1921 Hall of Fame Results
With no clear cut favorite on the 1921 ballot voters still found a way to elect a pair of players to the Hall of Fame this year.
John McGraw's name appeared on 78.9% of the ballots to lead all players. McGraw's percentage was the lowest percentage for the leading vote getter who was elected to the Hall of Fame in history, and only seven players were elected to the Hall of Fame with a lower percentage, one of whom was elected this year.
McGraw hit .301 during his career with 3517 career hits, 1361 RBI, and 1934 runs scored with 666 stolen bases. McGraw compiled 77.2 WAR during his career, and beat the average Hall of Fame metric in two of five categories. McGraw won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1891 when he hit .310 with 80 RBI as an 18 year old, and won six Gold Gloves and eight Silver Slugger Awards during his career, while going to 10 All-Star games.
McGraw won two World Series with the Boston Beaneaters, where he played his entire career.
Brownie Foreman had his voting totals increase from 65.6% last year to 76.5% this year to become the second player elected to the Hall of Fame this year. Foreman went 319-287 during his 18 year career with the Cardinals with a 2.97 ERA. While Foreman was below average on all five Hall of Fame metrics he was close to average on four of the five.
Foreman won a Matt Kilroy Award in 1905 when he went 30-8 with a 1.61 ERA, and also a MVP Award the same year. Kilroy added a Gold Glove Award and went to two All-Star Games during his career.
