In Topic: White Sox / Blue Jays Trade

The Blue Jays attempts to trade every single member of their WDL contingent is almost complete.

We have decent catching depth, and were looking to add quality hitting prospects like White to our system. Baker and Mercado are both solid prospects, we just view White as just a bit better, so we decided to pull the trigger.

Thanks for the quick talks Chicago

This one came together wicked fast.

For us, the deal was get Velette (or another top arm) at any price...

That price ended up being really high.

Liriano is a 4-5 WAR player, who could be the best hitter on lots of teams, and he will either re-sign or net the Nationals a compensatory 1st round pick. Swanson is a great innings eater who can be in the upper-middle of a competitive rotation, and has the same control years as Velette. Hernandez was asked for by a few teams, but with 2 young 1B we were willing to part.

However, Velette (assuming no regression or setbacks) is an Ace. Pineda/Velette/Verlander is an ELITE top 3, and paired with out lineup we think it is hard to compete with in the AL, let alone the AL East. Rodgers will platoon in LF with Hampton and hopefully be decent v LHP.

Thanks again to the Nationals for a solid negotiation

We have an extremely full bullpen, and were interested in seeing perhaps what Brothers could do as a first man up, but With Farrell succeeding briefly as a RP last year, and still looking for some SP depth, we were willing to move him for a #4/5 starter in Swain.

The 2018 Jays were marred by some of the worst offensive catching in the history of MLBPro. With Yady Molina still one of the best leaders in the league, and able to hold his own versus left handed pitching, management sought out a very good defensive piece who could simply hit RHP. We feel Rob Brantly fits this mold perfectly. Brantly owns a career 114 OPS+ v RHP and is a + defensive catcher.

With Norberto and Jansen signing on, and still in search for 1 final pen piece, Dominick was expendable with no minor league options. Mitch Carter, although a waiver grab from the Orioles earlier this offseason, was a coveted piece who could be a great AAA ace and emergency starter, but with Nicholas, Pickett, McCutc all fighting for 1/2 MLB jobs, our SP depth was suitable.

David Dillon was certainly the best 'asset' involved in this train, but after some scouting hits report by the Jays scouts on New Years Day, management softened their position on him, willing to move him for what we see as a better hitter in Wheeloc, without his speed or defence.

The Blue Jays management will have to take SEVERAL weeks off after these laborious and stressful talks with the Mariner contingency.

Sulbaran can maybe be a loogy, Ramos doesn't have a whole lot of potential but Sam was looking to clear 40 man spots and we have more than enough open!

Thanks as well
