFootballNow, an online professional football simulation game where you take control of and manage a pro football team.  Over the past year we've had lots of players and tons of valuable feedback, and have been working tirelessly to bring your great ideas to life.  We've released several updates, launched new features, and improved the game play experience significantly.  Thank you for participating in the game, and thank you especially for the feedback you have provided. We wouldn't be where we are if it weren't for you!

Now, one year later, we are excited to make another exciting announcement.  You may now participate in as many leagues as you would like, for FREE!  Once each day, your credit balance will be replenished to allow you to maintain a balance of 5 credits, meaning each day you'll be able to join another team in another league.  Credits are still available for purchase if you want to remove the ads or can't wait for another day to sign up for more teams, but now you don't have to purchase credits to play in multiple leagues.

We hope this new plan improves your enjoyment of MyFootballNow!

    Hey all,

Just wanted to jump in here real quick and give Eric some support.

I first learned of DF via an interview he did on Operation Sports, after reading that a few times, all the while telling myself "he's really making this game?...no dude really, he is?.  SWEET!" and well, sort of being my odd freaky self. :-)  I headed over to his website, joined up, annoyed him here and there and choose to back the kickstarter, as I believe DF will be an outstanding, open, customizable and truly high quality fun and enjoyable game.

i don't want to come off as a fan boy, so I'll just leave it at that.  Check it out though, read the interviews, Q&As and Eric's write ups, he has a boat load of ideas and is implementing all of them as quickly as he can.

Here's the Community Q&A url at Operation Sports...he's neef btw.

A trillion games like this?  There really isn't that many American Football management (non browser based) games that I am aware of...maybe just a few.....Football Mogul, Front Office Football, and Professional Football Simulator, with the future football game from OOTP coming out in the next year or so.  Front Office Football is likely the main game competition, the other two really don't measure up as well yet and don't appear to have a large following.  It also seems like none of them receive regular developer support anymore and each has room for improvement in my opinion.  Who knows what OOTP will do with it, I am sure it will follow somewhat in the footsteps of their other games.

Regardless, it is nice to see an indie developer trying to introduce something new, which actually plays like the good old days when we had Front Page Sports Football.  I have also backed the game since it is not often we see games like this so I want to try and help it have a good chance in succeeding since it is always nice to have alternatives.  I also agree that eventually having a demo version of the game will help draw in people that are on the fence about it and all the competition has a demo version available so good to be on par with them.

Time will tell how things turn out, but I do wish the developer good luck in bringing his vision of football management sim to market....

Note: For this story I used the an old TBLv1.4 or 5 can’t remember, I quick simmed through the 2006-2007 season and then rook over my favorite WHL team after the last day of the season which is March 18th 2007. That favorite WHL team of my is the Chilliwack Bruins.

Using the EHM 07 Realism Patch

Our development club is the Westside Warriors of the BCHL league. Just a bit of history this past season, Chilliwack Bruins finished last in their division with 68 points 6 pts out of a playoff spot behind Kelowna who finished with 74 points. Saskatoon who finished with 66 pts and Seattle who finished with 58 pts both made the playoffs as Portland with 57, Swift Current with 58; Regina with 62, Chilliwack with 68 and Calgary with 69 are the 5 teams who missed the playoffs.

Our Rivals are Vancouver Giants and Kelowna Rockets

    WHL Playoffs, Conference Quarter Finals

    March 18th

After a disappointing season that saw us miss the playoffs, the team decided to fire the GM and have decided to name Rick Stevens as the new GM. I have yet to decide on what I want to do this upcoming season as we maybe ready to make the playoffs but I don’t think we are ready to make a memorial cup run so we might be in a bit of a mix of playoffs/rebuild until our group is ready to make the playoffs as we are in a very competitive BC Division.

My first job as GM was to fire Jim Hiller, assistant coach Peter Hay, Dan Price as we have decided to keep goalie coach Brady Robinson and defense coach Brad Werenka.

As far as scouts we decided to let go of Lorne Sanders, Murray Porter, Dan Noble, Rob Morphy, Ray Ference, Dave Smith. We have decided to keep scout Pat Corrado so we have someone to scout the upcoming draft.Dave Smith and Rob Morphy. Smith will head out to scout the WHL Bantam draft and Morphy will begin to head to Europe to scout for the CHL Import draft.

We begin our search to replace the fired staff and improve our staff. We also looked through our reserve list as we have 43 of a possible 50 players as we plan on making room for our upcoming draft class.

Before I move on I thought I would mention that the previous gm made two trades this past season sending our 10th pick to Red Deer for Devon Leblanc and our 15th pick to Everett for Brennan Sonne.

Our club finished with a record of:

    72gp 30-34-4-4 .472 179 GF 199 GA 10.5 PP % (20th) 88.4 PK % (5th) 68 pts

Our Bruins organization has decided to release defenseman Stephane Lenoski has decided to join Vancouver in July 5th, Chad Scharff who was a overage this season and will be a UFA; goalie Derek Swan who is a overage next season who did not fit into our team plans. Forwards Trevor Greco, Levi Brotnov, Josh Aspenlind (overage this season), defenseman Evan Oberg, defenseman Ryan Smith, forward Jadon Potter

Right now we have 7 overagers next season Myles Stoesz, Ken Petkau, Nick Holden, Brennan Sonne, Alex Archibald, Dylan Chapman, Joey Martini. We have yet to decide which 3 we will keep for next season.

Right now that leaves us with 35 players on our reserve list which we will be down to move once we decide who that other overage player is.
