White Sox / Mariners Trade

Recommended Posts

Chicago White Sox Trade:

AAA RP Evan Rutckyl

AA OF Dustin O'Neal

A (Kan) 3B Hiroshi Nakamura

Seattle Mariners Trade:

ML C Brian McCann

The Chicago White Sox approve this deal.  We traded Castro (to Seattle, btw) because we felt comfortable going forward with Pinto as our starting catcher platooned with Christian Betancourt deep in our lineup, but when we learned Brian McCann was available and looked at his affordable contract and consistent record, he was a clear upgrade.  We like Dustin O'Neal, and Nakamura's power potential, and we acquired Rutckyl in last year's Weaver trade thinking he would be a major league left-handed specialist, but Brian McCann was too great an addition to our lineup to pass up.

Thanks to Kaiser for the deal and his patience as we worked on the details over a few days.

Mariners confirm. We added McCann last year as a free agent, and had planned to use him at starting catcher until Castro became available a few weeks ago. Ironic that we now ship McCann to Castro's old home on Chicago's south side. In exchange, we obtain 3 fringy prospects with Dustin O'Neal having the biggest upside. Fingers crossed the other two guys work out as well.

Thanks for Jonathan for the easy-going and patient talks... good luck with McCann!
