The Chicago White Sox trade:

SS Liam Ballard (AA)

The Los Angeles Dodgers trade:

SP Jake Wilson (currently DFA'ed)

The White Sox continue to look for depth for our Major League club as we push our chips all-in for 2019.  We put in a waiver claim for Jake Wilson, largely due to his MiLC and left-handed delivery, but another team had a higher waiver priority, so we decided to go get him to help our cause.  He'll serve as depth for our rotation in case of injury while also doubling as a potential left-handed reliever for our big league club, while being an easy stash at AAA until he's needed.

We have some decent MI depth in our minors at the moment, so Ballard seemed a worthwhile player to move for this purpose.

Thanks, Sam, for the quick & easy deal.

Dodgers confirm.

Wilson was initially put on the 40 man roster to be protected from the Rule 5 draft, but since then we have realized that he is fairly far down on the depth chart and thus is not likely to see much of any big league time in 2019. Keeping that in mind, with a desire to open up some space on the 40 man, a decision was made to waive him. We were prepared to let him go for free obviously, but am glad we could salvage something for him with this deal. We like the return too.

Pleasure doing business with you, Jonathan!
